The case went up to the supreme Court and the governor's forum won, so GEJ had to share the excess crude funds. So why blame GEJ So what happened to Jonathan's 52% share if the funds? So Amaechi revealed Jonathan from saving. It was also Amaechi that made Jonathan withdraw money from the excess crude accounts illegally? |

Anyway my advise is that we all need to call a spade a spade. And within that time OBJ was able to pay $16 billion to the Paris club, hosted CHOGOM, Commonwealth games, saved into our foreign reserves and still steal some money. OBJ must be a miracle worker. Now why not compare with Jonathan's five years when crude prices averaged $100 per barrel. |

So Jonathan would have performed magic and held the naira at N200 to $1 even when crude prices falls to $30. If Jonathan had such magical powers, i am sure he will be highly sought after in Russia, Saudi Arabia, Venezuela and Azerbaijan. All these countries are facing the same economic crisis as their economies depends on mainly crude exports. Read this article; Russia As one of the world's largest oil producers, Russia has been a prominent victim of the plunging prices. About half of Russia's budget revenues currently come from energy exports. The rouble is also under pressure from economic sanctions that the West imposed on Russia for its involvement in the Ukraine conflict. On Monday, the national currency dropped to new lows, with the exchange rate dipping to 79 roubles to the dollar and 86 roubles to the euro - something not seen since December 2014.
Saudi Arabia Saudi Arabia's income from oil fell by 23% last year, highly significant in an economy where around 73% of total revenues comes from the industry. The country announced a budget deficit nearing $100bn (£68bn).
Venezuela Venezuela has the world's biggest known oil reserves, and oil exports account for as much as 95% of the country's revenues. However, the huge fall in oil prices in the past 18 months has slashed revenues by 60%. On Saturday, Venezuela's government announced a 60-day economic emergency to deal with a worsening economic crisis. The edict includes tax increases and puts emergency measures in place to pay for welfare services and food imports. - http://www.bbc.com/news/world-35345874 |

Nigeria's only way out is to collapse the expensive state structure the military created and collapse them into autonomous, federating regions and see if healthy competion and use of resource control won't change this overnight This revelation was not revealed by man but by the holy spirit. This is what i have been saying, this military imposed political structure cannot lead to development, even if oil sells at $200/barrel and we have resource control up to community level. The states and local governments as presently constituted are vehicles of corruption. We need to collapse the federation to no more than 6 federating units. |

Where were the parents when the kano man was "abducting" their daughter? If you read the article carefully; We strongly believe that the said Miss Ese Rita Oruru has not only has been hypnotized but also recruited as a tool in the hand of an Islamic fanatical group in Kano State. Miss Ese Rita Oruru is only 13-years-old and cannot give informed consent to marriage and is still held hostage. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Oruru are petty traders who are putting all efforts to meet the needs of their children. ” you will realize that the 13year old willingly followed the man to kano, consensually agreed to the marriage (albeit illegally) and is unwilling to return to the parents. It is obvious the parents effort to meet the material and emotional needs of their children is grossly inadequate. In western nations, such parents would lose custody of the child. Meanwhile, the marriage is null and void as the girl is not up to the age of consent, and the man can be charged for rape and abduction. |

The twitter senator and his supporting chorus never cease to amaze me, they try to sound intelligent but always end up sounding stupid. That we need to buy made in Nigeria and reduce consumption of imported products to help strengthen the naira and thus the economy is not rocket science. A an ss3 economic student should know that. The question is how. How do you make made in Nigeria products competitive and attractive? How can you make made in Nigeria products compete in terms of quality and price with those made in China, Malaysia or even Ghana? To "made in Nigeria" you would rely on imported machinery, imported raw materials, imported fuel apart from multiple taxation both formal and informal from local, states and federal government.
Nigeria needs a make in Nigeria campaign instead of made in Nigeria. Made in Nigeria is simply importing parts of a product and assembling it and then labeling it " made in Nigeria". It Is usually more expensive than outrightly imported products. Ben Bruce did not tell us the cost of his innoson car as compared to a similar car ( in terms of quality) imported from Korea or Japan. He Might have bought it as a publicity stunt instead of practical purposes.
Make in Nigeria is a wholesome policy of making products from local materials and local machinery with local, transferred or stolen technology. It relies on very few imported materials. India is currently succeeding with a make in India policy. Ben Bruce should advise Buhari to initiate and implement a make in Nigeria policy Before he can start promoting a buy Nigeria campaign. |

Jonathan never achieved more than 30% implementation of the budget, intact Jonathan never looks at the budget to spend. He just directs Okonjo Iweala or Emefiele to release cash without even looking at the budget. The extra-budgetary spendings of Jonathan was more than the budget itself. In 2013 Jonathan spent over N2.3 trillion naira on fuel subsidy alone when the budgeted amount was just over N500 billion. PDP are just wailing for nothing. The president presented the budget to them, the job of passing te budget rests with te national assembly, if they find the budget proposals questionable, they can, reject the budget or amend the budget with the cooperation of the executive. There is no need of overdramatizing the budget "errors", this will not be the first time te national assembly would disagree with budget proposals from the presidency and the national assembly had never passed a budget as submitted by the executive. |

Politics › Re: How Buhari Is Dealing Deadly Blows To The Nigerian Economy. by wirinet(m): 4:39pm On Feb 17, 2016 |
PapaBrowne: I am about to wail and wail really loud. My wailing is about the exchange rate. 354 Naira to the dollar.
This is terrible and has never happened with this speed ever before in this country. And the single reason for this terrible exchange rate uncertainty is Buhari's insistence that the CBN should not officially devalue the currency just to score cheap political goals.
I want to use this simple narrative to explain whats happening with our currency..and how Buhari's insistence is dealing deadly blows to the economy. The purported official exchange rate is 197 Naira to the dollar. The market rate as at yesterday was 354 Naira to the dollar.
Scenario 1 Now lets assume you are a company importing say industrial goods. So you want to restock and you need $10 million. So you apply for that amount to CBN (say in January) and you pay 1.97 billion Naira at the official exchange rate. CBN delays your approval by about a month(February), but no worries, you now have your $10 million. Typically, you would transfer your money to your supplier say in South Korea and say it takes another month to produce your order(March) and 2 months for shipping to Nigeria(May). Lets say it takes maybe 3 months to sell out your entire stock(August). Lets assume you usually mark up profits on your products by 20% after taxes et al. So on an investment of $10 million, you would make a profit of say $2 million from January to August. At the official exchange rate that is approx 400 Million Naira in 8 months. Good money it seems yeah?
Scenario 2 You are still a company importing industrial goods. So you want to restock and you need $10 million. So you follow the same process starting in January. Apply, pay 1.97 billion Naira, you get your $10 million in February. You decide not to transfer it. Dollar is exchanging at 320 Naira in the black market. So you take $5 Million from that money and sell it to BDCs at 300 Naira. You are given 1.5 billion Naira cash instantly. In one day, you've made a whooping 500 million Naira in profits. You hoard the rest of the $5 Million overseas on the speculation that dollar would exchange for 500 Naira in the next 3 months. And when that happens, your $5 million would give you N2.5 billion cash. So in total by May/June, you would have earned 1.5 Billion +2.5 Billion= 4 billion Naira from your 1.97 billion Naira investment.
That is 2 Billion Naira returns in 5 months vs N400 million in 8 Months. And you can even make more iff you keep round tripping with the CBN.
The first and direct consequence on this is the the continual rise in the exchange rate. Now that's a problem in itself but maybe not too big of a problem because a weak Naira can actually help your products sell well overseas.
The bigger problem however in the scenario for instance, is the sudden conversion from an industrial goods importer to a Forex Trader. Imagine what would suddenly happen to all those companies who depended on the industrial goods this trader was importing to keep thier factories running. Suddenly, they start laying off staff because they can't produce and then the whole economy suffers the ripple effect.
With Buhari, our economy is in real trouble. The bigger danger is that he doesn't even appear to understand the implications of his action and the near irreversibility of a badly battered economy.
I am not here to insult the President. I don't believe in that. He is the President, so the office should at least be respected. But something is not right and every patriotic Nigerian would do well to speak.I think we have not just an unintelligent President, but a stubborn one that completely lacks an understanding of basic economic principles and refuses to listen to even the best of his aides. I say this because I know the likes of Fashola who understands the rudiments of basic economics would have the same understanding of the scenarios painted and the long term implications they would have on this country.
Pat Utomi has spoken. Emir Sanusi has spoken. Many others are dying to speak. I beg, if you love this country, its imperative Buhari must be told to remove his hands from monetary policy and leave it for the professionals at CBN. I am responding to your post because i respect your views a lot, i know you love this country and would like to see it progress, unlike some people who pray day and night to see Buhari fail even if it means the destruction of Nigeria. You do no seem to understand the seriousness of the problems created by PDP 16 years of looting, profligacy and visionlessness. Have you ever heard of the word zugzwang? Zugzwang is a chess position, whereby whichever move you make is a bad move. Nigeria and Buhari is in an economic Zugzwang. Now, what do you think will happen if the naira is allowed to float against other currencies. I think the same 2 scenarios would still play out. If you buy your $10million dollars in January when crude prices was $35 to the barrel and naira was N197 to the dollar, three months later when oil falls to $27, naira might have fallen to N300. You keep forgetting that our main source of foreign exchange is crude and the supply of dollars into the Nigeria market depends on the price of crude. If the naira is allowed to float, it might lead to free fall as lots of speculators would buy and hoard every available dollar in anticipation of the naira falling further, leading to the naira falling further. Remember, crude prices are speculated to fall as low as $20 later this year, so we expect the naira to fall even further. I know Buhari trying to restrict demand for dollars is an exercise in futility, the pressure on the naira is to great and so the more oil prices fall, the more the disparity between the official and parallel markets, the more banks and speculators take advantage to make billions, due to the weak regulatory capacity of CBN. I know Buhari is just bidding for time, hoping that somehow crude prices would rebound to around $40 -$50 per barrel. If it continues to fall, then i am sorry to say, we are in trouble, whether we control or float the naira. |

This article refers to November 2013, and in 2013 crude prices hardly went below $100 per barrel. How come GEJ was complaining of " revenue shortfalls" when oil was selling above $100? Why did Jonathan declare only N568.4 billion as total revenue for the month of October 2013 when oil sold for close to $110? re-read your post again as see if it did not implicate the Jonathan administration. FG, States, LGs Share N568.4 Billion for Oct
Also, $1billion was proposed for distribution to complement shortfall in expected revenue. " The $1billion is a compromise by the FG over its words in September not to augment shortfalls anymore.
Responding to the presentation, the chairman of the States Commissioners of Finance and Ebonyi State Commissioner of Finance, Mr Timothy Odaah, lamented that the statutory allocation was getting smaller and smaller. "It appears this is the worst in terms of returns. This is the least in allocations as far as this year is concerned. We are mourning the dearth of funds and this is a wakeup call for states and local governments to buoy up their internally generated revenue."
While appreciating the "magnanimity" of President Goodluck Jonathan to approve the $1billion from the excess crude account and to be shared among the federal, state and local governments, Odaah expressed disappointment with the returns made by the NNPC.
He said that the states had requested for $2bn to complement for the shortfall in revenue but got only $1billion. In September, Odaah and fellow commissioners had walked out of the Accountant General of the Federation (AGF) when the federal government said that the framework of the 2013 budget was no longer realistic and it won't augment shortfall in revenue. Odaah raised issues with the statutory allocations of previous months.
More from: http://allafrica.com/stories/201311150323.html Now tell, if Jonathan was complaining of "revenue shortfalls" when crude was selling above $100 and declared only N568 billion in a month, how much would he have declared in a month to be shared when crude is selling at less less than a$30? |

obailala: Let me tell you a short story of what happened when the oil prices began to crash, just between October 2014 and May 2015 when GEJ handed over:
(1) The Naira fell from N166/167 to N220 to $1, meanwhile oil still sold at about $65/barrel as at May 2015. http://abokifx.com/previous-rates-2/
(2) The nation's foreign reserves dropped from ~$38.5bn to $28.7billion, that's a drop of about $10billion in 7 months, with oil still selling at about $65/barrel as at May 2015. http://www.cenbank.org/intops/Reserve.asp
(3) Nigeria's GDP growth rate which was maintained at an average of 6-7% suddenly dropped to its lowest since 1999 of 2.3%. http://www.tradingeconomics.com/nigeria/gdp-growth-annual
(4) Due to a severe cash crunch occasioned by fall in oil prices, the Nigerian government had to borrow about $2.4billion dollars early in 2015 to pay salaries. The FG could not also pay accumulated arrears of fuel subsidy since August 2014 to petroleum importers (this led to the fuel scarcity in May 2015 just before the handover and Lai Mohammed also blamed this owed fuel subsidy as the reason behind the fuel scarcity late last year) http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/05/nigeria-borrows-to-pay-salaries-with-cash-crunch-worsening/ http://www.channelstv.com/2015/12/21/lai-mohammed-blames-fuel-crisis-on-past-administration/
Note that all of the above happened at a time when oil still sold above $65/barrel; today oil sells for about $30/barrel
Now I do not want to imagine the kind of economic humanitarian crisis that would have enveloped Nigeria had GEJ continued in his usual manner of dipping his hands into the forex reserves; only God saved us as a nation else we would have been standing on long queues by now to receive one cup of rice daily from W.H.O or UN outlets.
Did I just hear you say continuity of those four (4) negative events I just pointed out above? Are you aware that the FG under Buhari has not borrowed to pay salaries? It even bailed out the states Are you aware the FG has paid off subsidy arrears owed to oil importers even since the days of GEJ? Are you aware the FG/CBN has been able to maintain virtually the same forex reserve amount that it inherited till date?... Unlike GEJ that crashed it by $10billion in 7 months of oil price crash? And now all these have been done when oil sells for less than half of what it was when GEJ was handing over and you think the present government is more useless?? I challenge you to tell me that these figures and indices I have written here are wrong, kindly explain to us your 'empirical' evidence. Few people earn my likes, i give you 2. This your post should be bookmarked and pasted anytime PDP/IPOB says Buhari destroyed Nigeria economy. If GEJ had won the elections, there would not even have been an economy talk less of destroying it. That Buhari was able to keep the Nigeria economy afloat with crude selling at less than $30/barrel, with low foreign reserve and savings is nothing short than a miracle. |

It added that the lower court curiously used a newspaper report to decide on criminal acts misconceiving the grounds of the appeal of the APC and its candidate. According to him, the law is settled that disenfranchisement must be proved polling unit by polling unit. The court also held that there was a wrong reliance on the petitioner witness number 48 by the lower court to decide that there was disenfranchisement of voters in 18 of the 32 local governments in Akwa Ibom State, even though the said witness admitted that he was not at his polling unit at the time of the polls. The court also held that the over generalization that there was anarchy in Akwa Ibom State during the polls was wrong because the Nigerian Police report of the polls largely contradicts that of the witnesses which were relied upon by the court. Justice Centus Nwaeze held that the two lower courts metamorphosed into an inquisitor forum shopping for schemishes even though there was no demonstration in court. The apex court held that the judgment by the tribunal and the appellate courts were not consistent with the law and are accordingly set aside.
Source According to the bolded quote, no governorship or presidential election can ever be annulled or cancelled by the supreme court. It will be impossible to prove irregularities in all polling units in a state or country within the stipulated time allowed by the tribunal to try the case. The cost of cost of calling witnesses from every polling unit will be huge. Petitioners and lawyers are wasting their time and money challenging governorship and presidential elections in Nigeria. |

IkennaNweke: he possibility of the Nigerian economy plunging into recession in 2016 is not in doubt, going by the poor economic policy direction of President Muhammadu Buhari. Professor Pat Utomi has maintained.
As crude oil prices dive lower, threatening to dip below $30 a barrel for the first time since the financial crisis of 2008, commodity economies around the world are catching a cold.
The collapse of oil price is already taking its toll on the Nigerian economy. As it stands, there is no light at the end of the tunnel yet. Nigeria’s situation is further worsened by the current government’s delay in enacting sound fiscal and monetary policies.
Investors across the world are losing their investments in stock and property owners are also suffering losses as a result of depreciation in currencies.
The Naira is currently under intense pressure, the situation has depleted Nigeria’s foreign exchange reserves, with policy makers now left with a difficult decision to make: either allow the currency to move in a wider range against the dollar or raise interest rates.
However, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Godwin Emefiele has promised to stabilize the Naira without devaluing the currency.
President Muhammadu Buhari has also backed the CBN’s monetary policies, which have raised questions about its sustainability.
Two former Central bank governors, have disapproved the current policies initiated under Buhari, aimed at amelioration the situation. They have both called for more flexibility in the management of the country’s currency. PDP is working overtime in its attempt to discredit this government. Instead of them to re-strategize and re-organize to prepare for the next election, they are spending all their energy on attacking Buhari. Now. where is the link where Prof. Pat Utomi said Buhari had Plunged the Nigerian economy into recession, please provide the source. As far as i am concerned the above statement is thge opinion of the OP and not that of Pat Utomi. FlyboyZee: Can you please read the topic again? To see if it was referring to either GEJ or Akpabio?
Thank me later... As a Petroleum Minister as far back as 1978, he had huge interests in foreign Hospitals, so why did the APC condemned the likes of Diezani Madueke and Senator Akpabio for showing interest in London Clinics in 2016? |

PDP/IPOB wailing capacity is beyond belief. They have the ability to wail over any and every issue concerning Buhari. They wail about his wife's wrist watch, they wail about te children's school, they wailing about his personal doctors. So Buhari cannot use doctors he had been using since 1978 because of wailers. The same wailers that have been wishing him dead. They have dashed Buhari all kinds of diseases like cancer, liver problems all sorts of diseases, intact the chief wailer predicts he will die before the swearing in ceremony.
meanwhile when their hero flies into London hospital to cure hangover, they were praisers then. When Akpabio went to the same London to cure sprained ankles, they became defenders then. They did not remind Jonathan to use the well funded aso rock clinic then. They forgot Akpabio built a world class hospital then.
Wailers were initially praisers who transformed to defenders. |

johnydon22: I am not paid to teach every di_ck and harry who choose to block their wits with nonsensical religious books science.
Let me help you well with a source from google
" In physics, gravitational waves are ripples in the curvature of spacetime which propagate as waves, travelling outward from the source. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gravitational_wave "
Now let this be the day you learn something new. Orbits are as a result in the distortion of space/time by mass of an object in relation to an even bigger body of mass.
Gravitational waves are ripples of space/time distortion travelling outward from the source of distortion basically blackholes.
Orbits don't travel in wave-like patterns outwardly distorting the fabrics of space/time with the speed of light.
You probably saw "curvature" of space/time and got excited..
Now next time you choose to dabble in such simpleton-like ideas make sure you read what your google source said well before rushing off to comment.
Desperation to defend this drunk interpretation from an even drunker book can only make you look daft.. Thank you my brother for the free education, if we have just up to 1000 youths like you in Nigeria with a few in position of authority Nigeria would be on a road to greatness. Our present youth waste away their lives in churches, mosques and shines. Their minds and mindset us permanently frozen in 1st century Palestine and 7th century Arabia. The OP thinks gravitational waves is the same thing as gravity. What a laugh. Just because existence of gravitational waves was confirmed a few days ago, ignorant religious fundamentalist quickly opened their holy books and twist irrelevant and unrelated texts to suit their warped understanding of the subject matter. |

tosinjay: The world needs it, everyone does. People like you who rejects Christ soon finds out by themselves. All shall leave this world some day. So your religion can only convince people by issuing threats and condemnation. Believe me such threats do not appeal to lots of people. |

ZombieNation: Is the army waging war on its citizens?
The US population is 350 million but they are scaling down on their army
China has come out to state that it will reduce its military force of 3 million to a million. This is China with over 1.5bn people
What logic other than to kill and intimidate your own citizenry warrants this foolishness?
With Nigeria heading for serious recession and bankruptcy how does the dullard hope to maintain such large force of men during peacetime?
The army is not designed for civilian policing but for existential and external threats.
Review our constitution and corporate unity since all conflicts in Nigeria stem from that weak document.
Nigeria's civil unrest are first and foremost politically induced and as such only sincere dialogue and not brute force can solve it.
They want full sharia in the north, I say let them have it.
The Niger Delta wants full resource control, then why not? After all its their oil
The Biafrans want a return to true republic. You hate them and are quick to attack then in your north. Grant them their autonomy and see if they will venture into your sharia enclave I agree with your point on a leaner and meaner military, but disagree on your dialogue proposals. Also try and make your points without so much anger and hatred. Due to the nature of the treats Nigeria faces, we need no more than 80,000 military personnel, 100,000 at most. what we need is modern hardware and training. Boko Haram fighters are no more than 5,000 ill trained but adequately equipped fighters. Believe me, a force of no more than 10,000 men (due to the large area of operation) with adequate weapons and air cover will wipe out boko Haram in a matter of 3 months. Ordinary hunters with dane guns were able to drive boko Haram out of some villages. Ditto for nigerdelta militants, a well equipped navy with adequate equipment would make minced meat of the militants. but the Nigeria navy rely on outdated gun boats donated by US to fight militants in the creeks. Now, about allowing Sharia. Allowing full Sharia as a state policy in any part of Nigeria is a recipe for disaster. When ever religion becomes a state policy, it leads to conflicts between religion and state. Most modern states are separating religion from state to ensure peace and stability. Resource control in the form of returning land ownership to original owners of resource rich land is the ideal and allowing the owners make decisions on how the their land is exploited. Agreed taxes to both the federal and state governments should then be negotiated and agreed on. Even this resource control can lead to disastrous consequences. The families, communities and tribes might war among themselves to gain control of resource rich lands. As an example, i have a large piece (over the150 hectares) of land that was under government acquisition and was in the process of being released to the original owners. Initially, it was only 3 families that was involved and had been processing the release for the past 10 year, anytime the final papers are to be signed another family would petition the FG claiming ownership of the said land. As of today 6 families are almost at war over the ownership of the land, and the land had not even been approved. Now imagine what would happen if there was oil on the land. Another contentious issue over resource control would be off-shore oil. How would of-shore resources be distributed? please not that our economic exclusive zone is proportional to the landmass, so without northern landmass, our exclusive economic zone would reduce. Cameroon would encroach on most oil fields belonging to Akwa Ibom and cross rivers state. |

HEFAIROHLUWA: Are you a machine? As in a machine without brains? U gave birth to a son and advised him against cultism in school. Did you give birth to a machine? Even if his father is a pastor that everyone respect that does not guarantee that the son will not be tempted to join in school. The son has to make the decision HIMSELF!!! who is now to be blamed?father or son despite the instructions and advise. The wages of sin is death( it says sin-not big sin /small sin) For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.
Why now blame God for the consequences of ur sins. If God had sent Jesus Christ immediately Adam and eve sinned u would have called him a liar about death after eating the fruit of eden.He gave a simple instruction for our own good and we couldnt obey due to the devil who he also was kind enough to allow free will .This shows how convincing the devil is. lol Keep it coming pal. So in effect you support the biblical law of stoning rebellious and stubborn children to death. Afterall, as you said, you cannot blame the fathers for te consequences of a rebellious child's sins. |
