babasolution:Even the subsidy on fuel is suspect, as we operate a crude oil swap deal, in which we give foreign refineries crude oil and they give us petrol, diesel and kerosene in return. |
nairalanda1:You still don't get it 60 years after colonisation ended. The educational system was designed to make us better Christians first, then better British subjects, then better administrators for colonial interests. That's why our "scientists" are better administrators that technologists/inventors. That's why our scientists can never win a Nobel price in the sciences, but win Nobel prices in English Literature. |
nairalanda1:Most nigerians also believe that the people (workers) should set the price of labour (wages) also, but what do we have? Government setting a salary structure, a structure that is at variance with prices of commodities - ie petrol, electricity, food, medicine, etc. Most Nigerians also believe that the natural resources of the country should be controlled by the owners instead of a central government who appropriate all to itself and distributed as it deems fit. It seems you fo not understand the meaning of socialism and capitalism. It has to do more with who control of the countries resources between the prople and the government, and the distribution of such resources. |
nairalanda1:I went to Catholic primary and secondary schools, so my opinions are not based on hearsay. My primary school taught us to be better catholics. I used to serve mass in the morning before class every school day. |
nairalanda1:What do you mean Nigerian preferring socialism? Which socialist based party has won elections in Nigeria after UPN? All current parties in Nigeria are ultra Conservative parties. How many social services do Nigerians enjoy compared to the rest of the world, Even the bastion of capitalism- The US enjoy more social services than Nigerians. |
JagabanB:The best schools started by missionaries and colonialists were to teach us to be better Christians and subjects and not to teach us to be better scientists, technologists or better critical thinkers. |
Willed042:Exactly! Government should have limited role in the moral life of our children and families in general. That role is best reserved for families and religious organisations which the families adhere to technology. Internet and social media in specific is a double edge sword, just like any other technology, it could be employed for both good and bad. Restricting children from accessing it could put them at disadvantage with children from other parts of the world, ie China, Japan and Europe. US children learning to navigate the Internet at 15 would put then at a great disadvantage when children of same age in Japan from Haa been using it for educational purposes since the age of 10. Some 15 year old are already coding and building apps. The US (native citizen) are already behind most advanced countries in terms of science, maths and other critical subjects, this would futher |
Anambra1stSonTV:It was because the section of the road was asphalted yesterday that made the drainage system to fail? It was the road that was carrying more rainwater than the drains. Go to North and see how road drainage are supposed to be designed and built. With the poorly designed drainage, the road will fail before the end of just one rainy season. Was it because the road was asphalted yesterday that I could not sight just one granite, either in the asphalt itself or in the road substructure and superstructure? The rain falling after the road was freshly laid was a blessing, it exposed the shoddy job being carried out by the contractor.
|
Anambra1stSonTV:Untenable excuse. You think the people you are talking to are illiterates. Many here are civil engineers, architects and builders. This road was poorly designed and poorly executed with substandard materials for that matter. From the video we could see that the drainage system was poorly designed, the road was carrying more water than the drains itself. The depth of the surface finish/tar was very thin. Also from the look of things, it seems the was little or no concrete employed in the structural part of the road. There was little or no cement or granite seen. The substrate that was supposed to support the road nko? No gravel is also seen there. It seems the contractor just compacted the laterite surface, laid in some sand mixed with little cement and covered it with a thin layer of tar. Let's even see the road design and cost to know the specifications. |
GlobeTrotter2:No you are not. Its a combination of placebo effect and hypnotism. Hypnotism by putting you mind and subconcious in a suggestive mode, where you mind can be persuaded to do anything. Placebo whereby your mind and body react to expected expectations. This is why in clinical trials of medicine a control test with fake medicine is given to another group to rule out placebo effect. Now are you saying a baby that was born with kidney disease was healed by faith? |

musicwriter:That was because Europe went through an age of enlightenment where knowledge took over from faith and belief. In most third world countries belief is promoted above knowledge. Until we place acquisition of knowledge above belief, we will continue to retrogress until we go get back into dark ages or we are completely colonised. By the way, your site www.adasbakes.com isn't working. Seems you make cakes? Just curious. It's wife's site. My wife is a Baker. I have not had time to maintain it. I have had to increase my hustle 5 times just to make ends meet. |
musicwriter:I don't think religion can ever die. Religion thrives on ignorance and/or poverty. And the religious, political and business elites make sure they keep populace poor, ignorant and helpless. Infact religion will continue to grow within poor impoverished countries of the world. |
musicwriter:The Jesus character was a pacifist. All his actions and preaching were pacifist in nature except where he was said to have beaten people selling in the temple. I believe that narrative was added by be Catholic authorities. It makes no sense for Jesus to go to a Jewish temple he was not the chief rabbi and start fighting people selling religious ornaments. His pacifist doctrines includes; Turning the other cheek Stopping the lynching of a woman accused of adultery Entering the house and eating with gentiles Eating together on the same table with his followers and disciples. (Abomination in todays Christianity) Commanding his disciples not to fight the authorities upon his arrest. Preaching that give what belongs to caesar unto Caesar and God unto God. Forgive all those who sins against you against the prevailing "an eye for an eye". |
musicwriter:I agree with most of what you said. There were many cult leaders promoting different philosophies and agendas in first century Palestine under Roman occupation. Rome was jittery that any of them could become militant and thus start an uprising/Insurrection. That was why they were very hard and brutal on these cult groups, so much so that many went underground. As I said the Jesus group was very popular among the masses due to his socialist and Liberal philosophies. It promoted communal living, and non discrimination between rich and poor, between Jews and gentiles, even between saints and sinners. Where it had issues with some of its followers was it non violent resistance to Rome and local authorities. You must admit that Christianity as promoted and propagated by Rome was indeed a perfect marketing campaign. In fact its the most successful marketing campaign in the history of the world. They took a popular cult leader, infuse him with characteristics of earlier popular cult figures, wrote stories about him in a book and link these stories to earlier Jewish religious text, added miracles that would appeal to the pains and problems of the masses and then aggressively promoted the newly formed religion, sometimes forcefully. |
musicwriter:Yes, there could not have been a person called Jesus in first century Palestine, (that's why I laugh when modern day Christians say the pronunciation of the word Jesus has mystical and magical powers), but the person depicted by Jesus (later deified) must have existed. He was most likely a cult leader who believed in pacifist, socialist philosophies. He promoted non violent confrontation in a very violent period in isreal, he promoted socialism (sharing of common wealth) in an ultra capitalist society. He promoted non discrimination in a very bigoted, racist and religious environment. Of course that was why he was unpopular within the political, religious and traditional elites of the day and hugely popular within the poor, helpless and exploited masses. Even today Jesus and his philosophies would be unpopular within the elites and they would have killed him over again. |
Sunday is the day dedicated to the sun or succinctly put the son God. The rest are dedicated to other Nordic/Scandinavian Gods or celestial bodies, ie Moon(monday), Wednesday (Woden), Thursday (Thor), etc. Sunday was decreed by Constantine I, Rome's first Christian Emperor, to be observed as a day of rest throughout the Roman Empire On 7 March 321. As a result the Christians started observing Sabbath on Sundays instead of Saturdays (the traditional jewish sabbath). The Jews were stubborn and refused to observe Sabbath on Sunday, this prompted the Council of Laodicea in AD 363 to issue Canon 29 to prohibit observance of the Jewish Sabbath (Saturday), and encouraged Christians to work on Saturday and rest on the Lord's Day (Sunday). To me Sunday is a day I unwind after a hard 6 day work week. I stay at home, sleep, watch TV,and eat a special meal. |
Odidigboigbo:Exactly, this is not a legal or constitutional matter. The constitution expressly stated executive and legislative powers. The legislative has no power to appoint anybody. |
vanitybutiwanti:The work of the legislature is to make laws and not make appointments into executive offices. How can the legislature ge the one to appoint and confirm at the same time appointments into an executive position? The Chairman and members of the Commission shall be appointed by the Rivers State House of Assembly acting on the advice and recommendation of the House Committee of Selectionsmall time the Rivers State House of Assembly will be the body making, presenting and approving the State's budget. |
bluecircle470:How is FCT minister different from any other minister? A minister is simply an appointee of the president and serves at the discretion of the president. |
id4sho:Exactly. Who is the chief security officer of Abuja, and who should be spending security votes of Abuja? |
TruthHurts1:Comparing orange to apples. I am talking about countries and societies and you are talking about individuals. You are even ignorantly agreeing with me that the elites (political, business and religious elites) deliberately impoverish and exploit the masses for their own selfish material gains. So of course the poverty stricken Muslim North would have more billionaire and millionaires than wealthy Norway, Germany and Switzerland. Of course the Christians south more Wigwes, Elumelus Emeka offors and Oyedepos, more than Japan, France and even Israel.

Racoon:Their population is tiny while their oil resources are huge, so they (the ruling elites) are able to give their people just enough to keep them from asking questions on how they use the country's wealth to live exorbitant lifestyles. If you look at the diagram below, you will see that countries on the left with high poverty rate also qualify as the most religious, with Nigeria carrying the gold medal of people having the highest number of poor people in the world. So this directly correlate to having the highest number of religious people on earth. The rich countries on the right with the least poverty rate also have the least religious people
|
Islam and its twin brother Christianity thrives in poverty. They make people accept their poverty which is engineered by the ruling and business elites, with hope of a better tomorrow or in the afterlife, while at the same time collecting the little they have. |
Cantonese:"Moral values" is a young man at his prime dying under mysterious circumstances, and some people are insulting the father who demands answers as to the cause of death of his son. Up till now now autopsy report, no coroner report, no investigative report. Ordinary DNA report that the father of the deceased is asking for, some guys are making it look as a big deal. |
Cantonese:Which possibilities are you looking at? Are you looking at the possibilities surrounding mohbad's death? Are you looking at the possibilities of a little boy who will have the question of his paternity hanging over his neck for life? Are you looking at the possibilities of the child not knowing the circumstances that led to his father's death when he becomes an adult? What about mohbad's father who up till date has not been told the cause of the death of his son, a son her laboured to care for and train from birth. I honestly don't understand the moral values of some Nigerians. |
Beremx:No one is blaming her yet, people are asking her to exonerate herself from his death. If their relationship was so cosy, why did mohbad himself accuse accuse her of wanting to kill him in an audio message just before his death. A police investigation including a DNA Test would clear Wunmis name and shame her detractors. Why doesn't she want to clear her name? If a DNA Test is not done, the stigma of a bustard would hand over that child for life. |
Beremx:How did you know that the bolded wasn't the case? Did you carry out your own investigation or have access to the police report? Do you know the cause of their fight? As there are speculations that apart from a fight between prime boy and mohbad, there was also a fight between Wunmi and Mohbad. You are calling an old man who is grieving his son stupid, I thought you were raised better. The issue is not just about inheritance, it about the true paternity of Mohbad's son, the Aloba's deserves to know if mohbad's son is a true Aloba. Demand of DNA test from grandparents is not a new thing, it's very common, even in the US. |
Beremx:Yes that's how it's done in advanced countries. The police would first of all determine if there were conflicts within the marriage/relationship, and if those conflicts could have been the cause of the murder. Paternity of Liam could be a cause of conflict. Infidelity could be a cause of conflict. If a husband suddenly discovered Paternity fraud by his wife and the child he had loved and invested so much in financially and emotionally, it could lead to a fight that could lead to a murder/manslaughter. Police cannot rule out any lead to uncover what actually killed Mohbad. Also, the Aloba family would like to know if truly Mohbad's son carries their DNA. It would fostered a better relationship between the boy and the Alobas. |
Beremx:Why shame on him? Why are you getting so emotional about protecting Wunmi. Even in more advanced nations, the first suspect of a suspected murder is the spouse. It is after the spouse has been investigated and cleared that the net is widened to include other family members, friends and colleagues. Each person would be investigated thoroughly. Why has the police not questioned Wunmi, take her alabi and statement on what she knows about mobads death. Why is Wunmi's story on the cause of Mobads death always changing? |
thunder74:Nigerians are expert in using technicalities to win cases in court instead of the merits of the case. Are you saying a grandfather or grandmother has no right to question the paternity of their grandchildren, particularly after the demise of their son? So what family name would the child be bearing all through his life? So the Aloba family does not deserve to know if Mobads son is truly theirs. OK, what happens if Wunmi dies and the child is still very young, won't the Aloba family be mandated to take care of the upkeep of the child? Even in the US, I have watched editions of family court where grandparents went to court to order a paternity test on their grandchildren after the death of their son/daughter. There are numerous examples in Nigeria where paternity tests are conducted on all the children of a deceased man in order to determine if they are eligible for the man's inheritance. If Mr Aloba was a billionaire, Mobads wife would not wait for him to ask before conducting a DNA. |
