Immorttal:One school of thought ( and study ) says plants are conscious, but on a different level of consciousness to animals. I have read books that shows plants are able to communicate over distances and "feel pain" when cut. Cannibalism is the act of an individual of a specie eating another individual of the same specie. I do not understand the broader sense you are defining cannibalism. Are you insinuating eating shrimps by humans is cannibalism? Vegetarianism or veganism has little to do with theism. Most people I know to be vegans/vegetarians do so for compassionate reasons ( they feel compassion for the slaughtered animals) and not for religious reasons. The Abrahamic religions strongly supports the rearing, slaughtering and eating of animals. |
winner01:You a scientist? That is a laugh. Your posts shows you have no idea of what evolution is and just copy and paste Googled articles of the internet without even reading and understanding them. Even, the bolded statement shows you have no clue of how evolution works. Millions of sub humans evolving into millions if humans , you think evolution is magic?Tell me the disciplines you got your first and second degree from, I am sure it will not be in the biological sciences, because you spew too much ignorance in this field. |
Immorttal:I have never really understood the philosophy behind veganism, can you explain further why you forbid eating animals and animal products but gleefully eat plants. So you do not respect plants and propose they should suffer in their very short life? |
This thread is dead on arrival by making seun the only respondent. First seun is not an authority on biological evolution, and secondly seun would not have the time for long senseless arguments with you. Finally, it is senseless to restrict the thread to only two people, it makes it look like you are only interested in an ego contest with spectators viewing. Authorities on evolution on nairaland are Jonnydon22, cloudgoddess, yours truly, and a few others I can't remember now.I for one lack the time to engage in such a debate, maybe if you throw the challenge to Jonny or cloudgoddess, they might oblige you. A caveat; Atheism and Evolution are not mutually exclusive. One can believe in one without believing in the other. |
Only foundation fee, what about decking fee, roofing fee, fencing fee and any other fee the "omonile" can come up with. I even had to pay renovation fee once, before I was allowed to comment a renovation contract I had. How are the fees to be determined and what happens if the new land owner refuses to pay? How are the "legal" Omoniles to be determined, what happens if one set of Omonile comes to collect Omonile fees and the next day another set comes again with cutlasses to demand for theirs? As happened to so many new house builders in Lagos. I do not see force men paying this Omonile fees. This law is what I call legalizing illegality. Why can't all the various extra fees be included with the price of the land? |
MizJanet:So you have not realized that their God is a Jewish man who speaks only Aramaic, with blue eyes and was circumsized according to Jewish customs. |
ivandragon:You are indeed responding as an interested party, interested in defending the Jonathan administration with lies and half truths. 1. Why did the governors threaten to take the FG to Court? (I am still searching for the link that proves that the governors actually filed a case against the FG). Was it to stop the FG from saving into the ECA/SWF or to stop Jonathan from unilaterally dipping his hands into the funds? 2. That is what the 36 governors want to find out. Why was the FG obsessed with saving the money due to other tiers of government but not interested in saving any if its own share? 3.This is a white lie. The FG claimed to use the ECA and not only its share of the funds to fund the fraudulent subsidy regime. You said Jonathan handed over $2 billion on handover, are you aware of how much should have accrued the ECA over the close to 4 years crude was selling at over 100/barrel? Budget bench mark never went above $70/ barrel and for long periods crude was over $110 , now calculate the difference at $39/day for production volume of 2.2 million barrels/ day for over 4 years. I have not even put into consideration that Jonathan inherited $6.5 billion from Yar adua from the ECA. |
shaqhead:This is what the link you pasted said; THE thirty-six governors under the aegis of Nigeria Governors’ Forum, NGF, are poised for war with President Goodluck Jonathan and the Federal Government over what they described as excessive deductions from the excess crude account. It will be recalled that the governors have been having a running battle with the Federal Government over what they said was illegal deduction from the excess crude account jointly owned by both levels of government, just as both parties had opted for an out of court settlement on the matter early in the year. Rising from a meeting, Wednesday night, at the Rivers State governor’s Lodge, Asokoro, Abuja and expressing pain over the action of the federal government, the governors have resolved to drag the President to the Supreme Court to seek redress. The report said the governors accuse Jonathan of stealing from the ECA and threatened to drag the FG to the supreme court, so I do not get where wailers got the story of Amaechi dragging Jonathan to court to stop him from saving from. |
CHIJIOKE1314:Please provide evidence that the governors actually took the FG to court over saving money in the ECA/SWF. |
On the donation of $390,000 to the Dream Team VI by a Japanese plastic surgeon and football enthusiast, Dr. katsuya Takasu, the lawmaker said it was wrong of the team to receive the money because its source was unknown. And the source of billions on naira donated openly to Nigerian presidential campaigns ( both APC and PDP) is known. The source of millions of naira donated during book launches of prominent political figures is known. Stupid lawmaker. |
donnffd:I am proud that some Nigerians like you have sound knowledge of physics, instead of celebrating ignorance in the guise of religion. The universe is indeed a very chaotic place. The semblance of order is isolated and short lived ( astronomically). Galaxies are distributed in a highly random and disorderly manner. |
APCHaram:And the SWF have legal backing? The SWF is the same as the excess crude account, it is to save the money earned in excess of the oil bench mark. In fact the money remaining in the excess crude account was transferred to the Sovereign Wealth Fund. |
CHIJIOKE1314:He has no point, he was just trying to justify the squandering of our oil boom by Jonathan. How can he say APC took GEJ to court, when APC was not even in existence until about two and a half years ago? He should provide evidence that APC or any other body took GEJ to court. The only president that I was aware that was actually taken to court by the governors forum was OBJ. |

malvisguy212:And how did you know? Are you an atheist? I don't think I ever had the fear of hell, it had never made sense. How can a lake if physical fire hurt a spiritual body. How do you torture a spirit? The whole myth of hell was located in ancient Greece. |
Ranchhoddas:The universe does not exactly have an age. What is known is that the universe started its expansion some 12 - 15 billion years ago. It is you religious people that are so arrogant in ignorance. You guys are so mentally lazy, that you are not ready to study and research any physical phenomena. Left to you guys, the sun, planets and moon would still be gods, and any unexplained phenomena would simply be allocated to a god. |
eshietIntrepid:You guys are pathetic. Any positives in Buhari's government, you credit Jonathan, but any negative, you exonerate Jonathan. For example, Buhari's government is defeating boko haram, you praise Jonathan for starting it and buying arms, Boko haram strikes, you castigate Buhari. NEPA has improved, you praise Jonathan to high heavens for fixing NEPA before he left, NEPA supply darkness as usual, you blame buhari for not supplying power. The list can go on and on. The only house that your Hero, Jonathan build was a house of corruption and the whole world was aware except PDP and its allies; IPOB, NDA, TAN, etc. |
omaiyale:16 years. After 16 years of APC rule, we can then compare notes. |

What I find strange in Pentecostalism is that when pastors wants Gods blessings, he asks his members to provide the blessings, but when a member needs blessings, the man of god still ask the member to bless him so that he can pray for god to bless the member. Why can't the pastor ask God to bless him directly and when members ask the pastor for material blessings, provide the material blessings so that god can bless the pastor in return. |
Lilimax:This bible verse only talks about marriage, bed whores and adulterers, please show be a verse that forbids sex before marriage. |
ROCK100:So a Jewish man called Jesus Christ created the universe and then decided to be born of a Virgin girl in order to be killed by his fellow Jews as a sacrifice to himself to save us from his wrath. Indeed ignorance is bliss. |
Jay542:I still ask, who did they scam and how? |
ROCK100:Step by step analysis on how the earth came to be? Do you know what analysis means. Let me give another step by step "analysis of how the earth came to be. " Summary and Analysis: Greek Mythology The Beginnings — Creation. In the beginning there was only Chaos, an empty void. But somehow this enormous vacancy gave birth to Gaea, the earth, to Tartarus, the great region beneath the earth, and to Eros, the shining god of love and attraction. And there are many more " step by step analysis" analysis of how the earth came to be, in fact, every culture on earth has a " step by step analysis" of how the earth came to be. |
Seun:No court can charge these guys or even the pastor for scam. The pastor never told people to pay for miracles. Tithes and offerings collected at the revivals are "donations", they are not mandatory. You see people performing all sorts of magic "tricks" in street corners and stages, even in developed countries in the full glare of police officers, and asking for donations thereafter. No body is arrested for scam. Every Sunday in thousands of churches, people come out to give all sorts of outlandish and fake testimonies. Pastors give incredulous stories of raising the dead after 3 days. In all these noboby has ever been arrested for scam. |
ROCK100:I think the word God is imaginary because it is always created in the minds of specific people to reflect their fears, aspirations, ambitions and knowledge. The ancient Jews would imagine a God that would help them win wars and conquer their enemies. The first century Jews needed a God that would help them tolerate the oppression of the Roman empire, and hence their new God Jesus had to be a peaceful Jew. If they warred against the Romans and created a war God like Yahweh, the romans would have annihilated them. The Nordic people also created a very violent God. The Greeks created a more Democratic and wise God. Etc. Just like beauty which is the eye of the beholder, God is in the mind of the beholder. |
What exactly is their crime? They are simply actors. Miracle pastors hire them to act in churches and revival stages, and they are paid for services rendered. It is not their fault that people believe and enjoy their acting and willingly drop tithes and offerings for the pastors. Besides, where is the evidence even if a crime was commited. Eavesdropping on traveller's conversation will not pass as evidence in a law court. Someone will have to complain of being duped and the dupes caught in the act, before the people could be arrested and prosecuted. The police here are just after "bail" money. |
naijadeyhia:I don't know whether you are being deliberately dishonest or you have comprehension difficulty. Where is crying in the definition of compassion you pasted above. People cry for all sorts of reasons, some cry for joy, some cry for spiritual experience, some even cry for no reason ( remind me of my 5 year old, he cries just to get attention). The definition of compassion is; sympathetic pity and concern for the sufferings or misfortunes of others. No where did it state that crying means compassion. So explain to us the sufferings and misfortune of the OP that warrants the said Lady to be crying because of compassion. It is not only people you care for you cry for, I have seen people cry for people they hate after they die. Go to funerals, you will even see people that hate the deceased crying louder than others. |
naijadeyhia:So according to you crying over someone is a definition of compassion? You need to enrol into a grammar school. |
KingEbukasBlog:Please provide links and references to these facts. What emotional problems are specific to atheists, and anger and hatred for who or what? How many atheists do you know? And how many has emotional problems? |
naijadeyhia:Compassion? I am sure you do not have the faintest idea what compassion is. New age Christianity (Pentecostalism) has the least compassion of all religions I know. Looking around you, what compassion has the major Pentecostal churches given to Nigerians in general and their members to be specific. These brand of Christianity cannot do anything compassionate without expectations of reward - physical or spiritual. Look for a popular thread in the politics section titled "Nigeria has finished me" where Nigerians were donating to other Nigerians in need, irrespective of tribe or religious views, you will see very few Pentecostal Christians making donations. The same person that is crying for a backsliding Christian because of compassion would lose compassion when asked for financial or material assistance. |
blacksahara:I don't mean you personally, I was try to say Christians condemn Muslims for issuing fatwa's to Muslims that convert to Christianity. Maybe she has bigger plans for you ( marriage things), that must be the reason why she was crying over your religious views. Other than that, I do not see the reasons she would be crying over anyone's beliefs or disbeliefs. My only advice to you is; be true to yourself and your beliefs. You will confuse your life and people around you by vacillating between beliefs. |
blacksahara:The bolded is what I cannot understand. Why will what you believe or not believe make someone else cry? Why can't she just accept you for who you are? And you condemn Muslims for being hysterical at a fellow Muslim loosing faith. During my secondary school days in the 80's, nobody asked or cared about your religion, tribe or even status. We made friends easily and truthfully. Even though I was a norminal Christian then, one of my best friend was a Muslim. One of deinde Fernandez's son was my junior, and nobody cared. He was even punished more by seniors. OP, do what makes you happy. If Christianity gives you joy go ahead and believe. If atheism gives you peace of mind, then go ahead. It is your life. You should never allow yourself to be emotionally blackmailed into living according to someone else's expectations. |
