Politics / Re: Yorubas Are The Best In Accommodating Strangers In Nigeria - By Sam Omatseye by Willzkid(m): 5:42pm On May 12, 2012
Definitely not the yoruba I know..
For the past 1 year in one of their 'so-called' most cosmopolitan town Abeokuta, I have been reminded on a daily basis that I am a stranger..
If it is not lecturers secluding me from classes by speaking yoruba in class, it is a trader not wanting to sell for me because in his/her own mind I'm pretending not 2 be yoruba..
Go to Benin, or Warri and you will hardly be given a clue who the indigenes really are..
This whole Lagos story is a contraption...
A visit 2 oshogbo, abeokuta or ado-ekiti should show you how really accomodating yorubas are..
No city dominated by those 3 major tribes(and more recently, the Ijaws) can pass 4 being accomodating..
As for Sam, you won't really expect otherwise from a 'salaried' propagandist...I don't expect any more from tinubu's resident propagandist

@Beaf, I believe Oghene is a also name of God in Edo dialect, though no longer of common use ...You should have heard Benin names like Oreoghene (A street off TV road in Benin bears that name) and Aiwereoghene...I believe the latter literally means you cannot agitate God.
Politics / Re: The Correct History Of Edo? by Willzkid(m): 12:21pm On May 10, 2012
I'm really enjoying this....Good work @ Physics, Beaf and Arosa
However, I'm more aligned to the OP except for those aspects of his post that had mythical dimensions
The two kingdoms of Ife and Benin are quite independent, none can be said to originate from the other. I happened to read Jacob Egharevba's version of Benin history, and in some parts of the opening pages he alluded to some of the contents of the OP especially the migration of both groups- Edo and Yoruba from North Africa. While a group settled in Ife , the others moved forward to Benin.

alj harem:

Busted ko, looted ni

Did you check the link I brought out or not ?

I am not talking about Nigeria where mediocrity is the order of the day, I am talking in terms of the international standard

Actually I don't know why they don't call it a university because it is a polytechnic

Google University of Agriculture Abeokuta

or better still check continental ranking

http://www.webometrics.info/top100_continent.asp?cont=africa

bros, look at your own link and refute any of my claims. There is no agric poly in Nigeria, UNAAB (now FUNAAB) has been a university since 1988- first a federal univ of tech (FUTAB), neva was it a polytechnic. MAPOLY, the only abeokuta based polytechnic is not even on the list. AUCHI polytechnic, Edo state
-95th on ur own link- is Nigeria's highest ranked polytechnic.
Do you want to tell me you can't see these plainly, or you just like to argue?
Sorry, if I may come accross as arrogant, but I'm currently working on performance of some Nigerian universities, the webometrics ranking is part of my selection criteria

alj harem: Jmaine sorry that I did not respond to your comment. I knew this thread was going to be hijacked.

@ Adejoro aka Nchara and Bashr4 etc

State is different from ethnicity lets get our facts right here. For all I care OAU might have all Igbo student but the quality again is way higher than many Nigerian universities.

You two are quick to talk about Yoruba down fall, free education this, Igbos have beaten the yoruba etc and all other childish remarks. I am not looking at it from that point of view. I am look at it in terms of standard of education, employment rate of each university and the great professionals those universities have churn out on a yearly bases.

Tell me how many big successive men Nsukka have produced compare to the ones I listed.

The truth is that Nigeria universities are not up to standard but reality remains those universities I alj harem picked are still the best in Nigeria.

Yes if they are, it would directly correlate to the state in which those universities are to be the most educated.

Most educated is not in terms of number of graduates alone but also in terms of quality education which those state/schools have.

If we now move down to Secondary schools, you would find out that those states have the best public and private secondary schools in Nigeria. Especially Lagos quote me anyday.

If it is poly's as well, Ogun has the best poly in Nigeria which is the Agricultural poly in Abeokuta of which other countries send their people to.

http://www.webometrics.info/top100_continent.asp?cont=africa

Busted: Auchi polytechnic, Edo state is the highest ranked polytechnic in Nigeria, and the 10th institution on d overall ranking. here is no agric poly in Nigeria, let alone ogun state. MAPOLY in ogun state wasn't among the first 100 institutions. Only 4 polytechnics namely Auchi poly, Kwara poly, Yabatech and LASPOTECH made the "1st 100" cut on webometrica ranking...you will do us well to always check ur facts

This country no dey tire for bad and sadistic news? How could a country with so much potentials be turned into the land of the dead, and hopelessness??

The missing link in that shytehole is leadership, and a change in the mentality of the gorillas and baboons living in that part of the world... When are you losers going to rise up, and take a stand?? I have been hearing about the 'potentials' of the humanoids called Nigerians since I was born - but why can't you guys harness these 'potentials', and make something happen?? How can 120million people be so cowardly, uncivilised, fearful, unmotivated, slow, and sheeple - by a miniscule few - who are not up to a million??

Where are your hearts, Nigerians?? Ooooops, I forgot you lot sold that for crumbs...

Where are your balls, Nigerian men?? Oooops, I forgot most Nigerian men are on the 'downlow' with no balls - skinny jeans, and mohican hairstyle wearing faggits smh... And keep doing yanga and shakara - speaking your fake phonetic, with freaking pathetic and annoying britamericojapanesejamoafrican accents - whilst they keep eating your food, and bombing your habitats to abyss..

Can someone please attach the ignore button to that damn space called: Nigeria - so, I don't hear shyte about it again

Potentials!! Potentials!!!! Potentials!!!! I'm tired of this euphemism...

Nigeria is blessed!! Nigeria is blessed!!!! Nigeria is blessed!!!! I'm tired of this allegory........

God is a Nigerian!! God is a Nigerian!!! God is a Nigerian!!! God told me he disowned you fools long time ago - and gave you pulpit pimps, and Islamists..

When there is life, there is hope!! When there is life, there is hope!!! When there is life, there is hope!!!!! Shyte, life told me he left that space time ago, and what you have got left are lifeless bodies - with no soul... So, why are you guys afraid to rock the boat, and make a change

For phuck sake, get your useless country off my TV - and move that space to planet X....

Enough rants for the day! embarassed
This is the height of delusion..coming from the same person who inundates this forum with tomes of pseudo-patriotic posts, I have to ask: are you not tired of your two-facedness?
If you are this confused on an anonymous forum, I can only wonder how u keep up with yourself daily..the earlier u quit this laodecian disposition of yours, the better for you.

Religion / Re: Nothing Wrong With Alcohol, Cigarette – Pastor Chris Oyakhilome? <<Rumor?>> by Willzkid(m): 9:15am On Apr 17, 2012
The issue of drinking and smoking has always, and will always be a controversial issue to many.Too many times folks want to bring in the miracle of Jesus, and paul's advice to timothy. Let me start by saying that even in Bible days, there was wine, and what the bible referred to as strong drinks (Lev 10:9, Num 6:3,Prov 20:1, Luke 1:15). Both have the capacity of inebriation-making people drunk, as alluded to in some of the scriptures above. However strong drinks having undergone a greater degree of fermentation had a stronger and relatively faster manifestation. In today's context we have wines which could pass for juices, even though when taken much they can make one drunken e.g Eva wine .There are also those drinks which are Strong in taste and in effects- Beer, Red wine, Brandy and most of the alcoholic wines could come in here. I strongly believe that it is the former type of "wine" that Paul was referring to in Eph 5:18, and in his admonition to timothy.I also believe this is the wine Jesus converted water into. This kind of wine as alluded to in Eph 5:18, can only make you drunken when taken in excess, however same cannot be said of beer, moet, stout et al. If we are to be sincere with ourselves at the first glass of beer we already start having feelings of inebriation. We should not remove the fact that the Jews were also very puritan in their way of life. Jesus will not turn water into something that will turn a wedding into an Fun. In today's context we can safely argue that he will turn water into something in the form of "Eva wine", or other fruit wines as opposed to beer or stout. Now, bringing in the spiritual perspective, Paul in Rom 14:21 admonishes us not to drink wine or eat meat if it will make another brother stumble. Let's be sincere with ourselves: how many of us will not naturally take exceptions to a pastor or spiritual brother gulping from a bottle of lager beer?..but we will normally feel right with a brother taking a glass of a fruit wine. The beer drinking brother will definitely have a negative influence on us. This is the obvious reason why beer is not served as "wine" for holy communion. Now, to the question of Jesus being called a wine bibber by the pharisees, we have to understand that it was an exaggeration, after-all their saying John the baptist did not eat does not mean he fasted all his life. Back to Rom 14, the 7th verse makes us understand that our lives are meant to inspire others. A smoker or one who drinks does not cut a good christian image, just like a glutton. These might not be outright sins in themselves, but as the 16th verse says "let even your good not be spoken of, as evil". As Christians who want to grow, we should strive to cut off things which impede our spiritual expressions- this is what smoking, drinking and masturbation does. Please read Rom 14, with an open heart. I will not work in an alcoholic beverage or tobacco coy for these same reasons. The devil is not called an "accuser of the brethren" for nothing. You can never tell the kind of idea he will put in a weak brother's head because of where brother Willzkid works

Very good points raised poster, and very erudite piece..for too long we have played too much tribalism with our collective destinies..we see ourselves as Edo,Yoruba, Igbo, ETC..and anyone who does not share our ethnicity is treated with sone sort of paranoia. While we continue being divisive within ourselves our "not so intelligent" leaders see us as pawns on their chess boards. We the Nigerian hoi poloi are the marginalized tribe, not the NE,SS,SE,NC,SW or NW. I pity the SSners who have enjoyed the collective pity, or so it seems to the layman. Now that we've gotten our chance, hope we will not wake up oneday to remember how our common till was plundered on millitants at the expense of brilliant young chaps who have the potentials of bringing our region to a point of intellectual reckoning. Broda, I believe you are christian
If you are, sorry to burst you bubble, I think you should hear what the MASTER has to say about your condition:
Matt 5:31,32; Matt 19:7; Mark 10:4...
Let me say in advance that my submissions might be wrong, but any christian here with contrary opinion is welcome to expound it here
I know its very hard to let go at this stage but I'll advise you seek good (christian)counsel before you set out, and obviously you won't get it on NL.
If there is something I always pray for in a woman, it's that she respects the integrity and sanctity of the marriage institution..Marriage to me is a lifelasting covenant, not one to jump in and out of...it's not a perfect relationship even though it's meant to be life-long.Hence couples should always endeavour to sheathe their ego-swords in dealing with each other, there should be forbearance, full disclosure and regular communication.. Try to know the reason for this divorce in the first place, and if it's just a matter of ego-contests as is rife in most contemporary marriages, you might just be the one God will use to bring the divorcing couple back together.
PS: seeing I am not a relationship expert myself, I will still insist you seek good christian counsel, and talk to God about it
