he he dual, I guess you are running on single core today LOL |
Thanks for the compliment. I try my best. The more I hear this, the more something says I should set up a school to rival aptech and niit combined ![]() |
sure. YIM/email at yawatide (it's a yahoo account. Note the lack of dashes). I look forward to chatting with you and doing business with you as well ![]() |
kolitos: At how much money would you regard as "ripping off", given the time and effort put into it? Better yet, why don't we just develop sites for free, ala communism (and I wonder where the soviet union and (old) china are now)? |
Thanks for the quick response. Hmm, needless to say, next time, even if the partner is you yourself, *always* get something in writing. What I would suggest is to visit his facebook page, per Dual's link and post the link to this thread there for him to comment. I would like for him to come here to defend himself (so far he has no case) before I make any further comments. Till he does, I will join you in saying that this kind of behavior needs to stop. It is indeed true that generally speaking, one bad apple spoils the bunch. Webemarald, wey you dey? |
hmmm, 1) what is the exact problem, as in the exact work he was tasked to do? 2) Was there any signed contract? If yes, was there a clause in there for extra charges should scope be changed? 3) Per your "i keep wondering if he actually know what he is doing" comment, did you conduct any interviews/written or verbal tests to ascertain that he actually practiced what he preached? I would appreciate answers to these (and others I may have in the future) as it will help me frame my response(s). I am being totally neutral here and should webemarald choose to respond, I will have another set of questions just for him. Thanks, |
dual mba. In fact, if you don't act fast, the price will double ![]() wat of d other babe u been dey pursue? I might be a lil above your pay grade ![]() |
Yawa i want to ask whats your occupation cuz u seem to be more a css person/php/database so just curious
Hmm, so what do I seem to be less of? Also, if I "seem to be more of a css person/php/database" person, how in the world do I put all that on to a web page (as in html)? ![]() I am a web developer. Next question (hopefully not, "may I see your works? ). |
Hmm, complete 5-page website for $33? I just might take him up on the offer ![]() |
kambridge site: I was so interested (well, not really but hopefully you wll get the point ) that I decided to register on the site. I mistakenly hit "send/submit (well again, not really but again, you will hopefully get the point ), without filling out a pin or serial number and I got a "database not selected" on the ensuing page.Maybe you should take a look at that, assuming the site is 100% uploaded. |
1) Hitting "submit" on contact and registeration page, without filling out anything, the page submits. No validation at all. Also, strange grey lines appear at the top of the page 2) Your logo is part flash, part image. In FF, because you are doing slices there, it looks disjointed, like a wave or broken bone. 3) Photo gallery page has huge gap at the top 4) I translated the page I was on from English to German but couldn't find English in the dropdown to re-translate back to English. 5) On "about us", strange circles (probably bullet images) are showing beside options and are showing outside of the content well. 6) "Download Flyer" image/link not working. Same with news/updates (and probably others) 7) Still using tables (for non-tabular data), image maps, multiple " " and spacer gifs in 2010? Verdict: Layout good, Functionality bad |
and what exactly are the "terms and conditions" that "apply"? |
This has already been answered here: https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-379196.0.html Programming mod: feel free to lock this thread. |

(F)ile (T)ransfer (P)rotocol Tools: Filezilla (Firefox plugin) WSFTP netftp.com a ton of others. Good luck! |
simple answer: with floating, you can't. Elements either appear side-by-side or stacked on top of each other. |
IMHO, it is self-explanatory. For instance, it is quite obvious upon opening the site in firefox that the navigation bar and items therein are all "off" significantly. Just open it in firefox and check it out for yourself. good luck! |
pc: your site isn't showing up well in firefox |
Look at where you are clearing the floats. Remember, you have to add the clear * right after * the floated items, not the container. so move the BR to right after the 2nd P tag (as in <div><p></p><p></p> </div>) By the way, probably done on purpose but just in case, I noticed that your CSS rules didn't have a "." preceding them as in ".clear". Let me know if this explanation helps |
lanbaba, I could have sworn dual emailed you my (flagged) solution which answered this. By default, the Ps and DIVs span the width of its container, 100%. In order to get the Ps side by side, you need to set the width of at least one. Set the width of at least one P and see the wonders thou shalt perform ![]() |
By the way, you can't say you didn't do any SEO because the mere fact that your site has content means that it has something that search engines like. Besides, what are the odds there are many "kheme" out there. Case in point: I once had a dictionary site for my language. Tons of pages. One day, some guy calls me wanting to partner. I felt he was going too fast so i balked. The guy bought a domain that was my descriptive than mine (for example: mine was myyoruba.com whereas his was yorubadictionary.com) and guess what? with NO content whatsoever, his ranked higher than my site for at least a year. Of course, SEO is a science and has to be studied fully to get its full effect. Having said that, if you want that level, get ready to shell out thousands of dollars because it doesn't come cheap. In the meantime, do what your time and money and afford and hope for the best. Personally, any site I put up gets indexed (for random keywords) within 3 weeks of launch. Why? I register them on google site maps and google I set up google analytics on each one. IMHO, by registering with these google products, I am hoping that google sees those sites and indexes them much quicker than if it were done purely organically. |
Assuming it is an html file and it doesn't require any server side interaction and/or you are hosting the files locally, just open any browser, click file->open file and you should b good to go |
YIM and email: yawatide (note, no dashes). |
Minimum: $1,500 just for design/development. If maintenance will be required, that will cost extra (minimum, depending on level of changes: $50 a month) |
my friend, SEO isn't rocket science. Sure there are tools that can generate keywords but that doesn't mean one can't generate them themselves and insert same into a database. Either way, same difference. If this means I know nothing about SEO, so be it. In the time you have used posting here, you could have come up with over 100 keywords without relying on a tool. PS: i've kinda noticed that SEO is not common with many nigerian developers. someone please correct me if i'm wrong.Let me be the first to correct you. On what grounds do you make the statement? Do you have facts and figures to back this claim up? Have you google'd with certain keywords and not found Nigerian sites ranked at the top? ![]() Again, based on one of my responses and that of Afam, the website's approach doesn't make sense, IMHO. Even if you are held at gunpoint, if the solution sucks, tell the client so, even if it means losing your job or the client. I do it all the time and guess what? I win every single time ![]() |
Probably from a database. The keywords are thus fetched via like: keyword=$keyword in the URL and on the backend, the mod rewrite takes the variable and converts it to an SEO-friendly string. |
poster: Your latest post has been marked as spam and I have sent a message to Seun to unblock it. To answer your question, as I now have a better understanding: It is definitely mod rewrite. They are most likely reusing the same landing page with keywords specific to each link clicked on a prior page. If you ask me though, that dummy content is redundant and gives me the impression that I am not getting the content I need. It is definitely a mod rewrite |
hmmm, I don't quite understand your question but taking a guess, could mod rewrite have something to do with it? ![]() |
lanbaba: Sorry, Seun has sole "ownership" over the spam bot and until he unspams it, there is nothing I can do. For the record, I have told him a few times that though I don't know about sex and romance boards, when it comes to webmaster board for example, quality posts are being lost as a result and that contrary to popular belief, it is nairaland (and the people who learn from such posts) that will lose out in the end, not the poster. |
kheme: welcome back and happy new year ![]() I think this is a BAD idea, even if you are paid top dollar to do otherwise. What he should do is have multiple domains which all link to the same "main" domain. It is also BAD from a maintenance stand point - When you and/or the others leave and other people need to replace you (it does happen), how do the others know what is going on? Again, VERY BAD idea. If the guy still has doubts, kindly point him to this post and/or have him contact me directly ![]() |
