coputa:Jonathan's supporters who are still pained by his election loss would not even consider Jonathan as corrupt. They are ready to defend him or excuse him with their last breath. |
coputa:And you think Nigerians have not been electing educated people into office since independence? Oya, suggest the educated person you think can solve all our problems. It is not enough to always wail and criticize, it is good to also suggest solutions. |
Useless wailings. Was it Buhari that built the zoo at aso rock? Did Jonathan not budget for the feeding of animals including his numerous Alsatians while at aso rock. What exactly are wailers wailing about now? To stop feeding the animals and allow them starve to death or close down the zoo. If chief wailers Ben Bruce has issues with the zoo and wants it closed down, he has the power to do something about it instead of wailing on twitter. |
It is because you did not regard your home country as your home in the first place. A home has much more meaning than a place that provides material comfort. See Melissa Ward's speech at the UN security council detailing what home means to a Syrian woman; I sat in the apartment of an elder woman called Souad who lost three of her sons in this war, she's blind and elderly and suffers from various health problems. Needless to say she was not able to get the medicine that she required for quite some time and the neighborhood that she lives in has really been bombed into the stone age. |
KingOfAmebo:The bolded statement betrays your age. Obviously, you know nothing of the massive looting that took place under the Shagari administration. 1983 and 2015 shares many parallels. Both the Shagari and Jonathan administrations supervised massive looting of the treasury despite record oil prices. The both almost bankrupted the nation due to massive borrowings. Immediately Buhari took over oil prices crashed, leading to huge foreign exchange scarcity. You wailers should thank your stars that Jonathan (and madam world bank) was not president when oil prices remained in the 30s for several months. You people would have known the real meaning of economic recession |
krysto:Constitution and institutions alone cannot develop a society, it is values and attitudes of the people that can make a society great. After all some countries do not have a written constitution and they are doing great. And which Legislature will enact the laws to kill looters, and which Judiciary interpret the laws to kill looters? I hope you are not depending on the Nigerian National Assembly or the Judiciary. The executive branch alone cannot write all the wrongs without the cooperation of the National Assembly and the Judiciary. |
440 yams ke? It seems the reporter is horrible in counting. One column contains up to 30 yams and just one cell seems to hold up 300 yams and from the extent of the pictures, i can count at least 6 cells on one side. Maybe the reporter meant to 4400 yams. |
GreatMahmud:You claim not to be igbo but reason like an IPOB youth. Buhari outperform Ojukwu on any criteria you can thing of; Ojukwu got a master's degree in history at Oxford University, Buhari got a diploma (the equivalent of a Master's Degree) at the US war college. Ojukwu left the Nigerian Army as a Colonel, Buhari retired from the Nigerian Army as a Major General. Ojukwu never saw physical combat during the war as he was always under the protection of his Guards, he fled the only time he came face to face with the Nigerian Army. Buhari and 16th division of the Nigerian army under the command of colonel E. A Etuk were holed up and surrounded by Biafran soldiers at Owerri for over 3 months, and were able to fight their way out of the siege to Port Harcourt. Ojukwu had not held any public office or even worked outside the 10 odd years he was in the Nigerian Army + 3 as a rebel in the Biafran army; Buhari has held various offices throughout his career, the pinnacle being selected as Military head of state by his colleagues. Ojukwu had never won an election in his life, Buhari won the presidential election to became president of Nigeria. How can any sane person say than Ojukwu is more accomplished than Buhari? |
You should also ask why Donald Trump almost always wears a deep blue suit with a red tie (the tie is always below the belt). Have you also not wondered why why someone would intentionally choose to wear the same outfit since he was was inaugurated as POTUS. Is someone telling me now that the US president has only one cloth? |
adekoonlay:Believe me NATO would not go to war against Iran, only Trump's USA. The only country that would support the US in a war with Iran is Israel, and that would complicate the war as ALL Arab countries in the middle east would be involved. The Iraqi wars were fairly won easily not necessarily because of US super power but because of involvement and support of all Arab nations and NATO. Furthermore, Saddam Hussein had lost the support of the Iraqi people, so the soldiers and populace were not ready to put their lives on the line for him, and hence you saw Iraqi soldiers surrendering in droves without firing a single bullet. Iran would be different. Unless the US drops a nuclear bomb on Iran like it was done with Japan, I do no see the Iranains surrendering without fighting to the last man. |
WINNERMENTALITY:But IPOB and PDP always make every thing a POLITICAL matter. Even though lots of Nigerians have misgivings about government policies, they do not want to been seen as pro IPOB or PDP. IPOB and PDP have taken the election loss of Jonathan too personal that they heap personal insults on Buhari and anybody they see that is sympathetic to the government. |
Different strokes for different folks. If you do not want to have sex before marriage, it is your right, nobody should force you to have sex before marriage. On the other hand, those who want to have sex outside marriage is also within their rights to do so, as long as the sex is consensual. No body should dictate to others when and how to have sex. Religious people (Christians and Muslims) have to learn to start minding their business and concentrate on improving their own lives instead of trying to forcefully impose their views on others. |
jejemanito:Mr broda, ayam no understanding too o, I also thought that in democracy as promoted by the US, the legislature must make the laws and provide the budget to the executive to execute the laws. Now thump has shown that you can rule by decrees ( executive orders) and can build a $10 billion wall without legislative budgeting. I honestly do not see the need of the legislature in a Trump presidency. |
Naijiant:And you can write correct English? |
Orikinla1:Please quit arguing blindly and off point. Nobody is criticising the US for deporting illegal immigrants. Most countries ( including south Africa) regularly deports illegal immigrant Nigerians back into Nigeria. What we are discussing is a blanket discriminatory ban based on religion or nationality, deporting or refusing entry to people with legal papers ( green card or valid visas) or refusing refugees from countries that was distabilized by the US in the first place. |
ollah1:Do not mind these sadists. The US invaded Iraq without reason ( looking for phantom weapons of mass distruction) and distabilzed the country and the whole region. Saddam Hussein was not even interested in the US. Now they are now blaming and punishing ordinary Iraqis for no just reason. |
Orikinla1:Trump is just retaliating for the 1979 hostage saga? No citizen of the banned countries was involved in 911. In fact no citizen of these countries had ever commited a terrorist act against in the US. Saudi Arabia and Egypt that had the bulk of the 911 was spared by Trump. Do not also forget that a Nigerian had attempted to carry out a terrorist attack in the US, so I wonder why Nigeria is not on that list. |
If president Trump did not ban Muslims from entering the US, what is Iran doing on the list? How many refugees have entered or applied to enter the US from Iran? How many Iranians have carried out terrorist attacks on the US or even in Europe? Nobody is questioning his planned deportation of illegal immigrants, what people are complaining about is singling out Muslims and Mexicans. Furthermore he fails to distinguish between legal and illegal immigrants as far as Muslims from his targeted countries is concerned. |
kaydutchboy:Please go back to school, preferably primary school, so you can learn to read and write. You might then be in a position to comprehend the matter under discussion. |
kaydutchboy:Yes he acquired $50 million jet and all the other properties after leaving office, or are you insinuating that it is illegal for retired public officers to acquire properties? Ibori was not arrested and prosecuted for acquiring properties, he was arrested and jailed for breaking Britain's money laundry laws. His properties in Nigeria has not been seized. He was prosecuted and acquitted in Nigeria for various financial crimes, eg he was accused of selling econet shares bought on behalf of Delta state government and diverting the money his to personal personal account. The CEO of econet accused him of demanding for bribes among other allegations. The EFCC can decide to appeal the Asaba high court ruling that acquitted Ibori when he gets back. James Cameron, Obama and Co cannot acquire private jets on leaving office because the law does not allow them to exploit their position to acquire wealth while in office. The problem is with our laws. It enables and protects those in power to manipulate and exploit the system. Only the stupid or careless ones would ever be caught. There is no former president or governor in Nigeria that cannot afford a private jet. As I said earlier, there is no law that mandates a Nigerian to disclose the source of his or her wealth. |
BigIyanga:The details of his businesses and properties should be contained in his asset declaration forms, before and immediately after he being in public office. After leaving public office he is not required to declare his assets |
kaydutchboy:He acquired the private jet and Nation Newspapers after leaving office. He is not required to fill an asset declaration form again unless he wants to contest for a public office again. |
kaydutchboy:EFCC or any other government agency has no right to question Tinubu or any other Nigerian on how he or she acquired any property. There is no law to that effect. The only way the EFCC can inquire into someone else's properties is if there is evidence that the property was acquired from the proceeds of a crime, meaning that there is actual evidence ( paper trails, witnesses, petitions, etc, that money was stolen and that money was suspected to have been used to buy the properties, then the EFCC can apply to the courts to have the properties seized pending the conclusion of the trials. The only other thing the government can do if they suspect a governor or any other public official is corrupt is look into the asset declaration form they filled when entering and leaving office, and then charge them with false declaration of assets, the undeclared assets can be seized by government. |
ayindejimmy:Do not waste your time explaining to Ben Bruce, PDP and co, they know the truth, but must wail and hate Buhari for political purposes. No matter what Buhari does, he will be vilified. Even if naira miraculously become one dollar, they would say it was due to Jonathan's policies and Buhari could not have done anything to improve the naira in just one year. That is the same argument with Book Haram, they say, the success of book haram was due to Jonathan, because they say Buhari had not bought any new weapons or recruited new soldiers, but if the news is "Boko Haram attacks a town" they would pour their venom on Buhari. When Buhari stubbornly refused to devalue the Naira, emergency economists like Ben Bruce attacked buhari, saying the Buhari is clueless about economy, now that the government has devalued the naira ( they do not have the dollars to defend it anyway), they have gone to town with their wailings again calling Buhari all sorts of names. No matter what Buhari does, Good or bad, wailers will wail. The sad aspect it that their distractive wailing noise will not allow people to discuss genuine concerns about government policies. |
l could stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot somebody and I wouldn’t lose any voters |
The heading Is completely different from the body of the article. This is what the heading said; BREAKING: Russia And US Warplanes Strike Syria In First Ever JOINT Attack But this is what the body of the article said; The Russian Defense Ministry confirmed the coordinated attacks, which also reportedly involved Turkish forces. So, when did Turkish F16s and F14s become US war planes? |
Is it that people in this forum cannot read or have comprehension difficulties? Where in the said law did it say president Trump made abortion illegal? What the laws simply says is that it withdraws federal funding for organisations that is involved in helping others procure abortions. This means people who can afford it can procure their own abortions. Since rich people did not need federal funding through charity organisations to procure abortions in the first case, this law will only affect the poor. |
Omudia11:Were the over 2 million Americans that came out to protest his polices (promised) on Saturday Muslims? |
jeff1607:And who told you she was killed by book people? Info from people close to her says she died as a result of an illness. |
omohayek:It is more complex than that. Removal of fuel subsidy might not necessarily reduce demand (except corruption demand). What will be the alternative to buying fuel? What ever the price, we need to run our businesses and our homes. Before the last increase, I was spending about N12,000 every week to run my office, now I spend up to N25,000, (this is despite paying NEPA bills of N10,000 monthly without seeing light for days on end.) I am still buying the same quantity of petrol I was buying before the increase. Now, are you suggesting we park our cars at home and trek to work bease of fuel increase? As long as there are no cheaper, convenient and effective means of public transportation, demand for petrol for our cars will not reduce. As for the Naira's continuous depreciation over the years, that owes a lot more to a lack of budgetary discipline at the government level than to import demands per se. Much more stringent budgetary discipline could have kept the money supply in check and kept the Naira stronger, but at the likely cost of a severe contraction in the economy. My brother forget budgetary discipline, as long as we do not produce, and have to depend on imported fuel, food, drinks, simple household items like matches, tooth picks, hankerchiefs, etc. The Naira will depreciate perpetually. |
4Play:Yes, I agree the issue of saving became political. The PDP and the finance minister use savings as a barometer for economic success. Okonjo Iweala and OBJ used the over $60 saved from 1999 - 2007 as proof of their economic performance. She blamed current economic woes on her inability to save because of opposition by the governors. Regarding fiscal savings, no amount of such saving would have saved us from a prolonged oil slump. You are talking of tens of billions - perhaps at least $100bn - for a sustained period. That would have been impossible without removing fuel subsidy and reversing the big increases in public sector wages (remember minimum wage increased from N5k to N18k). There was no appetite for that.I agree with you that no amount of savings could have saved us from current economic doldrums, but I disagree with you that fuel subsidy and wage increase were the problems. Fuel subsidy or not, as long as we spend billions of dollars to import fuel, the dollar will always run away from the naira, that is not even considering that we import food and other consumer items. How can the minimum wage remain constant in naira when all our consumption is denominated in dollars. If were consider inflation rate and exchange rate fluctuations, you will realize that absolute minimum rate has really not increased. |
obailala:I am surprised and embarrassed that the best panacea for economic development a Harvard trained economists like Okonjo Iweala could suggest is save, save and save. Save for what exactly? In sustained periods of depressed oil prices, how long will the saved money carry us? What happens after we have exhausted all the savings? USA, where she got trained as an economist never advocate savings, they talk about reducing debts and deficit spendings. They owe trillions of dollars and borrowing more. UAE that also enjoyed the oil boom never saved, instead they invested all their earnings home and abroad, so much so, that they do not care about oil anymore. |
