It is Socialism bro. Crony capitalism is actually capitalism adulterated with socialism favouratism!!
Would you say Europe is practicing crony capitalism for trying to prevent Microsoft from stifling competition?
Read this;
Microsoft Slapped with Biggest Fine in EU History

The European Union on Wednesday levied the largest fine against any company in the bloc's history, ruling that Microsoft must pay a half billion euros for abusing its "near monopoly" status.

That is unlike capitalism it is vested interest. Using laws to confer advantages on individuals is a feature of socialism than of capitalism.
Sorry to say, but you do not understand the characteristics of strict capitalism. It is socialism that attempts to level wealth disparity by trying to discourage monopoly by a few wealthy individuals. Capitalism makes attempt at this by taxing the wealthy more and enacting strong anti trust laws. Even at that, capitalism is struggling to rein in the few powerful rich. How do you think Jeff Bezos was able to amass close to $200 billion in less than 2 decades. What about Facebook and Microsoft, European and US governments had been trying to rein them in and not kill competition by various fines and punishments, but to no avail.

People like Dangote use their huge pockets and size to stifle completion. It's a classic business strategy which even China employs to kill smaller businesses. DSTV employed it to kill local cable channels. Because of the economies of scale, no one in Nigeria, if not Africa can compete with Dangote in terms of Cement, Sugar and Salt. When cement became very expensive during the obasanjo regime and it made his government look bad, Obasanjo simply appealed to Dangote to reduce price and cement fell from N2,800 to N1,500.
I agree it is dangerous to allow one man control so much of the economy, but what can we do, when our national assembly is only interested in constituency projects, instead of enacting anti trust laws. By the time Dangote refinery is operational, we will depend solely on one man for our lives, ie energy, food and home (cement).

One of the many ways he makes his dubious money is through the fraudulent fuel subsidy regime the government is currently running. They will import let's say, 20 metric tons of fuel but would write 50 and collect subsidy money for 50 running into several millions of dollars.

Anyone who believes Nigeria is consuming 55 million litres of gasoline daily needs to have his head examined. They inflate the figures to collect subsidy money from the Federal Government. They work in consonance with those in NNPC, DPR, PPPRA, etc to defraud the government but sadly, the current government is dumb
I agree with you except the redded quote. You talk as if the subsidy regime started with this government, or that Otedola made his billions during this regime.
The subsidy scam is well entrenched in the Nigerian environment, and cannot be tackled unless we stop importation of petrol. The marketers/NNPC would simply blackmail the government and stop importation and selling of the product if they don't succumb to the marketers /NNPC. And that would cause civil unrest and possibly bring down the government.

May God bless Yar'adua even in the grave. I can still remember vividly how he was set to deal severely with those two fraudulent business men and their likes before he died. They quickly came back with full force immediately Goodluck took over power. President Yardua was the true man of integrity and most patriotic President by miles. Even those indicted or accused of corruption in his government, not yet proven o, he ordered them to resign e.g Health Minister, Adenike Grange.

Each time I tried to say something about how fraudulent Femi Otedola is, it is either I'm attacked or it got deleted entirely here
Otedola ke? That one na mafia.
I am even shocked someone is comparing Otedola with Dangote. No one knows how Otedola made his billions (that is even if he is worth billions).

I am also of the opinion that Yar'adua was the most sincere president we had. He tried to correct some wrongs.

Nigeria is the only place we see billionaires and millionaires without knowing their sources of wealth.

The sad part is that the people and society in general promote and encourage dubious sources of wealth. How many times have you heard testimony in churches of someone becoming a millionaire overnight without any explanation and every other person claiming the "blessing". How many people of dubious wealth are being given chieftaincy titles and awards up and down? Are those not inspiration for the up and coming generations?

The 80s and powder story is bullshit. Yes, agreed Dan Dangote got special privileges from subsequent governments, but my admiration for him is his ability to maximize these privileges and survive every government to grow his business. Believe me, he was not the only one that got special privileges from government, people like MKO Abiola (of blessed memory ), Chief Gabriel Igbenedion, Arthur Nzeribe, Hakeem Bello Osagie, Even the Vaswani brothers, got special privileges, but he was the most successful in his use of special privileges.

It's like saying that we should not respect Tony Elumelu for the special privileges he enjoyed in the Standard Trust Bank - UBA merger, which handed him the majority shares of UBA, when Hakeem Bello Osagie messed up when handed the same privilege.

I was just providing a rough outline of my interaction or knowledge of what I knew of Dangote to debunk the idea that he suddenly made his money through governments patronage. I did not go into details.

My going to Dangote's house with my friend had nothing to do with business. My friend who is hausa has some family connections to Dangote, so he went to see him on personal issues. I did not even get to see the man, he was called into the inner room for discussions. It was when we were driving home my friend told me what they discussed and that he brought in shiploads of rice and was looking for distributors.

I lived in Ikoyi and V/I for over 20 years, I have interacted one way or the other with some influential people.

You guys should even give kudos and respect to Dangote. He never at any time practiced polygamy even though he is a Muslim. He divorced the first wife before taking on to a second one. He never had any child outside wedlock. If it was others that have the amount of money Dangote has, they would plant their seed in every local government in Nigeria.
The same people hating on Dangote for marrying and divorcing 2 wives are the same people calling Atiku a messiah.

I am not one of those that believes he started from no where. He had his own businesses like so many others before government started giving him special favors. This is what ended up separating him from the rest. Not because he is smarter than the average businessman or any other manufactured attributes.
As a business man you take all favours you can get, it's left for the law and the government to regulate these "favours". What I am getting at is that Dangote was not the only one that was granted favours. If you are talking about waivers, so many other business men had been granted import duty waivers before Dangote was born, and people are being granted import duty waivers today

Cut down on waivers, exemptions in 2019, Customs urges FG

A former Minister of Finance, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, had said the Federal Government lost about N170.74bn to waivers and tax concessions granted to various governments and private businesses in different sectors of the economy between 2011 and 2013.
https://www.punchng.com/cut-down-on-waivers-exemptions-in-2019-customs-urges-fg/amp/
What I am say is that others businessmen with the same opportunity with Dangote got no where near Dangote.
For Dangote to dominate any sector he participate in says something about his business swaviness. He failed in pasta and juice business. He recognize that early and ran away from the business.

Dangote did not quickly become a behemoth, just say people only suddenly started nothing him. Around 1985, my mum wanted to supply coca cola with sugar. They told her Dangote supplies them all their sugar and that they would take from her if she can beat Dangote's price. Now, imagine been the supplier of coca cola for decades. And I am sure he was the sole supplier of sugar for Pepsi and other soft drink companies also. This was way before he went into packing sugar in small retail bags for the public.

The same thing happens in civilised countries. The government only attempts to reduced monopoly by enacting anti trust laws. Microsoft, Facebook and Amazon are always accused of monopoly and had been charged with numerous anti trust behaviours.

Dangote had been dominant in commodities since the early 80s and through all governments since then - civilian military, southerner or Northerner. He must be doing something right. He was not the only Nigerian that had favours, he was the only one that maximize and exploited the advantages. During the last administration, Okonjo iweala was issuing waivers up and down for Cars, Rice, etc. That did not make the benefactors instant billionaires.
Dangote is shrewd, brilliant and disciplined, that cannot be said for 99% of our businessmen.

Dangote that had been dominating the sugar industry since the early 80s. Dangote entered rice around the late 80s. My friend took me to his house in dolphins estate around 1987, telling me Dangote was looking for distributors for his newly imported consignment of rice. All these were before Obasanjo ever became President.

This part of the tale is confusing;
He seems to have started off as a dealer in powder before suddenly moving to America. As a young dealer, he had sports cars, lived in an expensive house and lots of cash. His import-export business seems to have revolved between Brazil and the United States.
However, his ostentatious lifestyle soon caught the eyes of the American authorities — he received information that there was an interception of his consignment — so he blamed it on his junior brother Sani Gote and fled back to Nigeria.
What kind of powder was Dangote dealing with, talcum powered or yam flour before he moved to the US? And did he continued to deal in powder in the US?

The story did not also elaborate on the kind of consignment intercepted by US authorities? Was it powder?
According to the story, Dangote is a fugitive in the US and his brother Sani Gote, who took the fall for him is in prison?

Omere, e do me like cinema. An Igbos man going to an itsekiri local government headquarters (actually my local government ) and spewing Biafra rubbish. Watin concern itsekiris with Biafra?

The report is as misleading as it is false. Looks like journalistic rascality. The report says;
Goveror Ifeanyi Okowa who spoke at the Niger Delta Peace and Security Summit held in Koko, and in the same sentence stated that;
The Delta State Governor who was represented by his Executive Assistant/Directorate of Orientation, Barr. Eugene. A. Uzum, stated

Who spoke? Governor Ifeanyi or Barr. Uzum?

Another annoying part of the statement is;
Nigeria will break up when South-South agrees to join Biafra.
Using when and not if mean the matter is a fait accompli, that the south south must join Biafra. That's the arrogance the south south tribes are always accusing the Igbos of.

The very last statement is stupid and meant only to evoke anger against northerners. Sounds like a statement from radio Biafra and not a government official;
Unless you are from a particular tribe in this country, you cannot secure a job. Unless you have one big man somewhere, you cannot get a job. Those who control the security apparatus are Hausas. A particular tribe runs the security apparatus
So, the government is to provide jobs for the over 200 million Nigerians. How many people can the government hire? No wonder states like Bayelsa and delta are simply civil service states, with little private businesses outside oil.
The irony in the same people shouting we control all the business is Nigeria is the same people we cannot get jobs in government.

So you are with me in saying the blacks there are screwed forever ?. Mandela missed the chance when the whole thing was still fresh ; give blacks a fair share of the land or put all of it under the state and make the whites workers not owners , just like they did in state owned companies like Sasol and the airline . Now that the blacks are skilled do you see those white devils sharing the goods ? Those entitled mofos would never do unless they are forced to , and when they get forced sanctions will still come , but if they don't force them then the generations of young educated blacks with commercial farming skills will still be farm workers like their ancestors . I don't see the whole thing working out because the younger blacks are agitating for land grabs and if care is not taken another zim will happen. Farm murders are already sky rocketing . There is no man that can watch generations of his children feeling like guests in his own home , it's only a matter of time before the Mandela mistakes haunt that country .

I thought you were not tribalistic , yet you decided to go on and generalise Igbos while conveniently painting Yorubas as some intellectuals lol. You are getting pathetic .
You are still shielding your ego (I suspect you are igbo), let go for a minute to understand my point. I never compared the actual intellect (IQ )of Yorubas to igbo. In fact in terms of actual intellectual, I think the two tribes are at par. What I am comparing is emotional reactions, and it's due to cultural differences. An igbo person is taught to say his or her mind and react instantly. A Yorubas person is taught to always conform to expectations and good optics even if they have evil intentions.

If you don't understand what I am trying to say, then leave it at that.

Dude. Let me just believe that u are asking an intellectual question and not what I am thinking. In any country resources are always used to the betterment of everyone in that country. So even if your future ND state contains some Fulani settlements that have long assimilated and have no oil then, yes, your oil will also be used to develop there too. Anything short of that then u are no longer a country. Just a bunch of feudal lords. And in like manner, if u insist they must be left out then in the future ur Ijaw communities without oil will be left underdeveloped. Guess how civil war starts. By a black man's selfishness and greed. Then it will be Ijaw on Ijaw war.
With the way u are even talking now, sharing formula is likely to be the first powder keg in an Ijaw-only country even.
Gbam. You are now getting the message I am trying to pass. Most people shouting 100% resource control have no idea of how the oil industry operates. Most nations that depends on oil are either in a state of civil war or ruled by absolute monarchy. The selfish interests of powerful nations always distabilize small weak but oil rich states.
Ordinary one community having crude and the next not having will cause serious problems, ie the border communities of Enugu, Anambra and kogi.

Yes the Nigerian situation is unfair and we cannot continue like this forever, but the solution is not creating a mini Nigerian again with one tribe cheating the oil bearing tribes instead of the present three.

Zimbabwe was crippled more by the sanctions than anything , so it is a bad example. And remember, the sanctions came about because the people became tired of being played and went on a rampage . Mandela had others to negotiate with but he arrogantly went on his own and came out with nothing but more poverty for his people. What is the use of having productive land that is a net exporter but the people living in that land are hungry and helpless? undecided.

Why are you bringing in tribalism to a perfectly intellectual debate ?. undecided.
And you think if the Mandela government forcefully seize white own lands, the West would not sanctions black South Africans .

Mandela did not negotiate alone, he had other high ranking ANC officials with him.
The people were living in poverty because the people were uneducated and unskilled. Even if the lands were given to the Blacks, they would not be able to farm the land commercially.

His people were already in poverty. He needed to create the conditions to empower the blacks educationally, economically and even psychologically. Healing decades of oppression and exploitation takes time, even black Americans have still not fully recovered from the effects of slavery.

Sorry for sounding tribal, but I am the least tribal person you will discuss with. It's my style, I use the brutal truth to elicit emotions and thus deeper reflections. My manager (is employed) is an ardent IPOB supporter. I also tell him my bitter truth igbos and IPOB. We argue and disagree, but slowly he sees my point of view.

The south east people are more emotional and calculative, Once an igbo man is offended he is ready to fight and curse without looking whether he can beat the person or not. Meanwhile, the Yoruba people are exactly the opposite. A Yoruba would never go into a fight he does not see a good chance of winning, some people mistake that for cowardice. Also Yorubas hardly show their true emotions. The fact that a Yoruba man prostrate for you and call you "oko Iya mi " (my mother's husband ) does not necessarily mean he like you. Yorubas are highly diplomatic.
