uunwanaobong3:But how has WHO sided with China? That's the question I want answered objectively. It's not enough that some congressman tweeted something or that Trump said something. {My own personal thoughts: WHO can only work on surveillance data supplied by China. Nobody knows what went on in China, and anything we have learnt so far about the SARS-cov-2 virus right now wasn't from the Chinese.} Pls kindly share your own thoughts on why you think the WHO sided with China. Thanks |
RIP Sir |
cococandy:Mehnnn, Covid is giving me serious anxiety right now. Nothing seems to be working.. ![]() ajl:True, and that is why Nigerians in America need to come off their high horse and stop thinking they won't be treated same way their AA brothers are treated or won't face the same problems. Your skin remains black, and it won't save you o. Even Serena Williams despite her wealth and influence wasnt listened to when she had a lung embolism after having her baby. She had to practically insist on the tests they did before they discovered it. She would have probably died, if she hadn't insisted. They only listened to her because she had money, attitude and influence at the end of the day. Imagine if she was the regular poor or middle class black who doesn't have insurance or cannot afford the multiple tests? |
omoharry:Many do not have insurance, so most rely on A/E services as their healthcare. When you are poor (a point you have raised yourself), you cannot have insurance. Insurance is expensive o. Even the insurance in Nigeria is categorised and the correct ones ( which is probably basic compared to other nations) are very expensive. Can you afford 50K to 150K every month for insurance in Nigeria? The middle class people who have insurance are lucky as their companies may provide them with insurance but if you're poor and just do menial jobs like cleaning etc, insurance is a luxury and you only pray to God not to fall sick. You will see them in A/E when things have gone really worse for them. Now for the latter part of your post, there are poor neighborhoods in Nigeria and your covid centers won't save you when shit hits the roof . It seems we are providing good care now because our cases haven't escalated (and I pray they don't) For now, the covid centers have more staff than patients and are really for those mild to moderately ill. When severe covid strikes with multiple organ failure like kidney failure, respiratory failure we will see where you will turn to. How many dialysis machine do we have in Nigeria? How many can afford the dialysis machine? About 30 to 60 k per session. Even the ventilators (where only 20%of those put on it are able to come off it, meaning the other 80% will be allowed to die after sometime, i.e. they do not survive) will not help you, and are not even easily accessible and will be accessed only by your rich who have influence. Please, be careful about your choice of words, and learn to show some respect to covid o. No need to downplay it and limit it's power to only people with underlying issues becasue Covid has been shown to bite a lot of people in their asses. Governor of Oyo state caught Covid after talking thrash about it, It only got worse in the US after Trump said it was a hoax by his competition, It is humbling nations with all the access to healthcare- the UK's NHS is overwhelmed at the minute because of Covid. The world is grounded because of Covid. Healthy people with no underlying illnesses and obesity have also died in this brouhaha. Children are also not exempt from dying anymore, even though their cases are not as much. In short FEAR COVID19. The bastard corona is not here to play games with anybody whether healthy or underlying health issue. |

SoNature:Like they say, birds of a feather flock together Read this well: YOUR FRIENDS IN AMERICA ARE STUPID.
|
back2sender:Or perhaps lack of access to healthcare? |
SoNature:Still doesn't stop the fact that they remain stupid. It is what it is. I'm not here to trade insults with you because I assure you, I will take no prisoners. The world is facing a crisis right now, and I'm more concerned about that. |
SoNature:You are unfortunately very uninformed, and your friends are truly stupid . |
Those berating AA do not know their history in America. There has always been a systemic oppression of AA. They never had access to schools, communities they have managed to build up to a high standard were purposely destroyed by white supremacists, they have little access to healthcare, they have been used as experiments- Pls check out the Tuskegee syphilis experiment. And we have the guts to say they are lazy. Smh, their forefathers built America! May God forgive you Nigerians who will go to another man's country and start claiming superior. Any wonder why there is so much hostility by other blacks towards Nigerians? Anyway, lemme remind you all, you're still black and the gun of the whiteman will still make you bleed regardless of your class and pedigree. |
SoNature:Your Naija friends are stupid. Where they are now in America is due to the fight of the African Americans. They have no moral right to speak against AA. They are lucky because they never had any systemic oppression as AA have had all their lives. They , the Naija people grew up in nigeria with a sense of home, and had almost free education up to university level, before going straight to the US to take up the spaces created for AA. Why won't they have the guts to berate AA. They will soon look for a way to send them out of their country built with the AA sweat and blood, and we'll be shouting xenophobia upandan. Nonsense |
fairfora:You are right. Covid is no respecter of race Blacks in America seem to have it so bad because they have all sicknesses so bad in America, due to their poor access to healthcare. Many homeless people in NYC, and of course the spread will be crazy there America should do better in providing basic healthcare for all classes Hispanics too are also hit hard, even higher than the black community when you compare rates. |
Anyway, with regards to the funding, perhaps they should review it and even withdraw their funding. They can invest that money within their system making healthcare available to the poor people and to the homeless on their streets. Even middle class Americans are affected by this virus and can be ruined financially. Socialist healthcare systems can only benefit everybody. Unnecessary healthcare needs like cosmetic plastic surgery shouldn't be covered but they need to review their access to healthcare in the US. While withdrawing their funding of the WHO, they should also consider not putting their noses in other peoples affairs , and the.money used in sponsoring military bases in other nations can also be poured into their healthcare system. Win win for America. The nations who need WHO the most are African nations, so if other wealthy nations don't fund the WHO, our leaders will have to step in and perhaps start spending money appropriately. No more free vaccines for our childhood immunizations etc. Maybe this will give us all a brain too. |
ornicus:Faux news? A major part of the problem, hurting Trump and the US while they think they're helping him. |
ogaontop:There's little the WHO can do to China tbh. I don't think they even give aid or assistance to China. I doubt they have such powers Independent research takes time and observations which the virus isn't giving anybody. The only country they initially had was China, which withheld the information. WHO offices there too is probably filled with only Chinese people anyway. Its until it started affecting other nations that the virus and its spread is being studied in depth. Perhaps other nations can sanction them, but China seems to have most nations by their balls. |
cr7lomo:1. China has a lot of blame no doubt, but WHO only takes action on information given to them by a country. 2.Covid was also not a democratic hoax. 3.Trump also should be blamed for shutting down the pandemic response team as this was an invaluable resource in the US, that would have kept a close eye on this covid with information available to them. The responsibility to take action wouldn't have just been on Trump but on them. They would have offices in NYC and all states collating information and working together. That was the whole purpose of that agency. Eyes would have been on the covid long before it became widespread in the US. They would have started preparing for eventualities and would have long ordered PPEs, masks, ventilators before there was a scarcity. A better plan would have been in place to curtail the spread. When a leader does something right, I am all for applauding them. When they make mistakes, they need to be scolded and also accept responsibility. I really hope this pandemic stop, and there is a solution in sight. But hoping won't do the job of stopping it though, so we continue to do our best. |
We are reaching that point too. Pls, everyone needs to take this lockdown and social distancing seriously The US has about 19000 deaths so far, UK has 9000, Italy has almost 19000 too. This is a serious thing o |
cr7lomo:I repeat, I'm not talking about shutting the borders. That's why I gave examples of South Korea and Sweden who are not doing lockdown in their cities. 1.Trump gave a lot of false reassurances and misleading information about this virus. From calling it a democratic hoax, to saying its like the flu which would go away like a miracle. (You should watch some of those his videos /press briefings where he appears like a Nigerian pastor and not the POTUS) 2.Trump dismantled the pandemic response team in the USA, which was set up by the Obama administration ( during the Ebola crises in West Africa) to guide the country through any possible pandemic. That was a bloody proactive move by Obama, and the US would have taken all the accolades that they were prepared for a pandemic even though the world saw non coming. Infact, it would have made them appear like seers in this present times. 3. He chose not to act when he got the information in Dec about this virus, thinking only of the economic impact. But he could have still taken some action without needing to shut the border and impacting their economy so badly. South Korea is doing so at the moment. 19000 people are dead in the US now, Over 2000 died in the last 24 hours. We're still counting. NOTHING was done because he didnt even believe in the virus, and called it a hoax despite all the information available to the most powerful man in the world, surrounded majorly by the best brains. 4. No country in the world was prepared for this, and many countries are facing a backlash from their citizens. So I cannot single out US and say they've done so woefully. My major problem with him is blaming everybody else. Nobody is perfect, there is obviously some lapses in judgement by the leaders of many nations, including Nigeria (we seem to have followed the path of the US) but nobody is blaming others here except the US. (Of course everybody blames China for not being forthcoming about the disease in their country) You and Trump have blamed the democrats, you're now picking on the WHO too. Yet refusing to accept the parts you have played in it's spread in the US. People felt safe because POTUS said so not knowing we were allowing it to spread, we all started using Chloroquine all over the world because POTUS said so. There's a lot of power AND responsibilities attached to the office of the POTUS. We celebrate its successes and we also decry its failures. I really have no bad feelings for Trump, but many lives have been lost at this point. |
cr7lomo:I dont hate Trump. Other world leaders are not blaming other people for their failures. That is the difference. Germany hasn't come out to blame anyone, Italy hasn't come out to blame anyone, UK hasn't blamed anyone. They're all too busy fighting the virus It's definitely not about lockdown. There's not one single place I mentioned lockdown in any of my posts on here. Till date, there is no lockdown in Sweden, and their date rate isn't higher than other scandinavian countries even (though they have a higher population and higher absolute numbers). Their numbers are a 100 times better than America, UK, Italy. Sweden's numbers are expected to rise because they haven't really put much in place, but we watch and see There is also no lockdown in South Korea either, and the measures they've put in place seem to be working for them. |
Where are the swollen legs? |
Nodogragra4me: ![]() True talk. They are protecting the president, hence everyone has to wear mask. |
nkwuocha1:Buhari doesn't live alone in Aso rock, you know. Corona is/was in Aso rock. That much has been confirmed Even though Osinbajo and Buhari are both negative, there are other people in Aso rock. He would have interacted with people he doesn't know their status right from the outer gate of Aso rock. From the various security details to housekeeping staff, he would have come into contact with before seeing the president. Meanwhile, where is Abba Kyari? It's been over 2 weeks or longer he was confirmed with the corona virus. Are the Chinese here to treat him, or he has been transferred to Cuba/Germany? Please who has an idea? |
GamalNasser:Don't be so rude, but then can anything better be expected from you? Certainly not |
luckshine007:I don't even watch CNN. Let's hear what Cuoma, NY mayor has to say about Trump my dear. He is the one in charge of the crises in the state most hit with the highest recorded deaths of over 7000 people in the US. He has also been very proactive and active in trying to contain the disease. It's just like comparing Buhari to Sanwo Olu in the management of the crises in Nigeria. Our lapses aren't showing yet because it's not widespread yet. We hope it doesn't get to that level, because it will become all man for himself. If Trump doesn't sit tight now and face governance in managing this crises, the WHO DG's prediction of more body bags will come to pass. It's not about hating Trump. I normally try to avoid putting mouth in US policies, but this time around it's worldwide. If the US sneezes, almost the whole world will catch a pneumonia. Trump mentioned chloroquine, and immediately almost all countries in the world jumped on it. They also knew about chloroquine as it is documented in the medical books of old, as a possible treatment for the corona virus family but no proper studies were done. Till date, America and several other countries are still doing their studies on the chloroquine angle, yet we're all jumping on chloroquine. Some countries have stopped using it now sha, as it was causing more side effects in their Corona patients and they felt worse with the chloroquine . Anyway, my point is Trump should face the covid crises squarely. He should stop pointing accusations around. After the whole crises, he can then start facing perceived enemies, things, politics. He seems to be only thinking about reelection for now, forgetting that corona wouldn't just go away, and he's the man at the helm of affairs. |
GenSam:Yes, trust them at your own peril. Nigeria doesn't seem to know this though. They are desperate |
cr7lomo:Trump isn't doing his best. He has not been so supportive of the governors in the states badly hit, and the governors are the ones doing their best. Trump also had same information the WHO had in Dec, he knew about the virus for months and downplayed it and caused a delay in the response of the US to this virus. -The same Trump dismantled the pandemic response force set up proactively by Obama during the Ebola crises. He fvcking dismantled it. How useful would those resource have been during this period for the American people. It's all on video, so nobody can say it's a lie. Trump has been passing wrong information left, right and center about this virus crises. He downplayed it too much and never listens to advice from the experts he has around him. All caught on video, so it's not a matter of dem say , dem say. -He said it was a democratic hoax, a fake news put out there by Democrats, and refused to act early on it. - He said it is contained when it apparently wasn't - He said it would miraculously just go away. He kept on giving false assurances to the American people despite having information of the havoc it has started to cause in New York. He put his people's life in danger -He came out publicly to give us chloroquine just so it would appear as though he's doing something, but Chloroquine doesnt seem to be doing Jack at the minute and people are complaining of it's side effects more. His problem is that he never listens to the experts he surrounded himself with. Why bother employing all these people with marvellous portfolios and experiences when you won't bloody well take their advice? P.S- I do not hate Trump, but he hasn't handled this crises well if we tell ourselves the truth. Almost 19000 are dead in US as of today. Even 911 didnt cause this much death. Please, Nigerians should continue to take this virus seriously. It's not joking with anybody o. I know it's hard to stay home indoors because of hunger, but when push comes to shove, you will see the food and can't eat it . Let's all support each other, if you can afford to share food to families that are struggling pls do so. Be your brother's keeper this period, for the common good. |
justwise:You are right about that. Trump unfortunately doesn't want to accept responsibility for his failures in handling this crises. He truly believed it would go away like magic, but corona isn't having that. He never seems to take the advice given by his experts and just does his own thing. Dr Fauci has had to go round all media to clean up the misinformation Trump has been giving to the American people about this disease. He should let them talk and brief people instead of him doing the talking. He has blamed everyone but himself in this crises, he has blamed the governors majorly affected, he has blamed the Democrats, he has blamed WHO. China is really keen on taking over the position as world power in everything, including technology. Interesting but sad times we're in now. So sad that many lives are lost and even more to come, and many economies are going down in shambles. |
ednut1:WHO can only give information that is fed to them. China held out on a lot of information. Everyone is only just learning about this particular corona virus. It's a new virus It was initially thought to be strictly a zoonotic disease/animal - to- man transmission when it first started in Wuhan animal market. Seen in people from the market , but later noticed to spread even amongst those who've never been to the market. Their Drs told their Chinese govt, but they ignored the warnings and even tried to silence the Drs. Much information wasn't coming out of China, until one of their Drs decided to make it public on social media or so, about the extent of the disease and what they're battling with. The young Dr is dead now from Covid (or who knows what their govt did to him) and another whistle blower Dr has been missing for sometime now. Nobody knows where she is, whether in a concentration camp o, or she's been killed by their govt, or she ran away for her life, nobody knows. Till date, the exact number of deaths in China is speculative because you can't even trust their figures but we still take the numbers they give us like that. If Sierra Leone (or is it Liberia) had tried to cover up the last major Ebola crises and not quickly asked for help, it would have also become a pandemic, or spread much more around the world. That's even for Ebola, an old disease that has been in existence since the 70s. We are all still learning about this virus, so we can only continue to observe for sometime. Like I said, it was initially thought to be only from animals, then later droplets, again later discovered to be airborne, and even now thought to be spread by contact. We don't even know if those who've recovered from it will have long term complications or not. |
