It was Oct 2019 I went into importation of rice. Army impound my rice and ask me to bring a million naira but I was unable to get the money so they distribute the rice within themselves. I went into serious debt. Sold everything I have to settle debt. Friend and family desert me. Please I am not asking for free money. Good evening nairalanders. This is my first time of posting in this platform, though the account has been in existence. My write up will be a bit longer, please do help me read through it and don't mind my grammatical

I just want to know if someone like me exists or existed out there.
If someone like me have existed, how did he or she able to pull through?.

I came from a family of eight in a local government in Enugu state. I'm the youngest of all.
My father was a civil servant before he died 2011 when I just finished secondary school.
My mom is a petty trader. My family is a committed Anglicans. The branch of the church in my village was my father's part of evangelism,to bring church closer to people's doorstep.

I talked about the church because I knew I have good Christian foundation and prioritize prayers and mindful of our steps on some issues (we are not perfect)

Two things has been running through my mind for long time whenever I think about my family, my siblings, my mom and myself.
But recently I decided to go for one.

Firstly, I thought of changing my surname because I thought the name was cursed and secondly I thought of ending my life to know if I can rest. After all, we all will die one day.

I have taken two popular poisons but instead of killing me , I will only wake up to notice burnt throat and little dizziness....lol.

I will list the problems of my family to know if this kind of family can survive.
I decided to number it for clarity.

1. Out of eight children, six are married.
My eldest brother married for 23 years no child.
My two sisters , they have married for 12 years and 6 years respectively, no child.

The remaining three that were able to have theirs, can't eat two square meal a day.
That's not the worst, check the numbers below.

2. Sickness: Among 8 children, it's only two that's not sick as I type this, is not continually, it's a steady sickness...I will break it down.

My elder sister with four kids has a tuberculosis, her immediate younger sister also have the same sickness.

My immediate elder sister who was healthy until her marriage is not only sick but always complain of stomach bite which is like a default sickness for the ones that doesn't have kids.

It didn't end there, my immediate elder brother got married last three years, luckily to us , his wife conceived and successfully delivered 2018, a week after his wife's delivery, the little child started having sickness,which resulted into surgery at her age.
Her dad (my brother) had an accident and his leg was fractured, two days after the child's surgery, as I type this, he has a broken leg, not fixed yet.

Even the finger typing this, fights with internal heat. That's me!

Sound ideal, right?
Is a really life experience.

Last year june,my mom had a very serious stomach issue which resulted into major operation , luckily to us, she survived.
And the same June this year, she was operated on again and doctor billed much and we had no option than to leave her in the hospital to face struggling ones which has been a normal.

3 Finance: Of course you can predict the financial condition of this ill family.
Out of this 8 children, I will boldly tell you that 5 out of this family are graduates. 3 engineers and two are in commercial. Some have stayed for 6 years without job. We all studied individually using one bike to be a commercial cyclist (okada). We never relented , even though we are sick financially and health wise.

Why I want to end all, I checked back from my primary school to university level, down to this present day, I have never experience easy life. Calls from my family members are always bad news. I don't think life hold anything good for me again...
I don't really think... Doors are shot against me... Everything about my life is sick.
I have hustled and hustled...No friend, no assistance.

I am always backwards, training myself to primary school, secondary school, University level and today.

The write up is already long, I don't want to break down my personal life experience,just to survive.

To keep life moving,I decided to register for an IT course at Ojeulegba,Lagos because my friend promised to pay for it,
I used the little money I saved from NYSC to register for half of the stipulated amount as I await him to pay as promised.

Message entered my phone one evening and my friend told me to fix myself and that's all.
I became sick and more tired, mehn it has been hellish, no money to pay up,no money to eat again and no money to transport myself back to my brother.

Please, all I see around me is death.
Can I survive this this?
Have any family gone through this and survive?
I'm tired of praying, many family prayers has been conducted .
What's wrong with the family?.
I'm already tired and I will end everything. God is still God my dear. Don't give up.

I got married 8months ago, my hubby earns 70k monthly while I am yet to get a job, during our wedding ceremony, hubby spent about 580k on the list given to him for the trad wedding, I persuaded my parents to reduce the list but they said it is a must and a tradition.

He was able to raise the Money bag as I wasnt working and I couldn't help financially. After marriage I suggested that he should be sending something monthly to my parent as he do send to his parent too, but to my surprise the reply he gave me was that he didn't owe my parent anything that they have collected all they are entitled to from him, initially I was not angry about that until my younger brother wanted to get married and his bride family gave him list of things for the traditional wedding which is amounted to 400k.

My dad then shared the expenses and told my husband to contribute 120k towards my brother's wedding but to my surprise, my husband said no and told me that my family has collected all they wanted during our wedding and they shouldn't come to him for any financial assistance. This got me angry and I told him that he is not responsible. Ever since then we have been living like strangers in the house, he doesn't talk to me, he has just been keeping to himself, and I have never seen him this way before not even in our 2yrs of courting

Please our mummies and daddies kindly advise me on what to do to savor the situation, I am in between my husband and my family.

I've seen parishes holding up to 5 masses with full capacity, plus overflow, & you want just a few people to come around, & worship for just 1hr?? Will there be a waiting areas??
It would be better if they make use of their open spaces with canopies, & not allowing cars in so as to have more spaces....but what happens to the traffic around the churches??

The worst part is that the Catholic Churches are among the least IT compliant. Despite their population, most of them do not have social media platforms to communicate with their members. They also have a very poor multimedia/ sound system in the churches. You approach a priest that you want to create a web platform for the church & he says he's not interested....

As if the Lagos archdiocese got a sign from COVID, around February 2020, a seminar was organized to build a more robust communication platform for the church, but nothing was implemented before COVID took over...

Edo is APC state.

The problem was that Obaseki went late to see the godfather of yoruba politics (Tinubu) knowing fully well his state is a Yoruba state and the people has APC at heart.

To me the visit should have been more earlier. I think his actions got Tinubu angry. A stitch in time saves nine

I am a young landlord, i have a properties up for rent but i don't use a lawyer or property agent to admit tenant into my house.
December 2015 i admitted this Stubborn Hausa police man into my house. He rented a room and palour self contain from me since 2015 for the rate of N150,000 per annum. But ever since i admitted him into my house to collect my rent from him as been a big problem, the second rent i collected from him i have to go and report him at the police station not until he had to pay half of the money then. There after he does not turn-on to pay his rent not until today he his owing me for last year and still owing till now. He is owing me 7 months salary. I called him early this month to ask of my rent from him what he told we was that my head is not correct. Please any one here who is here reading this thread that can help me please reply message. Biden surpassed the 1,991 votes needed to win the race on Friday. It comes at a time when the nation is experiencing one of its most difficult times in history.

Good day Nairalanders, I have been married for just a year now and it has not been easy here! My Husband wants to know every thing about my finance. He has disturbed me to know how much is my salary worth of.

I have always denied him of the fact, what I know is that I used my money to refurbish our flat, got some new things to change the outlook of the place....

But I am not really finding it funny any longer. As we speak, he collected my ATM card since last two weeks, said I must tell him the pin or I should forget having it back. I went to my bank, told them that I lost the card and they changed it for me last Friday and he collected it again said it's either I tell him the pin or he will do something funny ...

I don't know what funny thing he's gonna do but I am worried! Pls is this how marriage is?
He claims to own me and own my salary! Is it fair? This marriage is too early instead I would have quit and I am pregnant at the moment!
What do I do? I don't want anybody to know anything about my finances including him till I have my baby whom my spirit accepted that I should make my next of kin.

I just Realized that Nigerians were not built to speak up for their right, in other words we dont know our fundamental human rights and cannot protest anything,
if you look at the way most of us grew up, we grew up in households were we couldnt express our opinions and make decisions for ourselves even when we turned adults, also with parents that always dictate every single thing in the house and even when they are wrong they still intimidate us with their power.
So most of this issues in this country will never be sorted and justice will never come to the citizens of this country unless we go back to the foundation, which is the upbringing of our kids, we should be able to let our children air their opinions and support their choices.

Look at the Revolution happening in America today, Even with a country with 98 percent indigenous people we still are unable to sort our issues.

I have been in UK for 7 years doing business. I have never been charged for debit card, Cheque book issuance or any stupid sms or account maintenance charge and all banks in UK are light years ahead of Nigerian banks.

Here, you call them you need card, they issue in 3 days with no charge. what can we do here? Our system is not encouraging at all.

CBN should introduce Walking into the bank charge. our people will pay and come online to rant

As noted elsewhere in my previous thread: https://www.nairaland.com/5829221/build-small-house-now-keep, I have been seriously considering building a house, but after a few inquiries and inspections, I discovered that I could only afford a land and build in remote area in my state.

The effect is that my neighbours and everyone in my vicinity will be of low income or lower middle class. This effect is seen in churches, schools etc around there too.

Personally, I don't care about this but my elder brother will not allow me to rest. According to him, "Nigga, you like village too much, leave that place," he is of the opinion that I should even leave the state entirely-- he is New York based anyway.

NOW, these thoughts have been in my subconscious mind, having subliminal effects on me.

Considering, that this great forum has people from all walks of life, I have decided to bring this issue here: TO WHAT EXTENT DOES ONE'S RESIDENT ENVIRONMENT AFFECT HIM especially with regard to finance.

Should I forget about building now-- since I can only afford to build in a remote area now-- and rent in a highbrow, upscale area?

What are the advantages or disadvantages of living among the rich.
