birdman: of course I'm enjoying the knowledge being dropped on this thread by omonnakoda, kats and a few others. Lets not forget what this thread started out as though - a discussion about Kwara, and how the SNC can help resolve ethnic issues in the state. But lets face it, a good majority of the guys talking on this thread obviously have no idea of the Yoruba they talk about. Its as if they think reading online papers and googling is a substitute for understanding the spirit of the Yoruba. Some are already even counting their chickens before it has hatched, delineating who is main Yoruba, what city gets to do what etc. Others have have already ceded Ilorin, a border post of sorts without a fight - I wonder what or who they will be compromising on next. Someone misinformed this people about their heritage otherwise they would never talk like this - even on an online forum.

My 2 cents as a non Ilorin man who spent a good deal of time there, a decade plus. There are parts of kwara that definitely would never identify themselves as Yoruba. But Ilorin is not one of them. If anything, the subversive nature of the Yoruba in Ilorin, and how they have managed to hold on to political power and resources evn with successive military dictators (IBB, Abacha) tipping the scale in favor of the Hausa is a source of fear for the hausa oligarchs. Even Saraki turned out to be a yoruba embed, and came close to getting the nod for northern candidate for president. I remember one prominent northern elder cussing Saraki generously. The fact that they had been played for so long struck a deep nerve.
