We've always known that the military is poorly funded, it's nothing new.
While we all want to see our boys in shining, new and advanced MRAPs and IFVs, this is acceptable for now since it will save life's and reduce the number of boys that have to be inside soft skins. I am not sure but I think this was pulled together from out of service cobra APCs.
If the defense planners aren't senseless, MRAPs should be included in the recent procurement we've been getting hints about.

I posted that in response to his comment that the military has been showing disproportionate quantity of weapons captured to terrorists killed(he speculated that they are using it for propaganda) and I proposed to him that the military could do such propaganda without raising suspicions like he is having if they really wanted to, like the lie will be more believable if we are told they killed 100 terrorists and 100 weapons were shown as proof, they could easily assemble 100 guns from their amoury to prove that point. My inference was that it is very unlikely that all the statistics we've been seeing are doctored.

Why do Boko Haram overrun some(remember I said some) Military bases??(some of the bases have enough men to secure them)

1) Is it because of Lack of Ammunitions and Equipment:(Remember after successfully overruning the base, the loot weapons and Ammunitions.)

2)Is it because of Lack of Confidence??(Most times we hear of soldiers Neutralizing these attacks).

3) Is it based on their training?? (Somebody once said here that Depot graduates 4000+ recuits at once. Is it that during training their are not taught how to coordinate and return effective fire during attacks??

Gentlemen let us debate

Most points raised by others are true and play key factors but one important thing we all aren't considering is the fact that a soldier will think more than two times before he throws caution away to attack terrorists recklessly whereas the terrorists are actually looking forward to die in battle, they've been indoctrinated to believe a great reward await them on the other side. No one won't flinch when being attacked by waves of terrorist who care more about killing you or die trying than protecting themselves. That is why the terrorists have high casualty rate on their side in any engagement with the Army. If it were to be a conventional military, the result would be entirely different.
Another point is that the army is very slow in evolving to meet up with the dynamics of warfare today,they've been trying to catch up lately (super camps, Hescos, and others) but we are too far behind.
So many other little things play important roles in the defeat of the army.
Take for example, the Army as a whole has lots of bullets but a specific number is assigned to each soldier/unit daily, if you exhaust, they will definitely give you more but the process of requesting for too much time than you can have in battle, so such a soldier/unit will be conscious of the fact that they do not have unlimited bullets and since you are the one defending and do not know when the enemy will stop attacking, you might be economical with the use of your bullets. On the other side, the enemy attacking knows the duration it can attack for, he came prepared and has planned most of what he is going to do, when he exhaust his ammunition, he simply retreats.

Many of us here have noted the disparities between the numbers of terrorists killed and number of weapons recovered,well I recently read a comment from a COIN expert (David Otto Endely) that the idea of the super camps have greatly limited their access to arms and ammunition. We all remember how they used to overrun FOBs with superior numbers and firepower and leave with large caches of weapons. There are rarely small formations of troops for them to overrun and collect weapons from so they've resorted into giving one riffle to about 5 terrorists to share, when one dies, another picks the riffle up and so on.
I don't know how true this is though but I believe by now most of us would have noticed the pattern and frequency of attacks recently, they are very desperate for supplies. Yesterday they attempted to attack an IDP that was just supplied with relief materials so as to cart away the relief materials for their own good. About a month ago we all saw a destroyed BHT guntruck with bowls of foods and resources they had just stolen from a community in it (the guntruck that was struck with precision by a rocket/cannon we talked about it at that time here)
We all know they recently asked for ransoms of £500000 to release three aid workers who they would have ordinarily slaughtered and posted online for psychological warfare.
A lot of things are changing in this war.

DHQ just released this video of airstrike on BHT meeting in sambisa. I love how they dropped multiple bombs on the target to make sure that none of the terrorists escaped but I feel they should send intelligence assets in to confirm that they really struck the venue of the meeting and not a decoy.

Officers in the frontlines know well that armoured tanks have limited use in fighting bandits. Even in Iraq, ISIS have captured tens of M1A1 Abrams tanks of the Iraqi army.

What the link is all about is Iraqi government giving tanks to popular mobilization forces that are loyal to Iraqi government and backed by Iran to fight ISIS. The link even stated that all the tanks were returned to the Iraqi government.

Depending on the terrain; in a cross-country bushy terrain, a Toyota hilux can never outrun a modern MBT like the VT-4 or even T72.
Now let’s take a tiled road/asphalt road then a Toyota holiday would definitely outrun a MBT.

But in the true sense of a battlefield scenario you don’t really need speed to terminate targets like technicals, all you need do his to make use of your RWS or secondary weapon for MBTs like the T72 without RWS.
Only a mad terrorist or suicide bomber/V.B.I.E.D. would try outrunning a MBT face to face. Even has soldiers we wouldn’t try that without a ATGM or equivalent .

Even with ATGM sef, you are still in great risk. Modern tanks with APS defeat ATGMs and the APS will relay the location of the ATGM to the tank crews to neutralize. I'm sure the Trophy APS does this.

In fact the relatively slow tank will become a target practice for RPGs and grenades.

A tank with active protection system, 12.7mm AA MG RWS and 7.62mm coaxial machineguns. It's main armament has firing range of thousands of meters, I have see many absurd things in my life but none as absurd as this.
You would need to be within 200m to the tank to be able to use rpg 7 which the terrorist have on it, and even if you are lucky enough to escape being killed by its secondary armaments, the rpg round won't even scratch it.
And it's not even as if there won't be infantry support for the tank sef.

Exactly!!! Jonathan and his service chiefs really bleeped up but that's the past and it is the responsibility of the current administration to right the wrongs. Though, truth be told, things have really improved regarding bokoharam/ISWAP in this administration. I can't remember the last time adamawa was attacked, attacks have also decreased drastically in Yobe state and the terrorist have been largely restricted to northern Borno. But it seems as if they are content with leaving them to establish their caliphate in northern Borno.

How many weeks will it take to train the crews for God's sake?

The effectiveness of a fighting unit is determined by how they use what they have to achieve what they want. Purchasing thousands of MRAPS will definitely help a great deal in this war but even without it and with the little the military has, much can be achieved. If there is Will to end the war, much can be achieved within a very short time frame and with the equipment we have.
Nothing stops the airforce from sending one of their scout helicopters (EC 135 or Augusta for example) to scout that deadly road minutes before the army escorts people on the road.
All settlements along that road or close to it will be closely monitored because that's were those terrorists retire to and resupply from. A lot of things can be achieved.

I read a case study about an evolution in jaji, for lt.to lt.cdr and equivalent course across the armed forces.....the scenario was equatorial Guinea, been used to undermine the federal republic of Nigeria, with France been the puppet master.... this was probably a late 80s course work, and core to the solutions I read was mig 21, with camera going for recon and other variables , and trust me, you will see brains at work and contingency plans and so on......years later, i keep wondering if the way we keep having ambush and other issues in the north east and there seems not to be a counter, are we deteriorating as a fighting force or getting better. The other time it was a Ghanaian lt.col talking about about altimeter Bombs used during Liberia war, used by Nigerian jet.. that I doubt are used now.....I'm a fighting man, and paid my dues....but are we improving or depreciating I'm asking this because I'm a navy guy, and don't know what the land and air forces have in their arsenal.

It seems the service chiefs are content with sacrificing the boys on the field rather than deploy everything we have against these terrorists.
I remember the speed with which troops were deployed to Gambia when Yahya jameh refused to step down. Both army and navy were involved. The same with Mali.
