Blue3k:Zoning laws are under the state government and building codes are under principally the local governments. I am yet to see the zoning laws of lagos state. I know during the western regional administration, various sections of lagos was divided into zones, industrial zones (5 in number), agricultural zones, residential zones and commercial zones, since then nothing had been heard about zoning. As per building codes, these are there only on paper. You find huge churches in the middle of residential areas with no parking spaces. You find hotels on every residential street. There are bear parlours, night clubs and fun spots right in the middle of residential areas. The worst is buildings in the middle of drainage systems. This raid of strip club is not about building code, it's about religion, because I am sure their are many other building in the area not in compliance with the building code, churches, schools, joints. I am sure it is violating the religious sentiments of a very important person or some people in the area. |
Blue3k:Zoning laws, in Nigeria? Are you joking or you are serious? The only place I know where semblance of Zoning laws apply is old ikoyi. There you will not find churches or mosques in every street or shops or markets in every compound. offices have encroached though. |
poweredcom:You are telling me that the police has the rights to burst into your bedroom without a court order? If the club is not legally registered, there are means of enforcing the law without bursting and arresting innocent people. There are processes and agencies that ensure registration and operating conditions are met. Most churches in street corners are not registered, will you support it if police burst into an unregistered church and arrest everybody during Sunday worship? |
subtlemee:If they don't have shame, are you allowed to have shame on their behalf? No everybody gets to go or even want to go to school. Even the ones that goes to school loves to strip. Japan with 100% literacy level has more strippers than Nigeria. It's a free world and we are in a democracy. |
tactius:How does closing down a club relate to arresting people inside? Do you close a place by badging into the place and arresting people inside? What happens to a valid court order? Nigeria is lawless because the people support and promote lawlessness. Pray that one day the police does not close your business or even your home. |
Nwaotu10:Which OIL una get, and how many barrels (or should I say bottles). Someone that had never seen crude oil before shouting our OIL up and down. |
joinnow:Hypnosis can also achieve the same thing without any drug. |
chemgee:Oil plays a central role in our lives because we rely on a rent economy, and because we are more interested in consumerism rather than production. Although this habit was acquired during the our first interactive relationship with European merchants whereby, they take natural resources (and later slaves ) for consumer products like alcohol, cloths, mirrors, etc. We are yet to wean ourselves from that consumerism. The minute we look in instead of out and start producing what we need and rely less on imports, oil will start playing a less central role in our lives. Norway export just a bit less than Nigeria at about 1.5million barrels per day, but oil play relatively less significant role in their economy. Believe me, no amount of crude export can get us out of our economic doldrums. The problem we have is human rather than resources. After all the human resource is the most important of all resources. Hausa, Yoruba, igbo are all part of the Nigeria problem as their elites jostle for power, position and advantages. The Hausa has a grip on political power with Yoruba giving some challenge. Igbos who have lost out are playing the spoiler and prefer to split the baby in half (in fact so many parts) instead of letting hausas (and sometimes Yorubas) always having full custody of the baby. I am tired of always blaming the British for our present predicament. Agreed, the British made a lot of damage and set lots of booby traps, but we were not the only country that passed through similar experiences at the hands of the British. The US, India, Ghana, Palestine (now Israel ), and in fact over one third of the countries in world passed through the same British experiences. So our own situation is not unique. What made us unique is that we love to whine and wail (and pray) rather than make the effort and time to actually confront the problems. There is no Nigeria dream or even American dream, what we have is human dream. Every human being strive to survive and thrive and make a better life for himself and his family. That's why humans had been migrating since recorded history - to find a better place to thrive. |
Here are some key points of the willings commission set up before independence to look into grievances of minorities; EXCERPTS FROM A THE REPORT OF THE COMMISSION APPOINTED TO “ENQUIRE INTO THE FEARS OF MINORITIES AND THE MEANS OF ALLAYING THEM”, OTHERWISE KNOWN AS “THE WILLINK COMMISSION REPORT OF JULY 1958” “It was among the Ibos, formerly despised by the people of Calabar as source of slaves and as a backward people of the interior, now feared and disliked as energetic and educated, that the first political party formed.” “In the whole of this non-Ibo area there is present in varying degree some fear of being over-run, commercially and politically, by the Ibos….. if Ahoada and Port Harcourt, which are really Ibo, are considered with the solid centre of Ibo population, there are 54 seats for the Ibo area and 30 for COR (Calabar, Ogoja and Rivers) in (Eastern Regional House of Assembly).” “The question of land was repeatedly raised, it being resented by the Efiks and Ibibios that the Ibos should acquire land at all in their territory while the methods by which it was obtained were also questioned. There is no doubt that on the Ibo Plateau there is insufficient land for the people and the Ibos ate thrusting outwards where possible they acquire land and use it either for cultivation or building…..This is a matter which will require legislation sooner or later and it will be delicate to handle, but the economic process is in itself healthy and we had little sympathy with a witness who remarked that there is much undeveloped land in district and he was anxious that it should not fall into the hand of the Ibos….We believe that Governments in Nigeria should be careful not to try to protect minorities by introducing measures that would restrict development.” https://scannewsnigeria.com/news/willink-report-1958-the-following-are-excerpts-from-a-the-report-of-the-commission-appointed-to-enquire-into-the-fears-of-minorities-and-the-means-of-allaying-them-otherwise-known-a/ It can be seen that most of the allegations against the igbo were found to be unfounded (just as in present day Nigeria) by the commission, the feeling and perception of the minorities was still important enough to recommend the creation of a separate state for non igbos. |
chemgee:Forget oil. You guys seem obsessed with oil. Only the political elites benefits from oil, the ordinary Fukani, Hausa, Yoruba, Igbo, Tivi, etc, man does not benefit of care about oil. It was only recently (with the anmesty) programme that some ordinary Niger delta youths benefited anything from oil sales. The north cannot separate from Nigeria even if oil if found in the north because of; 1. Access to the sea. They will not want to be landlocked. 2. Climate Change; The desert is accelerating south, the lake Chad has dried out and their agricultural livelihood is threatened. The igbos shouting separation will be the worse adversely affected in terms of separation. They would need to FORCE the old eastern minorities to secede with them because if not; 1. They will be landlocked 2. The igbos have very little oil and most of the oil reside with minority tribes. 3. The igbos are also suffering serious environmental issues like erosion. 4. The core Igbo landmass is very tiny. Igbos building a country with eastern minorities will only make the new country a mini Nigeria with only one major ethnic group. The minorities will be in a continuous struggle to avoid Igbo domination. This was the situation in the East Pre and even post independence. |
The Nnamdi’s Case versus Federal Republic of Nigeria has been slated in a court in the United Kingdom on the 29th of April, 2019.The above quote is so absurd. Have you ever heard of a country being sued at all, not to talk of in another country? What did Kanu do to the brain of his supporters? This is not normal Maybe he is using very powerful jazz. If he had even said Federal Government of Nigeria, it would have made a tiny bit more sense, but then the British courts have no jurisdiction whatsoever to try cases concerning Nigeria or the government of Nigeria. So, if kanu does win his case against the Federal Republic of Nigeria, who will enforce the judgements? Metropolitan Police? |
gidgiddy:The is nothing same about the way Nigerians got independence and the way Ojukwu and Kanu sought to get "independence" (actually secession). Nigeria got independence by lobbying through the political process after years of negotiations. The independence leaders and lobbyist did not call British "Zoo" and all sorts of derogatory names. They did not insult the Queen, the prime minister or the governor general. They definitely did not run to another country while threatening the country with war. Everything was done cordially in accordance with extant local and international laws. These cannot be said for Ojukwu that launched a war on the country leading to death of millions on both sides or Kanu that purports to use Radio, social media and street protests to achieve to achieve so called independence. |
IGBO RELIGION BEFORE COLONIALIZATION In Pre Colonial Era in Nigeria, Igbo people believed in Odinani. It`s the common name for the traditional Igbo religious practices. The main characteristic of this religion is a monotheistic attribute. They believed in one God, but he also had a lot of spirits (Alusi). Igbo`s traditional beliefs in some contextual meaning can resemble Christian cosmology. They believed in one God called Chineke. He was a creator of everything on the Earth. At the same time, the world was divided into Human and Spirit world. When people died, they traveled to the spirit world. Each person has a guardian spirit which was called Chi. Chineke or Chukwu assigned these spirits to every person. The closest concept to Chi spirit is the guardian angel in Christianity. This spirit also follows the person into the world of spirits. Igbo people believed that they could speak with ancestors who lived in the spirit world. Alongside with Chukwu as a supreme spirit, there were other lesser spirits: - Anyanwu – it`s the sun god. Together with Amadioha, he controls the weather; - Amadioha – it`s the god of Sky. He was also a god of justice and lightening; - Ana or Anada (can also be called Ani or Ala)– it`s the Earth Goddess; - Ikenga – It`s the god of time and achievements. He had control over blacksmithing and farming; - Ekwensu – It`s the god of war that was mostly honoured amongst warriors. Read more: https://www.legit.ng/1113176-pre-colonial-nigeria-religion.html |
Gandollar:I supported Buhari because of his anti corruption persona. I supported his policies in his first dispensation (but did not support his methods ). He had zero tolerance to drug trafficking, crude theft and indiscipline. Nigeria's major problem apart from corruption is indiscipline. See what problems those issues buhari was trying to address in 1984 had come back to hunt us today. Our reputation around the world is in tatters due to drug trafficking and 419. Crude oil theft has greatly affected our revenue base apart from being responsible for insecurity and pollution in the Niger delta. |
Gandollar:My name should not feature at all in group as I am not from the south west. I am from an oil producing areas of the Niger delta. Yes I supported Buhari against Jonathan, because of monumental corruption that bedevilled his administration. Buhari of course disappointed most of us that supported, but I still think that he was the lesser of 2 evils as far as the last election was concern. Atiku reminds me too much of Zuma of South Africa. We need to start participating more in the political space, by choosing leaders who can carry out our aspirations, especially at the local levels. We need to stop fighting or wasting energy on irrelevant issues that cannot improve our current situation. We need to work and think harder to succeed despite monumental challenges, instead of always looking for excuses as to why we cannot succeed because of everyone else. |
Frankdoz29:DNA evidence proves otherwise. Igbo not Jews, reveals DNA report - https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.sunnewsonline.com/igbo-not-jews-reveals-dna-report/amp/ Nnamdi kanu is a Jewish adherents just like any other Biafra.Kanu was not born into the Jewish religion. His parents were never Jews. His brother Emmanuel who married earlier this year is not a jew, in fact no other member of kanu's family follows the Jewish religion. Even his wife Uchechi has never been known to associate with the Jewish religion. The Jewish thing is just a political gimmick to capture the imagination of his IPOB followers. Prior to amalgamation, the religion and belief is purely Jewish. The ones you see in such today are result of British deception and many are returning to our belief.False claim. No record of Jewish religion in igbo history. All records written by colonialist pre independence showed that like all other black African civilizations before colonialization and slavery, igbos were animists. Even Chinua Achebe in his things fall apart and no longer at ease showed igbos worshipped Amadiogha and other igbo deities. |
Frankdoz29:Jews as of religion or race? And when did igbos come to this discovery? Pre or post Kanu? So what about the millions of igbos that fill the churches every Sunday, are they now longer igbos? |
B1ak3:She has real serious issues, I think she needs counselling. She takes Kanu's issues so serious and personal, that one is forced to think she is uchechi or other relations of his. She also shows signs of schizophrenia as she shows obsession with a governor that has no effect whatsoever on her life, to the extent of adopting his name as moniker, but does not care about her governor that has direct impact on her life - most probably Okezie Ikpeazu (I suspect she is from Kanu's state). She reacts to everything and all things at the slightest or even no provocation at all. If she behaves like this in real life, I feel sorry for her husband. |
Frankdoz29:If they don't consider Nigeria's Christians as real Christians, which other Christians do they consider as real? Besides, 99.9% of igbos fall into the category of unreal Christians, how will these Jewish mosaic Christian Biafrans be able to relate to other igbos, before we even start talking of other Biafrans from other tribes? |
Frankdoz29:They are the real Christians, but celebrate passover rather than the death and rise of Christ? Never heard any thing concerning the worshipping and celebration of Jesus from them. |
Frankdoz29:Let me look for small trouble this morning; SUPREME CLERGY COUNCIL OF BIAFRA (SCCOB), an umbrella of Christain clergymen, is celebrating the Jewish passover, while making their requests to Chiukwu Okike Abiama. This is the height of confusion. |
xelly:Voltage is not the problem, simple transformer can achieve whatever voltage you need, it's power that is the problem. A 60Kwh capacity electric car has a range of about 300km on an expressway (approximate distance between Lagos and Benin ). At our best capacity of 6000Mw, each Nigerian family of say 6, shares (6,000,000,000/200,000,000)x6 = 180watts. That 180watts is available for an average of 10 hours (being generous). That's makes 1.8kwh. If an average Nigerian family gets only 1.8kwh/day, where will he get the 60Kwh needed to charge his car for daily needs per family car? This same family needs to charge phones and rechargeable lights, iron clothes, cook and boil water, watch TV and other entertainments, etc. |
Tapout:What people supporting Ben Bruce fail to answer is " WHERE WILL THE ENERGY TO CHARGE THE ELECTRIC CARS COME FROM? Electric cars can't charge themselves. The energy to charge the cars has to come from other sources of energy - Hydo, fossil or alternative energy sources. Nigeria with an estimated 10 - 12 million cars on Nigerian roads and with Nigeria generating a measly 4000 - 6000Mw, which is not enough to power lagos alone. Where will the electricity to charge the cars come from? |
ManirBK:I am highly adverse to all forms of corruption, that was why I campaigned vigorously against Jonathan, I am not a sentimental person at all. Having said that, if N50 million is all they can find undeclared in Onnohen's accounts, then Onnoghen is a saint by Nigerian standards. Ordinary local government chairmen has far more than that in their accounts. Most judges have billions in their accounts - both declared and undeclared. Agreed Onnoghen engaged in some unethical practices, like receiving gifts from lawyers he have or had cases with. Those should be ethical and professional issues to be handled by NJC. We have had outright evidence of graft and corruption in this dispensation, but because the person involved was either close to the president, from the presidents section of the country or from the presidents party nothing was done. Till today, nothing was done concerning Babachir Lawal, Malami or the Maina fiasco. |
sterlingD:How will the charging ports be charged themselves? |
festacman:Abeg helep he ask twitter senator watin we go take charge the car? Maybe him go buy petrol to charge generator to charge electric car before he can drive out. Some people (especially women) already on 5kva generator to charge phones. |
ManirBK:But can he can do this great job without fear if the person involved was a northerner? |
frowland:Basic economics of demand and supply. At 18,000 minimum wage, Nigeria imports about $40 billion worth of goods. If salaries is increased by 50%, demand for imported items is expected to increase (as there are no local industries to bridge the expected increase in demand), thereby leading to increase in demand for dollars to facilitate the imports. There will be upward pressure on the naira. The external reserve is 45B USD strong so there is only one way the naira will go and its downwards.External reserve is savings for a rainy day or used in emergencies when crude prices crash. It is not used for day to day transactions. A $45 billion can only sustain exports for a couple of months, depending on how bad the oil price crash is. The best way to defend the naira is either to restrict imports or increase local production. Regarding pump price, well I don't have much information on that but Nigeria is one of the countries that sell fuel far cheaper than even US, Saudi, IRaq, Oman, Qatar etc etc and with much much population that those arab countries. So do the maths. The country is strained.Fuel is expensive in most western nations due to high taxes. They put high taxes on fuel to encourage people use public transportation. Furthermore, high fuel prices will have devastating effects on the socio economic life of Nigerians. There is no subsidy on diesel and I have been using it for 3 years now @220/ltr. Both at home and office and no scarcity.Petrol cannot be compared to diesel. The demand for petrol is way more than that of diesel and besides, lots of our diesel is produced locally (though illegally) in the Niger delta. Fix power sector and half of the population won't care if pump price is 1k/ltr.Better said than done. We have been trying to fix the power sector for the last 50 years with little progress. |
frowland:Still the same problem of curing the symptoms and feeding the disease. The over 50% increase in salary will be wiped out in less than a year due to almighty inflation. More money in people's pockets without a corresponding increase in productivity means more money chasing the same goods and services. We will bridge that increase in demand by increasing importation. Meaning more nairn chasing dollars, leading to fall in naira value, leading to increase in prices. Local products and services too will not be left behind and they will increase prices also. So by this time next year; Petrol will be close to N180/litre Naira will be N450 in the blackmarket Okada will be N100 minimum per drop. Sliced bread will be N350 minimum Electric rates will be N35/kwh Pepsi will be N150 for small PET bottle. House rent will increase by 30% Etc. Sorry, I forgot to add that apart from maybe LAGOS State, no other state in the federation will pay 30,000, except the FG is ready to perpetually bail out the states. |
Gandollaar:Why are your people so skilled on insults? I hear you guys have no respect for anything or anyone. You insults parents, uncles and even aged people. It is not possible for you to have a decent discussion without insults. Any you say you are a mother, I wonder what you are teaching your children. A decent man or woman don't do private romantic video and leave it on his phone. Been married for over 15 years, love my wife to death, have children in the house, would never make a "romantic" video and leave same on my phone. It is IRRESPONSIBLE. The phone could get stolen. No matter how many times I change my password, my children always open my phone. If you are in the habit of making "romantic" videos with your husband and storing same on your phone, someday, we will also watch you on xvideos. The extent to which you guys are ready to go to support Kanu, I hope he does not do a Jim Jones on you guys. |
Gandollaar:I now understand why people blow themselves up on the orders of Al-Baghdadi or why Trump said even if he shoot someone on 5th street in broad daylight light, he will not lose any followers. Girls, what kanu did is morally reprehensible especially by African standards. People get arrested on the streets for "indecent dressing". It is a taboo in many cultures including igbo culture for any other man to see your wife's unclothedness or even semi - unclothedness. You don't display sex in public. Your parents never did it. In fact our parents never had sex or even kissed in front of children. I am yet to see an IPOB supporter duplicate what kanu did. Non had shown their wives in just pant and bra staring at the camera. Non had put her face into the crouch area of their husband to show love and affection. |
bigpicture001:China's strength is not its population, it's in its ability manage and control it's population. If China had not started managing it's population from 1970s, it would never have developed. It's never an APC vs PDP issue. You guys just can't see beyond APC vs PDP. The only government that saw population as a problem and made a fibble attempt at addressing it was Babangida with his 1 woman 4 child policy. There were no PDP and APC then. Canada is undepopulated given its size and rescources. Canada the second largest country in the world in terms of land mass has a population of least than 40 million. That's about the population of the South East. Canada definitely needs to increase its population. |
