Pls explain. Thanks
If you do not have a visa, the enrollment is $250 (stated in the email) since other documentation is sent that is needed for the interview.

She had the $7k cash, bank statement which she showed to them with a balance of N1.5MM. They replied that hospital cost is inexess of $20,000 so all the fund is not sufficient. She had not paid for the hospital yet. She told them the hospital just gave only appointment but bill was communicated on phone as $5k.
You did not have "burden of proof". There is a lot of risk if you don't have the documentation necessary at the POE. A telephone conversation and email may not provide proof. The VO may or may not want to let you in, this is a lot to risk if anyone is not adequately prepared.

It is well. Some post increases one heart beat.

let her reapply ASAP. Do her calculation and documentation well.

Choose another POE. (Now i believe bigfido).

Moreso, she needs to be assertive and well articulate with the CBP.

I have to coach DW over and over. You need to see serious drilling. $7,000 is not a small money (maybe she did not prove enough).

Ultimately be prayerful.
If the patient had her hospital and doctor's paperwork and $7000, she should not have been returned if she was truthful.

I ve got no info on VBAC friendly docs in houston.

you may have to google "VBAC friendly docs+houston area"

read up on the reviews.. very important so that you dont end up with a doc that's already planning to put u under the knife whilst sweet talking you with encouraging VBAC..

ciao
The above comment is correct

Regarding VBAC (Vaginal Birth After Caesarean). Once a patient has a Caesarean, most private doctors will advise a Caesarean. This is due to the scar tissue on the uterus where there is now less flexibility and more probability of tear at the place of the incision. The amount of time or reason for the inicial (previous/1st) Caesarean does not matter.

Due to medical guidelines, doctors are required to stay by the patient if they offer VBAC from the onset of labor. This could mean the doctor is away from the clinic for 2 days, which is why (aside from the increased risks, increased costs and no guarantee of baby being born vaginally) doctors rarely offer VBAC.

The few doctors that do offer VBAC will generally charge more than what a Caesarean would cost to offset the time away from their practice. Others will say they offer VBAC and use this as their niche, and in the end, end up advising the patient that the procedure was not possible, never intending on delivering the baby by this mean from the beginning. Still, other doctors with less patients due to their patient medical history will offer this procedure since it represents a flow of patients that are not informed as to the reason other doctors do not offer it or the doctors credentials.

Hi Everyone,

My very first post here and i am very glad i found this thread 2 weeks ago. Actually i am totally new to NL and have been reading as a Guest for those 2 weeks now...at every spare time i have.
I have used the past 2 weeks of stumbling on this thread to read through old post to enable me familiarize myself with how things are done. I must say pple have put in alot of work to give we "novice" mums/dads a wealth of information for FREE.... was so surprised cos i tot Nigerians never share stuff like this.

A little bit about me.

this is my 2nd missionary journey but d very 1st we are considering in the US
I used to consider myself super sharp at things like this but after reading transcripts from pple i realized i cant do this on my own lol
I have filled the interview forms for my hubby and i and interview is scheduled for the 2nd of May
I would be 21 weeks by then and showing of course so i plan to say at the interview that i would be going for vacation and to go and birth
Would be staying with my friend in Texas
My hubby and I are working and have some money saved and would be showing all those details at the interview
...........i believe this is a summary

My question;
i am currently searching for a good hospital in Texas. Has anyone given birth in Texas? i have been going through the thread but i am yet to find any Texas(maybe i missed it).
As advised by @Tvegas and other pple in the thread, i need to get a good hospital that would understand the need of a self paying patient from Nigeria and with a doctor we can relate with well well.

I dont want to bombard all questions at once so i plan to be very active asking questions and sharing my birth diary as i update it for others to learn from....

Thanks in advance to anyone who replies to this

Cc @justWise
the add for Texas Childbirth is on this on every page of this forum.

Hello Everyone,

I would like to thank everyone that responded to my question earlier in Part 3.
I would also like to say that my journey to the USA was a breeze. I arrived Apr 1 and despite my obvious belly I was only asked 2 questions

Officer at POE :Why are you visiting the US.

Me: For my vacation

Officer at POE: What do you do?

Me: HR manager at bla bla ......

Officer at POE: ok welcome .Stamps me in for 6months and wishes me good luck.
They didn't check my bag or anything..

I went in through Houston.

Thank you
The officer typed on your file that you came for vacation. If/When you travel to the US you will surely have your baby with you, which although many have their baby in the us is still a very small minority of the people that travel there. There will be no record of you saying you came to have your baby and a record saying you came to vacation on exactly the same date you baby was born. Since lying is a reason to deny entry and cancel your visa, the decision to not inform the officer of your purpose is very detrimental to your future.

I like this write up, does well highlighting some of the pros for giving birth in the US focusing mainly on healthcare which you can probably get from any other well developed country. I think however for the original poster if you are undecided about birthing in the US you need to review both Pros and cons and make a well educated decision. I will try to list some of both and I am sure others will add where I missed.

Pros for birthing and if the child decides to come back and stay
1.Better Healthcare
2.Better Education
3.Country that has a system that works (Laws, govt, amenities, economy, etc)
4.More Jobs/opportunities for career advancement
5.Better resources/way of life
6.Better Financial/Economic System- Easier access to Loans, funding etc
7.Independence - Children in America learn independence early. See this also a con cos once they are independent some kids tend to start to think they are at the same level with their parents
CNN mentions the top 3 reason's as

1. Higher standard of living than most countries
2. More Financial Security and Stability than most countries
3. Less risk than most countries.

KDK:
For those who can recall, I have a very detailed transcript of wifey'so interview before I took it off for personal reasons. I am however undecided about the POE trnscripts because of what transpired there. However, I will state some facts:
1. As soon as we gave our passports, my wife was asked why she is here. She said child birth. The next next question was where? She said El-paso. The CBP changed countenance and said "the fact you are going to El Paso is not a good sign at all".

2. Doctores Para Ti is not in their good books (at least in IAH),

3. If you use Doctores Para Ti try to pay ahead and take proof of payment from your bank as well as from Doctores Para Ti or stand the risk of being sent back to Naija.

4. If you use El paso, pay for your accommodation ahead. Let the cash on you be for miscellaneous expenses. Carry enough cash irrespective of payments already made. This will show solvency.

5. I discovered Houston POE has nothing against birthing in the USA just make sure you are intact and give honest answers.

6. If you have given birth in the states before, always carry your receipts whether vacationing or not.

7. As we were advised by the CBP, do not use hospitals or doctors that people have been using. Do some research, America is a very big place with many hospitals and doctors. Use the power of Google one of the greatest inventions of our age. This is what people like ladyguinivere and feddy27 have been advising.

8. The Houston POE follow this thread and nairaland.

9. Just like many feared, they no longer regard those e-mails to the consulate. So better you get your plans straightened out. I understand with the dollar palaver, many plans may change. However, try to stick to your plans as much as possible. Be genuine. I am sorry to say but a lot of Nigerians have abused the privileges given in the past and as such future intending mothers pay then price..
!
To patients that do not have a Visa a personalized letter from the doctor is sent as well as a standard hospital prices letter. It is myth that correspondence by email must be proven (and this is being enforced more often, and has always been recommended to not provide email correspondence to eliminate variables and keep the process simple), what is needed is a letter from the doctor. With patients who already have a visa, a letter of admission is sent which is valid at the point of entry (no doctors letter is needed). The official may ask you questions, since there is obvious discrimination in some people, but you will be admitted to the US if you do not lie, have your paperwork and cash/receipt in hand.

There are always people in El Paso. Intown Suites will get full but there is a new package for accommodation at Extended Stay for the same price (but the hotel is much nicer) the patients are being referred there with a special rate and It should be filling up soon.

Everything is pricey in Dallas (groceries, transportation, accommodation, etc) simply because it's Dallas. The weather is nice and if you have the extra money, its definitely an entertaining place to visit (be prepared to travel since Dallas is a bit stretched out).

Do doctors provide services affiliation in more than one hospital? I don't think so o...
I think if you are changing hosp, then your doc must change.....I stand to be corrected though
Yes the doctors deliver at other hospitals other than Oakbend, the problem is the hospitals are more expensive and accommodation is far and pricey.

Please someone should please help me out on this information i am hearing about oakbend. i contacted Dr Fagbohun 2 weeks ago and he gave me hospital bill of 2300. Now i am seeing it has been increased. Please how can i confirm this from him or what can i do? I am so confused. Any other hospital in Texas? pls help me i beg. thanks.
Dr. F did not increase his prices, the hospital did, which means all the doctors patients that are having their babies at Oakbend will pay more. He may have given you the price quote from the hospital, but if you did not pay it, he cannot force the hospital to honor the previous price. If you are enrolled (have already paid your hospital package) the old price quote will be honored. Since Oakbend did not accept bank wire transfers before the increase, its probable that the only patients that are included are the ones that had already arrived in Houston and had paid. Best of luck.

Regarding paying a lot for water, I stopped by a coffee shop and begged for a lil hot water to make my toddlers cereal & I was told I had to pay even as i mentioned it's for a baby. Sadly d water I had in her flask had gone cold so i had no choice but to pay $3 for a few drops of hot water. I felt pained! But hey, dis is America!

And for Oakbend patients, hospital bill has just been increased from $2300 to $3200.Went for my Dr's visit today & wanted to pay for my cousin when I was informed. The price increase don't affect patients who were given d old rate & have pd. These guys don't know how every $$ means a lot to all Naija mamas. May God help us.
This happened before when MIHS increased is prices and everybody flocked to El Paso. This will affect a lot of doctors in Houston (Doctors F, E, etc.) that provide their services at Oakbend.

It helps El Paso that the cost of living (accommodation, groceries, transportation) is lowest too.

Print your Nigerian account statement and carry your cards. Use the statement as proof of funds.

You can also carry things like your employment letter (for you and hubby) showing how much you earn. This can help to prove capacity to pay.

Who has travelled with just 4k cash amd went for childbirth. Will the POE have a problem with the amount?

Is t ok? Bcz dollar isnt coming down. Pleasee
There have been people who enter with even less but it comes down to luck. If they ask you to prove that you have the money to cover your medical cost and you show your medical estimate and only have $4000 cash, you better hope they are not having a bad day or that they like you because most times it seems they are just looking for an excuse to deny entry and not being able to cover your medical bills is a very good reason. The reason most people don't print their bank account statement is because some people have been turned back with the statement because you cannot prove how much is in the account presently. Someone can print the statement, then empty the account. Do not gamble on details if you have the money its not worth the risk to save a few dollars.

Doctores prato is an agency stuff..so their hospitals and doctors are been paid by them after they've removed their own commission, think that's how it works.
DoctoresParati is a billing and admissions dept for many doctors in El Paso. It is how most doctors work in the US so they can focus on seeing patients and not have to worry about billing and collecting.

There are always many people from Naija at Intown Suites and Extended Stay who are having there baby, you will definitely not be alone. A lot of people also find it convenient that Wire transfers are also accepted so there is even more patients so finding people in El Paso will not be difficult.

Hello House and Good spirited Nigerians,

I am a newbie on this section..I can see people are very helpful here in answering questions.I am thinking my wifey should go have her delivery in the US though EDD is still more than 5 months away. However,I have a few questions and i will appreciate the experienced mommies and daddies in the house to help:

1.Apart from Elpaso which I got to know on this forum, is there any cheaper hospital to give birth in the US? We do not have any relative in US and my wifey will probably stay in a rented apartment during her stay.
2.At what time should one start the visa application process?
3.How many month's account statement is required at the embassy.
1. Although El Paso hospitals very cheap in comparison to other hospitals, overall prices (groceries, taxi, clothes, hotels, etc) are about the cheapest in the nation, which make up a very big part of the expenses in the trip. Because El Paso is on the border of the United States, Maternity tourism has been specialized in this city and is very convenient and straightforward. Try reading previous pages and you may find other alternatives that may offer a similar price.
2. As soon as possible DO NOT wait, the sooner you start applying the sooner you know if you are rejected or not and may reapply if you want. Also, if you apply before you are pregnant it is probably easier to get a visa. Lastly, by applying soon you can contact the doctor of your choosing to help with the letter of acceptance to help you in your application. Do not even bother getting a letter from the hospital, they will typically not send one.
3. As many as you can. Look prepared, be prepared. The more documents you walk in to your interview, the less likely the will ask for them.

Best of luck!

Hmmn. Unless you have a hell lot of patience and time, I'd advise you just pay $250 to El paso folks. I tried to get this doctors letters for my girl and for almost 1 month, twas pure waste of time. The only hospital that was keen on helping was one Leticia from Houston methodist(Medical Center) and I've already foollishly told her I specifically wanted to go to Methodist Sugarland to Dr Fagborun so when Dr Ff didnt come through, I was too embarrassed to go back to her.

Keeping fingers crossed and hoping my girl gets this visa.
It came up on an earlier post with an interview that El Paso (www.doctoresparati.com) is sending the letter as they are requesting at the Embassy. Please take the time to read this forum so others do not have to do your work and information is not repeated for those who do read.

Good day All. It been very worthwhile following this thread. My wife and I have really learnt a
lot.We were at the embassy this week, though was not denied, but not given yet. Here is our
conversation with VO.

VO: Good morning Guys
ME: Good morning
Wife: Good morning
VO: What are you going to do in USA
Me: Initially vac & then Child birth later in the year but we have to cancel vac cos wife
just go a job
VO: So when do u want to travel now?
Me: April xx
VO: How can your wife travel when she just got a job
ME: She is entitled to Maternity leave and that is statutory
VO: OK
VO: What do you do for your company?
ME: bla bla
VO: How much do you earn?
Me: bla bla
VO: How much is the cost to you?
Me: 14k and handed budget sheet to him
VO: Do you have correspondence from doctor?
Me: yes, handed over email exchange with Dr's PA
VO: You don't have a letter?
Me: Dr's PA promised to send it today -(that was through actually)
VO: No no dis doesn't work, anyone could send an email
Me: really she promised to send it today
VO: No no that doesn't work, then was typing
Me: I'm sorry, i don't have it now then kept quiet -(I didn't want to argue)
VO: typing...
Its interesting that they no longer want to receive emails as evidence, and will surely complicate some people's applications. The VO is asking for the documents that Doctoresparati offers with enrollment and personalized letter.

It seems as the more the Naira devalues against the dollar, more people are encouraged have babies in the US for future security for their families.

El Paso is still consistent with its prices and services. El Paso is experienced with birth tourism since it is a close distance from Mexico.
