Only God knows what the difference in amount is b/w what AC-USA charged AC-Nigeria for it vs what was actually paid for it huh huh
WebmastersRe: Sooo, Has Anyone Seen The N6m Website Called "nigeria At 50?" by yawatide(op): 3:19pm On Sep 07, 2010
@onye: I don't think the former is the official website as it is referencing events in the UK. Either way, you would expect there to be massive marketing on the airwaves (on govt-owned stations to say the least) to advertise it. Oh well, I guess it's time to be Jonathan's friend on facebook
WebmastersSooo, Has Anyone Seen The N6m Website Called "nigeria At 50?" by yawatide(op): 9:55am On Sep 07, 2010
URL of the official website only,please.

If the site isn't yet up, at this point, I'd say it has lost all relevance

I took it out but forgot to renumber tongue

Though like there is no perfect human being, there is no perfect site, we can strive for it. To me, as in when I do reviews, I say all of the above make a good website. Sure a site will be good in some ways and bad in others but a good combination is what should we should strive for.
WebmastersRe: The Best Nigerian Websites You Have Seen! by yawatide(f): 12:22pm On Aug 21, 2010
I know but I am only asking based on what is presented. I am like a computer: Garbage In, Garbage out.

Better question:

Let's step back and ask how you define, "The Best Nigerian Websites You Have Seen". Is it based on:

1) Functionality?
2) Design?
4) Download Time?
5) User Experience?
6) Code Structure?
7) All of the above?

When we answer these (and perhaps more), then we can have a better discussion.
WebmastersRe: The Best Nigerian Websites You Have Seen! by yawatide(f): 11:45am On Aug 21, 2010
If the above 2 sites are what are regarded as "The Best Nigerian Websites You Have Seen", then my Nigerian developers, we have a problem.

and no, I won't respond to, "show me your works".
WebmastersRe: Joomla Assistance Pls by yawatide(f): 2:06pm On Aug 08, 2010
I am sure there are others but I have used a (joomla 1.5) plugin that might suit you, here: http://hopewaddell.net/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=68&Itemid=64

I had to pay for it and so unfortunately, I can't give it out for free. It took me time (which equals money) to:

1) Scour the web for this plugin (I downloaded and paid for, at least 5 different versions, none of which met the client's needs)
2) Test it out and make sure it was what my client wanted

If you are willing to pay, then we can play.

Please note that I didn't design the site. I only helped them customize the template and to install the plugins they needed.
WebmastersNigeria Web Conference - Watz Up? by yawatide(op): 4:56pm On Aug 04, 2010
http://www.nigeriawebconference.com/

I remember there being a lot of buzz about this earlier on this year. It was advertised in 2009 and billed to be held in February. Then I heard June. Now, nothing.

What's the status on this? If no longer holding, why whet our appetite in the first place? huh

I must have been living under Olumo Rock cos I don't recall seeing this post. All the same, nice post. I downloaded the ebook and have even reviewed Kolejo and I am impressed! Especially considering the post immediately before mine, I hope you get many more like this. Webmonk has definitely put the web dev world in Nigeria on notice with this project.

Kudos! Dis one don pass "more grease to your elbows". This one is more like, "more palm oil to your soup" tongue

Good luck!

Same page: http://www.theempoweredlife.net/news.html

1) I click submit without filling out any field and I get:
Method Not Implemented
FirstName=&LastName=&AddressStreet1=&AddressStreet2=&PaymentDate=&BankTeller=&TelePhone=&EmailFrom=&submit=SubmitGET to /news.html not supported.

Invalid method in request FirstName=&LastName=&AddressStreet1=&AddressStreet2=&PaymentDate=&BankTeller=&TelePhone=&EmailFrom=&submit=SubmitGET /news.html HTTP/1.1
2) I filled out "asdf" in all required fields and got the same error as #1

Remember, this if the form that you are using to register your participants. How much faith will they have in your teachings if the very thing you want to teach isn't working on your end?
WebmastersRe: Learn Web Design/development In August 7 Seminar/training by yawatide(f): 11:00am On Jul 26, 2010
Wouldn't it be best to practice what you will be preaching?

I tried filling out your form but got this error when I clicked the submit button:

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ';' in /home/content/m/a/s/masterizu/html/seminarsend.php on line 44

I mean, I see that one of your topics is "sending form to database".

Get your form working right, including front end and back end validation before offering this as a topic. Either that or deduct the cost for this part of the seminar from the money you intend to charge.

Good luck and here is to wishing you a successful seminar.

I happen to know the guy personally. He has actually told me a few people over the years have contacted him, thanking him for the site as they have landed clients via the site (one of the features is "find a webmaster" where you enter your search criteria and get webmasters that meet the search criteria).

He is actually in the US and as mentioned earlier, but for logistical reasons, his plan is to eventually set up a meeting where we could all meet-and-greet, and rub minds for the betterment of us all. If things go well after that, he intends to set up a branch in every African country.

As Dual may have suggested, there are things that work flawlessly in other parts of the world, basic things, which for some reason refuse to work within the Nigerian environment. I can personally attest to this. It is very discouraging. Don't lose the faith though.

Site: http://www.webmastersofafrica.com/

About WOA: http://www.webmastersofafrica.com/about-webmasters-of-africa/

Purpose of site/organization:
- To provide a place where webmasters of African origin can register and be seen by those of African origin who need a website but aren't comfortable hiring non-Africans

- To promote the African webmaster

- Eventually, to lay the foundation for possible meetings so that fellow African webmasters know who they are and meet, not for politics but to share knowledge.

WebmastersRe: Picture Of My Hacked Site And How I Resolved The Problem by yawatide(f): 3:41pm On Jun 28, 2010
I am coming out of a self-imposed exile only to address a particular issue which I think has been misconstrued here, so that we all know that there is more than one option and we can all learn from one another, though one may be disadvantageous over the other.

Yes they can. This is why if you note, the drupal, joomla, etc website give a disclaimer stating that you should be wary of any plug in, free or commercial, posted on their site. They are not responsible for any damage caused to your system/app. The only trusted ones are the ones that come directly from the authors of such CMS tools.

Bottomline: *Always* upgrade your version of CMS with the latest security patches. The authors don't come up with these patches for nothing.

Granted many on here probably have the hand-written code that could help the poster out in no time, without any clear requirements and given the fact that the poster is in a state of emergency, a CMS IMHO is his best option - Among others, he doesn't have to worry about someone holding his hand to set up the hand-written scripts/setting up a database/tables and he can install a cms on his end with little or not effort thus leaving him with coming up with a cool skin/template.

WebmastersRe: Problem With Mysql, Phpmyadmin. Pls Help by yawatide(f): 11:47am On Jan 22, 2010
Maybe you do, maybe you don't. It all depends. Again, are you intending to returning just one result set or many? If the latter, an array is warranted. If not, no. A good way to see how your query is working, and I do this all the time, is to copy it verbatim and paste/run it in phpMyAdmin. If you get an error, you note it and fix it and run it again till it works. If you don't, you note the results.

good luck!

WebmastersRe: Professional Webdesign by yawatide(f): 10:56pm On Jan 21, 2010
I didn't want to appear "harsh" (though a dose of that is needed every now and then, provided it is meant for good) and consequently be asked to "show your works" so I purposely didn't want to comment until someone else did.

There is NO excuse for the way that site is, especially not in 2010. Doing it for yourself is one thing. For your clients? Totally unacceptable! What happens if they decided to make a change somewhere? Do they have to make yet another slice to change "page" to "pages"? What if you can't be contacted and they don't know/have the font you used? Your site fails on the following grounds: readability, maintainability, usabilty, accessibility.

A thread like this is the reason why I will say it over and over: the web conference should have as its theme, "getting back to the basics". A house without a solid foundation is doomed to collapse.
WebmastersRe: Problem With Mysql, Phpmyadmin. Pls Help by yawatide(f): 8:12pm On Jan 21, 2010
much better smiley

Chances are that your query is returning a single result set whereas, via your mysql_fetch_array() call, you are telling your code to expect an array. So you need to get rid of the mysql_fetch_array() call.

Alternatively, you could try this approach (note how I have broken down what you have condensed into one line, to a series of lines. This helps with readability and maintainability wink)

<?php
database calls.

$query = "SELECT name, subject, message FROM contact";
$result = mysql_query($query);

while($row = mysql_fetch_array($result, MYSQL_ASSOC))
{
echo "Name :{$row['name']} <br>" .
"Subject : {$row['subject']} <br>" .
"Message : {$row['message']} <br><br>";
}

include 'closedb.php';
?>
