Good morning Demola, CILT, has a Nigerian contact, its posted here, on one of the discus on the tread, scroll up and you will see.
Demola regardless of the fact that I said certain companies will rather hire expatriates to fill top positions in the SCM operations in their company, there are still a lot of Nigerians that occupy positions in this field, the reason I said that is simply, other then Purchasing or Procurement,…. logistics and supply chain management , you will agree with me is a subject not in our educational curriculum, and it only makes sense to use people with the right expertise and skills to run top positions in this area in any business, I want to believe that for a Company like SPDC, they have taken it upon them selves and has over the years been encouraging their staffs in this sector to follow professional development in P and SCM thru CIPS, and now quite a hand full of the certified MCIPS in Nigeria are SPDC staffs.

For me I do believe there is a future in this profession, it cuts across all industry and sectors, public and private, so as it develops and more organizations locally recognizes the strategic role SCM plays and how is can really affect their entire business if well managed there will be a real need for professionals to hold these positions.

Demola the CILT and CIPS are not local certifications but rather international certification, its recognized globally and thus you are not limited in anyway, .Like you rightly said, not every one of us can go abroad to get further degree or certification that’s why I will recommend CIPS, its international and has a strong and growing local presence in Nigeria and other African nations, they have even made avenues available where membership subscriptions and exams registration fees can be paid in local currency .There are other professional bodies that are well respected in this field like the one in the US, but I chose CIPS because it has a local presence here in Nigeria, and even with out company support its something I can still cover the cost of running.

Take time and search the web, you get a whole lot more info and what’s more every professional training is a lot of study.

@Demola-bad, Glad to know that just like me, you too is interested in Knowing more about the Purchasing and Supply chain management field, Like you rightly said, working just in inventory can be somewhat monotonous. Purchasing and Supply Chain Management, is a chain of integrated activities and stock management or warehouse management is one aspect of the profession, what a certification with Charted institute of purchasing and supply (MCIPS) will give to you I believe, is knowledge and acquired skills, of all aspect of the SCM chain, and not just warehousing… from Knowledge about the business environment in a global economy, to best or Good practice in stock control and management, logistic, supply sourcing, legal aspects of the SCM and Purchasing business, are just a few of what CIPS certification and other well accepted certifications in this sector aims to instill in the holders of such certification, so you don’t really have to work inventory , you can work in the planning aspect of SCM and Logistics, or contract management. The field is quite broad and a good grasp of virtually all the aspect of this filed through a professional certification will go a long way to help you build a career as an all rounder.

Good to know you can join us fellow,……, I will try to find and post stuff on SCM and finance, in the mean while, join the SCM yahoo web group ,its Fun, you can post question and have people well grounded in the SCM field from all over the world, give answers.

Gents, Well said on this issues, those that worked them self’s to the Bone while within the walls of our higher institution and came out with a 1 class or 2:1 degree got what they earned, I believe that even with the rot in the system, its still pretty hard for anyone to cheat, or do what ever other corrupt practice there is to graduate with a 1st class or 2:1 from most Universities.
But I believe the real Issue here is not between those that got Good grades and those that Got better grades, The issues is Why this discrimination of graduates with lesser qualification , why do employers of labor completely throw out graduates with lesser qualification,, this kind of employment policy no matter how justified it may be will only drives undergraduates to be more desperate, either to study harder to get a 1st class or 2:1 ,or to cheat harder using all the tricks in the book, Its natural for the greater percentage of undergraduate to chose the easy way out, and as for graduate with out that qualification it simply leave them bitter and frustrated, especially if you know you worked hard, but just wasn’t good enough for a 1st class or 2:1 .
I believe that there is a whole lot of ways to pick credible prospective employees, having a good grades is just one of them, that’s why its not a certainty that you will get a job with one of those great companies, just cus you got a 1st class or 2:1, you certainly will get more test or interviews, but getting a job takes more that good grades.

Lets bring this discuss to the point of how employers can throw the doors a bit wider and pick from the whole lot, 1st class, and every other class. That’s the issues.
So first class grades and 2:1, there no need to be nasty or high headed, and 2:2 and lesser grades there is no need to throw trivial jealousy at folks that earned what they deserve. Lets use the forum to build constructive discuss as enlightened people

ARIBA .Its a Spend management software, developed and maintained by a corporation know as Ariba in the US, its the software employed by ChevronTexaco/Topcon and Stardeep operations globally including Nigerian ,its meant to streamline activities with suppliers/contractors and the Company on one hand and to leverage operation cost, also to reduce time spent .Since Ariba is online on the internet, suppliers can submit bills real time and get approval, also Chevron staffs making requisitions from supplies or for services can do this with contractors in real time too. This is a simple explanation of the process of eProcurement ( Electronic Procurment) of Services or suppliers
Ariba e procurement is a standard and virtually all Chevron contractors should to have access to, since your services can be catalogued and it will be a lot easier to request for services and faster to have Bills created and settled.

So if you are not using this software now to work either as a chevron staff or contractor, I guess it will be pretty much tough to face an interview or test if called for one.But try all the same

Ariba as a company runs program on use of its software, but I don’t know if it’s done here in Nigeria for now.

We have heard enough of Discrimination against HND graduates …Now its 1st class/ 2:1 against 2:2…not to talk of 3rd class.

Lets not forget also brewing is the discrimination of State owned University graduates .



The Truth be Told…This whole thing is Damm stupid…No policy to regulate employers and our labor laws ,(that’s if we even have any )is so wack,even government is the main proponent of these discrimination…We all cant go to federal universities, we all cant pass out with 1st or 2:! Degrees…that don’t mean we don’t have anything to offer,if that’s the case I think all folks in school that are heading for graduation with a 2:2 should quit school while they are ahead @ least they know what awaits them and that 2:2 degree ( nothing but stupid discrimination) as for Poly student….all I can say is that U Guys need a refund of all fees paid to your schools thus far, that will do u a lot of good in business.

The reason i think is ,rejection caused by past experiences or just being plain scared of the NO!! word .

my advice is handle it the way I handled this thing on a frickin daily basis: where I work, my previous job description put me in contact with attractive coworkers in different branches, and puts me in a position where they get more and more drawn to me, no head-shaking here, it happens to everyone who takes over that particular job- I'm not claiming to be some babe-magnet or whatever, (and some handled it differently, )

@ seekers I must confess that these are very sound steps to follow,and am going to added it to my chest of advice i am recieving right here,i was about giving up and trying to see if i can put all of this behind me,but now i know better, i will work @ it slow and steady, and keep it on the down low as you said,

I went Home yesterday thinking, and i decided that i will trun the Game around,is she really intrested in me,or shes just trying to mess with my mind like a lot of woman do, Now am turning the game on her starting last nite i sent her loads of test, asking telling her someone i know is intrested in her, and since i know a bit about her i realled out lots of quality she will like and told her that this guy has all of that,like he is a six footer,kinda shy,and comes with an intoxicating friendly persona, @ first she was like, what?,and i got to the office this morning just to find out that curiosity has gotten the best part of her cuz now she wants to know who this person am talking about really is, So from Now on its Let the game begin, i did a little research using the women magazine COSMO(sorry ladies i just had to use some expo on this one) Way to really Know if She is Intrested ,, and thats the first one am trying out all ready, it says 1.
