the problem is Nigeria is struggling now, we must try something new.
Nigeria is struggling because of visionless and incompetent leadership and docile followership.

You don't discarded a system and start a new one when it's not working properly, you identify the faults and make corrections. Over time the system will get better.

You need to produce competitively to enable you trade (freely) with others, else you will kill the very production base you are trying to help.

I agree totally with you. Nigeria must continue following retarded policies that has kept her languishing in third world poverty. Why must Nigeria sign a free trade agreement that will bring about creative destruction and force it's companies to be competitive and focus on where it has comparative advantage? Why,why, why?

What has crude oil or our commodities ever done for the country sef?
How will free trade agreement bring about creative destruction and force it's companies to be competitive? Also state areas where Nigeria has comparative advantage in Africa?

When countries like the US is weary of free trade agreements, you want Nigeria with poor infrastructure, poor human capital development, high levels of corruption to enter headlong?

Africa should deal with issues such as infrastructure decay and human capacity so that it can increase it's production base before talking about trade liberalisation so as not to maintain the current level of unemployment with insecurity that comes along with.
I wonder why this basic fact is difficult to understand. Every country needs to produce before you can trade , you need to solve the issue of infrastructure and human capital development before you can produce.
Nigeria at present have huge market due to its population, but very little to trade with outside crude. We have absolutely little control on oil trading which is controlled by OPEC. So what is the benefit of entering a free trade agreement?

Oga, cold raw liquid 8.8billion is a big deal for any Nigerian commercial bank to cough out and pay. Forget all the quarterly results and annual revenue turn over being flaunted in their books.
No commercial bank will want to pay 8.8billion in liquid cash to any debtor. That is why since 27 February 2019 that this ruling was given at the supreme court, gtb has not done the needful.
Another thing is that, once they try it (that is paying raw 8.8bilion) all their other debtors will come for their own. It will simply set a bad precedence.
My brother, that's the absolute truth. It seems all the quarterly results and annual revenue turn over being flaunted in their books, are only in the books and not in their vaults.
If not so, they should not have had problems paying N2 billion naira, not to talk of 8 billion naira.

CBN needs to perform a stress test on GTB to see if it is actually liquid.

GTB management should resign due to the foolish way they handled the Innoson saga.

You are being economical with the truth (idid not say you are lying). The south west never complained about the South West being nowhere to be found in the top 4 offices (as you called it). The legislative positions does not necessarily rest on the executive or even one party (as shown by Saraki and Ekweremmadu). What the south west complained about during Jonathan's regime was marginalisation in terms of EXECUTIVE appointments.

Why will the south west reject the speakership position (in which they actually have power to affect) and then complain again that PDP or Jonathan denied them number 3 or 4 positions ( which are legislative positions). It does not make sense.

That is a right question, Chinese companies will never be South African companies.
A Chinese company registered and produces in South Africa is a south African company.

PZ that is registered and manufactures in Nigeria is a Nigerian company.

DUFIL Prima Foods Plc, makers of indomie noodles is a Nigerian company and is qualified for free trade (duty exemption ) in a free trade agreement.

If free trade is that beneficial to all countries, what did the US pull out of TPP? Why is the UK pulling out of the EU?

The main fear with the African Free Trade idea is that China can set up a mega production company in one country and dominate the whole region.

I'm not aware of the price so i cant really speak on that. I only read about a plan to import seedlings of a highly nutritious and weather resistant grass to be planted and grown in Nigeria, I dont have any other details. I've only commented on this issue because I was just irked at the bizarre level of misinformation (both intentionally and unintentional) that has trailed and that still trails the announcement of that plan. A lot of people amusingly assumed the idea was to go to Brazil and import grass to feed cows in Nigeria; weird thing is that even those who should know better are actually the ones promoting the misinformation.
That's why u get angry at what Reno Omokri is doing, he sits in the US and attempts to cause disaffection and civil unrest in Nigeria by peddling misinformation and lies, and there are people who are ready to believe every stupid thing he says.
That some educated people can believe that somebody can import grass from Brazil just to feed cows is beyond belief. Malaysia imported Nigeria's palm kernel (seeds) and today they are the biggest exporter of palm oil and palm products. Nigeria imported rice (seedlings ) and today our rice production has greatly improved in terms of quality and quantity.

Furthermore, the definition of collusion is legally undefined.

The summery did not even exonerate Trump.
This is what Barr wrote;
" there isn't enough evidence to conclude that the Trump campaign colluded with the Russian government in order to interfere with the 2016 election"

This is subject to many different interpretations.
Here are 4 different interpretations of Barr's conclusion depending on who is doing the interpretating;

There was no collusion.

There was collusion, but Mueller couldn't find enough evidence to meet a legal burden of proof.

There was collusion, but not with the Russian government.

There was collusion with the Russian government, but not to interfere with the 2016 election.

You misunderstand economics.

Lagos would collapse without it's Igbo traders stimulating it's economy.
You that understand economics, please explain how traders are responsible for stimulating the economy of Lagos in these modern times.

First let's ask how many people here patronise Igbo traders daily.

Why not examine the lagos economy and estimate what percentage is contributed by Igbo traders.

I for example buy most of my gadgets and electronics online. Maybe people buying Tokunbo items patronise Igbo traders, but those buying new items buy online.

My wife buys most of her foodstuffs from hausa traders at Sabo market.

Most betting and lotto companies in Lagos are owned and operated by yorubas. Betting and lotto contribute a huge percentage to lagos revenue.

Manufacturing in Lagos is dominated by Chinese, Indian and other foreign companies, with some indigenous companies ie Dangote, honeywell. A few Igbo companies are into drug manufacturing.

European Union is not a political union but an economic union just like ECOWAS or African Union. Political unions are more difficult to break than economic unions.

Where they differ is that while Britain is a sovereign nation, Biafra isn't.

The lesson Brexit should teach Nigerians is that everybody has the right to decide where they want to be. "One Nigeria" is nothing but "unity by force"
No lessons whatsoever as comparing an economic union with a political union is like comparing ice with steam.

Once a political unit is formed, it takes great efforts and upheavals (most times war) to break. Even the US fought a civil war to remain united. It will be near impossible for any of the 13 original states that formed the United States or any of the 37 that joined since to just decide to secede, because "everyone has the right to secede"

at least they have a choice to decide their future. Thats the one important point i am trying to make in this discussion. a lot can only be achieved with sincere and visionary leaders and i agree without mincing words. i also agree that in as much as the constitution favors the north, a lot can be achieved with visionary leaders but the constitution is a major setback and impediment. take for example my state Anambra state, our IGR is very low and funds are scarce major roads are not constructed using a company like Julius berger whose work probably is the best in Nigeria. no matter how hard you try to make things better, there is little you can do because you do not control your resources which enables you to create direct jobs and automatically creates in direct jobs too. it needs a large population to increase IGR through tax and etc. i agree that the SS and SE do not have visionary leaders but i equally would say that the SW do not have visionary leaders too. unless you have your own personal definition of who a visionary leader is. for example, Awolowo and Zik are clear examples of who a man with a vision is, Sam Mbakwe is one who had vision for his state and people even Jakande. these men were selfless and knew the direction the wanted to take their people to and they had tremendous impact in the lives of their people. These leadership problem in Nigeria cuts across all regions, tribe and ethnic group. what the SW has is a charismatic leader. but thats a discussion for another day. for me the constitution needs to be changed as soon as possible. it impedes development. no matter how visionary you would even be. if Awolowo was restricted with this kind of constitution i doubt if he would have made a massive impact in the lives of the yorubas in education infrastructural facilities and the position he wanted the Yorubas to occupy in the scheme of things in Nigeria.
I do not have time to respond to this your post in depth, but I will just give you an outline.

Why is the IGR of Anambra so low, despite receiving billions of naira every month from Abuja? What will happen if the billions stop coming from Abuja?

What is the strategy and vision of your governer or political elites to ameliorate the problem? What efforts have they made and how has the FG sabotaged them?

If I am made the governor of a state, I would never use Julius Berger to build infrastructure, I would use a consortium of indigenous local contracting firms, COREN registered. I would break up the whole project into segments and contract each segment to different firms according to competence. I would design a work and payment schedule with all contractors with a caveat that once schedule and payment terms had been agreed upon, any delay on the part of any contractor would be penalised.
Contracting jobs to Julius Berger is about 5 to 10 times the real cost of projects, it leads to capital flight, job losses, and loss of skill acquisition by the locals.
Are you telling me that no contractor in Anambra state can do as good a job as Julius Berger or close to it?

The only Visionary leader, I think Nigeria had was Awolowo. Ogbemudia tried, Tara Balewa and Ahmasu Bello had a vision of dominating Nigeria through dominating the military. Zik had no vision for his people and Nigeria whatsoever, outside making himself Zik of Nigeria and Zik of Africa.

Register a Transmission company? I am sure you have no idea of energy generation and distribution. Transmission is the most complex and expensive in the three sectors of electricity. Where will a private company get the lands to build power pylons and substations across a state, not to talk of across a country. Each pylon must have at least 50meters allowance on either side that no one can built on, across the whole country.

yeah. because Britain are a group of countries who AGREED to come together to be ONE. Nigeria was just a business venture. that is why you would always have agitations. me personally do not think a people should be forced to patriotism through the barrel of a gun. it has to be mutual. when we speak about these ills its like we dont like progress. like the issue of IPP that you discussed. in a country ,do you need to start exploring the loop holes just because you want the best for your people? the constitution is not a peoples constitution and at best a written document that serves the general interest of the caliphate and the British.
You just described 95% of the world countries. Britain did not just AGREE to come together to become one, they went through lots of political upheavals including centuries of wars before they eventually agreed to be one, and that agreement is tenuous at best. Scotland and Northern Ireland might still decide to leave, based on the type of Brexit the government gets.

Once a country is forged together, it is extremely difficult to break, and the fall out of the breakage if often painful (civil wars, power tussles, economic issues, etc), theses might take decades, sometimes centuries to resolve.

As I said, I agree the constitution is faulty. Yes it favours the north. My argument is that within the framework of this faulty constitution, a lot can be achieved and progress made, with right visionary and sincere leaders.
Most of the problems besetting the states or regions is not due to the faulty constitution, but due to greed, visionlessness and incompetence of the ruling class on all levels.
The Niger Delta and the South East cannot boast of one, just one outstanding visionary leader.
The north also has the same problem, that's why a Buhari is worshiped as the best the north can offer.

for the first suggestion, thought about it. but the second part can you tell me how can actually create oil companies like that? are there no laws against it?
To register an oil company is not that difficult. All you need to do is to go to CAC and register a company and then operate like a regular business.
A better option is to register and investment company and then partner with foreign companies with expertise in the oil industry or any other interested industries to operate and run the business. Lagos States has Ibile Holdings - http://ibileholdings.com/about-us/ . Awolowo did wonders with Odua Investments, they dominated the cocoa industry. Odua Investments at a time was one of the biggest conglomerates in West Africa.

There are no Laws against incorporating a company and partnering with foreign companies to do business in Nigeria. At the start of this democracy in 1999, many state governments partnered with Econet Wireless to bring GSM to Nigeria and their states, like Lagos and Delta, but greed took over the governors and they sold the shares and pocketed the money.

You do not realize the depth of the problem : the FG is like a dog in a manger, it won't eat hay and won't permit horses to.
Many states have tried to take control of their resources but have been blocked by the FG.
Edo state bid for electricity distribution in 2014 and was rebuffed. Akwa ibom, Rivers and other states have bid for oil licences without result. Cross river built Tinapa and it's full utilization was blocked by Abuja. The south south states want their ports developed but the FG connives with Lagos to maintain a monopoly in apapa. The list goes on.
How come Lagos States is currently generating about 59Mw of electricity for its domestic use through the IPP scheme.

Many, including Lagos State government have been embarking on independent power projects, and are now relying on power generated from their power installations for their domestic use. The Independent Power Projects (IPPs) of Lagos State generates 59MW of electricity into the state power grid.
https://www.google.com/amp/s/guardian.ng/business-services/firms-state-dump-national-grid-for-independent-power-supply/amp
An Independent Power Project need not pass through the national grid.

On Akwa Ibom and Rivers States bidding for oil license, I Cound not find any information on it online, please give us links to confirm that they bid for oil licences and why it was refused.

On Tinapa, I feel that it was an ill conceived and executed project, better put a white elephant project. A free trade zone where there is no trade and a tourist resort for foreigners at a time the Niger Delta is unsafe to foreigners.

me too. but what can one do? we are stuck with these people for a while. if we get Governors who are futuristic and with a defined plan, all things being equal, we can beat the system that was designed to make us fail.
That's what I have been telling the "Nigeria held us back" crew. If you get visionary and sincere leaders, no system can hold them back, they would find a way around all obstacles.
For example, to beat the states must "feed the national grid" law, don't pass through the national grid, don't use the transmission lines. Just create clusters - industrial, commercial or social clusters and the generate power locally to those clusters. Some private companies are doing it.

To beat the 13% derivation law, create oil companies and bid and obtain oil licences in your state. If the state own or partnered companies drill it's own oil, it will receive 40% share of crude sales along with 13% derivation.

As I also say, it is only a bad workmen that quarrels with his tools, good workmen perform wonders with bad tools.

by soon' you mean at least 2decades from now right,if not i disagree ,right now electric motor is a huge success in the us and china,it wont take long before it spreads to other parts of the world if you consistent with western policies ,you must know that huge steps are being taken every actualize a true green earth ... it wont take long my brother, it will happen in this generation
That's why I said the issue of fossil fuel is complex. It depends mainly on the reserve of it still left under the earth, which I must confess, is a big unknown. Countries are exploring and finding new oil and gas fields, there are huge reserves in the Arctic starting from Alaska, the oil at the bottom of the oceans is largely unknown and untapped, even Nigeria has not began oil explorations in its deep sea. Then do not forget fracking that becomes viable when crude gets to the $70s to the barrel.

Fossil fuel is the cheapest form of energy and until it runs out or low, it would beat alternative source of energy in terms of cost and convenience.

Electric cars won't necessarily reduce the demand for fossil fuel. The batteries of the electric cars has to get its energy from somewhere - either alternative energy sources or fossil fuels.

Another big problem is the increasing demand for energy due to population and industrial growth. The energy demand of the world would likely double over the next 40 or so years to drive homes, businesses and industries. Where do you expect the increase in demand to come from?

One quick fix but tricky solution to our increasing energy demand is nuclear. Nuclear energy has the capacity to provide huge supply of energy to nations and the world, but then nuclear has its own political and environmental concerns and problems.

I have been a member of an online energy group for over 10 years, and we have had extensive debates on these issues. It is a much more complex issue than I have even elaborated here.
