frank043:I agree with most of what you wrote save the quotes I highlighted in red. From the pictures I have seen, there is no evidence that the concrete quality was bad and also, there is no evidence that the columns meant to take the horizontal thrust failed. From all the pictures I have seen, the roof simply collapsed on itself. It was too heavy to stand. Just look at the size and weight of a single steel truss, then multiply it by the total number used for the whole roof, you will realize the roof cannot stand even place alone on the ground. The concrete pillars and beams were still standing after the collapse. See this video; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dBNKq9dsU_k I also doubt the pillars and beams can withstand the weight of the roof for long even if the roof had not collapsed, they look too flimsy. See the ease with which a small crane snapped the beams and pillars in the video. I am an architect and not a structural engineer, so I concede competence in such matters to you guys. I am only voicing my opinion. |
Structures can be built without central pillars. Geodesic structures are structures built with steel members (triangular units) that can distribute the load within the whole structure.
|
helovesme:No body is saying that soil test to determine its load bearing capacity in order to aid foundation design is not important, what i am emphasizing is that this particular building collapse (or should i say roof collapse) had nothing to with ability of the soil to carry the structural loads (foundation failure). The building collapsed due to structural design failure. There is nothing wrong with the design of the building itself. I have seen several far more complex structures. The problem is too much emphasis was placed on the structural roof work without thinking about the load bearing walls/beams/soil.You are contradicting yourself in one paragraph. You said nothing is wrong with the design itself and then followed up that too much emphasis was placed on the structural roof work without thinking about the load bearing walls/beams/ That roof could not stand the way it was design. |
to9ine:And you think there are no structural engineers/architects or other construction professionals here. |
lofty900:It is a design problem. Are you not seeing the flimsy nature of the concrete pillars that was supposed to carry the steel roof trusses? Can you not see the flimsy way the roof is joined to the beam? It looks like the roof trusses were simply placed on the beam like a cap. A strong wind would have blown the roof off. The weight at the centre of gravity of the roof (the middle) would be tremendous and there were no support or counter balance to offset that weight. |
helovesme:Soil test to determine load bearing capacity is not the issue here as the building did not collapse because of foundation failure. The building collapsed due to design failure. |
Because Jesus christus was a roman creation. Most of the characters in the story had Latin names or of Latin origin, ie Luke (Lucas), Mark (Markus), Peter ( Petros), Barnabas, Judas, Lazarus, etc. Even Mary ( Miriam) is said to be of Latin origin. The Jews find it difficult identifying with roman characters, the same way igbos would find it difficult identifying with songo, olodumare, obatala and other Yoruba mythical characters. |
Blitzerz:The same word of God that could not save members that were brutally killed at reigners church at Uyo, or are you telling us that does that died did not carry their bible to church. |
EgusiSoup:We were not discussing the price of smoked fish or the price of bush meat. This thread is about why the church building in Uyo collapsed, and you put the blame squarely on Buhari. |
EgusiSoup:I am saying that you are totally ignorant that Buhari aka the FG has no business with Building plan approvals and supervision. |
EgusiSoup:Is it ignorance or mental disease that is wrong with some people? What concerns Buhari with Building collapse? Building approvals and regulations are strictly in the purview of States and local governments. I thought someone that claims to possess a WAEC certificate should know that |
"My take on this is that it should be investigated, the contractor(s), the owner of the church and those who supplied materials for this building should be made to answer questions.Investigate Men of God in Nigeria? You must be joking, right? Are you not aware that in Nigeria, prominent Men of God have immunity from investigation and prosecution. Have you not heard about the injunction; "touch not my annointed"? A small girl was slapped live by a man of God, did you hear of any investigation? A guest house built without permission or approval by authorities by a man of God collapsed and killed over a hundred people, did you hear of investigation? Abegi, leave matter for Mathias. The people that died is what we call sara (sacrifice). |
I have not seen so much bulshit concentrated in one place. I am certain the OP did not even take time to read the rubbish he is copying and pasting not to talk of understanding it. I certainly would not waste my time by debunking each paragraph, I will only debunk two fundermental fallacies about the laws of thermodynamics you stated. The Second Law of Thermodynamics states that the total entropy in any isolated thermodynamic system increases over time. The keywords here are isolated thermodynamic system . Can you prove that the universe a strictly isolated thermodynamic system. For starters, dark energy and matter ( of which very little is known) make up to 95% of our observable universe. First Law of Thermodynamics states that energy cannot be created or destroyed. This simply insinuate that the universe is eternal. Put in another way, it state that the total amount of energy in the universe is constant. The problem with you pseudo and religio scientists is that you do not understand that matter is energy. So it is either the universe is eternal or you God is eternal. If it is your God that is eternal, then the laws of thermodynamics cannot be valid, as your God can always add more energy or reduce entropy in the universe at will. |
The whole import of his message is; pay your tithes and offerings without fail so as to avoid recession. Recession period is usually a boom for religious organizations, ponzi schemes and betting companies, they are the only ones that sells hope to the hopeless. |
Jidibia:This same message was what John the baptist said in Matthew 3:1; 1 In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judaea, 2And saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. Now that was even before Jesus was born. Now, Jesus himself in Matthew 24:32 and 33 said the same thing, he even added that it will be in his generation; 32 Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh: 33 So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors. 34Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilledNow over 2000 years later, you Christians are still threatening " Repent, the Kingdom of God is at hand ". |
dominion001:If you acknowledge that fortune or tragedy happens to everyone without any known reason, why then are you Christians insinuating that the over 70 people that died in the plane crash perished because they were not good bible reading Christians, and that the one bible reading christian that survived was proof of bible reading christian's ability to escape tragedy. |
Blitzerz:I am pained because fundamentalist Christians instead of commiserating with the families of over 70 people that died in the senseless and careless accident are trying to score cheap religious points. |
And majority of the passengers that died were reading what? The Koran, the bhagavad gita or tipitaka? So he was the only true Christian in the plane and that was why Jesus saved him? |
Is there something I am missing? How on earth will 3 small 1.2dcv tiger batteries light an incandescent bulb probably rated at 60 watts 220vac. Why did they not take a picture with the bulb lit up? I designed far better circuits at 17. I was building am transmitters using simple transistors and inductors. This is a celebration of mediocrity. I would only be slightly impressed if the boy was able to invert the DC current to 220VAC and then use it to drive the bulb ( even it it lasts a few seconds). Edit I made the above comment after reading the first 2 paragraphs and looking at the picture, so I did not see this; When I interviewed him on how he constructed the lamp, I learnt he used a rubber type of plate, four pieces of wires, batteries, a plain wood, a burnt electric bulb that he inserted a torch bulb inside. This boy you see is a school-drop-out in his SS3 due to financial issues. It still does not make sense. There is no way you can insert a touch bulb or anything else inside an incandescent bulb, because the inside of incandescent bulbs are kept at very low pressure ( to keep the tungsten filament from burning up). If you break the base you will break the glass. It might be that he used LED, but then why bother to go throght the trouble of putting LED inside an incandescent bulb. Mallams make simple touches with a few LEDs mounted on CDs (compact discs). |
Afam4eva:I am surprised someone as brilliant and exposed as you is making the statement I bolded. Well you might be right that any group in Nigeria or any other country has the right to seek self determination, but it is also the right of Nigeria to refuse, such requests. Just like Idi-amin used to say, freedom of speech is guaranteed, but what he cannot guarantee is freedom after speech. A group can only exercise its freedom to self determination if it has the military might to gain and protect that right to self determination or if it has a super power that is ready to help sustain and protect that right to self determination, otherwise, you will just sacrifice your people for nothing. Western Sahara has been fighting for independence from Morocco for decades, Tibet has been under Chinese occupation for almost a century, their spiritual leader has been in exile for decades, the Basque has been fighting for independence from Spain for centuries. The kurds are scattered within three countries and they are fighting Turkey, Iraq and Syria for self determination. I can sight numerous other examples. The ones that had been successful ie, Israel, South Sudan, Taiwan, had the backing of US and by extension UN, if US withdraw support for Taiwan, the Chinese would overrun Taipei within days. |
xelly:You cannot force a referendum on a people, my people had never asked for a referendum. The last time my people asked for a referendum was in 1963, when we decided to opt out of the western region. If you people want a referendum, good for you, but leave us out of it. If we are matured, let's vote and not force people against their wish. If you want Biafrans in Nigeria and they are complaining and want a separate state, look at their complaints and solve it.I really do not care if Biafrans remain in Nigeria or even join Cameroon. We just want to be left alone to chart our future. Oil politics ( which all these agitations is based) has fragmented and disrupted the social economic wellbeing of my people ( not to talk of physical). Most of you people complaints is greater share of power and national cake, is presidency, more states, federal presence, etc. It is never about the socio economic development of the people. To you, give me 5 reasons to have faith in Nigeria or to remain a Nigerian.1. It cannot be done peacefully, meaning there will be a devastating war which will have huge consequences in terms of lives and infrastructure. ( look at Syria and Libya) 2. It will have the animal farm effect. The new leaders in Biafra will not be different from the old leaders in Nigeria. The agitators of Biafra have not shown any new ideas or tendencies different from the normal Nigerian character. 3. Even if it somehow succeed, there will be protracted border war with Nigeria as both sides will lay claims to border areas of Benue, Delta, Rivers and cross rivers. Remember kasmir. My warri might even be caught in the cross fire. 4. Foreign powers like Russia, US, China, France, etc, would cash in to take advantage of our vulnerable state. Each power would support different regions, thereby giving us less sovereignty overseas our economy and affairs. Have many more points but have to go out now. |
XieXie:Living in denial. If Nigeria did not succeed in defeating Biafra, why did you people surrender? Why did Ojukwu run away and Phillip Effiong sign an unconditional surrender letter to Obasanjo? IPOB is simply a radio propagandist outfit by NK to hoodwink and defraud, ignorant traders and okada riders. |
0xtr000r:Mr Igbo, who is sounding pained and miserable between the two of us. You are so pained when people you want to forcefully drag into your biafran dream land reject you. An itsekiri will not waste a single thought on NK, IPOB or Biafra. I quite understand that the earnest desires of you and your hopeless generation is to have the Great Igbo Nation to continue to subsidise your vassalage, cluelessness and obliviousness in this expired entity. Take heart. Please can you tell us how the Igbo's subsidize itsekiris? What has the itsekiris gained from Igbos? Or are you speaking in irony? It is we that subsidizes your sorry ass. If we shut down all our oil wells, you will die of starvation. It has been sounded loud and clear for even the deaf and dumb to understand that Igbos don't need you and all you ever stand for in life and hereafter. Then stop mentioning the itsekiris in your fabled Biafra, stop including warri in your map of Biafra, it is an insult to the people of warri. If we want to join OduaArewanistan or MOSUNDI, I do not see how that is your headache. |
xelly:When you people include non - Igbos in your fabled Biafra, do you explain that it is soley your ideas. If Asari Dokubo says he supports Biafra, you IPOB youths do not see it as a personal opinion but the opinion of all Ijaws and indeed the views of the whole SS. If just one calabar man joins IPOB inspired protest, you say the whole of the SS support IPOB. But if Orji Kalu says he does not support Biafra, you guys says he can only speak for himself, if Obi of Onitsha says he does not support Biafra, you people will say he does not represent his people and only speaking for himself. To IPOB, only them can speak for the entire Igbo tribe and the whole SS inclusive, no other Igbo can speak for the Igbo people. |
Does this disadvantage apply only to women or also applies to men? |
KingEbukaNaija:Wrong analogy. A carpenter can understand doctor's if he is interested. Ditto for a painter and an astronomer. But on religious issues it is not a matter of understanding, it is a matter of faith. I have to have faith that a god can exist outside time and space, not understanding. In digression, if I were to the a theist, I would prefer to be a polytheist. It makes far more sense than monotheism. If one entity or consciousness can exist outside space and time, why not 2 or 1000. Why would the process that produce one God not able to produce multiple? Remember there had been thousands of Gods throughout man's history. It could be that each of these gods chose a particular people to God over. So there should be either no God at all or there are multiple gods. [lPlease explain how an eternal God is scientific and logical. |
KingEbukaNaija:You on the other hand have been a proponent of an nonexistent eternal god . A GOD or GODS CANNOT be eternal . It must have a cause and a beginning. The argument that a God is outside space and time is meaningless. To me the universe was, is and always be. To me the big bang does not represent the universe, but a phase of our own universe. If the universe is everything in existence, there is no way anyone can know everything that can exist. But some people including scientists see the universe as everything we can see. |
Seun:Oga seun, you are just attempting to use a basket to fetch gas by attempting to discus the character of Jesus. Jesus is a very nebulous character created by the roman empire. This character was a mosaic of roman - Jewish - Egyptian and Persian mythologise. Even most of the characters surrounding jesus bears latin names and not Jewish. Even the title Jesus Christus is a roman name and title. Jesus never wrote or even actually said anything, if you read the new testament, all of Jesus's speeches are hearsay. It is almost always preceded by "he said" as someone narrating a story of what some character said. |
KingEbukaNaija:The bolded is a fallacy. No branch of science has any provision for any god. Scientists start their enquiries and research from available data and observations without putting putting any god into their equation. Any unknown is simply regarded as such - unknown and not attributed to any god or gods. |
jamace:Yes this is a period for you and me to look inwards and patronize our own products, but this does not apply to big men. The Nigerian political and business elites have stashed away enough dollars in foreign banks (and even Nigerian banks) to last a life time. So they are not affected by the dollar-naira exchange rate like you and me. Did the former first lady not explain to us that the $15 million found in her accounts were for her medical bills? |
jamace:So it is now a crime to patronize foreign hospitals? In that case all Nigerian politicians (including Jonathan and his family) is guilty of this crime. Even you people's hero Godswill Akpabio, who had a slight accident last year was flown abroad instead of patronizing the multi-billion naira hospital he built. Most rich men in Nigeria are also guilty of this crime because most of them travel abroad not just for treatment but for even check ups. |
HungerBAD:Can you expatiate further how this man has been killing and looting Nigerians for decades, Was it when he was Chief of army staff or when he was defense minister under OBJ? Even under OBJ"s civilian administration, he was at logger heads with OBJ on the term term issue and OBJ could not accuse him of looting Nigeria. OBJ went after his oil blocks by seizing and reallocating one of them. He took the matter to court to retrieve the oil blocks. Yes Danjuma is into the oil Business, so also are dozens of other Nigerians (especially people from the WA-ZO-BIA tribe. To make the matter more absurd, foreigners and foreign companies own more oil leasing and mining license than Nigerians as a whole. So i wonder why you guys are only after one person. If you are so aggrieved write a petition to the police, EFCC or ICPC detailing the alleged crimes of Danjuma. |
