Anytime fire occurs in any Lagos market, I noticed some insidious Ibos spread fake news via WhatsApp groups and more, falsely claiming the Yorubas did it. Those false posts are still on NL. Balogun market is NOT an Ibo owned market but one that was started by Yoruba whole sellers and retailers, then Ibos and others joined them in specific market sections. |

Obaaderemi2: Don't mind the idiot. Probably in his head 1979 came before 1953. They read something stupid on the internet and run with it without verifying. And it's shameful that a few of these functional illiterates trying to please the rapacious ibos by being politically correct and 'woke' are Yorubas. Or Maybe they're ibos masquerading under Yoruba names to ease their pains.
When Jakande used the term no-man's-land in 1979 was he referring to the 'present' or to Lagos State? He was talking about the time when in 1954 the British carved out Lagos island as a federal territory. A federal territory that wasn't governed by any of Nigeria's tribes.
Lagos island was under the federal government but ikeja, surulere and other parts that form Lagos State today were under the western region by 1958. So how is Lagos State a no-man's-land? And if Lagos island today is under Lagos State, then tell us how it is a no-man's-land. Nicely put. Indeed, it was the Ibo Union member and NCNC politician, Jaja Wachuku from the current Abia who is on record to have made that irresponsible statement in 1947 even before 1953 episode in the attached document. Many fake FB, Twitter and NL accounts claiming to Yoruba, Ijaw, Edo, Hausas, etc, have been created over many years by these toxic ethnic bigots. One of these young misogynistic creeps on NL lied that he is a "prince" from Lagos with a mother from Imo, and he engages in ethnic insults against male and female Yorubas, just to cover his real and full Ibo roots. No real prince and indigene of Lagos State would do that. |

Beadysworld: Lagos was first declared “A No Man’s Land” by former governor of the state, Lateef Jakande in his inaugural speech in 1979.
it was not an igboman that made that statement.
Read his full speech below. [Source Tinubu’s own TV, TVC news) – see paragraph six HIGHLIGHTED.
INAUGURAL ADDRESS OF GOVERNOR JAKANDE TO THE PEOPLE OF LAGOS STATE — 1ST OCTOBER, 1979.
FELLOW Citizens of Lagos State,
On Saturday, 28th, July 1979, you elected me, by 559,070 votes to 126,805, the first Executive Governor of Lagos State. Today, as a result of that election, the Chief Judge of this State, in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution of Nigeria, has invested me in the office. This is an inestimable honor of which I am very conscious. It is a call to service that I take very seriously in all humility. And I want to assure you that I shall spare no effort to justify the confidence which you, the good people of Lagos State, have demonstrably reposed in me.
God moves in a mysterious way, says William Cowper, His wonders to perform. His purposes will ripen fast, unfolding every hour.
The creation of Lagos State, like all great events, is not the achievement of one single person. The territory now known as Lagos State is the former Colony Province created by the British Administration for their own administrative convenience. Following the cession of his sovereignty to the British Crown by King Dosunmu in 1861, Eko was administered independently by a Governor of the Settlement of Lagos.
Under the Commission of 19th February-1866, the Settlement of Lagos was governed by an Administrator and a Legislative Council responsible to the Governor of the West African Settlements residing in Sierra Leone.
This continued until 1874. By Letters Patent dated 24th July 1874, the territory was administered by a Lieutenant Governor subject to the Governor of the Gold Coast read more here https://beadysworld.tv/2023/03/28/lagos-was-first-declared-a-no-mans-land-by-lateef-jakande-in-his-inaugural-speech-in-1979-share-this/ This is a highly misleading post! Your blogging career will not take off if you do NOT desist from posting half-truths and/or outright falsehoods on and off NL. It was the Ibo NCNC politicians who first made the ridiculous and highly irresponsible "no-mans land" comments about Lagos Island (not even the entire Lagos State) in a 1947 speech by Jaja Wachuku a member of the then Ibo Union. Then again in 1953. Period. |

Mynd44: This is false. It was in 1953 Nicely put @Mynd44. That NCNC politician and Ibo Union member from the Ngwa area of Abia, Jaja Wachuku was the first recorded Ibo person to give a highly irresponsible speech in 1947 falsely calling Lagos Island a so-called "no-man's land." The Lagos that those Ibo NCNC dudes were even refering to in the screenshot you attached as of that 1953 was Lagos Island, NOT the larger Lagos State of today which was only created on May 27, 1967 for the indigenes by General Yakubu Gowon's government. A total of 12 new states where created on that day (May 27,1967). The very provocative reference to the Awori-Yoruba owned Lagos (Island), the then administrative capital as a "no-mans land" in 1953 by the Ibo NCNC politicians was irresponsible and is part of the genesis of that false comment being made online and offline by a significant number of Ibos right till today. Cc: Nisai, thanks for sharing my post. Kindly read the first paragraph of my post to get the original culprit who started that falsehood in 1947.

Slimslimqq: After the news of the witnesses broke out that they died on the same day, other church members stepped back out of fear that they might be targeted.
When the commisioner of police heard about the latest development, he asked that our church be closed till my dad was fully well and ordered him to be moved away to an undisclosed hospital for further treatment.
few weeks after, Dad was feeling better, he was later told about everything that happened during is absence. he bursted into tears, and promised to send my step mom to jail.
He was later discharged from hospital, and was invited by the cp.
he narrated everything that happened in detail to the cp, his lawyer was with him and my grandfather lawyer also.
The cp ordered for my step mom arrest and her children.
they were later not charged to court after much pleas from families and church executives. the matter was died down.
But life never remained the same again..
few years after, though a lot has happened that I can't even remember.
Year 2010, she(step mom) lost one of her kids(male of 37years). She fell critically ill due to the death of her son.
She was taken to different hospitals which she was rejected due to her health issue. only God knows why she wasn't even responding to treatment.
Year 2011, dad was diagnosed with partial stroke, I had already finished my secondary school education same year.
Year 2012, she(step mom) was getting better after series of spiritual treatments in her hometown.
My mom had a spiritual attack, Yoruba call the attack "ofaa"..
after it was getting to delicate stages, my grandfather ordered we should bring her to ijebu to his spiritualist. that is were it was confirmed that it was a spiritual attack.
Then they did some sacrifice and spiritual stuffs for her. the spiritualist then warned that the person who sent the attack will die after 7 days...
lo and behold, on 7th day, my step mom was rushed down to our house.
she confessed to every crime that she has been doing from the death of Seyi to how she raped me and my mom attack and a lot of bad things she did.
She said if I want to make it in life, then I have to do some stuffs which I have done. that was because of the sex she forced me to do.
she was later rushed to the hospital, but died on their way...
there's no peace for the dead..
Who remembers few years ago(8-9 years), when a news broke out on internet that a a coffin fell from the hands of undertakers on her burial day? that was my step mom...
everyday I always hope there's hell, so that she can rot...
my dad later died year 2019(he was 75yrs)... may my mom live long to eat the fruit of her labor.
I pray God lifts me soon and bless me to take care of her..
this is my story...

Slimslimqq: so my mom called some church elders and my dad, she then went inside to bring out the drink my step mom gave to me and showed it to them that she suspecting that the drink was poisoned.
but everyone started shouting at my mom that what sort of allegation was that.
then my dad volunteered to take the drink so as to know if he was truly poisoned. but my step mom said no that he can't drink it, and giving filthy excuses.
Dad didn't listen to her, and drank it.
Lo and behold, few hours later, my dad started having running stomach, his skin color started changing to white.
There was pandemonium everywhere inside the church, everyone started running helter skelter. some youths in the church had to rush him to a nearby hospital, which he was rejected, and other hospitals around. my dad was 80% dead, meanwhile this woman(step mom) has the antidote with her.
She brought the antidote to the hospital and gave it to him. few minutes later, he became stable but still unconscious. he was later admitted and treated at a popular private hospital at Allen Ikeja.
Meanwhile, my step siblings were already in our house fighting my mom that she was the one who killed our dad(they thought he was dead).
they threw my mom luggage's and my own and sibling out, no one could stop them, only my dad who was half dead In the hospital.
my mom then took me and my sibling to a nearby police station to report the case.
meanwhile one of my step sibling is dating a police officer at the station. so he has heard about everything, so this officer had to change the whole report and roped my mom, that she attempted to kill my dad.
my mom was detained, and my brother and I were left outside.
when the church members heard what happened to my mom, they quickly came down to the station to explain what happened and even told them that my dad is not dead, but the officer in charge didn't listen, only my dad can save mom from this mess, though the officer thought he was dead not until he was told that he's still alive.
so the church members took my brother and I back to church, while my mom was left in station.
they told us to get a good lawyer...
meanwhile my maternal grandfather, is a very influential person in the society. so one of the members advised that a delegate be sent to him that his daughter has been detained at the police station about a crime she doesn't know about.
When my grandfather heard what happened, he had to call the assistant commissioner of police then, and explained to him.
My grandfather then threatened to jail every one of my step siblings and their mother after my mom as been released.
the matter got to the table of commissioner of police, because my grandfather took the case up. meanwhile my dad was still in hospital.
The commissioner of police then called for the witness(church members) to come testify about the whole issue...
Two of the members perished a day before they will go and meet the c.p.
a true life story.......

casualobserver: Please stop this issue of rigging, with BVAS it is impossible to rig to make any meaningful impact.
The most you can do now is disrupt an election isn an area where your opponent is strong or over-vote so that elections there are cancelled. How many Pus can you successfully do that? Of the 13,000 PUs in Lagos only 300 had any issues, that’s less than 2%. For all the noise you hear about rigging in Lagos 2% does not affect the outcome. The biggest evidence that rigging is no longer possible is if you look at the numbers in Borno, Delta and Rivers. These are states that used to declared numbers in the millions, none of them saw 600k.
People will tell you about voter intimidation etc, the reality is you can only intimidate in your stronghold, places where even if you allow your opponents to vote freely they won’t make a difference. For instance APC cannot intimidate voters in Anambra, just like there is only so much intimidation you can do in Festac, Amuwo etc. In somewhere like Anambra even if APC supporters were allowed to vote freely, how many votes can APC get in Anambra? Some of the gra gra we see during elections are just gra gra of emotional people that don’t engage their brains. They don’t affect outcome.
This was the most credible election since independence!!!! It’s a pity some people want to delegitimize and tarnish it because they lost.
I have voted in the Uk before trust me it is easier to rig In The Uk than Nigeria. In the Uk anybody on the voters register is eligible to vote and is sent a card for Election Day. That card is all that is asked from you at the PU, no ID, no nothing. To be on the voters register you don’t need ID, You can put as many names including fake names on the register as you like and you can register in multiple if you like. I can sit down in Nigeria and register fake names on the voters register in the Uk online. Many people are also registered on the voters register at multiple addresses. Because the credit system works on the voters register so once your credit is bad you just register at another address and rebuild your credit but a consequence of that is you can vote at multiple places simultaneously. These same people will come here and be telling us about democracy and credibility. Deep insights. |

I have been a veteran member of NL for 18 years now with another NL account, and I belong to an older generation which used IBO in ALL our daily interactions, school books and in newspapers and other publications. I have newspapers published after the year 2000 in my archives that used the spelling IBO. It was after the year 2000 that we started seeing the other "Igbo" spelling, but I'm used to USING the spelling IBO. NOTHING DEROGATORY HERE. I assume you are younger in age and this is the reason why you do NOT realise these historical FACTS. The recent Oxford Advanced Learners Dictionary also still uses "Ibo" as an alternate to Igbo. IBO is the STANDARD Anglicised format still used in publications today, so, you have to update your knowledge there. Even in Chinua Achebe's books that we read back in the day, IBO was used even right up to those published around the year 2000. If it was wrong to use the spelling IBO, many of your kinsmen and Achebe would have bluntly refused to have the spelling "Ibo" in all their literature books of the late 1800s/early1900s till after the year 2000. This was disclosed in a news release posted on Bento Africa’s website yesterday.
This came after Tech Cabal launched an avalanche against toxic bosses with a story on Ebunoluwa Okunbanjo, the CEO of tech start-up, Bento Africa.
The crackdown on Ebun was a result of alleged verbal abuse, which included unconscionable curse words, refusal to grant leave and time off, erratic termination of appointment without due process – essentially just deactivating their emails and Slack accounts.

Mom007: You have just stumbled on my point exactly, congratulations! You have a brain after all. I mean, it took some time, and a little prodding but you got it eventually. Banking jobs are already stressful enough with a lot of distractions and temptations without them having to also be carrying around the fear of being sacked and denied benefits. That is why a lot of them are into criminal activities and fraud. Mind you, 'having something to do on the side' as you have so casually put it is also fraud. Your employer is paying you for your undivided attention, not for you to use their time to run your own private gig. These unhealthy terminations are pushing people into dishonesty and outright crime. So many of them are duping their employers of huge sums of money and using it to travel out these days because of no job security. You are sounding so smug and superior now because one desperate and dubious bank worker has not cleared your account and left you stranded. Until it happens to you before you know that bankers lives also matters. Abi have you not read posts here of people crying and displaying in banking halls? Who do you think stole those monies? Outsiders? Nope... Inside job! Keep quiet next time if you cannot add value to a topic. Mom007, its great you started this thread to externalize your thoughts about workplace toxicity at Access. This thread obviously explains why many hugely embarassing failed Access Bank online bank transfers have been recorded by their customers and non-customers who reported not receiving large sums of money from their business clients! The folks who originally started the bank came from the elite staff of Fola Adeola's GTB, and the Access that clients and folks knew from back in the day has hit some stormy operational waters. I assume the defunct Diamond Bank they acquired not long ago may have contributed to accelerating the staff sacking rot which you say started 7 to 8 years ago. I wish you and your spouse more creative energy to see the career, investment and business opportunities... and overcome the challenges here. |
