@ , : okay o ![]() @donpuzo yim me at yawatide at any time |
well, i only setup proper security if i am paid for it - then i employ the security ppl to do thatdhtml, not a good attitude to have. I hope you are joking sha. There are certain things that should come standard with every site you do. Personally, I set a price based on requirements, knowing again that certain things come standard. Either we agree on that price, negotiate within reason or I reject. In the case of the latter, I always believe that there are a lot of fish in the ocean so I never feel down or angry. |
It's donpuzo again! You silly o ![]() Poster: run your app through this site to see if it makes the cut with respect to layout across a myriad of mobile devices: http://ready.mobi/launch.jsp?locale=en_EN Good luck! |
BTW, I just followed you on twitter. Im the dude with a baby face SmileyFollow me, i follow you. man no go vex ![]() |
Most likely though again, I will yield to those who are more versed in these things. I just know the theory but not the practical ![]() Take another example, to show how bad this can get: http://www.aksgonline.com/articlePage.aspx?qrID=700 1) Note the news article 2) replace "700" with a tick and note the error, which tells you, among others: table name and column name. Now a bad guy would immediately exploit this and make the 'webmaster' lose his job by posting articles that are offensive to the governor abi? but I am not like that ![]() |
http://www.nse.org.ng/index2.php?page=applicationOur resident security expert, slyrox, can probably chime in better on this than I can but for what it's worth, you DO NOT want to code your pages based on one-page-delivers-all-content" per the bolded section above. It is way to risky. All I had to do, to determine if the site had a possibility of getting hacked was to replace "application" with a tick ('). The hackers most likely exploited the site using what I would call the kindergarten of hacking techniques. Makes me wonder how "good" the site's security is, given this entry-level hacking techinique. Oh well, if I had offered my services, they would have said I charged too much. This is most likely what you get when you squeeze your Azikiwes so tightly that even the late Azikiwe feels suffocated in the grave, though he's been gone for many, many years. |
@yawa-ti-de i asked the question because i have a project to work on and i really want to work with the best on it. I guess that answers your question.Nicely rephrased ![]() If you want to work with the best, do what I do: Ask for folks to send in "their works" and judge from there. I only said what I said for the same reason I don't believe in, among others, FIFA's world's best player of the year or the sexiest person alive - it is highly subjective. Send out the clarion call and from there, separate the wheat from the chaff from there. Per Cactus' comment, learn to use the search feature of the site. Trust me, this and other topics have morphed over time (with the latest being this year's, "which web dev company is the best in Nigeria), and I am talking over the last 3 to 4 years at least. Good luck! |
I second Cactus' post above. Folks, it isn't and shouldn't always be about the money. If you are good, the money will come looking for you. Granted I didn't start out coding for free but I did my first site on the cheap. Why? I wanted to get my name out there? Once I got established to where I started getting calls, I increased my prices accordingly. Everyone's life story isn't and won't be the same. If you really love this biz, then you won't look at it primarily from a money perspective. Also, remember 2 things: 1) Money doesn't equate to happiness, and 2) The love of money (not money itself) is the root of all evil |
and how does this lead to the advancement of this board in particular and the naija web dev market in general? Do you think it is like some company with stock that you have to ask who paid out the most in dividends? ![]() |
I don't recall seeing your email(s) but I apologize nonetheless. To avoid our emails being lost in translation, here is a link to the book: http://www.acewebdevelopment.net/ebooks/let-us-learn-something.php After reading it, in order to benefit others, do leave a note on this thread Enjoy, and spread the word! |
I wonder whats wrong with gathering google ad revenue?I guess you've missed my point so I will try to break it down to you, using Dual's response: <seriously>A forum is more than gathering people, setting up google ads and looking like the very forum you are advertising on. For crying out loud, be unique. Generally speaking, naija too dey follow follow. We seldom come up with anything original. All we do is consume. As I stated above, I salute their efforts though, IMHO, not well thought out. I don't know about you but I was turned off the minute it seemed to me I had to sign up before seeing any topics. In today's internet biz world, there is something called "freemiums". Like a drug dealer, you lure me in with free stuff then if part of your biz model, make me pay for extras. There is a book called "Don't make me think" by Daniel Krug. I hereby make it required reading for everyone on this board. |
Don't get me wrong, I love anyone who is willing to give anything a try but, sooner or later with such forums, you uncover the true reason for their being - google ad revenue |
nice wordpress customization |
yeah but i was under the impression most browser had to have php 5 upwardsBrowsers don't care what back end language you use. Perhaps you meant html 5? ![]() |
@yawa-ti-de: I just did the design, will soon start the SEO - Keywords, descriptions, and all,You may have just did it but you asked for a review nonetheless right? Here's an idea: in the future, specify what you want us to review so people like me, who don't do the basic reviews, will know what to skip ![]() |
2. Search engine friendlya) Semantic code b) code that validates c) pages that are content rich d) URL that makes sense e) meta tags for keywords and description are present f) images and links have appropriate alt and title tags respectively |
I viewed the source and the html is cleaner than a baby's behind but, without meta keywords and description, how am I supposed to find this thing on google? ![]() |
"It takes a man with more than three legs to climb on a tree higher than a mountain"This meat tough well well o ![]() Here is another: despite any age differences, small pikin pata dey fit some adult right? ![]() |
@yawa-ti-de check it not it ![]() |
Young, sorry if my comments came out wrong. At the time, I guess I was partly annoyed and partly amazed and consequently let my emotions take the better part of me. I hope I am forgiven and am happy you finally saw the light ![]() |
Sow wat r ur suggestions? I personally see 3: 1) Use an iframe or web service to hook up to someone else's (there are probably both free and paid versions though I am leaning towards the latter) 2) Implementing a javascript solution 3) Implementing a backend solution (php, jsp, etc) #1 sounds like the best option. That way, you are not becoming a zombie due to lost sleep as you are constantly monitoring whatever your source may be for the latest data. My concern here though is that you probably won't find reliable free solutions and the paid versions might get rather expensive. With options #2 and #3, you could get around the lag time, sort of, by posting a disclaimer like, "currency info on this page are accurate as of the past 24 hours" or whatever. In fact, I have seen sites display similar disclaimers. |
Now fellow programmers am not suprise on some1 getting a website but what am suprise is WHILE SHOULD A HAIR,wedding and beauty make up DRESSER NEED A WEBSITE, of what use is it? And is it not waste of Money.I don't even know how to start to reply this. When you go to buy food, do you think the seller says, "this guy is not even wearing an expensive suit. I wonder of what use isi ewu will be to him" or that rather the seller says, "thank God I have gotten yet another customer to help keep me afloat in this business" You have disappointed me man. Seriously ![]() |
Naija web industry has grown and has been growing for quite a while. What hasn't grown is a combination of those who want to kill it for everyone else by charging 12K per site on the on hand, and clients who because of such people, not appreciating what we do and hence want to pay 12K or less on the other. |
@OP put it to him this way then: Would you rather I do what you want to do, make you happy but be unhappy or would you rather it be the other way around? If he says balks, then rather than go against his wishes, as I firmly believe in Eph. 6, I would say do what he wants you to do but remind him that it might come back to haunt him. Then on the side, do what you love. Nothing wrong in having a back up plan. |
Again, try thickbox for starters. |
he he, donpuzo, which exception b dat? yawaException? ![]() I think pc_guru has said it all - XML tends to be bulky. JSON is preferred these days. Why I went on big grammar rant originally, looking back, I actually and honestly have no idea ![]() |
To make things less "scary", just either: 1) use javascript to change the source of the present image, using onmouseout and onmouseover. The code for this is pretty straightforward. After you get the basics down, you can venture into the world of sprites, spry, etc. 2) use pure css by changing the background image of your anchor tag on hover (a:hover) I personally would prefer #2 - cross-browser, SEO-friendly and takes care of situations where javascript is disabled. Good luck! |
jquery, for the most part, is cross browser. Visit ajaxrain.com and/or google for jquery solutions. You won't be disappointed. |
I would get someone he has high regards for to talk to him. Perhaps he will change. I don't know about now, but when I was growing up, many parents would force their kids to be either a lawyer or a doctor. The result? These kids would take jamb up to 5 times just to get the score. One could argue the sense in this either way but to me, I have been blessed with parents who allowed me to do what I had an interest in. That way, if I fail, I blame no one but myself. I ended up studying agric econs and passed my jamb, with the highest score in that university, the first time around. My point: Our parents (or some at least) need to stop forcing their kids to do what they don't want to do, career-wise, either because they are trying to live their lives through their kids or because they want to look good in front of their peers. They should give their kids a chance to be the adults they have grown up to be. Again, have someone your father has high regards for explain to him what I just said above. Hopefully he listens. Good luck! |
@Donpuzo: Sometimes you need to know where you have been and where you are, in order to know where you should be going and why. Chew on that. |
Do you need to be familiar with the basic tenets on math? Yes Do you need to be good at math? No Take me for instance, I had a C6 but I haven't done too bad for myself in the field ![]() |
reminds me of a song prayer we used to sing b4 lunch in nursery school. I will rephrase it to match the post: Some have eyes to see I gave the answer, but can not see Some can see that I have given them the answer, but have no eyes I have eyes and I can see Glory be, to God - Amen! |
