In an incident never seen before, residents of West Pokot were treated to a weird ceremony in which a 14 year old girl is set to be married to ‘Yelat’ meaning lightening.

The ‘lightening’ suitor who only makes himself visible to the 14 year old girl and her siblings has apparently pestered the family over a long period of time, forcing them to sell their property and run away with the hope that he will leave them alone.

President Muhammadu Buhari will be part of history making as Ogun Sate will be celebrating 40 years of creation.

The event, agged Operation 40-40′, is to mark legacy projects in the state.

Addressing a world press conference Friday at the Press Centre, Oke Mosan, the Secretary to the State Government, Barr. Taiwo Adeoluwa disclosed that the celebration is not for birthday for the state, but to harvest some completed projects across the three Senatorial Districts of the state.

Adeoluwa said, “our desire to celebrate the creation of the state is not for birthday. We want to speak less on the birthday, forty is a milestone, but for us in Ogun state,the issue goes beyond 40 years.

“We have a huge harvest of completed projects which have been completed for over a year, but we don’t like show off, but to do our thing the way we should be.

“But some elders called our attention to the state creation date which is February 3rd and said we should make it a huge celebration. We have over 100 projects across the state and about 60 have been fully completed. We have selected 40 legacy projects to be commissioned by the President to commemorate the anniversary.

“Buhari has most kindly agreed to visit and commission some of the projects. He will be in the state between Monday, 1 & Tuesday 2 February, 2016 to commission some of the projects. Though we are working to see if he can commission all, they are scattered all over the state. All other projects will be commissioned by our past Governors and administrators,” Adeoluwa said.

According to him, Ogun Central leads the pack with between 14-16 projects followed by Ogun East with 12-14 projects and Ogun West with 12 projects.

Projects to be commissioned in Ogun Central includes Alagbaagba Cocoa Plantation, Odeda; Owowo Farm Settlement; Tomato Plantation, Kotopo; Model School, Kobape, Onijaganjagan and Ewekoro.

Others are: A.A.K. Degun Workers Estate, Laderin,Abeokuta; Three Hills Estate, Kobape; Itoku Flyover, Salon Flyover, Iyana Mortuary Flyover, Ojere-Adatan road, OGTV-Ajebo road, Omida road and Isale Igbein road.

In Ogun East, projects to be commissioned include Model School, Sagamu; New Makun City,formerly Estate of Paradise City. The project was on a 50 hectares and was abandoned by the last administration, but was expanded to 750 hectares.

Other projects are: Oba Akarigbo bridge, Sabo Flyover, both in Sagamu. Model school, Ikenne, now HID Awolowo Model school; Model school, Ago Iwoye; Mobalufon bridge, Ijebu Ode; Lagos garage flyover, Ijebu Ode; Emuren Chicks Farms, which produces about 2,000 chicks daily; and Ijebu Ode township road.

In Ogun West, the longest road constructed by the Senator Ibikunle Amosun administration would be commissioned. The road cuts across four LGAs out of five in the district and it is 110km long. It begins from Ilara and runs through Ijoun, Tombolo, and Oja Odan.

Other projects are: Ilo-Awela road, Model School,Ado Odo; Sango-Ijoko road; OPIC New Dawn Estate, Agbara; Oil Plantation, Ipokia (50 hectares); Cashew Plantation and Rice Plantation,Egua.

As parts of the activities, all past Governors in the state will join the Special Executive Council meeting. All Ex-SSGs and all ex- HoS will also be in attendance.

A similar special session will be held at the Ogun State House of Assembly with all past Speakers in attendance.

Other activities are lined up for the day include novelty football match, quiz competition among public secondary schools, celebration of indigenous icons, Ogun Got Talent and a drama presentation titled “Ojo Ola” will be performed by Ogun Indigene Entertainment.

Many of these project are not public in nature, but business, hence, they may not be sustainable especially after the present admin tenure. Government could have patnered with relevant local and foreign investor by creating enabling enviroment.
Govt. Should hands of business project and concentrate on public project that can create enabling enviroment for business to thrive.
Also, I could see housing project up to 750 hec. I hope this has relevant target population from advancing industrial land use spilling over from lagos. More so I cant hear of any indutsrial estate project and Ogun State lagos surburb project in the list. Governance is not rocket science, its all about willingness to take rational descision base on reality on ground

A CLARION CALL FOR US (IGBOS) TO RESTORE OUR IMAGE:

There is a dangerous trend I have noticed in this country and I wish to appeal to all well meaning Igbo people all over the world to stand up and help to restore our image as a region. Each time I listen to Radio programs or read comments on Facebook, Twitter etc, I notice that people who appear to be defending corruption these days are mostly people from our region. We are good people and highly industrious. We were trained with high moral values, and we're taught to always conduct ourselves in ethical and professional manner. Therefore, my heart bleeds each time I see my people openly defending corruption thereby giving us bad image in the country.

Abacha's son and some of the people who served under him were incarcerated for many years, I didn't see any Northerner shout witch-hunt.... I can bet you, if IBB, Atiku etc are arrested today, no Hausa person will protest. Dasuki has been held for some months now, no northerner has openly come out to protest. Over 100 members of the Shiite group were killed last month by the Nigerian military, till date I've not heard the Hausas shouting "witch-hunt"

When OBJ was president, the people that criticized him the most were the Yorubas. He openly disgraced Tafa Balogun and some other prominent Yorubas for corruption and no yoruba person made any noise. Bode George was jailed some years ago and no Yoruba person shouted witch-hunt.... I can go on and on and on..... even recently Olu Falae was fingered in the arms deal scandal, and the Yorubas have not spared him.

But anytime GEJ's name is mentioned for the way he mismanaged our economy, my people will jump out in his defense.... when did we loose our sense of morality to this extent When did we go this low as a people Are we now proud of evil All over the world, people are held to account for their stewardship when they leave office. Because if there are no consequences for corruption then the whole world will be like a zoo. Sadly, in Nigeria we are shamelessly supporting evil and making excuse for corrupt people. People who say don't talk about GEJ or dont blame GEJ seem not to understand the dangerous path they are taking our country to. This is the first time this is happening in the history of Nigeria.... PMB can also decide to loot our treasury and go and if we protest, the northerners will say he is past we should focus on the future.... the next president will also come and loot and go and this evil trend will continue till the country will finally collapse right before us.

I know that so many people will attack me for this post, but let it be on record that I spoke out at a time like this when some people are giving our region bad image. There are times when silence is not golden. Evil thrive when good people keep silence. We are good people and we must arise to salvage our image and restore National and international trust. Nigeria is bigger than GEJ or PMB. Nigeria should be more important to us than PDP or APC. It's not compulsory for everybody in the country to support the president or party in power, but it's important to criticize objectively. Be a catalyst, not an enemy of state.

God in His infinite wisdom inspired some people to write the Bible, He didn't ask them to write about leaders who succeeded alone, He also inspired them to write about the Rulers who failed, so that we can learn from them. All over the world leaders are remembered for good or for bad. Mahatma Ghandi, Abraham Lincoln, Thomas Jefferson, Nelson Mandela, Olusegun Obasanjo, Bill Clinton, Abacha, Martin Luther King, IBB, Adolf Hitler, Idi Amin etc have all lived and some are dead but they are all still being remembered for their successes and failures.. this is why it's important to always utilize your opportunities very well so that you will be remembered for good after you exit from office/earth. GEJ failed and he will always be on the wrong side of history (just like all our past rulers in Nigeria) so no one should tell me not to talk about him anymore, because there is no future if you don't properly analyze the past and learn from it.

When a child falls down, he stands up and continue running, but when an adult falls down, he will look back and understand what made him fall and address it before taking any step further. Wisdom is profitable to direct.

Let's not forget that the world is not destroyed by those who do evil, rather the world is destroyed by those who support evil....

There is this common statement made in Church or during prayer meetings I feel uncomfortable with. It usually goes like this; ''let us thank God because some people that were here last year are not alive today''. My problem with this statement is that it assumes that we are more fortunate than all those that are dead. But as christians are we not supposed to see the faithfuls departed as the more fortunate ones since they have reunited with God. Are we really better than the dead?

Actually, it is the dead that ended it Hell that we can claim we are better than becos we still have chance of repentance, but dead like apostle Paul who made it to heaven is far better than us.

If someone had told me i will be making a life changing decision like this many years ago i would have been enraged, not at he or she but at the force that would dare cause that.

Was born a catholic, baptised by a priest and cofirmed by the state bishop. I annexed to this by becoming a member of the legion of mary (tho left at one time) i was still faithful to the blessed virgin mary with my bead ritual.

The truth is i only had to do this and that and then the other and relax. By relax, i mean do what ever i wanted. Club, have sex, drink, curse, lie, cheat, disobey other authorities, go nude etc as long as i came back for confession all the time and obtained mercy from God through the priest, i was fine. Maybe they didnt think it was fine i.e my lifestyle but the silence and indifference they showed, gave me the wrongest impression. After all i was always encouraged to go for confession like my life was hanging on it.

This is something that all catholics will understand. After confession we feel a bit unburdened with guilt...for a while. I dont know about others, but mine was not always more than an hour and i would be back to square one (or may be i never left there but thought i did). I was not freaky about the sunday communion thing like others cos i didnt think i was worthy.

Going to the university exposed me to other religious groups. I didn't like the way they shouted while praying but i admired the way they reverred the bible and talked about Christ more.
I thought the catholic church was doing little in the teaching of biblical truths but was still a good model for other churches, mushroom churches.

There were times i made resolutions to turn a new leaf but they always never came to a fruition.
Up till now. I couldn't, i cant keep them. All the rules of right living get lost on me. I just cant change. Talked with our priest every day about this after our doctrinal classes (joined the Opus dei) He suggested i read books of saints who had lived and overcame evil and of course by following the many laid down rules and rituals of the church. I read about mother Theresa, Pope John Paul the II, Saint José maria. Still nothing. It only made me feel unworthy but no power in them.

I decided to read the bible at last after so many procrastinations. I started with John and i have not seen any slight resemblance with the Church. I will continue with Matthew, Mark and Luke this month.

So many things in this old boring book are startling me.

What you experience is called Spiritual Vacum. What you need is infilling of Holy Spirit. A process that starts with baptism of Holy Spirit. Check it out.
No denomination aka local assembly can gurantee you this. Besides you may have special calling on your head and you need to be a special vessel and Holy Spirit is sending alert to you. So allow Him. Shalom.

we shall know them by their fruit, irrespective of their religion or denomination. Men of God are everywhere. I think God used the recent poitical event to reveal to us those who true men of God in Nigeria. I respect this man as one of them.

your article is well articulated. I am a member of RCCG. What you observed about the church is also a concern for the church. They are all signs of perillious times. This does not mean the church is on wrong path with God.
It has been there with starting with Jesus ministry, remember Judas. Be rest assured that leadership of the church is leaving no stone untuned to control this. It was also observed in the early church days remember Dema, Annaniah etc.
