ProgrammingRe: Php Mail Function by yawatide(f): 4:59pm On Jan 21, 2010
Then you, my friend, are screwed tongue

Seriously though, if this is just for a "contact us" page, if you really need it, contact the host and ask if they support SMTP. If they do, ask why your code isn't working. Perhaps they need to "turn on" something on their end. If you don't really need it, since you say that emails with the domain's extension go through, just send the mail as usual and on the "thank you" page, indicate (though not necessarily true wink) that though your system for sending confirmation emails is down, they can rest assured that their email has been delivered and that someone will be contacting them soon. Where all else fails, just take out the form altogether and put up a page with the physical and email addresses of the company.

If the above doesn't work out, sorry I couldn't be of any more help.
ProgrammingRe: Php Mail Function by yawatide(f): 4:03pm On Jan 21, 2010
If it has been working everywhere else except this host, chances are that, and I speak based on experience with a couple hosts of late, the host has "turned off" the use of the mail() function due to its abuse by spammers.

The only way to get around this (I have been too lazy to do this myself and have thus resorted to pasting the actual email address on the "contact" pages of sites concerned grin) is to use SMTP to send mails on such hosts.

I hope this helps.
WebmastersRe: Problem With Mysql, Phpmyadmin. Pls Help by yawatide(f): 2:37pm On Jan 21, 2010
and where is the error statement?

Also, it seems you are trying to do everything in one line. It isn't helping, at least me, in following your code. I don't even see a call to your database (with host, username and password). Looking at it without the error statement, I would say, knowing fully well that there are 1001 ways to skin a cat, that everything about your code is wrong.

Post the error statement let's see.

tis the spam bot - you are probably using words that are triggering it.

what are those words? That is for Seun to disclose

WebmastersRe: Problem With Mysql, Phpmyadmin. Pls Help by yawatide(f): 3:09am On Jan 21, 2010
The format looks good to me.

When you run the code, what happens? Per the parameters, the host is what you will get from your webhost. Username/password is what you defined when you created the database.

good luck!
WebmastersRe: My Links Keep Showing Like Visited Links by yawatide(f): 3:07am On Jan 21, 2010
You have to understand the, "LoV HA" concept - Link, Visited, Hover and Active. You have to specify your CSS rules in this order, otherwise, it won't work.

Chances are that you are missing one of the above, hence the irregularity. Go back and check your CSS and/or paste your CSS here for review.

Thanks

WebmastersRe: Search Engine Help! by yawatide(f): 7:28pm On Jan 20, 2010
If losing your job isn't your portion, no matter what whoever tries to do, you will not lose your job. Conversely, if it is your portion, look at it as an opportunity to learn new things and to challenge yourself to do better, based on lessons learned from the old job. good luck!

Can I get an "Amen!"? cool
WebmastersRe: Search Engine Help! by yawatide(f): 6:31pm On Jan 20, 2010
you will have to wait for google's next "dance". Once they visit, if there is no more source of infection (however they choose to define it is up to them), then your site will be spidered and the warning will go away.

Other than the above, there is probably very little else you can do but wait.

good luck!

Seem like you guys here are Java fans. However, if you are interested in developing a website that is appealing to the eyes and wont turn visitors away, i will advice you stay away from any Java. In most cases, Flash can achieve most of scripting needs in a cleaner and scalable manner using action script. cf a Flash gallery vs Java gallery? Java is for cheap mobile phones and setup boxes!!!
Where do we find these people? huh huh undecided huh huh

in phpMyAdmin, after you create your database (you can also do this via phpMyAdmin), click your database name, click the "sql" tab to the left, and paste the above code in the window that ensues then click "go" and you should be good to go.

good luck!

WebmastersRe: Web Site For N1,000(php,html) by yawatide(f): 3:54pm On Jan 19, 2010
So, so far, there are 3 separate posts relating to web development services:

1) This one, advertising services for N1,000
2) Another, advertising services "at/for a low cost"
3) Yet another, advertising services for free

Question:
Which should I choose and why?

My use of big font is in response to post #12 wink

Prior to that post and despite all my years here, I didn't know how to use large font or how to change font color.  The poster "displayed" his "skills" and I was only doing same to make sure I got how it worked  tongue

Sorry for any inconveniences caused
WebmastersRe: Nigeria's First Web Conference Hold January 2010: And It Depends On You! by yawatide(f): 10:05am On Jan 19, 2010
Yes please, direct any potential sponsors and the like to the facebook page, where you have more control over who posts what. This thread should basically be a "redirect" to the facebook page, IMHO
WebmastersRe: Still Cant Get A Javascripot Ebook--pls Help by yawatide(f): 9:03pm On Jan 18, 2010
Yes, I did actually read it.  I was only giving my own opinion to, if you will, further reinforce what you said.

Is there any part of my previous post that implies in any way that I was disagreeing with you?  Am I no longer allowed to offer my own 2 cents on anything?

Lay off the cheap igbo and get the organic variety. Trust me, there is a difference.

WebmastersRe: Still Cant Get A Javascripot Ebook--pls Help by yawatide(f): 6:17pm On Jan 18, 2010
my opinion:
Let him learn javascript, even if it is a "javascript in 24 hours" book. Javascript can survive without jquery but not the other way around. It's like I tell people: book of mormon references the bible, same with catechism, same with koran. So why not just read what they are all referencing (aka the bible)?

After his "familiarization tour", he can then go for jquery et al. Tomorrow now, he has a problem and guess what the first thing he does is? You got it - he posts a "help with scripts" type post and expects us to answer it when he could have used his most basic of javascript knowledge to tweak the script himself.

Again, my opinion.

WebmastersRe: Inserting Newsletter Page Into Yahoo Email Compose by yawatide(f): 1:10pm On Jan 18, 2010
Yeah, most likely such newsletters are sent from those companies in html format, hence the proper formatting on their end.
WebmastersRe: Verifying Your Paypal Account by yawatide(f): 11:57am On Jan 18, 2010
the way out is nigerian developers coming up with their own, indigenous solution that is cheap, efficient and *that works*.  This, IMHO, is the only way to gain respect from the rest of the world.
WebmastersRe: Still Cant Get A Javascripot Ebook--pls Help by yawatide(f): 11:00am On Jan 18, 2010
that was one of the many books i read while i wanted to learn Javascript.
Hmm, does this mean that you no longer want to learn javascript and so dumped it? If yes, bad idea cool
WebmastersRe: Donpuzo's Site For Review by yawatide(f): 10:58am On Jan 18, 2010
Afam:
Yeah, i meant to say "inconsistency". Thanks for catching this. I will correct that after this post smiley

Donpozu:
I decided last year not to so much focus on layouts with respect to design as I came to the self-conclusion that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I have left that for the client to comment on. So now, I focus more on functionality which is at the core of a website, even if it is a 5-page website.
WebmastersRe: Inserting Newsletter Page Into Yahoo Email Compose by yawatide(f): 10:54am On Jan 18, 2010
Actually you can copy and paste and it will look exactly like the original newsletter. At least it has worked on my end. Maybe you need to update your settings to allow for the ability to send html mails.

Having said that, I actually prefer to attach such documents as pdf. This way you are sure that your formatting is preserved.

good luck!
WebmastersRe: Donpuzo's Site For Review by yawatide(f): 4:09am On Jan 18, 2010
1) I fill out the "sign up" module at the bottom of the page with "d" and "d (for password)".  I get a page that says the username/password doesn't exist, which is fine and fair but I am wondering why it is doing this on a white page, as opposed to a page that is similar to the preceding page.   In other words, there is global inconsistency, with respect to layout.

2) Seriously, you need to get rid of the "bookmark" alert box.  The days of using alert boxes to wow the customer are over  angry

One thing I do, which might be of help to you, and others, is to google for the site I want to do and look at the first say, 50 results. I then filter the wheat from the chaff with respect to what I like and don't like.

Give it a try. good luck!
