In any case, there is no reason to think getting rid of Hitler would have prevented the horrors of World War 2. Contrary to popular belief, Hitler didn't kill all those people by himself. The holocaust was due to to the actions of the whole of the German government with the active or passive participation of the majority of the German people. Racism and anti-Semitism had been pervasive in German culture for centuries. Racism against Jews was official catholic doctrine, and the founder of German protestantism, Martin Luther himself was an anti-semite who wrote several hate-filled racist books and pamphlets against them. The truth is that the Holocaust or something similar would probably have happened no matter who happened to be in charge in Germany.

Hitler was the poster-boy for the holocaust, but not the cause.

I'd still take my chances though. I'd put my 'faith' in humanity, so to speak. Reckless and illogical, but meh..

Back to your original question:

Let us start by looking at what it means to be an atheist.
To be an atheist, you must hold a materialist worldview which leads to the view than man is only just matter and he doesn't have a soul. If you hold this view that there is nothing more to a person apart from his/her physical body, the person ceases to be sacred - he is just another animal and therefore not of any greater value than a pig or a donkey - and nothing stops you from treating the person in anyway you like as long as you have the power to do it...after all it is just matter you are dealing with.
Stalin is known to have met with Pavlov and tried to convince him standardize the Russian people in a similar way Pavlov conditioned his dogs. (Aren't humans merely another specie of animal after all?)

What is communism:- Communism is basically sharing of property by a community so that everyone gets access to the same resources as they need and no one gets to hoard resources and capitalize on it at the expense of others. Communism at it's core is based on the premise that all men are equal and therefore they deserve equal treatment and no one should be favoured more than all others. Communism on it's own is a good idea and many villages actually practice some form of communism e.g. farming on communal land and sharing the produce at the end, hunter communities who share their game amongst all the members of the tribe so that those who were unlucky to capture an animal don't starve, communal contribution of money so as to educate their children e.t.c.

Nothing in the philosophy of communism on it's own warrants violence however when combined with a materialist worldview, nothing stops a person from using violence to achieve it.

Atheism provides this material worldview and therefore removes any inhibitions that would otherwise have prevented a man from using ruthless violence to achieve his aim. It also didn't help that being militant atheists, these people saw the church as a threat and moved to destroy it.

Hugo Chavez for instance is a Catholic Communist and so you don't see the same attacks on churches and temples in Venezuela as you see in Atheist China and Atheist Russia.
Ho Chi Minh in the same way in Vietnam saw that the real problem is not communism in itself but the religious intolerance of these atheists and therefore he went out of his way to try and reach out to the church to include them in his government.


I see the exact same religious intolerance when atheists try to dubiously use something like "the separation of church and state" (a good concept in itself) to control and suppress religious freedom as in the case of this little girl.
I see no reason why anyone should have the right to edit a personal poem written in honour of my grandfather. There is nothing that stops the school from not selecting the poem. By forcing that kid to edit her poem, they are implicitly teaching her that there is something wrong with holding certain personal beliefs about God. If this isn't a form of religious oppression, I don't know what is.

How many times has it been pointed out to you there's no such thing as atheist scripture, hmmm? Last I checked we don't have any books we hold as the infallible word of "no god" in which "no god" performs genocides for mysterious reasons.
