Ah! University education is for matured minds. It's not all about passing exams and making good grades. Can they apply it? We have problems in the unis because kids are allowed to take adult decisions. The UK education is world class because "A" levels is a requirement for admission to undergrad program. Very few get their "A" levels at 16. |

Business › Re: Nigeria’s Economy Can Be Turned Around In Months — Dangote by Vision101(m): 7:50pm On Jul 05, 2024 |
Baxilexi: I celebrate the feats you’ve achieved in your career. My submission still stands that everything has been subjected to political fervor and not nation building. I’ll share two personal experiences of why exporters and foreign investors struggle.
Exporters: 2016, I had a gig to make delivery of grains to a foreign merchant. I went from Abuja to Bida in Niger state by road, crazy experience (folks up there pray on the roads impeding traffic flow). Got to the grains market there bought samples, made quotes finalized plans. I asked, what would it cost to transport these goods to Lagos, the seller said, (and here’s the government impact)… there is a shorter route between Niger state and Lagos but there are robbers on that route and we don’t use it anymore, the other route, the roads are bad but safer. So the price ended up being at about 200-250k per cargo. My questions - how would governors, who have a constitutional/social contract and duty to protect lives and properties seat, take salaries and watch these things destroyed? Are you aware of how much goods that have been lost to theft and bad roads hence discouraging investment into exports? Have you seen an industrialized country where railway isn’t a priority? Linking ports and regions?
Second story - investors 2018, I accompanied someone to a customs yard in ikorodu. This was touted to be the graveyard of peoples investments and dreams. I had to see it myself. Containers upon containers all considered forfeited due to exorbitant demurrage charges. Now here’s the problem, they take out what they like (the good stuff), and auction the rest at ridiculous prices to anyone. I visited a guy, a returning customer as well, he has a spot a short distance from the yard. I saw expensive manufacturing equipment, pumps, radiators, electronics, generators etc. all being sold as expensive scrap. My questions, taking a high handed stance to the detriment of the company, job security at the company and economic collapse or being flexible with custom duties which would be better? Is the government not aware of this racket? Which policies show genuine support for manufacturers? Is it the exorbitant or illegal export duty charges that have been reported severally in the dailys perpetuated by custom officials.
In other climes it is possible to clear goods without completion of the whole custom fee, you’re given a ticket (bill) and timeframe to pay up, they are aware of the importance of the equipment to your business and they hope and wish you well.
There’s so much more to tell but what I do know is the politicians are implicit/complicit and complacent in all of this. They only care about their pockets. The irony of this is they need a thriving economy to steal, but we have the unlucky combination of unintelligent, greedy and corrupt politicians. Good stories and very reflective of our system. The truth is that we and our leaders(civilian and military, past and present) have been spoilt by availability of petrodollar(easy money). Our leaders don't think of how to generate money but how to spend money. That's why everyone is rushing to be one. God will deliver us. |
Business › Re: Nigeria’s Economy Can Be Turned Around In Months — Dangote by Vision101(m): 10:40pm On Jul 04, 2024 |
Baxilexi: Dangote should respectfully withdraw himself from the political theatre of folly.
Bismarck Rewane: seasoned economist but a Shylock, merchant of Venice. He played this same role in the previous administration and has been invited for a remake like the aso-wood actor that he is.
Elumelu: one for the lackey… corny and shrewd. As stated by Otedola. His ambition knows no bounds.
Mr Wale Edun: do the honorable thing and resign your position if the politicians wouldn’t heed to your advice. The rejig we need isn’t alien to us, it a lack of willingness on the part of the politicians and you know this. Why soil your name?
How about solving the logistics debacle by having railway across the region for cargo? Freight by road is very expensive and unsafe. Also, invest in electricity and railway for transit and see Nigeria come alive. For security, get surveillance drones to watch hot areas, get perimeter radars all over the north, middle belt and SW. Nigeria is too small for the level of mysticism we allude to these bandits.
Slash state funds and divert it into renewable energy. Solar farms up north, dams in the middle belt, windmills and geothermal in the south.
It can be a PPP so the govt doesn’t shoulder the cost alone. Very sweet and easy to advise on social media. Try and be on the saddle and you will know that it's a different story. You see eey... When I was external auditor anytime I examine company records I used to write stincker as audit query. I will assume the highest stand and condemn accountants that don't keep to them. When I became company accountant my opinion changed. I then realized that there are so many extraneous factors that work against keeping of high standards. A man who is truly qualified to advise is he who has the knowledge of theory and has equally been on the saddle. Most homes look so easy and beautiful from outside but inside them there are many contentions. |

The cbn is in a fix. To bring the rate of inflation and interest rate down simultaneously is no beans. If you lower the interest rate you end up releasing so much cash and inflation will go up.
One of the drivers of high exchange rate is excess liquidity. Therefore moderation in rate management is the key. There are so many macroeconomic and microeconomic dislocations in our system. Is not as simple as arithmetic. |

fxexperts: And you really believe there is evidence right, my friend you will be shocked when the detail of this case is made public. the truth is those guys at the EFCC and all are extremely dull people, brainless lots, so why has they not found him guilty then if there is evidence. Rather they detained him and are blackmailing Binance to release details of all Nigerian transaction. more than detaining and suspect of a crime committed by his parents and then blackmail the parents to release evidence of their crime to you so you can use it to prosecute them. IS that not dumb to you. if you still doubt want i wrote up there then look at the case of Nnamdi Kanu, tell why they have not sentenced him all this years. so if Binance doesn't release the transaction to them they are going to keep that guy in prison forever, i guess. One day another country will just wake up one day and detain your president when he travels to their country for a crime committed by a Nigerian there. then i will see how you lots will cry foul.
