I have been studying satellite images of some towns in the north east and I have been noticing things that looks like defenses around some major cities like Maiduguri. Can't be sure because they are not really clear. Is there a trench or wall surrounding Maiduguri and most other cities?
Damasak is bordering republique du Niger and Ngala isn't very far from Cameroon.

Who are the Buduma’s:

Wrestling competitions are very common amongst the Buduma tribes in the axis of the Lake Chad. The Buduma (Kanembu/Kanuri for ‘people who can swim) are a mysterious ethnic group who inhabit the Lac shores of Chad, Cameroon, and Nigeria. They are predominantly fishers and cattle-herders. In the past, the Buduma carried out violent raids on the cattle herds of their neighbors. They were feared villains with aggressive reputations; thus, they were respected and left alone for many years, protected by their own habitat of water and reeds.



Two main groups of people live on the islands of Lake Chad. One large and one small group. The bigger group lives in the northern parts and the smaller group inhabits the southeastern islands. Both groups share the same language (Yedinami), but are known as Yedina and Kuri, respectively. However, the general term of Buduma can refer to both tribes or solely the Yedina of the north.



The Buduma’s were initially affiliated to the Shekau JAS faction of Boko Haram, but have since been known to be affiliated to ISWAP and other independent groups resulting in power struggles and friction with the other main tribes like the - Kanuris, Damargu and Shuwa Arabs - hibernating around the axis of Chad and Niger. Amir Bakura (Mallama Bakura), a top Boko Haram commander is known to operate with the Buduma tribes and have been linked to several other Buduma commanders including Amir Shettima Kalaka; Amir Abu Abbas and Malam Musa.



The Buduma’s are known to be excellent users of reed-boats and they operate a large market for Boko Haram ISWAP jihadist in a location referred to as Fepewa and gegime in Niger republic.

Isn't this what has been happening? Ambush on troops moving out of the super camps. One day, these terrorists might get bold to launch a large scale attack on one of these super camps, especially Mongunno which is the closest to the lake Chad area and detached from the others, it only gets support from the Airforce. These period that several livestock would be moved all over the country for Salah celebration isn't the time for the military to withdraw from checkpoints and roadblocks.

So read from David Otto Endely that the purpose of targeting the UN helicopter last month was to force UN to suspend its helicopter operations so that food and medical supplies meant for IDP camps can be transported by road once again increasing the chances of the terrorists to be able to lay their hands on the supplies when they ambush such supply convoys. The security of IDP camps have been increased so trying to get the supplies after it has reached the camps won't work for them.
This is where NAF utility helicopters should come in, continuing the function of the UN helicopter(s) till the time UN resumes its operations.
We all have been seeing the patterns of their attacks since march,it is either to get food supplies in IDP camps/villages, or to distract/probe the military defenses.
Also, I think their migration to the North Central and North East are to gather resources through crime(cattle rustling) and to distract the military. We all know that they don't have enough manpower to maintain their hold in the territories they have right now talk more of expanding to far away regions.
If we can find a way to keep starving them out while also refusing them access to medical supplies needed to treat their wounded, their morales will keep reducing. Already, ISWAP leadership has changed three times in the last two months and we've been seeing members surrendering (some even with their families).

The current security condition in the country is worse than any other time in the last few decades. It is the government's responsibility to ensure the safety of lives and properties, and the government is failing at that, but is the failure of the government the only factor responsible? Absolutely not, I support the sacking of Buratai but the truth is that the situation will remain largely the same or even worse than before no matter who the next COAS is, even if we had the whole arsenal of the United States military to use, these terrorists will just devise new methods to achieve their goals. The situation we are in today is as a result of our economic and social problems. Many youths today believe that the only solution to their problems are crimes and violence, many don't value human lives and covet properties that are not theirs. We expect the government to do every damn thing for us while we sit down to enjoy the fruit of the labor of the government. We only discuss security problems here because it is a security thread but the truth is that there is problem in every aspect of the life of an average Nigerian citizen. The government already borrows far more than it can generate so that it can at least alleviate some of our problems yet we want them to find more money to keep spending. How many of us here pay taxes(especially income tax) yet we receive a lot of benefits from the government in the firm of services and subsidies on goods we consume individually like drugs, food and oil. The government pays #40 on every litre of fuel you use, that might be inconsequential to you but sum up that amount on the average 60 million litres we use in Nigeria everyday and multiply it by 30 days to know what it will amount to every month. Thats 72 billion every month, imagine the number of MRAPs that will buy for troops on the Frontline to save more lives. Americans pay tens of thousands of dollars every year for the duration of their courses to be able to get a college/university degree and many use the greater part of their career years paying "students loan" yet many people not contributing a single naira to the federation account enjoy the same benefit virtually free of charge(howbeit of a lower standard but almost the same value in the labor market) imagine the amount the government will save and will be able to spend on security and infrastructure development if all universities, colleges, hospitals and other governmental institutions are self sufficient like they are in most developed countries.
The most unstable region in the country refused to develop their youths for several decades yet except the government to perform miracles to help them achieve the results of the regions that invested in human development. Was it the government that forced them not to train and educate their youths?. It is so bad that educational bodies uses different standards of measurement for each region under guise of "Educationally disadvantaged states". All those youths they refused to train, what do they expect of them. We all know the story of some other people in another region who under the guise of "amnesty" receive monthly salary for doing absolutely nothing. What do you think will happen when government stops paying them?.
You all should ask people in the western world you so much look up to how hard life is for them too in the essence that they work very hard to get little and must contribute to the finances of the government from the very little they gain from, yet you want the same development as theirs.

My point is that the insecurity problem is a ripple effect of so many other problems caused by every single one of us and people(soldiers, terrorists, bandits, and innocents) will keep dying for several decades to come unless we all start thinking and finding solutions to our problems individually. We've got several things wrong and we haven't even realized that,until we realize that we have no one to blame but ourselves for whatever happened to us and around us, we are going nowhere. That is why the few who can think to some extent are leaving our societies and country so that they could leave with people who are more serious with their lives.

No S300 air defense system has ever been destroyed by Israel or any other nation for that matter, the S300 systems are still being operated by Russian operators and Russia has a deconfliction agreement with Israel, however, Russia alerts the Syrian government everytime Israeli jets/missiles are detected by their radars and that is why the hundreds of Israeli air raids that has been carried out on Syria over the years have managed to achieved nothing beyond destruction of a few buildings. Even the casualty rate is extremely low compared to the number of missiles that have been fired. And at the end of the day, Iran still has a strong influence in Syria and Lebanon and are moving air defense systems very close to Israel.

Now now, you all are politicizing this thread and it will only end up killing the thread, you can criticise/support the military without actually comparing to any past or present administration. The people leading the military today are products of the former military chiefs, they supervise them and promoted them because they deemed them "competent". Regardless of the person at the helm of affairs, the military is still the same organization it has always been. And both current and past administrations have their pros and cons, we all know the stupidity at play right now under Buratai, we all know that it was very stupid of him to remove Gen. Adeosun just because he recorded a video to report to his commanders, we all know the military doesn't care much for the lifes of the soldiers but we will be hypocrites if we choose not to remember the problems of the last administrations too. At least we all remember what the last administration used the $2.1 billion meant for weapons purchase for. That money could have bought thousands of MRAPs and other weapons that could have ended the war.

The best thing for Egypt and any sensible country around Libya right now is to avoid getting dragged into the Libyan conflict. It won't end any time soon and will only cause more problems for those involved. There are very powerful forces supporting either side and even some are supporting both sides. It is a gamble with a very high stake, if Al Sisi isn't ready to be deposed, he should just ignore the conflict and strengthen his forces and borders. Two days ago they kidnapped six locals as they went through their phones and discovered the locals construct latrines for NGOs. Such Abduction will not be in the mainstream media as they are just locals.

SamuelAnyawu, please help ask soldiers in the north east about the general perception about the war. Are their improvements or are we regressing? Why are we seeing a change in the strategy these terrorists use, they have not known to be attacking in the raining seasons from years past. Heard a report from a soldier (not an officer) saying we are weeks away from winning the war and yet still I'm finding that extremely hard to believe.

Come to think of it, isn't it the same soft skin technicals that the chadiens and caneroonians are using, obviously we should be doing far better than they are but the point I'm trying to make is that they use the same technicals we use but with far lower casualties than we get. I'm not even sure the chadiens field armoured vehicles as much as we do. So what exactly are we doing wrong.

We lost 23 men to an ambush yesterday. On the same road they've always been ambushed !
Buratai has used the two terms limit, it ended about 2 months ago. He hasn't tried is best at all and right now even his best isn't enough. He needs to bow out with the remaining honor he has left. And any other high ranking officer involved in sending people's son, father, brother, uncle to ply that road with soft skins knowing fully well that the chances of ambush is extremely high.
