They are actually doing that because Nigerians vote along tribal and religious lines and not on the basis of competence. With the kind of mess the country is currently in, we need a technocrat, someone who has proved his mettle in his professional field, I don't even care which part of the country the person comes from, we made the mistake in 2015, let's not make it again.its only a fool that makes the same mistake twice

You raise a solid point. The nation needs like minded sanity, not merely dispersed worker bees doing their thing locally in dim obscurity. We cannot move into the calibre of saner comity of nations with illogical and ill-mannered leadership/followership. It simply is not feasible. Things have to largely change fast...our Rome wasn't built in a day adage is approaching a century without merit.

Hello guys. I just stumbled on this thread, and I'm hoping I will find someone here that can help with a movie title. I saw this Yoruba movie while I was young.. can't remember exactly when, but it has to be around the late 90s to early 2000s. In the movie, an old man was telling someone about the four types of bad humans that exist. He mentioned "Amoniseni", "Afaimoniseni", "Asenibanidaro", and "Ika Eda". He was narrating stories related to each as he was talking about them. Please who knows this movie and the title?

Y'ello!
I would also love to know this movie. Imagining a Tales by Moonlight type of production.

Interesting thread. Definitely sounds like what one gets to think about with the passage of time.

Indeed, we are all struggling to make a mark in the sands of time; what you all were deliberating on a decade ago, some new group would refer to 50 years from now! Sheesh. Lord have mercy. May I never forget what's real in this phase of existence!

Ah,
La la la was something different back then. He surely had a cool vibe about him as evidenced on his duet with Asa, as well as the Street Life.

He could have been the main ol' gee now if...big IF.

Blessings sir. Of course you should eat and be comfortable with them: you are their guest and it would be improper to do otherwise.

Just try to relate with them honestly and connect on a deep level. That they invited you over means your lady already sold you to her parents very well. One foot is in the door as it is!
Nairaland / General / Good Times Are These by yesboss20(m): 1:35pm On May 23, 2020
It's been a perfect season for agoraphobes and sociophobes while the claustrophobic have had a nightmarish experience.

"'The good, the bad and the uglies' of physical distancing cum socially distant, then altogether lock up and stay at home."

We all have periods when we feel the best, experience has taught us that there are situations which provide us with enough inner strength to see things through and we have come to believe that self is sufficient to pull through them. However, with novel occurrences, whomever can truly ever be prepared for them?

The coronavirus epidemic turned pandemic came at the worst of times for many. The world was only grasping at the new year with financial predictions and tradings only easing into gear when it struck. The Far East had been battling the virus prior but the majority of the world was consumed with their own affairs until it swung in like a storm, seemingly one country and region at a time and viola! We were all knee deep in its quick sand.

Two months in, and the world has never been so different, so shaken, so mellow and so on the precipice of a collective unity. Nations look on at the examples of their neighbours from far and nearby hoping they could learn from their confrontations with the pandemic and apply such knowledge to good use but the numbers have not been encouraging by any means; one could state it has only been the case of taking a step forward then three backwards for many a country.

Announcements of daily cases floods the dailies, with internet bloggers busily updating the stat sheets, nothing else seems to really make the news except where provisions are being shared to ease the growing tensions or palliatives in the form of monies slated to be distributed elsewhere. Humanity has been driven to the basic need to *survive* — feed for the day and look on in the hopes of surviving tomorrow. The scenes on the streets are akin to that of a zombie Hollywood movie, World War Z for instance, with major freeways deserted and the only distinction being that we do not get to see the brain-eating cadavers traipsing along the culverts and sidewalks of those roads. The inspiration behind those kind of movies has never been so aptly felt than now: we are practically living in The Walking Dead/Warm Bodies.

Psychologists hitherto classified us into social forms, or conditions, aided by varying preferences — the agoraphobes/epistolophobes who repel from clusters of people and spaces; the claustrophobes who lose their minds in shut-in spaces; those who feel a pulse of life when they go on shopping sprees and others with varying peevishnesses. Each and every of these groups have been at the receiving end of the ongoing happenings worldwide. No one is exempted but theirs has been intriguing from a scientific standpoint as one would imagine if there have been recorded cases of emergencies to the clinics/hospitals because a patient could no longer breathe or suddenly grew unresponsive only for consultations by the physician to reveal that he/she was a claustrophobe!

Ergo, have there been any death recorded from such peculiar patients or was the entire psychological detailing of such phenomena just a hodgepodge of bollocks informing us that psychologists were working? I wonder how many other self-proclaimed fields of study have given us near-truths all in a guise to appear knowledgeable and moving with the times! How much more lies have we been fed over the years by those using humanity to make a buck here and there, defining things which do not truly exist and claiming to know how to treat those phantom conditions in a heartbeat only for the patient to keep weekly appointments with the specialist paying outrageous fees in the process!

Invariably, the advent of change always brings with it a new seed of thought, a fresh introspective rush which could herald discarding previously held views, providing man with a better grasp of the world around him and also a deeper understanding of himself. This year has been one auspicious and unraveling harbinger of what is to come, and I daresay any one man can accurately forecast where the world will be post the corona pandemic. As the days go by, and we get to adapt a little more to the changes in our world, who's to say when all this goes away we would go back to business as usual? We just might prefer the ebbing nascent to the faucet origio.

Please i need some advice...am a student and am meeting my girl's dad this Sunday..am so nervous nd also the shy type.
I don't know if I should inform my mum cos she isn't aware of the relationship.
What are the likely things i should expect?

Brace yourself for a number of hard-hitting questions - what are your life goals? Where do you see yourself in 5, 10 years time? Where will our daughter worship (your place or at her family's place)? How often will you visit us as a couple? Will you even allow our daughter visit us at all? Can her siblings live with you? How do you plan to take adequate care of our daughter?

Those are by no means an exhaustive rundown of queries you might receive, but the method to answering them is honesty. If you and your lady haven't decided on a certain issue, tell her parents frankly. Let them know that you indeed cherish their daughter and shall cater for her to the best of your ability, even if you are still a work in progress.

Best of the best wishes.

Commentary on this thread has been both expected and stinky. The sheer number of guys hammering on point 6 reveals why we've got such a spike in bear-bellies in our society.

Are men so hungry or unashamedly shameless whenever food is set before us? The path to paradise isn't in the gut, is it? I nod in disapproval.

Biases are like opinions: everybody has one and they are often what they are, fickle and otherwise.
Alas, a disciplined man would be vexed at wasting food while a cultured mother might get displeased that her daughter's suitor feeds like a refugee!

Nevertheless, this is no one-size-fits-all therapy. Wisdom evolves with the gathering of knowledge.

I'm very grateful to the Almighty, they were only 2 who interviewed me today, it felt more like a friendly conversation than an interview, the older man was very funny and was always cracking jokes, I was very relaxed and composed, Just when I thought it was good,it got even better when they told me they were very impressed. My session was funny I came out smiling. Now I can rest. There's actually no reason to be afraid, just go out there and do you. This looks like a process that would be based strictly on merit. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Yes, the older man, a professor appeared to be the don in the oil and gas field. Both were very cordial and even the instructor was warm.

It is indeed strange how the spread of the internet has made people to know a lot of not useful things while the truly relevant information remain elusive to many!

The depicted tendency in animals is certainly not a discovery because it has been known in lands for ages. A dog on heat would hump anything and everything in its path - would caged up lions be any different??
There is always an alpha male in any group/unit of the animal kingdom - one who domineers over other members so it would do us much good not to get carried away.

The White man has many plans that they push out on the consuming world, and this might be another aimed at mind control.

Think and reason it out the break free from all mind control!

Thank you for the beautiful submission.

However I am yet to come across Oyiza Bread in the FCT.

Where can I get this loaf of bread please?

I will like to have a first hand experience.

Thank you

Good morning!

My apologies for seeing this late. For Oyiza, one would have to be in Central Area - from the Area 1-3 axis up into Garki 2 then I think at Karu/Kurudu as well. If memory serves me correctly, it's produced around the Keffi region.

For people in the North, I'd recommend Oasis (Ostrich) Bakery's big toast/coconut bread. They make exceptional pastries, even shoprite's does not put a dent on theirs. Their pizza is equally cool.
Check them out in Jos, Ilorin, Kano and Bauchi.

Wow!
Why hadn't I thought of this - a thread for bread-smiths! My love for bread is....buttered up!

Anyway, in response to the OP, the following are my favourite loafs within the fringes of Nigeria:
.OK Tantalizer bread - Ikot Ekpene, Aba and environs
.Sunrise bread - Ibadan, Ilorin and Ogbomoso
.My Joy bread - Oyo, Kwara and environs
.Oyiza bread - FCT
.Shoprite whole wheat bread - most shoprite stores nationwide.

Outside these mentioned, I have some other contenders depending on my prevalent pastry state. In the end though, hot agege bread na their mother! Freshly home baked buns works too.

I do learn new words, most especially when watching movies and i check the meaning almost immediately... But coz of the kinda friends i move with i dont get to use those words and as time goes on i forget does words...

You have defined your problem and in there lies the solution - get a crowd that would upgrade your grammar and one in which you could try out new words.

From experience, I used to try out those words with the same crowd I rolled with but never quite got inspired to move further. I resolved to writing them down in a book, with their synonyms/meanings and studying them periodically. That helped commit them into memory.
