Your comment was quite a lot to take in, you point Ikwerre's Igbo denial as a means of survival and you also pointed out how years ago Igbo people would have applauded the OP's posts.

A lot has changed, Ikwerre has crossed that line of rubi-coin, no proud Igbo man wants them back to the Igbo fold which I believe is great news to majority of them. Furthermore it would be a great thing of joy if their language, names and culture has nothing in resemblance to Ndi Igbo, this I believe will save a lot of stress and help discouraged the ones that haven't really gotten the hang of things to finally let them be.

From some of your posts I understand that you a from Rivers state but I have to ask you even though most nairalanders seems to love to avoid this question, what's the name your tribe and the story of your friend who is a surveyor when did it happen and we're you present?
I am an ogoni Man. In order to remain anonymous I cant divulge that much information about myself, But ofcourse the events described are not unusual in Ph. If you live you will meet alot of Ikwerre people who have no issues with an igbo identity, But as I said, the ones with an issue with igbo identity are the loudest, and most aggressive.

A lot of igbo people are quick to point out what Gov. Wike said, But are quick to forget What Amaechi said...Such is life!

Listen its not for me (or you) Or Wike to designate Ikwerre People as igbo or not, Although their "accurate" history clearly points to them being igbo, All I was doing was encouraging the likes of OP who appears to be of the ikwerre stock that have no issue with igbo identity to be more out spoken, in order to properly counter the attempt of those who have been lying about Ikwerre history for personal gains.

Igbo land is the last region that can ever fall to terrorists especially the ones that has anything to do with Islam.

Igbo land is 99% christians, unlike other regions with significant amount of Muslims
History has it that Ebira people used to be more igboic than they are now. They were conquered. The TIVs and other Benue clans are responsible for the reason why Usman dan Fodio couldnt make it down south to igboland.

Modern Warfare is won by weaponry and training not by guts, or numbers. Just saying the igbo people will stop a northern invasion is unrealistic, how they suppose to fight when as a people they are disarmed in Nigeria. As supposed to stop the invasion with sticks and stones.

Read my previous post to understand my point. That Islamic future that the OP is describing will not just happen as a surprise it will slowly build up, and and rudiments to make that future easy is already in place in nigeria. I think it will happen. Nigeria will first of be declared an islamic country.
PoliticsRe: What's The Future Of Southern Nigeria If The North Falls To Terrorists by Xbobtage:
I agree with you, that the trajectory of this country is one where the Bokoharam/ISIS gain enough momentum where they can over power the nigerian Army or start power Sharing. Anyone who is not already understanding/accepting the realism of this is not a deep thinker.

Shekau has always been clear, Bokoharam's mission is to erase western education and bring ALL of nigeria under islamic Rule, This is their long term Goal and mission.

The group has gone very far from being splinter cells of a terror group to a Juggernaut that now controls large swats of territory in many . northern states, in partnership with ISIS which already is a sort of a Quasi government in Libya, Iraq and somalia. In other words its not wrong to say that Bokoharam is Backed by governments - People with infinite sources of money from Oil and taxes imposed on people living in the territories they currently control.

For you to understand the mindset of a typical bokoharam supporter, You have to understand that the Bokoharam fighters are fighting for what is right according to the Quran, they believe that by converting you to Islam they are helping you and your children unborn to save their souls to make it to the Kingdom of God. And they believe they are also doing this to Gain Favor in the Eyes of God. How can you stop a people with this type of resolve.

Any true muslim knows and believes that what Bokoharam is fighting for is right by the words of Allah,(although, they may not like How Bokoharam is going about trying to Achieve thier Agenda).

So how can Bokoharam fighters defeat the nigerian Military and overwhelm the north? Its happening before our eyes.

* The nigerian Military already is currently rehabilitating BH fighters and putting them in the military, if you remember that this is an Ideology, then you can understand that a Bokoharam fighter can never change.
* The Nigerian Military is Primarily based off the North of Nigeria. Armory, Training facilities, Planes, Jet fighters all domiciled in the north.
* There are more Muslims as top commanders and as foot soldiers in all of the three nigerian Military and even police. That explains the Arabic written words on the nigerian Army's Emblem, if truly Nigeria was a secular country or one that respects the existence of the christian populace, those words in Arabic wouldnt be there)

So all you need is a Military Chief of staff that shares the same ideals as bokoharam and is balsy enough to make a move, and boom, Non muslim top members of the military would be arrested, others would flee the country, foot soldiers who are unwilling to comply would be killed or also arrested and there you have it, the nigerian military machine is in the hands of Bokoharam, then they would start taking cities as you saw the taliban doing, those who accept islam would be spared, ISIS did the same in iraq and syria in 2015 or so i guess. That being the case, no southern state, stands a fighting chance, People who accept islam might be offered large benefits and believe it or not, that would cause alot of communities to convert, the same way a lot communities were made to renounce their ethnicity during the Biafran war. They could also start using political undertones to set the stone for a soft landing, pushing words like Afterall christianity and Islam are the same or its the only way for the party to win elections because the muslims are the only ones willing to vote. And thesame type of people you see defending bad politicians here on nairaland because of tribe and political party will be here to spin it and flip it so it doesnt come off as bad as its suppose to sound...with hundreds of likes on their post to make you believe that a lot of people are in support of the ideology.

Also, It may not be the all out aggressive way that you are thinking, it might be sort of systematic. They may look for a soft landing initially by saying something like after going through census, its clear that the muslim population of nigeria is now more than 60% and that they have declare that nigeria is now a muslim state just like malaysia, churches would now need special permissions to function. Then, slowly, slowly eat into every fabric of your daily life, until it becomes illegal to be anything but a "true practising Muslim", it was done in Iran in the 1940s.

If you think its impossible to have a radicalized muslim in a top military position, you should remember your current minister of communication who has professed his love for the ways of Bokoharam(Alqeada), If you can have that as an aid to the president, then anything is possible.

EmmaJnr1:
Stop insulting Yoruba people with the word afonja. We are one...Stop that nonsense except u are a Fulani pretending to be Igbo. Again Ikwerre is Igbo and we move together....
OP I can see that you are an Ikwerre man (Ammeka O!), Alot of the people posting think you an Igbo man still trying to grab ikwerreland. A few years ago on this same Nairaland, if you had made a thread like this you would have had so many pages of other igbo people praising you and appreciating your efforts to connect your clan to other igbos, but imagine how quickly public opinions can change.

I am here to encourage your efforts to refuse politicians or disgruntled elements to alter your peoples history. A people without a history or perhaps a completely false history is like a being without a soul.

Politicians in high places seem to misunderstand that their power is beyond the physical or the present, they are in a position to alter the lives of Generations of unborn, by their actions or choice of words.

Gov Wikes words unknown to him has made him in the present a baggage for PDP, because they could have simply branded him the igbo man from Rivers State, and that would have easily made him a viable option for President or Vice. But right now, at this moment in Nigerias history, Claiming he is a minority from the SS and wanting to take the no.1 or no.2 position in the country is making him more or less of a stumbling block for the party that he has done so much for.

Ikwerre Politicians who followed the Path Wike is following ended up sounding remorseful at Old age, because once you are done lying to achieve your ambitions, once you start to feel like time is not on your side and you might meet your maker soon, you start to remember all the damage to the lives of people left behind. Elechi Amadi, And Obi Wali made u turns from their original anti igbo stands before their deaths, but sadly both of them started a trend that is now really difficult to reverse coupled with the fact that the nigerian government rewarded them heavily. That opened the eyes of many indigenous igbo clans.

Everyone who is old enough in Rivers State knows that the Benin origin story is Nonsense. In the early 80s ikwerre youths used to hustle side by side in Most markets amongst their igbo brethren in places like D line, etc. tbut today try to tell the Ikwerre youths who are sitting idle and doing nothing at home to go to ikokwu and learn one or two things, in go ask you wether I be isoma?, They would rather stand on the road and oppress keke for community Levi. you see how the youths have been plucked out from a postive pattern by simple lies from politicians.

Before we start judging these politicians, its reasonable to argue that they had tto rremove tthe IIgbo labelfor survival purposes, otherwise Ikwerres would have never had a voice in Rivers State, and Rivers As we know it would have never been created. Besides the issue of igbo Identity Ikwerre people do not have issues with the rest of igboland, they prefer to marry igbo women and are happy when their daughter bring back igbo husbands

As we can see in one of the videos here, the people from Igwuruta, were complaining that they are igbo people and they are threatened to be killed by the other people in Rivers State, Go to Igwuruta today and ask if the people are aware that they igbo people and watch confused faces respond. I have heard someone from Igwuruta arguing that the people that are igbo people in igwuruta are Osu people who arrived in the early 1900s.

What most nairalanders or nigerians who are not conversant with Ikwerre and Rivers State wouldnt know is that the whole I no be Ibo amongst ikwerre people was not something an Ikwerre person would say aggressively or with so much pride until recently since the late 90s.
Politicians, fear of persecution and bullying from non igbo clans in Rivers State has further encouraged these behaviours.

From observation, there are three types of Ikwerre people, there are those who know and would say that they are igbo people regardless of location or occassion, I will estimate them at 20%, then there are those who have learned to get offended/aggressive when called igbo that I would estimate at around 35%, then there is a group that doesnt understand why anybody would have an issue being labelled or not being labelled igbo or ikwerre, and why all the fuss about this afterall nobody is paying anyone to be Ikwerre or Igbo.

The fact that the first group is very quiet and not out spoken is the reason why the second group is the loudest and most heard, And the fact that no one is benefitting anything directly from being igbo or not is why the 3rd group are non chalant. Because actually there are some sort of benefits/incentives to coming off as a non igbo man in the niger delta, You can head oil ministries without loud cries that igbo people are taking away all the oil money, you can represent non igboic tribes in rivers state on important political issues without anyone saying igbo people are ruling them. etc I am trying to humanize the plight of Ikwerre people and how it got this far, so that those igbo people who are feeling offended can rationalize issues. Any other igbo clan could have been in the same situation.

A friend of mine who is a surveyor from Rumuokoro Area an Ikwerre man, while having family meeting with the family members about an igbo tenant, told the family to take it easy with the young man, saying after all, he is igbo like them...That sentence almost started a war, the family was split into two sides, with the i am not an igbo man asking for the head of his cousin because of that sentence, But that same dday healso learned that some members of his own family were pro igbo and ready to fight off anyone trying to intimidate them because of their views.

My input on this Ikwerre issue is from a Sentimental point of view as a Rivers Man, grew up in Ikwerreland, my best friends and inlaws are Ikwerre people, I have these conversations with people in real life as well.

At OP pro Igbo Ikwerre men like you need to bemore out spoken, you know your history, have these conversations with fellow ikwerres show them these video proofs and accurate history arguments that you have, For this damage to be Undone, the learned ones who know the accurate history need to take charge, Fight for the soul of your people, the current Governor has practically said that Ikwerre are not from Rivers State and are from Benin, so that means the people came to Rivers State and took igbo lands, language and culture. While this is a lie, it is a valid arguement for future generations to use in any court , like is being done to the Palestinians.

My friend, yes there is nothing wrong about wearing a shirt saying anything, but as long as your right to do or say anything you want does not infringe on my right. They went to a church and intentionally use that as the stage to express their right or displeasure. In so doing, they are infringing on other worshippers right to worship God purely without any motive whatsoever.

As I said, they should have tried that, or better yet can still try to do that in a mosque and we will see if they will still be alive to run their mouth like a tap water.
They were not campaigning in the church, they simply wore the church and went to the alter when the pastor asked people to come for prayers. If their shirts were not liked, simply escorting them out of the church would have been good enough. Whether church or mosque, the high handedness here was uncalled for and wrong regardless of how it is looked at.

Subjecting them to weeks of tortue in DSS cell, filled with bokoharam detainees is completely wrong. I am sure you'd understand if that person was your family member.

They cannot carry out such nefarious act in a mosque, they would have been skinned alive. But they took advantage of the Christian belief to perpetuate this criminal offence.
There is nothing wrong about putting on a shirt that says buhari must go anywhere in Nigeria. We are supposed to be in a Democracy where you are supposed to be able to criticize the President and other elected officials.

It all sounds like we are talking about North Korea all of a sudden. The democratic gains which should have been growing on the current young generation right now has been sent a generation backwards by this regime.

PoliticsRe: Sports And Politics Proves Igbos Team Inspired While Yorubas Are Individualistic by Xbobtage: 1:05am On Aug 09, 2021
at OP, You couldnt be anymore wrong about your assumptions about igbo people.

Yorubas excel as individuals and are also known to come together as a team to solve a problem.

Whilst the igbo people seem to genetically have a problem with working together as a group, igbo people are way too individualistic to come together to form a unified working group. Because the igbo people are extremely goal oriented and coupled with the fact that the people had to work twice as hard to survive Nigeria is why you see them exceling and also clinging together in major markets across nigeria. Their knack for profit taking can briefly unify them for collection of profits but once that is done, then whatever team that existed ceases.

The people who speak igbo dialects and bear igbo names are the only group of people that I have heard of that have issues being called igbo. Most of these people knowing fully that most people would first identify them as igbo because of their name/accent would automatically get offended and prefer to be known as person from so-so village/clan, ditching the igbo tag, regardless of the overall harm that it does to all igbo/igboic people.

So please, if there is anything igbo people need their ohaneze to be doing. its to help teach them how to work as an unshakable team.

On final note you people need to stop comparing igbo with yoruba, the only thing they have in common stats wise might be population. Comparing both tribes is like comparing two athletes running for a marathon, one was properly fed with the best of healthy foods, has the best shoes, and given the priviledge to start racing a day earlier while the other athlete is running without shoes, was beaten and has a broken ankle.

The advantage of having lagos in yoruba land is enough to keep the yorubas light years ahead of other nigerian tribes. To compare both tribes you should have a city like lagos in the SE first, and we arent talking about the fact that the igbos were killed by the millions during the civil war and had their property seized and stolen, have had their natural resources given to nearby states with the federal govt completely refusing to tap natural resources within the SE on a commercial level, and YET STILL and STILL, it feels like the igbos are neck and neck with the Yorubas when compared side by side.

Without bias, let us appreciate our igbo brothers, the people are too resilient, una dey try. But una Me Me Me attitude is not helping you guys.

Is this thread talking about the population of all the ethnic groups who are signatories to the IYC or the population of Ijaw (Izon) people? There is a big difference between the two. I think there was an article with the Governor or Bayelsa trying to explain the difference between those two to the public.

I remember reading news in late 80s and early 90s as young child, hoping that and truly believing that this country would lead this continent in all facets of development. Our diversity can bring us friends and allies from the rich christian and muslim counties, Our size, our rich mixture of God given natural sources and the obvious fact that nigerians are die hard hustlers.

But the truth is when common sense and selflessness evades a large group of the population, then the county holds no future.

For every non homogeneous country to thrive, it should be understood to be a working relationship between tribes. No relationship of any kind can work if all parties involved do not see themselves as equals working for their collective good.

Our biggest problem right now is that Nigerians do not believe in the country itself, there is no patriotism, that alone breeds corruption, which breeds poverty, which breeds insecurity. It all falls from there.

We need to make the first step in the right direction, promoting a president from anything besides an Igbo person is completely wrong. That means we are truly not yet serious about nation Building.

We can not be attempting to subjugate a major nigerian tribe and expect that this country would move forward. The deep distrust in Nigeria by the igbo people is rubbing off on a lot of other southern and North central tribes. These other non igbo people here in the south may not be pro igbo, but they are being corrupted by the lack of patriotism that is coming from the SE, and this is crippling us all.

We have to RIGHT this wrong, And with all that has happened the past decade it appears 2023 could be our breaking point if the wrong steps are taken again.

We can fix this, we have everything it takes to be that great country, we must first make the people within the walls of this country believe in it, we can not do that by continuously sideling a major tribe.

Those people promoting Osibanjo are truly the enemies within. If the current VP was truly an Upright man, probably he would have quit the job, and stated his reasons, all things considered. To keep mum or rather re-echoing words of Bad Politicians tells us everything we need to know about him.

I also don't understand why they do this, I will say a few, a few Igbos on Nairaland want to appropriate, annex Ijaw states, Ijaw people etc to Igbo.

Look many of you are not good students of history or you were taught wrong things so I will just point you in the right direction, I won't tell you what to think.

But I want to assure you with all honesty and sincerity, ijaw people (I am an ijaw man both from my father and my mother and I am from one of the royal families in ijaw land)
So I know what I am saying, Ijaw people do not hate Igbos, we do not hate yorubas, we do not hate anyone, and we try as much as possible from what I perceive and what I can tell, we try our best to avoid conflict, remember when others where saying if their tribe doesn't get this or that doesn't happen baboon blood will spill, our person said my election is not worth anybody's life. That is just one example.

However the calmness of the crocodile is not weakness, why do I say all these?

People do not seem to know that by number of states and by population the ijaw tribe is amongst the top 3 and top 4 tribe respectively

Because we don't make noise or hurl insults online to stir ethnic or tribe conflicts doesn't mean we are not in Nigeria or we can't do it. We just refuse to do it.

I do not think it is wise or fair for some Igbo people on Nairaland to keep claiming ijaws are these and that, we see all the insults targeted at us especially and even almost exclusively from the Igbos, I've never met an Hausa or Fulani man both online or offline who was insulting of ijaws. Many ijaws have lived peacefully with yorubas for so long you can't even tell the difference now,
In ajegunle and environs in the 60's and 70's there were large ijaw settlements or enclaves or however you want to call them, there are also large numbers of ijaws in some Yoruba states even some ijaws in ijaw states bear Yoruba names, many can speak Yoruba my mom speaks Yoruba and she's from Bayelsa, her half brothers are named taiye, kehinde etc Yoruba names.

But the yorubas have never one day come online to claim ijaw people are Yoruba, some ijaw or many ijaws largely agree through oral history that ijaws came from Bini but even the Bini people have NEVER one day said we are lesser than them or their subjects or any of that or we must fight their battle or must support them.

But online no week passes without some form of name calling, tribalism etc being flung at us from the Igbos and Most times it goes unreplied read the topics here on Nairaland that has to do with anything concerning ijaws. It is not as If we are not on Nairaland, it is not as if we don't see them or read them. We just chose not to reply.

But it has graduated to the level of propaganda and this is why I needed to post this, because in the future some of them will claim "if the ijaws were not or are not Igbos why did they kept quiet" their children may say " if your parents weren't Igbos why didn't they reply when my parents claimed they were Igbos" so this is the post saying WE THE IJAWS ARE NOT IGBOS.

what do I mean? Some Igbos online are now claiming all ijaws or most ijaws are Igbos, firstly, na by force?

Secondly in what way are we Igbos? We don't speak same language most of us do not share a common ancestor or history, during the Biafra war you renamed some places to Igbo names and claimed they had always been like that as if we don't have history, I want you to read Mary Henrietta Kingsley's book on West African History read the part on Nigeria and the Kalabari people or new Calabar people as they were called then, see if you can find ONE, just ONE Igbo name, also we have been bearing Portuguese names and naming our places Portuguese and English names since 1700's does that mean we are Portuguese or English? till today Port Harcourt is named after Harcourt, Bishop Bara heart, Braithwaith memorial, Forcados, even the ijaws you know off from wayyyy back their names where Isaac, George, Melford, Graham, West and so on.

Thirdly you forget we where once clumped under eastern region and we agitated to leave for certain reasons, go and read history about the creation of old rivers state and maybe you'll understand, Northerners didn't create rivers state for no reason or because they wanted to, We Rivers people, ijaw people wanted our own state, because according to those who were alive then and who moved for it, Eastern Region which the Igbos were a part of became Igbo, I don't think you understand that, everything good that came to eastern region was centered in Owerri, Enugu or any other exclusively Igbo town, rails, govmt buildings, anything, port Harcourt was in existence but nothing came that way all other old cities of other tribes were in existence but attention was not given to them, and there was serious nepotism.

This led to people like Melford okilo and co. Pressuring Gowon for a state,

Even when it comes to cessation from Nigeria don't forget Niger Delta Republic was declared on February 23, 1966 and they fought with federal forces before being defeated. Isaac Boro and his comrades were jailed for treason by Ojukwu and co. Ojukwu fought for Nigeria against the NDR only to turn back barely 3 years later and try to force us into Biafra, without even a sorry oh, you guys were right then. He just woke up and added us to battle and think we will fight for him just like that, Let us fight under Biafra and gain independence under Biafra Lol. A Biafra whose identity is so igbolised, igboitic. From there god to currency to flag to everything that is not a country in which an ijaw man will thrive, it will be frying pan to fire.

I as a person I am not against Biafra if you want it Goodluck to you left for me I would allow the refrendum, what I disagree with is your manner of trying to forcefully coerce others into your Biafra, you want freedom from Nigeria but you don't want to respect freedom of Niger Delta from Igbos?

Port Harcourt is the most free, most open, most accepting city in all of Nigeria. Yes! I've been to all big cities they usually speak Igbo(Enugu, Owerri), Yoruba (Lagos) or Hausa (Kano, Abuja) but in Port Harcourt English is the default, it is the language you are expectes or assumed to speak.

In Owerri and Enugu people expected me to speak Igbo, when I went to buy something the seller spoke Igbo to me, in Kano the bus drivers many spoke ONLY Hausa not even pidgin English, in Lagos along the conversation you'll just hear the speaker burst into rants in Yoruba and leave you lost in translation.

There are alot of Igbo people especially from imo in port Harcourt, but there are also many Akwa ibom people, many yorubas and people from everywhere else, we have our own problems like everyone else, we don't deny it. But insulting us trying to get us agitated will not help you in any way at all.

You want us to hate the hausa's but it is you dragging our land, it is you selling things to us 2 times the price because we are not Nwokem

You only want us not because you love us or you want the best for us or because we are brothers or anything like that but merely because you want numbers when you want to fight Hausa people or Yoruba people.

You claim we migrated from Ghana, Sierra Leone etc, lol we haven't denied it and we are not saying it's impossible but didn't you also migrate from somewhere to wherever you are today? Dont you claim to come from Israel? So if that's true it means even the land under your feet should be taken from you.

Also you are not doing yourself any good by fighting everybody, insulting everybody, everybody knows nothing only you knows everything, only you is smart everyone else is dumb. You are fighting yourself into a corner a corner that will keep reducing as you fight away everyone who can possibly help you.

I will continue to advocate that ijaws do not fall for the trap of becoming hateful people, we should keep following peace with all men and holiness without which no man shall see God.
We should remain accommodating that's why people say Ijaw people don't travel, travel to where when PH, Yenagoa, and other Niger Delta states are the most accommodating? No religious, ethnic, language intolerance, no cheating you because you are not my brother or you can't speak my language.

Finally if you are interested in knowing where most ijaw people stand on breaking the country called Nigeria.
It's one of three things
1. No, don't break it.
2. Southern Nigeria (which will include Yoruba and Igbo regions)
3. Niger Delta Republic.

No Biafra that's not even an option except for a few hungry irrelevant people or just social media noise by one or two people with multiple accounts.

Why those 3 options? Because Nigerian politicians are the same, just greedy people interested in Thier pocket breaking Away from Nigeria will not stop the likes of Wike, godswill akpabio etc from doing their evil deeds and ruling badly. If an ijaw man becomes president or not it will not affect me personally. If an Igbo Ann becomes president it will not affect you personally, the north have been president for so long yet the ordinary northerners have very little or nothing to show for it.

We are not Igbos we are a distinct separate entity with different language, culture, dressing, history, delicacies, oral traditions, value system etc

We left the eastern region for a reason and wouldn't want to go back to that arrangement ever again we either remain alone or if we have to stay with the Igbos then Yoruba people, Tiv people INFACT all the middle belt and south west will be in that union. To counter balance each other, minimise bigotry, tribalism and so on.

That we are not exactly the same doesn't mean we cannot work together for the betterment of human life.

Thank you
Stay in love
You have allowed the trolls from Nairaland to get to you, you should already know that most of the people posting here are not really who they claim to be, but rather here to misrepresent and mislead other nigerians, this might be true for yourself as well. But I would like to react to your post on face value and respond constructively.

Assuming you are truly from Rivers State, then you are my Brother, I would assume it to be Okrika as that is the strongest Pro-ijaw clan in our state. After glancing through some of your previous post and noticed you never deemed it necessary to say anything about the recently passed PIB bill, It becomes difficult to understand why you invested so much energy in posting this thread, you have now set up the great ijaw tribe to be insulted by the usual nairaland insult posters. For what reason? that ijaws are not igbos? Even though as an ardent reader of nairaland for almost 10 years I will say its hard to come across a single comment claiming ijaws are igbos, although I agree I have met some uneducated people in real life who would make such dumb insinuations even though they made it in good faith (but it appears even those people are too dumb to even sign up on nairaland as we hardly see such comments here)

But can we blame some people who might confuse the two tribes when some "supposed" ijaw territory is purely igbo speaking (like Bonny), is there any igbo territory that currently speaks ijaw in the south east? I am sure not!

And on a side note Why have all the niger delta producing areas in the country gone shocking mute after this new PIB bill? Have we all been paid off?

Listen, the problem I have with your write up is that after you have claimed that the igbo people are trying to force everyone to be igbo and be in Biafra, you go ahead to make it sound as if Ijaw is niger delta, and niger delta is ijaw and as if Rivers State is Ijawland, I am a Riversman but I am definitely not an Ijaw man and Rivers state is not Ijawland. How can you accuse the igbo people of one thing and be doing it in the same sentence. Ijaw people have allowed their strange competition with igbo people to leave a bad taste (about the minority tribes in SS ) in the eyes igbos who are trying to reach out. How can ijaw people fewer than 2.5million be in competition with people who over 50 million?

All of these madness is why some of us are speaking out so that people do not think we have all gone mad. Our people need alliances right now not burning bridges, if the ijaws believe they are big enough to form a country of their own, and do not give a damn who they poke then stop lumping everyone in the niger delta in your sentences, and ruining it for those of us who want to maintain age old alliances.

Please next time you want speak, speak for your people so that everyone can be sure who is making these sentences. Thank you!

Well in same spirit of survival strategy.
When jungle mature, this current Igbo generation will also use Ikwerre and minorities to play our our survival game.
And we will be so ruthless about it, that even the devil will be amazed.

We just hope when the time comes, you all understand and bear with us, afterall, it's all done in same spirit of survival mode.

Thank you.

My young friend, you are entitled to your own opinion, this is a faceless forum, we dont really know who you are or what interests you are pursuing on this site but know this. If this country were to disintegrate, then people of old East with shared ancestary and common goals will come together for nation building, a nation where hate speech like yours will be a crime, and a site like nairaland will never be allowed to exist.

Remain Blessed!
Music/RadioRe: Billboard Called Wizkid Songs “Yoruba Music” On Their Official Twitter Page by Xbobtage:
Nairaland is here to put the final nail on the coffin for Nigeria with all these tribalistic news on the front page.

Remember that for Wizkid to survive as an Artist he needs all nigerians to buy his music and attend his shows, when you make this a tribal win for yorubas, you are de-marketing these artist to other nigerian tribes. This is how the full grip of nigerian Movies went out of the hand of the igbos, by making it look like it was a fully igbo thing. it created the need for fully yoruba movies.

Unlike sports icons or other genres music artists needs everyones support to thrive. Please nigerians do not always tribalize issues, we will continue to choke ourselves with this behavior and stunt our growth.

I agree with you, everything about Ikwerres points them to the igboid family, but for political reasons your people the Ikwerres are denying trying to rewrite history pointing themselves to the bini kingdom, they think they are hurting the igbos by doing that but they are doing damage to the little that is left of the Ikwerre history, people like wike came out to repeat the Statment of Ikwerres migrated from bini it's funny
I am a Riversman, I am not an Ikwerre man. I believe the Ikwerre peoples quest for a new political identity separate from south east igbos makes sense when looked at from the context of rivers state affairs, because the other non igboic tribes were weary of being dominated by igbo people, If the ikwerre people had wrapped themselves with igbo cloth and igbo pride, then the peaceful co existense between them and other minority tribes in rivers state would not have been possible.

Atleast now we can all call ourselves rivers people, as if it were to be a tribe, and one thing we all have in common is that we do not want to be called igbo people as people have been doing to most south south tribes for centuries simply because their grandparents understood igbo. Although there some rivers igbos who have no problem with their igbo identity like the etches, omuma, and oyigbo people. But these are smaller clans and they can afford to do that without creating any imbalance within the state.

Also since also the fulani led nigerian government wanted to stifle the igbo tribe, if the ikwerres stood by their igbo identity then I can assure you all of igbo people would have suffered it. Igbo people have massively benefited from the massive federal presence in Rivers State, If the Ikwerre people had embraced igbo identity, when bayelsa state was being created, I am sure the riverine non igboic tribes of rivers state would have opted to join bayelsa and the government of the day being anti igbo would have granted it and ikwerres and other igboic clans in River state would have been left to form a state, and the oil sector within that state wouldhave been abandoned like the federal government has abandoned oil activity in the south east, and rather oil wells that were closer to rivers state were annexed into Rivers State and drilled as Rivers Oil.

If Nigeria had turned out to be a great country with reasonable leaders, then what the Ikwerre people were doing for their survival and by extension the survival of igboic people in Rivers State is not unreasonable. It is/was all about Survival.

The reason why I and some people from other neutral Rivers tribes are now speaking out is because the Dynamics of the Politics in Nigeria has changed and the trajectory for the country is obviously not what we thought would become of the country barely looking at it from 20 years ago.

As it stands the people who are truly plotting and preparing theirselves to exit from Nigeria are the northerners, which explains the rush to buld railway tracks from lagos (their intended port of use) to Maidugiri and further in many kilometers into Moradi, Niger Republic to the tune of 1.9 Billion dollars. Also the new PIB bill which will give them 30 percent from Oil proceedings to make sure they find oil in their place. If truly these people belived in Nigeria, their people would have been demonstrating in mass by just hearing that 1.9Billion Dollars was about to be spent to build a train track to Niger, that money would transform the north in many other ways.

Buhari was a student of Tafawa Balewa and Aminu Kanu, the aim of these two people was never originally to form an unbreakable country with the south of nigeria, rather it was to take as much as possible from the south and build a true Muslim nation of their own, they said it with their own mouth. This is why all of these events are happening under Buhari and the man is acting deaf. Obviously he is not deaf, he is just playing a script.

If you understand my above sentence, then you will understand the undertones to my write up. Any nigerian minority tribe that is not plotting the survival of their people and bulding bridges at this point will see their people lumped together with a wrong group once this country seizes to exist.

As a person from a small tribe in the creeks in Rivers state, we see the ikwerres as our brothers and fellow Riverians, Where the ikwerre people go is where my people will go, If we are looking at this from a perspective of future surival my people can not follow the some ikwerre in pokeing the southeast igbos, because in honestly these people can easily settle their differences in the future as brothers, and those of us non igbos will now be left out. Amaechi can come and claim that he has always championed igbo issues and always stood with his igbo identity, other notable Ikwerres will come and say the same thing, and people Notable Ikwerres like Uche Okwukwu will come and sing igbo songs and their people will settle theirselves, people like Wike will be asked to issue apologies , matter don die be that, what about those non igboic clans wey follow them?

As Rivers People we have to start placing our state on a neutral ground, just as the people from Akwa Ibom and cross river people are doing to give us a soft landing on future alliances. Thats all I am saying.

Abagworo:
Ikwerre area was one of the major melting point of Igbo-Ijaw trade led by Aros and Kalabaris. You made a point from Okrika-Kalabari point of view but in reality there is still more to it. Oha was a Southern Igbo term for all the people which was adopted in the phrase "Oha na eze" meaning the people and Kings also called "Oha nu Eze" in modern Ikwerre. If you visit towns and clans in the South Igbo area including Owerri, Ohaji and Ikwerre they have a title system known as Oha which is a bit similar to North Igbo "Ozo". In the South the traditional rulers lead with Oha as cabinet members unlike Ndi Nze or Ichie in the North. "Ihuru Oha" means 2 things which is "face of the people" or "the first of Ohas" It means when you are approaching Igboland you first meet the "face" before entering the hinterland. Ihuruoha was never a single man who gave birth to Ikwerre but collective name taken by the people. The Igbo as an ethnic group was defined by the Portuguese using language similarities and perception from neighboring groups as basis. For example in the video posted by Reno Omokri to support his claims the historian said Binis were always at war with their Igbo neighbours to the East and that Igbo neighbor is present day Ika in Delta State.
The meaning of iwhuruoha can be translated to mean anything depending on who is translating, but I have said is what was told to me by grandparents who were businessmen in Ikwerreland before the creation of Port harcourt in the 1930s, The Ikwerre kings bragged about theirselves with their names. They were known as warriors.

My knowledge of events that happened around Rivers State as told by my grandparents is all I will emphasize on, in order not to misinform. I cant claim to know much about the Ikas.

Anyways I hope some one has picked up

Senator wali at constitutional conference to make case of the unique ikwerre identity in 1963 ? Explain further ,
Who was senator wali in 1963?
What Constitutional conference was that, was it federal or regional conference?

What was the population of the ikwerre in 1963?
The Ikwerre people are indigenous people of Rivers State and have been in Rivers state longer the longest. This Benin story is only correct for some Ahoada clans in Rivers state, and was stupidly been peddled by some uninformed ikwerre politicians and sadly this is now being peddled by some learned people who are too lazy to research their own history.

My great grand father was an educated man, and was a custodian of our peoples culture in rivers state, I will share some of that knowledge with anyone listening.

There was nothing understood to be igbo tribe amongst the igboic speaking before the formation of Nigeria. Anyone who understood igbo especially igboic speaking people would just say I understand igbo and then say the name of their clan.

The people who reffered to them as igbo would be people from far away from the old eastern region as most people of the now SS would understand and speak some igbo as a second language as well as the language was an important language for business The only reason why we are all hearing igbo this or igbo that is because of the creation of Nigeria, the people who are igbo speaking bought and sold theirselves for centuries, and never found it necessary to see themselves alike. So for all the hatred igbos have on nigeria, just know that Nigeria is best thing to happen to igbo people, it brought igbo people together (atleast for now, all the SE states together)

In the past the Aros considered their selves to be superior to every other clan in their trade route, other clans like the Nri also thought themselves to be superior as well.

The people who call themselves ikwerre today are actually of diverse origin, Ikwerre land being the last part of the igboic hinterland before the creeks/ocean was settled by different people from different places who came to cash out from the booming slave trade, back then it was easy to get slaves from igboland as their people were in large numbers and they had caste system.

The original Ikwerres were the most powerful igboic people east of the niger and the biggest slave dealers, hence the name iwhurunoha which means in the presence of the greatest men, they were mostly warriors and slave kidnappers who were also into kingdom building and empire advancement which explains the vast amount of land owned by the ikwerres today . Their people controlled the Aro confederacy at a point before their king was dethroned by other warring clans. The original ikwerre people are actually an off shoot of ngwa people, but ikwerreland was inhabited by people from all over. Before the Nigeria/ Nigerian civil war no ikwerre person would take offense with being called igbo, hell, no one would actually introduce theirselve as an igbo man, that would have seem as vague as saying I am african. If you called a person who spoke igbo an igboman, they would not dispute it, as it would basically be understood as a person who can speak igbo, this is true for so many tribes in the SS that are now understood not to be igbo people.

Today, most ikwerre people do not know that a major part of current imo state is ikwerre land, and the ohaji people, Uratta people in Owerri are also ikwere people, and that in their midst are actual people from igbo hinterland who came and settled their. They may only know the Aro Osu people who came in the early 1900s.

I am asking all learned ikwerres to resist the history twisting which bad politicians and bad leaders are trying to use to make them foreigners in the very land that their forefathers were birthed to, fought for and defended.

They can argue that ikwerre wants to be seen as a distinct ethnicity as igbos,(for which I wouldnt see the benefit) but dont let some few selfish people get away with arm twisiting your history for their personal gains, and declaring you non indigenes to a land that you are truly indigenous to.

As a matter of facr if there is any igboic speaking clan that would be argued as the originator/progenator of igbo language and culture, it would be the ikwerre people and the Isu people of imo and anambra state. Because from my findings, the igbo clans in Abia have ancestral ties with the efiks and the ibibios, the Nsukka people have theirs with the the Idoma people. the ebonyi people have their with the ogoja people of cross river, the nothern Anambras and some anioma people have theirs with the igalas, the nothern aniomas have theirs with the binis. The Ikwerres do not have any ancestral ties to any other known group, rather they dominated the lifestyle in the creeks and are responsible for introducing igbo centric cultures to my people in the creeks, when my great grandparents were talking about igbo people they were doing business with from the hinterland, they were actually talking about the Ikwerres, most riverine communities in Rivers state know the ikwerre people as Igbo people according to history.

Nairaland has really polarized and turned nigerians against themselves,

OP and people like him should know that the two largest groups of people on Social media in Nigeria and probably west africa are yoruba and igbo people.

If there is any criticism, or opinion or advice on social media in on trending topics in Nigeria, 8 out of 10 times it would be from either a yoruba man or an igbo person. There is no reason to tribalize any of these issues.

A typical learned yoruba or igbo personal is always full of opinion, thinking his or her own insinuations as the correct one, that be the case both tribes top the list for biggest educational strides in Nigeria., so una over sabi too much.

The downside of una oversabi is this giving of too much opinions and again since the two group makes over 70 percent of nigerian cyberspace users the most comments on Obi's ceremony was likely to come for either of both tribes.

However i do understand that the vitriol on Nairaland has gotten the best of you, take it easy bros.

Yes nigerians are very tribalistic and nairaland is the perfect place for a barely tribalistic person to become extremely radicalized. However it pays to be open minded sometimes.

On the other hand, Im sure maybe because i am not an igbo person i can not truly understand how the criticism dey carry pain you!, hence my somewhat liberal response.

-what i want for igbo people is that they should grant them their country. But how can you have a country inside a country(nucleus). It then mean if nigeria decided to close it border connection with the ibo nation, they will all starve to death... What if Nigeria restricts the igbo flight from plying it airspace?
-I am not against ipob... my only problem with them is that they cant defined the meaning of ipob (indigenous people of biafra)... biafra is only for the indigenous people of ibo land, how come they are trying so hard to harness the Niger deltan(south south) since it only indigenous people?
- The solution of the the plight of ibo people is that , they should stop being so fetish with money, they should stop being selfish and try to understand other people emotion... they should stop trying to manipulate or cheat and always trying to play smart.
Obviously it's reasonable to say that the fulanis are intelligent and domineering people, they have so far conquered territories far away from their land, and are currently playing the wizard of oz to alot of other nigerian tribes who seem to be okay with it. But i believe they are making a mistake with how they are going about issues with igbo people.

I have always been of the opinion that if the fulanis really wanted to truly own Nigeria without resistance, they would have brought the igbo people on board like their people were trying to do in the 70s and 80s, find a fulani loyalist among the igbos and make him a president even if it was just 4 years, made sure their was equally 6 states in se, If the fulanis had done this like they were doing with the yorubas, continue to present igbo and yoruba and hausa trinity in governemt, with the whole one nigeria ruse, their people would have had nigeria and nigerians in their pocket for generations more to come. But trying to sideline igbos and run nigeria while pretending to care about yorubas didnt work as we can see even with a yoruba vice president.

I have always maintained that you cant maltreat a major part of of your body for long and continue to remain alive (if your liver is faulty, zou cant abandon it simply because you hate it and expect to be alive), lets stop deceiving ourselves with size of land, igbo people have the human resource, over 50 million in Nigeria alone, and these people are a financial force to reckon within this this country and subregion, they may not have one leader, but as a group of people, they are realistically powerful. How could this country have made any headway by trying to sideline of its major organs.

As it stands now, the disunity amongst Nigerians has never been this bad, thanks to Buhari and yes IPOB, IPOB has rubbed that oil of secession on the yorubas, and it might never be easily removed. Because truly, yes a yoruba man is mostly likel toy flourish more in a solo yoruba nation than with every other nigerian group as a country, some yoruba politicians might have supported igboho as a way to boost their political ambitions but once you put that seccesionist idea in the mind of the average yoruba man, it quickly becomes an ideology that cant easily be removed as long as nigeria continues to do poorly.

My point is this for the fulanis reading, your people have it good here in Nigeria, whether in or out of power, they hold strong power and respect in the country. Working with igbos and yorubas on a pretend equal plate, will continue to keep your people afloat. Otherwise as it stands, nigeria is on its knees, there is more than likely going to be referendum, if the country is regionalised, igbo people will still break away from nigeria. Again if their people are able to arm themselves as a nation, then all those threats that some of you are making above me about how strong your tribe is, is childish. An armed nation of over 50 million people is one to reckon with. Anyone who knows nigerian history knows that alot of injustices has been to igbo people, by everyone including the igbos themselves, simply because the people have never been in unison even uptill today and never had a single leader/king. For example, some lands in certain parts of the creeks today in the ijoid parts south south, were originally owned by igbo people, like kalabari kingdom was originally inhabited by ngwa/ndoki people, before they moved there from modern day cross river state in the 1890s, same as opobo to name a few.

All of these are part the reason why world history might repeat itself in nigeria. something similar happened in Germany, their people were divided with many kingdoms throughout the 1700s and 1800s. The Germanic tribes of europe preferred to live in small kingdoms because each one of those thought themself to be more special than the other gemanic tribe while they all pledged allegiance to rome, then later to france, a lot of Germanic tribes were invaded, and alot of territory originally belonging to Germanic tribes were overun, taken given to the slavs, This was the reason for ww1, Germany went to war with the european powers then, to take back their land They lost embarrasingly and even had more land taken from them and ceded to Poland. The Germans are very crafty people, took 25 years rebuilt their country, acquired a massive war arsenal and then ww2 invasion starting with Poland in 1939. Their quest was to recover their land. Even though they lost again, the human toll of that war can never be over emphasizes. If you take the word germany and replace with igbo you can see alot of similarities between the stories.

I worry that depending on how we handle this national issue of marginalization of all tribes in nigeria today, A BIG GREAT WAR is coming to our region whether we separate or not, a war that would take us back 100 years, while the rest of Africa moves ahead.

Here is some of my input of scenarios that could prevent the impending disasters that lies ahead.

Igbo President. The issue of Biafra will lose weight with an Igbo president, find a fulani/one nigeria loyalist and keep them in charge for 4years, create a new state in the se, force some of the now igboic group with new political identity crisis into of that state and pass it to the south east. Dont forget to treat the yorubas equally by making sure they are well represented in the Government. Biafra will lose weight aleast for the next generation and one nigeria can continue as it stands without restructuring. If a Yoruba man is elected, they will call for a referendum for restructuring and igbos will still leave, and the impending disaster still awaits.

The issue of igbos coming back to re claim historical lands in the event of their exit from nigeria is unlikely if they leave with the ijaws in the same country , there will probably be no reason to fear for an invasion if the people are still with them in the same country where igbos are a majority.

As it stands, Its reaslistic to say that the igbo people will not be leaving nigeria alone for those wondering. There are a lot of tribes in the SS that would rather stay as a nation in control of its welfare in an igbo dominated country than stay in Nigeria.

Some people might find my find my response offensive, but stay focused on the message. We could fix this country and continue to manage it and slowly grow together.

Very stupid talk by one useless and POWERLESS fool called Emma.

By the way, what is Governor Nyesom Wike's name doing in that your terrorist list.
You guys are always looking for trouble. Anyway, I trust that one, by the time he begins his own the whole Igboland will scream Wike this, Wike that.
Oyigbo is just some months ago o.

Emma POWERLESS you better be careful before they take you to Abuja to answer some few questions.
Obviously Emma Powerful needs to check dictionary again for the meaning of Betrayal, Wike vowed to deal with IPOB on national tv if he participated in kanu's capture then it means he kept his word. That one no be Betrayal.

The reason I quoted you is this, i see you have left the message on the topic and rather diverted your response to Igbo vs ikwerre. I have always wanted have this conversation with an ikwerre person online, as i do in person with my ikwerre friends.

My fellow rivers bloda, my question is this? What is the gameplan of ikwerre people?

As it stands now Nigeria is on the track to disintegration, Thanks to Bigotry of Buhari and Nnamdi Kanu's further polarization his peoples mind

Southern governors are now in Unison for a president from Southern Nigeria, and they also in unison of restructuring and devolution of power from the centre. Right to State Police, etc.

So that means once a southern person becomes President, this country will be restructured, states will be given right to state police, which means those states can now procure arms and ammunition from the international community? All that means that it would only take a Pro Biafran Politician or High profiled person like nnamdi kanu to drag igbo people to declare biafran republic devoid of nigeria connection.

Its important to understand that at this point igbo people will be able to defend themselves since they are able to buy arms, we are only able to bully them now because the people have been disarmed.

That is where the problem for the South South will start.

There are actually alot of ethnic groups in the south south that will prefer to be in an Igbo dominated Biafra, tnan an Ijaw dominated niger delta anything. My people are one of them, I am an ogoni man, my people have fought many wars with ijaws in the creeks to refuse their domination, we can not simply allow ourselves to now officially be dominated by them in the name of forming a country. The ijaw people know this themselves, that is why they are declaring Ijaw republic without mentioning other ND tribes,

So what is the plan for the ikwerre people? Because as someone else said on this forum if your tribe doesnt have a plan, then those tribes with sinister plan will make one for you.

Are ikwerre people planning on staying in nigeria after igbo, yorubas and ther nd tribes have left? Are ikwerre people planning to join Biafra after all these years of shocking vitrol, mocking and bullying mainland igbos. I mean the only people in Nigeria who do not call ikwerre people igbo people are ithe ikwerre people themselves. The igbo and ikwerre division was hush hush before now, but Our Governor has now made this a huge national issue, even going to say that ikwerre people are from Benin which is not true, and none of the ikwerre kings are coming out to denounce that lie and blunder, if 30 years from now in the future, other indigenous tribes in rivers start claiming that ikwerres are foreigners from edo who have annexed their land, and they want it returned, This wikes edo theory can be used in an international court as part of proof. See what happened in palestine as example.

My question to my ikwerre Brothers is what is the plan? Is it not time to start mending fences with igbo people in order to give Ikwerre people soft landing? Obviously Ikwerre people would be at home in Biafra if not for these nonsense divisions.

Or is Ikwerre in Rivers state planing on Becoming Ikwerre Republic? what about the Ikwerre people in Imo state who are happy to be called igbo people?

The future doesnt look so good for ikwerreland as it stands my brother. I am looking forward to Answers from intelligent ikwerres

They are not the most populous in SS either.

Using 2006 census.
Akwa ibom 3million (of which about 2million are Ibibio)

Rivers 5million (of which at least 2million are ijaw)

Bayelsa 1.7million (of which at least 1.3million are ijaw)

Delta, Ondo has indigenous ijaw.

Ibibios can only be found in Akwa ibom (at 2million)

Basically the population of ijaw in rivers and Bayelsa +Delta is quite larger than ibibio
2 Million ijaw people inside Rivers state? ?? from which communities Nah Oga Sir? The total number of actual Ijoid people in rivers is way less than 600k. If ijaw is 2 million how many Million Ikwerre do we have? Remember than out state s more non indigenes than indigenes. That population census was a total number of people resident in the state without state of origin. More than half the people living in rivers state are not from rivers state.

Even the 5 million massively under represents the total number of people in Rivers State, A lot of igbo people were refusing to be counted, saying they werent nigerians, which i think was one of the dumbest things i have witnessed. Heard they were doing this in the South East as well, Now fast forward to the future and Nigerians are massively understating the population of igbo people, to their detriment.

Election dem no go gree go vote, they are more interested in their business, Population census, dem no gree make them count them, and still these people remain in Nigeria, being disrecpected

Who was the Head of State and Head of the Supreme Military Council? Life imprisonment for agitating for self-determination? Have you finally told Buhari what to do to the womaniser called Nnamdi Kanu? grin
Welcome to Nairaland, The person, you have been fighting with, and the people liking his comments might most likely not have been igbo people, but they have made sure that in a thread that all southern nigerians should be happy and encouraging the ijaws, it turns out to be a tear down of ourselves.

This nairaland is serving a fantastic purpose in Nigeria.
