kingreign:^^^ Finally got access to the car after a long wait. I had to scan in a hurry with the only available scan tool and take pictures with my phone b4 giving the car back. Very low tech process. The pictures are shown below:

BOOMnaija:^^^ This "analysis" is incomplete and misses the point completely. It is easy to blame the usual fall guys - almajiri, mallams etc. for voting for Buhari - even though they do have the right to make their own choices. What of the states that have very few almajiri and mallams and yet Buhari won? This convenient excuse of blaming almajiri, mallams etc. is getting very old and very tired. What of those states whose indigenes claim they are educated, sophisticated, republican etc. and who still voted for Buhari? How come you have nothing to say to them? ![]() |
Bungalow:^^^ ![]() Only perverts use this kind of imagery and language to describe an election. You think rape is a joke? And by the way, b4 you tag me an Atiku supporter I didn't vote for Buhari or Atiku on Saturday |
![]() The approval by this man is premature. But it is designed to meet a pre-determined objective so no surprises there. Anyway what do you expect? This diplomat is from a country that has had more than its fair share of electoral malpractice - from the hanging chads of the 2000 elections to the gerrymandering that is taking place over there even as I write. In some respects, the USA is just like Nigeria. Gratuitous violence is the American way. It is part and parcel of the American soul - that's why the US ambassador is finding it hard to condemn electoral violence in Nigeria in the strongest terms. Rubbish. |
Jarus:^^^ Highly subjective. Some luxury car buyers don't care one bit about reliability. But some do. It all depends on which target market the car manufacturer is interested in. There are some luxury car buyers who purchase luxury cars and give the same vehicles (still running perfectly) to their children 15 to 20 years later when these kids are getting ready to go to university. (And the parents go right out and buy another Toyota/Lexus. Or two.) Those are the sort of customers who buy Toyota and Lexus. And Toyota/Lexus wants to keep them happy. Side Note: Those customers teach a beautiful lesson about how money gets to be old and then stays old. Buy something that is well designed and well made and keep your money in the bank (or wherever else it can truly work for you). Instead of trading in for the latest model in 3 years or burning piles of cash on endless out of warranty repairs (most new luxury car buyers are smart enough to avoid the latter though). There was a time when Mercedes Benz actually sold mostly top notch vehicles and their 'best or nothing' slogan actually meant something. Those days are long gone though - perhaps forever. Toyota/Lexus occupies that space now. |
![]() The full story isn't out. There is a lot we don't know about this case. And yet some posters (without having the facts) have already 'sentenced' the female in this case. She has been described as "loose", "irresponsible", etc. Basically a schemer who 'deserved' what she got ![]() I suggest that those with such complaints direct them to the barrel chested, shirtless fellow in the video. Yes - the fellow in the jeans and the bright green track shoes. I believe he will attend to them promptly. |
![]() A cynical move by a cynical government. In favour of a greatly undeserving group. What next? Mandatory free flight tickets? And if they are not issued, the pilot and crew get a beating? |
^^^ OP I hope you have fixed the problem. Exhaust fumes have CO (Carbon Monoxide) and the effect in a car with wound up windows could be deadly. If you drive that car long enough in that condition you could actually lose consciousness behind the wheel - with catastrophic results. Don't delay any further if you haven't fixed the problem. |

^^^ Q1: When I checked your shop a while ago the VIN option didn't work out for me. Non-USA vehicle so your database didn't respond. ![]() Q2: I saw the synthetic diff oil on my last visit to your shop a few days ago. Will explore that option ASAP. Any views on the Project 200 link I provided and their procedure for ATF drain & refill? |
dru23:^^^ I assume this was meant for someone else? I am a humble parts buyer like most of us here... |
![]() The main article says nothing about safety although the topic asks this question. ![]() High profits "emphasize quality" and help Toyota/Honda build world class cars? What is the relationship between profitability and product quality? ![]() This article is all over the place... |
kingreign:. ^^^ Ok. Thanks. No DTCs. Will run a live scan ASAP and post the results. |
If it helps, another vehicle owner has reported the following about her 2008 Toyota Sequoia (3UR FE). When the vehicle is switched on the radiator fan immediately comes on and stays on, running at high speed/revs. The condenser fan also comes on immediately the vehicle has been switched on but it runs for a couple of minutes before going off. Any one with some experience with these vehicles to confirm our suspicions? Both vehicles have been well looked after, with few opportunities for local mechanics to tamper with stuff. The main difference is that the Sequoia was bought new from North america and shipped down here while the Land Cruiser was bought new here in Nigeria from an authorized dealer. |
kingreign:^^^ Taken earlier on today at idle after a 30 km run with the car fully warmed up...

radautoworks:^^^ Thanks for the prompt response. Q1. Motor parts - Commonplace parts such as oil filters are a problem. For example, this land cruiser uses a spin-on oil filter. If we try to buy the filter from amazon/summit racing/rock auto etc. and we key in the model year, make of vehicle etc., we will be sold a cartridge filter. Same thing happened when I tried to buy an oil filter from your shop. (Unlike our vehicle, the 2008 Land Cruiser sold in the US is a 5.7L V8 and the oil filters are different). Other parts such as fuel pump assemblies are also a problem - we have two stand alone fuel filters that were bought in error for this land cruiser whereas the correct fuel filter is built into the fuel pump assembly. We are now wary of buying any more parts until we are sure of what we are doing - the VIN would sort this problem out immediately so why don't these merchants use that instead? ![]() Q2. Transfer Case - thanks. Will check the fluid every now and then to be sure it isn't degraded. Q3. Differential oil (front and rear) - Thanks - although synthetic lubricant is preferred (Red Line or Penrite) when we are ready to drain & refill. Q4. ATF: From what you say, at just under 60,000km, we are over due for a drain and refill. From personal experience with my own vehicle (Corolla), a drain and refill is definitely better than doing nothing but the old ATF fluid left in the system quickly dilutes the new refill and the benefits of fresh ATF are lost almost immediately. Under what circumstances would you perform a flush? A flush would definitely get rid of nearly all the old ATF but it has its (many) critics. Check out the link below and tell me what you think - I personally prefer the method used by these guys. Do you think this method can also be used to drain and refill for other Toyotas (Corollas, Camrys, etc.)? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3h1zcvZW2Zc&index=25&list=PLnjHGTM6N5Zm707ANuXa_xAIp5O-CMlpS&t=0s |
Good thread. A few questions about a Toyota Land Cruiser (2008 model year, 2UZ FE engine): 1. Whenever the vehicle is started the radiator fan immediately comes on and stays on, running at high speed/revs. The condenser fan also comes on immediately the vehicle has been switched on but the condenser fan does not run as quickly - it runs slowly. Is this normal – should both fans come on at the same time once the car starts? And should they run at different speeds? Owner says the thermostat has not been removed or tampered with as far as he knows. 2. The oil pressure indicator consistently remains in the lower third of the gauge – it never reaches the halfway point of the gauge. Is this within specs? 3. And finally, the temperature gauge indicator never reaches the halfway line. We are concerned about this when taken with the two previous points above – 'low' oil pressure and a continuously running radiator fan. From what I have seen here, things seem to be pointing in the direction of the unspeakable – that is, the thermostat has been removed and the cooling fans have been bridged . But we need expert opinion before we go further.Weigh in with your views... |
radautoworks:OP, Interesting thread. First question: I have some enquiries about a couple of 4wd Toyota vehicles - a V8 Toyota Land Cruiser (2008 model year, 2UZ FE engine, 4.7L) and a V8 Toyota Sequoia (2008 model year, 3UR FE engine, 5.7L). While the Sequoia was built for the US market and bought there, this particular Land Cruiser was bought locally. There are usually no problems buying US aftermarket parts or OEM for the Sequoia but the Land Cruiser owner cannot confidently buy US aftermarket parts (or even OEM) because the vehicle VIN is not recognized. All too often, its a trial and error thing and he ends up with the wrong parts. Very frustrating. Any suggestions?Second question: We checked the transfer case fluid of both vehicles some months ago and the fluid seemed ok - no darkening or visible signs of degradation – it was clear that both vehicles are very rarely used in low range (4LO). The transfer case fluid has never been changed - in 11 years. Would you still recommend a drain and refill? 11 years is a long time after all… Third question: During our checks a drain and refill of the front and rear differential oil for both vehicles was done. Unlike the transfer case fluid, the diff oil 'looked' very dirty and we felt it was necessary to drain and refill. Quite straightforward although finding the right oil was quite a challenge and we had to settle for Pure Guard Gear oil (85W 90, GL-5). Toyota recommends some weird OEM fluid (Genuine Toyota Differential LT fluid 75W-85) that is very expensive and hard to find. Any options you would suggest for the next drain and refill? Fourth question: The ATF seemed ok (still a clear pink? red) but no one seems to know exactly when it should be serviced and how. Your technicians said given the low mileage (less than 60,000km for both vehicles) no service required for now. Owners manual merely recommends an inspection at given intervals. Vehicle owner doesn't want to wait until its too late. When is a good time? Also, when performing transmission service - do your technicians only drain and refill the ATF from the sump or they also disconnect the oil cooler lines to get rid of the old ATF in the torque converter? |
modestbrowser:^^^ I do sir. Perhaps not as much as you but I do know a little. Note that I enclosed the word 'cowardly' in parentheses. Hyenas (when in packs) compete directly with lions for prey, sometimes seizing their kills and running them out of an area. That definitely requires stoutness of heart. (And large numbers also help too.) But hyenas (when alone or in pairs) have also been observed to be unusually reluctant to attack potential prey when such prey display the slightest signs of aggression - perhaps because the 'prey' were dangerous predators too. There's a widely circulated video of an injured African wild dog taking on a lone hyena - with the hyena inexplicably backing down, despite the dog's severe leg injuries. Solitary cheetahs and Leopards (despite being at a great size disadvantage compared to hyenas) have also been known to run hyenas out of town (in a one on one situation). Again the crucial factor is the number of hyenas - you can imagine the story would be very different if the entire hyena pack was in the mix. |
oshaosha2014:^^^ I didn't mean it that way at all. Extreme risk taking is a pan Nigerian trait. ![]() |
Surprising that it wasn't muzzled. Hyenas may have a reputation for being 'cowardly' but they have the strongest jaws among mammals - a bite force strong enough to make short work of elephant bones. Those people would do well to steer clear or things could take a very different turn from what they planned. Keeping a wild hyena on a leash with its jaws free - and having humans standing just yards away isn't a good idea. |
RhemaDavids:^^^ ![]() I can safely bet that if I were to dream about my former workplace, I would be heading there with grenades, body armour, high calibre arms and ammunition - and the full expectation of a nail biting hostage situation . Some people will have it served hot that day until the SWAT team lands .On a more serious note - perhaps you need to relax. This dream may not have any deeper meaning. It may be stress or anxiety that may not even be work related. Take a break if you can, de-stress, rest, exercise, eat properly and then see if things improve. |
Mr. Owolabi Salis has become a figure of fun but sometimes the simplest messages are the important ones. The man kept hammering on 'returning the commonwealth to the people from the hands of one man' and getting rid of the 'violence brigades'. And he has a point. Remember Lagos state legislators and their attempt to legislate Alpha Beta Consulting as a permanent revenue collector (into perpetuity!)? And people think this is normal. One man prospering at the expense of generations unborn. Remember the mindless violence at the Ikeja APC rally a few days ago? And people think this is normal. Normalizing thuggery. Is that the so called 'progressive' 21st century politics? People had better wake up. |
Revealing debate. I didn't know the FOI legislation excludes financial matters - I will need to fact check Mr. Gbadamosi's assertions. This is the time to extract specific promises from politicians - promises to which they should and must be held acountable. But will Nigerians insist on this? This thread has just 6 pages so far. That in itself speaks volumes - there are football threads running into 100+ pages within 1 hour - on this same NL! A people get the leadership they deserve. |
Oshigun:^^^^ No Sir. MC Oluomo is needed and necessary for some people - and we all know who those people are. But not for me or anyone I know. You have drawn some odd parallels between NE Nigeria and what SW Nigeria will become if MC Oluomo is no longer in the picture. You are actually late to the party because in some respects, there isn't really much of a difference between both regions. It is just the ferocity of the violence and the scale of it which separates the two. Anyone who has been caught up in Oshodi when it boils can testify that rape, robbery, murder and extortion are commonplace. Sir, there is nothing to appreciate in your MC Oluomo. You speak contemptuously about Shekau's terrorists and uncivilised barbarians slicing people up. Have you seen the video clips of the Lagos rally where it all went down? Were the thugs in those clips holding books, library cards or flowers? Or is this a case of "my barbarians are slightly better than Shekau's"?Call a spade a spade. |
phineas:^^^ No sir. You cannot in one breath say you "do not support thuggery" and then turn round to praise this man's daughter. It just doesn't add up. There is nothing noble or heartwarming here in this girl's "defence" of her father. Just one more example of defending the indefensible. There are children who have publicly broken ranks with a parent (or both) over some (far less severe) misdemeanor on the part of said parent(s). That takes guts. That takes heart. Since this girl can't do that, it would be better if she said nothing at all. |
Oshigun:^^^ ![]() There is nothing refined about him. And yes, innocent Nigerians have been hurt by the actions of this so called political enforcer. There is nothing to celebrate there. Zero. And before you tag me as one of those belonging to the 'enemy camp', note that I have the same disdain for those who employ thugs, enforcers, armed robbers etc. - be they from kwara state, lagos state or any where else for that matter. May be I shouldn't even bother. A poster starts an online argument with his very own self (happens all the time here), sucks in the unwary who take sides - and - mission accomplished. An unecessary controversy is ignited. Perhaps that's what's been done here... |
Marotzke:^^^ This list is something else. There are names on that list I haven't heard or read about in at least a decade. Time marches on. |
Ekpekus:^^^ I tried and tried but I just couldn't remember Iwuanyanwu Nationale. Funny enough I did remember Julius Berger and BCC Lions but I wasn't sure if they were still around. Time flies. |
