RAISING TURKEY FROM 6/8 WEEKS TO A TABLE SIZE.

This is one of easiest method of making money in Turkey business. This implies that you buy a Turkey of 6 or 8 weeks from farm that raise them from day old and nurture them till they are fully matured.

This is profit expectation from this aspect of Turkey farming:

I use the same 500 Turkey as case study;

Let assume you get your 500 turkey at the rate of #1700 from retail outlets; 500 × 1700 = 850,000.

Each Turkey within this period will consume about 27kg of feed. I will base my estimation onTop feed super pellet #3500/25kg bag. So 27kg of feed would be #3780 × 500 = 1,890,000

Other expenses and labour should not more than 400/per bird × 500= 200,000

Total expenses: 850,000 + 1,890,000 + 200,000 = 2,940,000

Sale: This depends on your location, in places like lagos,Abuja, porthacourt and other big developed cities, A tom of 8 months can go for between 10k - 15k.

South west especially "Ibadan" price for bulk purchase during festive period is around 8 - 9k.

Let assume we sale at 8000× 500 = 4,000,000.

4,000, 0000 - 2,940,000 = 1,060,000/36% net profit.

Note: if they are well manage, there is no reason you should have any mortality, this is because Turkey rarely die when they are of age except you neglected them for too long before you give them their medications. Apart from profit i stated above, you can make more if your Turkey didnt eat up to that feed, you buy your birds less than 1700 or you sell above price listed.

For foreign Turkey, you can get your 4 or 5 weeks at #4,000 or #5,000/bird.

Let say we get them at #5000×500= 2,500,000.

They are heavy eaters, just like broilers, so prepare to spend like 10k/bird on feed 10000 × 500 = 5,000,000.

Other expenses: at 200,000

Total expenses: 2,500,000+ 5,000,000 + 200,000 =7,700,000.

Sale: This also depends on your location but even in worst market place like Ibadan, you sell them nothing less than 20,000.

20,000× 500 =10,000,000

10,000,000 - 7.700,000 = 2.300,000/29.8%

Note: for both local and foreign turkey, you must try as much as possible to buy only males, if you cant get it from one source, try different sources untill they 're competed.

To be honest with you, all of them are good, and can give you alot of money if well manage.

Let me assume that the said demand for Turkey in PH must be "full grown Turkey"?

If yes and you really want a fast profit from your investment, i will advice you to go for Broilers, because it take appropriate of 5 month(foreignTurkey) and 6-8 month(local turkey) to be fully matured into market size. The same with pigs.

That is your other expenses i estimated to be 25k. You cannot even spend up to that except you have very serious diseases outbreak.

Besides, you dont need any veterinary service when you get trained and follow a standard procedure. You only need his service if he's the one to put you through on everything.

It depends on what people usually demands for in your area. Kindly make your research about that and decide which to invest in.

1. RAISING TURKEY FROM DAY OLD TP 6 OR 8 WEEKS.

This is most tedious and probably the fearest stage where you incure all the risk associating with Turkey farming. This is also a stage that will determine your success, it can made you, it can also destroyed you. I've seen people losing all their entire stocks at this stage. This stage requires a very good knowledge and technical know-how to be successful.

Unlike other birds, naturally Turkey are so fragile at young age, this make them susceptible to environmental hazard you might think is normal for other poultry birds. Once you seek for a requires knowledge and strictly follow it, the sky they say is your starting point.

This are profit expection of raising Turkey from day old to 6/8weeks.

Let me use 500 pouts here as case study:

500 pouts × 600 = 300,000 + 3,000 transport = 303,000

Turkey dont eat much like other birds so for that 6 weeks or 8, you will not need more than 15 or 25 bags of 25kg feed. I will chose professional feed here because, it gives fast result and make your Turkey look healthy.

25 bags Ultima super starter plus transport, 4000 × 25 = 100,000

Your other expense should not more than #50/bird = 25,000

Total expense: 303,000 + 100,000 + 25,000= 428,000.

If you are well trained or have an expert beside you, you should not lose more than 20 or 25 pieces. Let assume you lose 30 pieces, a 6 weeks old turkey goes between 1100 - 1200 whole sale and 1400- 1600 retail price. 8 weeks turkey 1400/1500 whole sale and 1800/2000 retail price.

If you manage to get 470, the calculation of feed above is for 8 weeks, they much less in 6 weeks 12 - 15 bags.

470 × 1400 = 658,000 - 428, 000 = 230,000 / 53.7%


Note: The above analysis is base on current market condition. During off season, July - November, Day old pouts price will drop to even less than #500. Though the selling price may remain the same, but the demand at this period wont be much.

Turkey can give you quite a lot of money within a short period of time if you can do what is necessary to achieve this.
