The reason it will be insensible for Syria to deploy fighters to counter the Israeli jets is because the f16s will be back in Israeli airspace which is heavily defended by both Israeli and American air defenses before the Syrian jets reaches Lebanese airspace. It's all about distance, same reason Israeli jets did not enter Syrian airspace. It's all about distance. The distance from Lebanon to northern Israel is shorter than that to Damascus.
