kheny12: The most wicked, confused and nonsense administration in the history of the country. Up till now, they are still borrowing money and poor citizens are paying for it. How can you relate this to the topic. Go and study this: what is debt servicing. The debts that are serviced when were they contracted? If a country has the capacity to service her debts regularly, what is the implication in dealing with other nations? Ability to service debts regularly, what does it portray the managers of the economy as? |

These are strategies of a failure... Tinubu will soon learn the hard way... I expect NLC to declare strike action midnight and by tomorrow, a loud protest follows to unsit Tinubu.
We must act fast and now... Military guys are ready to take over. You can't even ask for the reason for the arrest. Anybody that is arrested then the rest of us should go on strike? |

He further insinuated that what is playing out is an attempt to increase pump price without complaints from the public.
He wrote on social media:
https://x.com/fisayosoyombo/status/1833041546926493787 So why can't we all allow this subsidy of a thing to stop and we face reality? We should rather all fight for good governance and accountability at all levels of government irrespective of party. |

Lookmun: And what are the factors that have led to low production? You mean people do importation business because they want to intentionally sabotage economic development? No. The conditions for production are not favorable. Infrastructure, power supply, cost of doing business, credit and so many other factors make it unprofitable to produce. Even big multinationals are closing their plants. What flourished importation at the expense of production are poor power, overvalued currency, high taste for imported goods, rush for quick wealth etc. |

lexy2014: which reforms are you talking about? pls shed some light Anyone that understands Nigerian economics knows that the twin rope that had tied Nigerian neck have been overvalued currency and highly subsidized petroleum products consumption. The above were fueled by petrodollar. The effects of high level corruption was not seen by many. Poor governance at all levels was not so much felt. Importing goods and sell was easy route to wealth. It paid business people to import and sell than to produce. Import substitution policy was abandoned. Nigerians generally both leaders and the led lived false life. Petrodollar has gone and our leaders resorted to borrowing. States were owing salaries for years not even months. Every leader was afraid to crack the twin problem because of the certain citizens backlash. But we have reached the dead end. Any further postponement of the evils day will be catastrophic. The present leader braved it. The informed are aware that what is happening now will happen because of his decision. That's not to say that there were no mistakes. For example the twin heads should not have been cracked at once or at the same rate. |

This is the issue that I have with Nigerians. Our fight should ideally start from LGs to states then Fg. But this is not the case. All attention are focused on the federal. If the sub-nationals are doing enough there will be so much improvement.
The reforms have freed up so much resources to the states that's why you don't hear of so many months salaries being owed. Are the governors using them judiciously? |
Politics › Re: Fuel Hike, Scarcity Created By Years Of Bad Governance Not Minister's Fault by Vision101(m): 11:46pm On Sep 07, 2024 |
Olaide1295: This is correct. The foundation of the fuel problem of today was laid by President Yar'adua when he reversed the sale of the refineries in 2007. If private investors had been allowed to run those refineries, they'd be working now. It's a problem of many years, not just this government. However, this suffering must not go to waste. People must see more judicious use of govt. money else, another protest will surface.
SOCIALISM IS NIGERIA'S PROBLEM!!. Petrol is subsidized, Education is subsidized Rail transportation is subsidized, Healthcare is subsidized Importation has been subsidized by cheap dollars for many years until recently. Even our economy is subsidized by Oil.
Subsidy distorts markets, thats why subsidized sectors won't function properly. Very correct 💯. We have been living subsidized life all these years. The tap has ran dry. We have to painfully pay for our past subsidized years. |

Crimecity: So in essence, Dangote and FG are the winners. Citizens have nothing there to gain or celebrate.
One would have thought that those saves from TFare and landing costs + import duties will reduce the cost of PMS at least.
Sighs Don't mind this analyst. Let's leave out the crude part and deal with PMS. 1 let's assume that the cost of refining is the same whether by dangote or abroad. 2 The PMS will be shipped to Nigeria = shipping cost. 3 There will be insurance costs associated with the pms. 4 There will be port charges 5 There will be storage costs because the pms will be kept in depot and gradually being sold. The imported PMS will bear costs 1 to 5 before margin. The dangote PMS will bear only cost 1 before margin. Therefore cost savings will be costs 2 to 5. |

If he was truly determined to work against him, he would have achieved it by just replacing INEC chairman with someone loyal to only him.
Buhari just tried to make the peoples vote count but APC governors fought and worked against it Buhari is very naive when it comes to politics. Excepting God, Tinubu made him president. He would never had become president. As daring as obasanjo was as president he resisted him. I'm not an APC member but the truth is that Tinubu is a political enigma. His opponents are aware. Obi had the performance he had because he underrated him and focused all his attention on atiku. He will not give him the chance again. |

LadyExcellency: This is called the free market. Is it not what Tinubu's government wanted? You floated the Naira and removed the subsidy and still want to control the cost of goods. This is a policy somersault. There is a measure of subsidy in place. Government is aware that Nigerians cannot pay the landing cost plus margin of every litre of pms. Therefore government had to absorb some cost. The difference is that in the past individuals were allowed to bring in the product and file claim for subsidy. Most times the quantity declared as having been brought in were fake. Paper quantities were used to claim subsidy from government. The present arrangement is that nnpc is the sole importer. They present their cost plus margin to government and the government asks them to sell below cost. This reduces their annual profit and by extension the dividends paid to government. The payment of cash as subsidy for products that were not brought in is eliminated. The nnpc therefore sells products to marketers at a price that will allow them add a fixed margin and sell to the public at predetermined price. The marketers are flouting that price because of scarcity. |

Pacesetter123: This type of talk is what is still keeping Nigeria where it is today. And it is always very annoying to hear. Do you think if Ramaphosa was to have this type of mindset that he would have achieved this feat? A mindset of always blaming the failure of the present leadership on the failure of the past leadership. Goodluck blamed Obasanjo,Buhari blamed Goodluck while Tinubu blames Buhari. Where does that take us to?
You think the current S/A president didn't meet corruption and decayed infrastructure in the power sector when he took over? Why didn't he continue in the level he met it and while blaming his predecessors for poor power output?
So if OBJ's regime squandered 16 billion US dollars that was meant for power infrastructure as was reported, does it mean the successive administrations should not invest in the power sector and make it work again?Must they keep on blaming their failures in the power sector on that till eternity? Why is Cyril Ramaphosa not dwelling on such a ugly past in that sector?
Look at the huge amount he gulps out to invest in the power sector.......now see the result!
Leaders with a humane heart with a strong political will is what we have been lacking and still lacking till now. Did the South African leader achieve this turn around in his first one year in office? Be fair in criticism. |
