holuwajobar: So Nollywood is going to take the blame A huge portion of the blame. Plays, books and movies dictate the aspirations and directions of a society. Ancient Roman plays are always about conquest and war, hence Rome ended up a huge empire always at war. Sci fi US movies (Hollywood), TV series and books of the 60s and seventies were about incredible scientific feats - space travel, wireless communication, powerful computers, artificial intelligence, human like robots, etc. Today all these aspirations has been met. Nigerian movies and stories from the 80s and 90s were about making money rituals, yahoo yahoo ( I go chop your money), run girls (prostitution) and poor girl marrying rich man. All these are the aspirations of an average Nigerian youth today. |

dominique: I hardly watch movies, has any Nollywood movie portrayed how a ritual killer lived happily ever after? Do they end well at the end of such movies? As far as I know, Nollywood movies tries to discourage people from going into ritual killings, maybe people choose not to watch till the end. Musical videos on the other hand pushes these youths to indulge in despicable things to make money. When youths vibe to music like; if you no get money hide your face or if you no get money wetin you gain etc, they're indirectly pressured into making this money by all means. Music industry has caused more damage to the youths mentality than Nollywood ever did it ever will. Does showing destructive effects of drugs discourage people from seeking the benefits? |

Did you intentionally ignore this part in the person comment or you just want to sound brilliant?? As long as Nollywood shows and proved that money rituals/human sacrifice works and the wealth can be enjoyed for sometimes, many people are ready to take their chances with the negative side effects. Every is told that all money rituals has series negative consequences, that doesn't discourage people from still attempting it. |

Ritual is not getting worse, it is getting filmed!!!
are u saying you all belioeved that Google sh.i.t story those boys were telling about learning how to behead someone for rituals online from google?
if u all are serious at all, demand to know the priest who instructed that gore event to happen and as well the BIG MAN who may have ordered a sacrifice be made for his/her selfish ambitions.
i still do not beleive those 4 fellas acted in isolation ! False. Ritual killings , particularly for wealth is getting worse. Even pastors have gotten in on the fad to increase church membership. Ritual murders then was for traditional/ cultural purposes for certain ceremonies. Nowadays ritual murders are done for money or to obtain political power. Those days it is rare to hear of missing/kidnapped children for money ritual purposes. Nowadays we hear children kidnapped for rituals on a regular basis. I agree with the OP that Nollywood (and Pentecostalism) plays a huge role in making people desperate to make quick money at all cost. |

KillamanJoe: Bro, don't allow any child to be vaccinated in your school o. Some kids react badly to vaccine and might develop fever or other side effects. What you can do is tell the parents to ensure they vaccinate their child either at home or at the hospital. I remember those days. The workers go house to house, discuss with the parents then vaccinate their children. Not one random women that decides to tear off her data page to prevent any communication whatsoever. Be careful ND remember you are liable if anything happens to those kids. Regardless of whether or not your intentions were good. Not some kids, most vaccines causes fever and other sides effects. You are advice to give children that react badly pain relievers and analgesics to ease ease the pain or fevers, which often last for a couple of days. This is more reason parents to must be informed before giving their children vaccines. Even though the sides effects are often mild, it is nothing compared to the sufferings of the actual disease. |

yomi007k: Please let us be logical in this situation.
The health worker is trying to prevent an outbreak of polio which if it happens will cause so much problems than we already have in this country.
I think the school should be closed down. I wonder why some people want to put the rest of humanity at risk for stupid reasons - religious or conspiracy theory. Vaccines had help humanity eliminate some deadly diseases like Small pox, chicken pox, yellow fever. If not for a very few backwards countries like Nigeria polio would have been eradicated from the surface of the earth. Though the health workers were going over board with their attempt to vaccinate the school children, I can understand their frustrations. They are not doing it for selfish or diabolical reasons, but are angry at people who refuse to have their children vaccinated. They don't possess the power to force vaccines on children, it the government that can mandate that. But it's very important to give children all the required vaccinations. As an example. One of my workers did not come to work yesterday because their 3 year baby has measles. It was so bad that the baby was hospitalized that's after trying all kinds of traditional remedies like 7 keys. When I inquired if the baby was fully vaccinated, he said no. I was really angry. I was angry that the negligent parents are putting not just the child at risk, but the whole society. |

Go and read The PDP report on 2023 presidential elections. The team chaired by gov of Bauchi said that only two zones should be assuaged: South East and North East. In APC, the hierarchy have finally had their way on consensus candidate. Tinubu camp have kicked against it, but there’s nothing they can do. Because if the East doesn’t vote in 2023, which can easily be achieved through IPOB sit-at-home, it will be a serious problem. The plan is to either give Amaechi the ticket or Ogbonnaya Onuh. Igbos will never vote a northerner. It will never happen in 2023. The worst is, no election. But just be assured that none of Tinubu or Osibanjo shall be on the ticket. I think Amaechi will be a compromise to the South East and Igbos. He is the only igbo I know the north will support, given the favour he has done to the north as transport minister and his popularity among northern governors during the time of Jonathan. Remember he won the chairmanship of the Governors forum with mainly northern votes against Jonathan's northern candidate. But then will the Igbos and south east support Amaechi. He is viewed as a traitor among core Igbos. |

yemmit90: Who is promoting quick and instant acquisition of wealth? Aliens or citizens?
I will try to be as brief as possible. There are 3 major factors that shapes humans life in their social settings.
1. Family
2. Peer groups
3. Society.
* FAMILY- if every parent preach or inculcate contentment, hardwork, humility and patience into the life of their offspring from inception, they will likely take this mentality to their peers.
* PEER GROUP - Since these children has already being made to believes in aforementioned attitudes, there is likelihood they will channel their productive energy toward more productive vices that will aid their development and that of society at large.
* SOCIETY - let me use this simple analogy, a man was born, he first know his mother, father, his immediately siblings, and other relatives. This is a foundation upon which society is built. Whatever a child acquired (good or bad) from his/her family and peer groups that he/she will bring to a larger society. Society in turn can modify its inhabitants if the foundation of its entire setup is faulty. For instance, people tend to behave well and abide by the rule of law if the society is guarantee them of better future, but that doesn't cancel the fact that society and its ruling apparatus emanated or start from the family settings. You are absolutely correct. But you failed to list those who shape the values of the parents. So number 1 should be religious spiritual or moral leaders. They determine and shape the values of the parents and thus the society. Priests and spiritual leaders have been shaping the values of societies from time immemorial. From ancient Sumaria to Babylon, from Ancient Egypt to Rome. Remember Christian was promoted and forced on the Roman Empire by Constantine for political reasons. When priests become greedy and preach crass materialism by encouraging parents to acquire wealth without minding the moral source, then the parents pass this same attitude to their children, who in turn pass this to their peers and society at large. In the old Testament Bible you will find priests and prophets hammering on the importance of maintaining the moral fabric of the society, Sometimes against powerful and hostile kings. |

The west we are trying copying their style of family units has lay down working social systems that improve or support human development.
The mind of every new born child is plain, null and void, it is what you write there that a child built upon to become an adult. This is where the role of good parenting is vital in development of a child.
All the social vices you see today, are the result of dysfunctional family system in Nigeria. How can we have a functional family system when what is promoted is quick or instant acquisition of wealth and not strong family values like love, honesty and integrity. |

So, if I understand you clearly, people should face the repercussions (punishment) of their actions (crime, sin ...) strictly under the law right? No cover-ups under any religious umbrella! Abi? Gbam! That's the way the universe works - action and reaction are always equal and opposite. We should all learn to face the consequences of our actions. If Sammy Okposu had that mind set, he would not have commited adultery or gone in raw without protection. Our conscience should be a valve that helps us filter good from evil. Certain religions destroys that filter and we unable to differentiate good from evil. That's why yahoo boys and ritualists go to do Thanksgiving for wealth acquired through causing others pains. Their conscience has been deadened. |

*reason *rational(size) *justify This is not an English class, and I wanted the convey a specific message the best way I could. What I meant was that some religions have specific reasons to justify their crimes. Like - Muslims can kill non believers (infidels) and obtain reward in heaven. Christians can give their life to Christ and all previous sins like murder, rape, etc are wiped clean. |

otipoju: The seeds where sown back in the early days Pentecostal churches. Before then the emphasis was on righteousness and being a good neighbour.
It started when your Pastors started to worship Mammon. Saying cars and houses are the immediate rewards of serving God.
It started with Nollywood always casting wealthy men as poor guys who did rituals and suddenly became rich.
It started when some woke musicians started singing " ibile" , blood money and celebrating fraudulent riches in their music video without any real resistance from the government or clergy.
All these helped shaped the mindset of Nigerians and social media has amplified everything. And evil became a acceptable in the society.
Now you cant eat or sleep over at your own brother's house with peace of mind. Even hotels ate not safe anymore.
Indeed righteousness exalts a nation and sin is a reproach to any nation. Gbam! I need not add more. Pentecostalism and Hollywood conspired to destroy the moral fabric of the society. Coincidentally, both started flourishing at the same time (early 80s). |

The last paragraph makes a moral sense that I can agree with. But your rationale for abandoning faith for faithlessness is what I cannot wrap around my head! Atheist have reasons to steal, but atheists don't have reasons to rationalize or justify their stealing. Atheists are aware they will face the consequences of their stealing especially if caught. |

He has been around benevolently, as a force for good, long enough to hit the ground running.
BAT, from the day he is sworn in, will gain the instant cooperation of the most influential leaders in Nigeria, Africa and the world immediately.
Tinubu's Presidency will be a project of benevolence very few, anywhere in the world, would be enemies of except of course IPOBians . If his health is sound then I am 100% behind BAT but will swing behind Osinbajo with equal passion if he is the APC candidate. Tinubu is a criminal and should never go near the sit of power. How did someone that was living in a rented house before he became governor become one of the richest man in Nigeria? He was not the only former governor of Lagos state, but he is by far the richest. How? By rigging the system to favour him. He was collecting 10% of all taxes generated in Lagos until fashola reduced it to 4 or 5%. Even 4% of Lagos revenue every month is humongous. He put all his family and aides in positions of power to obtain absolute power over Lagos State. Imagine what he will do if given federal power. I prefer Osibanjo by far. He seem to perform well when Buhari hands over to him while on medical break. |
Christianity Etc › Re: Is It Okay To Publicly Confess Your Past Evil?? by wirinet(m): 10:01am On Jan 30, 2022 |
MaxInDHouse: You just need to do so with action not words!
If you've stolen something from someone in the past (before you become a Christian) and you're feeling it may hinder you from entering God's Kingdom. All you need to do is go back to that person and pay back as a gift without making it public, you don't have to say a word about what happened in the past, you are paying what you stole secretly back in secret.
In the case where the person is dead then go on your knees and tell God what you intend to do but death has caused a breakup between you and the person. This is necessary because the person is dead and no more in need of worldly possessions. Then you can take what you supposed to give him/her to help paupers around you (without announcing it) because if it's announced then it can't pay off what you stole anymore, you've received the glory by making it public, remember you want to pay back what you stole in secret so you must pay back in secret! Matthew 6:2 This is the exact reason I left christianity (modern day Christianity that is) and embraced atheism. It promotes deceit, selfishness and crass materialism. It all about "what is in it for me", stick and carrot. You steal something from someone, you are more worried about going to enjoy in heaven than the pains you caused the person you stole from. That mean if there is no heaven, you will never regret stealing. Going back to pretend you are giving an item as gift to someone you stole from is deceitful. The person would be grateful to you and even feels he owes you, not knowing you stole from him. True repentance involve confessing your sins and begging for forgiveness from those you sinned. Modern day Christianity encourage you to sin, and then the only consequences is asking secretly for forgiveness and accepting Christ and your conscience is cleared once again to commit sin. That's against the universal spiritual law of Karma, that prescribes actual consequences for our actions. |

The fact that he handed over peacefully without attempting to bring down the whole country says a lot about the character of the man. The same could not be said for many other Presidents including the last US President. After saying that, Jonathan was a failure in other indices. He tolerated and even supported corruption - ie Abah Moro, Dieziani Allison, Stella Oduah, Dasuki, subsidy scam, etc. He was incompetent in security - Chibok girls, UN building Bombed, Sambisa Forest was no go area, Boko Haram controlled 14 local govt areas, etc. In terms of economic policies he did not fare better - he was using excess petrodollars to support the naira, no actual infrastructural development, (as done by all previous governments), no economic plan or agenda. His only obsession was re-election. Now, some distractionists or diversionists would ask "what about Buhari"? Well even though I think Buhari is failing on many fronts Jonathan failed, we can't start comparing until a few years after Buhari's term ends. When we talk of legacy, we must wait until the term ends. |
