Plastic items take centuries to degrade. Meanwhile, most plastic products are used only once by almost every single individual on earth, from straws to plastic water bottles, shopping bags, spoons, diapers, food wrappers, phones cases, and every other household items. Now, these one use plastics get dump most of the time in Rivers, which eventually ends up in the oceans. Some are dumped in landfills, but landfills quickly get filled up.

Imagine, what will happen eventually after a few decades of such everyday dumping of plastics into the oceans. It is estimated that by 2050, there will be more plastic than fish in our oceans, if something is not done to stop plastics getting into the oceans.
