Nairaland GeneralRe: Why Don't Nigerians Like To Be Corrected? by walcolm(m): 11:14am On Sep 26, 2011
riyageh:
Why exactly are most Nigerians sensitive when they or someone else is corrected? I know this does not apply to every Nigerian, but even on this site, when a person corrects the grammar of a posts, all hell is let loose. I am beginning to wonder if English is no longer the lingua franca for Nigeria.
well, i dont know how vast your knowledge of the internet and worldwide web is but it has always been considered rude to correct other people's grammar if it is posted in cyberspace. a few other ethical rules are do not type in upper case, do not type in bold or red font

i noticed your location says US, if you get on a public blog and start correcting people's grammar on a US website, you will get the same response so the reactions you have received has nothing to do with Nigerians

Is that why RIM [BB's maker] is seriously  losing market share to the above two?
Dude, better get your facts right before you post.
since you know enough to know what market share is, let's expand on that with a few questions to channel your thinking, (you sound more intelligent than some of the other responses to my post although i did detect a bit of insultive tendency in your last line)

1. how many professionals are out there in the world compared to jobless people & students (pry all the way to tertiary institutions)

2. if a market size is 1 million and the market is now 10 million, the provider who serviced 750,000 of the original 1 million now services only 2million, has that market share increased or decreased?

The world best phones which is the I.phone and Andriod phones are so useless in Nigeria, and on the other hand Blackberry(bb) is over hyped because of the bb craze, . . . . I think it has alot to do with professional consolidating on BB as a work tool, besides you can't tell him not to reply his clients though but they should be moderation.

Swift SMS has got a big clue to what you need to do.
professionals didnt consolidate on  a bb as a work tool, the blackberry is the work tool for any serious minded professional and your iphone and android phones are mostly play things

My Felllow NL, I need your advice on this.

Out on a first date to Cinema for a Movie with a guy that has been hunting me down for a year now, He is cool and seem caring although i cant bet on that for now.

But the isssue here is that i notice he has this BB(Black Berry) fever where by he cant just get his hands off his phone for 1 min. Even why watching movie in the Cinema, he was always cautious of the phone. Even while communicating with him sitting down, he his always on his BB. This is really irritating me, when i call him notice about it, he will apologise and have a concentration of about 2-3 min then he's back on the BB again. Sometimes, he would ask me to sieze the phone from him until his through with his discussion with me, But how long am i going to continue seizing phonehuh He is not a BB first timer/ user. He claims he has to respond to his clients online and , Funny enough he wont let me be.

Please whats your own take or View about this? Its that bad that a female friend of his had a fatal accident on a bike just last week due to pinging and thats the second time she is having that, I notice even on the streets, Express/ road, Markets, You find such people with that flu, How can i address this with himhuh
just get a bb and you will understand why he is so attached, before my wife got her bb, she used to get annoyed that i was attached to mine, after she got hers, she has asked me many times how she managed to live without a bb and why i didnt encourage her to get one sooner

What an effort!!

I think mistresses often lack self-esteem, to walk away from a man who cannot commit to her, or they do not actually want commitment, they just want what they can get from you. They are high class LovePeddlers, sleep with a man in return for money and other things.

.
what makes you think a mistress wants commitment? if she wanted commitment, she would not go with a man thats already taken. do u think mistresses are faithful to the married men they date? get real and stop brandishing the self esteem buzz word, its got nothing to do with this type of set up

RomanceRe: Could He Be Denying The Existence Of His Kids? by walcolm(m): 5:12pm On Sep 19, 2011
Seaside 10:
Hi all, I have chosen to start a thread with a new ID because my boyfriend knows my NL ID.I feel awful for putting him on blast like this but after contemplating about it for a while I'm at my wits end about this situation.

I have known my boyfriend for 3 years but we started dating early this year.We recently attended a gathering here in London, where we ran into a friend of mine and who was with her aunt who was visiting from Nigeria.

As we were having some small talk my friends aunt excitedly mentioned her sister was married in the same town where my boyfriend comes from.
A few friends came over and started talking to my boyfriend who excused himself briefly for a few minutes.
My friend's aunt then chose this moment to say that it seems as though my boyfriend is doing well for himself and he should now start thinking of bringing his kids to the UK. shocked shocked shocked

My friend told her aunt my boyfriend didn't have any kids to which she smiled and said she knew his family well,She advised me to tactfully ask him about it because she kind of understands why he hadn't told me he has kids, she even knew his kids live with his parents.

He keeps saying he has no kids.I spoke to his brother who swears there are no kids and we chatted with his sister on FB who said there are no kids either. This is causing some strain in the r/ship at the moment,I'm mystified about all this and I would appreciate some insight on this

Apparently I think it is a deliberate ploy by RIM to up sales of batteries, chargers and eventually phones. I don't think you're ever gonna find a long lasting battery solution to a blackberry phone, no sirreee!!! I currently use 9700, 9800 and am hoping to a 9990 ( I dunno why huh) but even then something in me still thinks blackberries are seriously overrated. undecided
try one of the other smartphones i listed in my earlier post and convince yourself

One thing that is synonymous with BB users is BB chargers. From lobbies to classrooms and even churches, you will find them looking for sockets frantically because their BB device is about to go off. Will love to the aggregate the views of you all on the BB device (bold1, bold 2, Torch, Curve, Javelin, Storm et al) with the most durable battery life. Maybe we can all arrive at a preferred BB device that can save us from the embarrassment called PHCN. loool

i disagree with your submission above, compared to other smart phones wit the same data and apps capability as the blackberry, the BB has actually been benchmarked to have the best battery time per charge

get yourself an iphone, android or windows os phone and compare

@divalis, i hear your story and based just on what you have posted, nothing indicates to me a reason for any rational guy to hit you

like i have posted earlier, i believe physical violence against anybody is wrong and i make no excuse for any guy who hits a woman

if you had read the analogy in my first post on this topic, i gave an example of a scenario where a guy tries to do just what you have said and walk away but the small sized, sharp tongued lady he is with blocks his path just so she can continue abusing and cursing him, is that right? because she's a woman she's allowed to do that?

these days there are now so many guys out there getting physically abused by women right here in nigeria where there are no laws to protect women against violence just because those women know the man will not hit them back, is that the way it should be? should women not also tame their psychological and emotional abuse of their men with the use of their tongue during disagreements? it is amazing the way the tide has turned in this domestic violence scene but yet women will still shout to high heavens that men are hitting them

in summary, the beating is justified, since the men have been pushed to breaking point, and u are implying that your mother was also responsible for her own experience, WOW!!!!! I don't need to crack my brains on what you will advise your sisters or daughters then, each to his own anyhow.
wow, did you even bother to read what i posted? so disappointing you'll make a comment like that
FamilyRe: by walcolm(m): 10:56am On Sep 14, 2011
@oyinmama & debrief, i feel your story and agree with what you have both posted and those things have happened and sometimes still happen till today, my mother was a victim of that too so i know where you're both coming from

but what of now? are the new generation men to continue to pay for what their fathers and fore fathers do? all u need to look at is divalis post to understand what i mean, some women push their men to breaking point and tell them to be the man and walk away, hmmmmm,

most guys today have witnessed domestic violence against their mothers as they grew up and most abhor it and would never raise a hand on their woman but most women dont seem to understand or appreciate that

my point is there are 2 sides to every story,
FamilyRe: by walcolm(m): 7:52am On Sep 14, 2011
physical violence is wrong and it doesnt matter who is the victim, like some people have highlighted, culture and a weak judicial redress system makes it easy to get away with violence

i will be contirbuting contrarian views to this topic, i didnt read all the posts but from the ones i read, i have noticed tunnel visioning, everybody aligned in one direction, men are the bad guys and women are the victim

so lets narrow down to the specifics of this thread which is violence against a spouse, is anybody asking the question around wives who keep pushing their husbands to breaking point just to get their way?

analogy,
a disagreement happens and the husband tries to leave the scene to cool off but the wife physically blocks his way all the while cursing him and his entire lineage at the top of her voice. there are few choices, the guy stands there and listens to stuff that angers him more or try to move the woman out of the way which she uses as excuse to lash out at him

IMO, i think a lot of the women who claim to have experienced domestic violence contributed more than 80% to the events that led up to the incident by not knowing when to stop and back off

FashionRe: Must A Lady's Wedding Dress Be White? by walcolm(m): 8:18am On Sep 12, 2011
it is well:
Abeg where you get your theory from? In those days, they only say if u are pregnant u cant where white. I'm not sure that still stands these days.
actually Shpit is correct, the concept of white for the bride is supposed to signify 'purity' aka not yet deflowered, if u have been balled or knocked up, you're encouraged to wear off white

these days, since being a virgin is no longer fashionable and virgins dont even exist anymore grin, you can see many gowns displayed even on this thread are not white, signs of the times

OOmpa:
that's the biggest problem we have -I think we both feel that our way is a better way. Especially for my husband there is "world according to Kunle" and nothing else. He even has his own definitions of word -what they mean to him and it doesn't matter the dictionary says something else wink -and that's how I understood it,

That's far from the truth. We have already made a decision of getting a divorce sad My husband claims he is not able to make any compromise or change even a tiny bit, he doesn't know how to or doesn't have the strength to work on a relationship, He believes it is doomed to fail anyway. I am ready to work and fight for my marriage till my last breath -but cannot do it all by myself, can I now?
and Nairaland counselors have made a great job till now, no compaints here,
on the first paragragh, if your husband believes he is the one who defines what is what up to the point of giving his own definition for words, then i think he has BIG issues and he needs serious therapy

on paragraph 2, dont forget your husband's parents divorced when he was very young. this type of thing can and has been proven scientifically to have long lasting effect on people's ability to relate with a partner and stay in a committed family envi and could also be responsible for his centric views as highlighted in my earlier comment

if he agrees to it, he needs to see a psychologist or a psychiatrist asap before he destroys what he has going for him

all u have to do is go to the registrars' office and confirm that your name is on the shareholders list

then take it from there

FamilyRe: House Chores: Should Husbands Chip In? by walcolm(m): 4:34pm On Aug 10, 2011
IMO it depends on what the agreement is, if the guy shoulders the bulk of breadwinning responsibility, then the wife should shoulder the bulk of house chore responsibility

if the wife chips in equally in the finance department, she deserves to have her husband chip in equally at the domestic front. in that case, the husband is not helping out but doing his duty
