Strong indications emerged yesterday that the Peoples Democratic Party is trying to woo the recently-released Major Hamzat Al-Mustapha, a former Chief Security Officer to the late Head of State, Gen. Sani Abacha, to win Yobe and Borno states from the All Nigeria Peoples Party(ANPP).

The President and his strategists have also launched a fresh plot to win more states in the North-West in 2015.

It was learnt that the permutations of the presidency is that the control of some states in the North-West and North- East could leave the North divided in 2015.

The presidency was said to be trying to adopt the strategy of ex-President Shehu Shagari who in 1982 granted state pardon to the late Biafran leader, Chief Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu.

The pardon had enabled the defunct ruling National Party of Nigeria(NPN) to make inroads into the South-East which was then controlled by Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe-led Nigerian Peoples Party(NPP).

Investigation also indicated that PDP is trying to use Al-Mustapha leverage to checkmate its rebellious governors like Rabiu Kwankwaso(Kano), Aliyu Wammako (Sokoto); Sule Lamido (Jigawa); Babangida Aliyu (Niger); and Murtala Nyako (Adamawa).

A reliable source said: “The plot is a two-dimension type. The PDP wants to bank on Al-Mustapha’s image to capture Yobe, Borno and Zamfara being controlled by ANPP.

“The renewed political romance between President Goodluck Jonathan and ex-Governor Ahmed Yerima of Zamfara State seems to be pointing to this desperate bid by the President and his strategists to make inroads into the North-East and North-West.

“Yerima had taken some marabouts to the President some weeks ago to “pray” for Jonathan’s good health and 2015 agenda.

“Besides, you will recall that a few months ago, Yerima and ex-Governor Modu Ali Sheriff met with the National Chairman of the PDP, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, in Abuja. So, the plot was conceived a few months back, but Al-Mustapha might be used to crystallize it.

“The larger picture is to change the political tempo in the North by bringing Al-Mustapha into the PDP to reduce the influence of some out-of-presidency favoured Northern governors like Rabiu Kwankwaso (Kano), Aliyu Wammako ( Sokoto); Sule Lamido (Jigawa); Babangida Aliyu (Niger); and Murtala Nyako (Adamawa).”

The source, however, said the prime targets of Al-Mustapha’s deal are Yobe and Borno states.

Investigation by our correspondent revealed that some PDP chieftains have already made a proposal that the way to end the domination of the ANPP in Yobe and Borno states is to make Al-Mustapha the arrowhead of the party’s plot.

Findings showed that the Minister of State for Finance, Alhaji Yerima, had allegedly met with Al-Mustapha and hosted a dinner in honour of the ex-CSO.

Checks indicated that the PDP had initiated secret talks with Al-Mustapha on why he should team up with the party to improve the lot of his people in Yobe.

Although it was unclear as at press time on Al-Mustapha’s disposition, it was gathered that some PDP bigwigs have already penciled down the ex-CSO for the governorship slot as its automatic candidate.

The leakage of the plot has created a cold war between Governor Ibrahim Geidam of Yobe State and the Minister of Finance.

It was learnt that the minister was allegedly shunned by the governor on Tuesday when he brought some presidential relief materials to Damaturu (Yobe State capital) for victims of Boko Haram.

The cold shoulder rubbished plans by the minister and the presidential delegation to make a political gain from the relief materials.

A highly-placed source said: “ The PDP is determined to control Borno and Yobe states. This is why Al-Mustapha’s option is on its card at present.

“But Al-Mustapha has not made any commitment to join partisan politics or not.

“The Governor of Yobe State is, however, not taking the plot lightly leading to a cold war between him and the Minister of State for Finance.

“I think other Northern political leaders and governors are still studying the situation.”

Graduating with a 2-2 or 3rd class didn't meant the end of the world, what really matters is the level of aspiration and determination to excel in you, considering different factors that should be taken into consideration in the grade of a Nigerian graduate, 2-2 or 3rd class shouldn't be used to determine the level of intellectuality, i personally graduated with a 2-2 in Computer Science, went for my masters abroad and graduated with 1st class, excel in different professional certification i never thought i could pass...and presently getting many offers for fully paid PhD scholarship in top universities in US.

We all know the problem with Nigerian educational system, ranging from randy lecturers to poor teaching facilities, the most important thing is to get something extra on top that 2-2 or 3rd class, either professional certificate or masters program and you would be glad you did.

The NDPVF leader in an interview with
journalists in Lagos, said his kinsman had lost the sympathy and support of well-meaning Nigerians.

The former President of Ijaw Youth Council, however added that it was not too late for Jonathan to reconcile with former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

He noted that if the president wanted to regain confidence of Nigerians, he should urgently deliver on his electioneering promises.

He also advised the number one citizen to do away with self seeking and selfish aides around him. Asari-Dokubo further attacked the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati, describing the latter’s reaction
to his last interview as “arrant nonsense, rubbish and childish.”

“I don’t want to reply Abati, the famous author of crab theory, who was desperate to defend his boss just because he wants to justify his wages. What does Abati know? Am I struggling to be President in 2015?” “What is the correlation between why is the East/West Road not being constructed and the poor performance of the Presidency, including the inability of President Jonathan to curb corruption in his administration and the crab theory by Abati?”

“Abati is just childish; his arguments were baseless, just struggling and managing to salvage the dwindling fortunes and sagging image of the
Presidency.”

On the rift between the President and OBJ, Asari-Dokubo debunked claims of the Presidency which states the contrary: “Everybody knows
that there is a quarrel. Has Obasanjo not been criticising Jonathan openly?
“Has Obasanjo not said that he was not prepared to keep quiet if things are wrong? Do you need to be told that there is a rift when Obasanjo, who took his position as the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, BoT, of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, as between life and death suddenly gave up the job just like that?”

“Was it not reported that Obasanjo has threatened that Jonathan would not be president in 2015 and that he (Obasanjo) vowed to continue to criticise him (Jonathan)?” Asari-Dokubo added that he was ready to assist Jonathan win again 2015.

He however stated that the president was not very focused, and that the North could use the advantage of his inadequacies to defeat him.

“I am ready and willing to help him in 2015 but there is something wrong with him (Jonathan), he has been hijacked by some people and he is not doing anything to remove them. Jonathan is not on course at all. Jonathan is destroying his presidency”.

“For instance, he got to power majorly by the support of the social media that is the vehicle in which he was brought to power but as I am
talking to you today, he has lost all his Facebook fans. He (Jonathan) is going down every day.”

“How can he (Jonathan) deliver when everybody around him are sabotaging him? The people around Jonathan are vicious but somebody like me will not keep quiet to allow Jonathan to lead us to avoidable bloodshed.”

Asked if he was ready for a truce with the Presidency, Asari-Dokubo stated, “I am not ready to be called by anybody because I went to him (Jonathan) many times to intimate him that his conduct would bring disgrace to us. I told him that my brother, you are not doing well.

My conscience is very important to me, I cannot keep quiet at all, it makes me sick. “But I am and will continue to fight for him (Jonathan), for the Ijaw nation, the South/South
and the deprived people, who stood by him (Jonathan). What Jonathan represents is greater than him.

“The Presidency does not need to reach out to me. Jonathan is not representing himself, Presidency is not the personal property of Jonathan; it is the property of those who died throughout the country to make him the president of Nigeria in 2011.”

The former militant leader described the former BoT Chairman of PDP, Chief Tony Anenih as “a liability to the Presidency,” saying it was
unfortunate that Jonathan continued to associate with Anenih despite his “credibility baggage.”
“For me as a person, I believe in the sayings that ‘show me your friend, I will tell you who you are. For Goodluck Jonathan to continue to
associate with Tony Anennih despite a series of allegations against him is unfortunate.”

“But there is a remedy for him (Jonathan) because he has two years more, ending on May 29, 2015, if he can make amends. Let him genuinely reconcile with Obasanjo, his benefactor, listen to and align with Nigerians, who elected him in 2011.”
“Let him severe and cut off the people around him, who never wished Nigeria and Nigerians well and redeem the battered image of his administration by delivering on his electioneering promises to Nigerians.”

“Jonathan should be prepared to fight injustice and corruption in the remaining two years and remove the deadwoods in his government and move the nation forward.

“All hopes are not lost if he can make amends but his chances of re election in 2015 is slim and narrow if the present trends of inactivity by his administration continue.”

The Federal Government has expanded its list of fuel suppliers to include companies previously named in a multi-billion dollar subsidy fraud investigation, reports Reuters Nigeria has expanded its list of fuel suppliers to include companies previously named in a multi-billion dollar subsidy fraud investigation, sources familiar with the matter said, while large global trading houses have been left empty-handed.

Africa’s most populous country, which relies on fuel imports because it lacks the capacity to refine its own crude oil, tried to remove fuel subsidies last year but was forced to partially reinstate them after a wave of strikes and protests. A parliamentary investigation later found the subsidy’s administration had facilitated around $6 billion of corruption over three years, with half the approved fuel imports never arriving or being sold to neighbouring countries.

“Nigerian authorities have taken some measures to improve controls,” said Marc Gueniat of Swiss NGO. The Berne Declaration which campaigns against corruption in the developing world. “But the fact that certain companies accused of participating in the fraud are continuing to benefit from
allocations raises the question of whether the political will to change is sincere,” he added. Nigeria’s gasoline subsidy soaked up 1 trillion naira ($6.2 billion) last year, equivalent to 20 percent of the federal budget and exceeding a budgeted 888 billion naira. The list of gasoline importers compiled by Reuters using information from five sources showed around 3.4
million tonnes was allocated for the third quarter to more than 40 companies, expanded from 30 last year.

The list showed four companies that failed to cooperate with parliament’s probe were named as suppliers. These were Nepal, Fresh Synergy, Ibafon and Techno, which the parliamentary report showed collectively claimed for subsidies of nearly $60 million. Nepal’s website lists its CEO as Ngozi Ekeoma who has twice been arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission in relation to fraudulent subsidy payments. She has pleaded not guilty to the charges. Phone calls to her company went unanswered.At least three other companies awarded third quarter allocations – Masters, Matrix and MRS – were also ordered to account for their shipments or refund falsely claimed subsidy money in another government report released last June.

Matrix provided documents to Reuters showing it had since been exonerated by authorities. The other firms declined or did not respond to repeater request for comment by email and telephone. It was not clear if these companies had since repaid their debts or been cleared. The finance ministry would not comment on specific firms but provided a document which showed that in total only 14 billion naira out of 232 billion in questionable claims, or around 6 percent, had so far been refunded. The ministry has previously said importers will not be delisted so long as they paid back money owed to the state. Effective controls? Absent from the list are large trading houses like Vitol , Mercuria and Trafigura which have historically played an important role in supplying fuels to Nigeria but have been replaced by local firms. However, some still provide fuels indirectly to the country or via crude-for-product swap deals.

The government has arraigned some fuel marketers and industry sources say fuel regulator the Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency (PPPRA) has introduced measures designed to limit abuse of the system. PPPRA did not respond to request for comment. Nigeria has already spent $1.2 billion on subsidy payments this year and economists say any sign of a spike in subsidy costs could risk Africa’s second largest debt issuer spending oil savings or widening its
budget deficit. Industry sources suggested the rise in the number of importers may have been partly an attempt to stave off future supply problems, as some importers struggled to get bank loans. “What they are doing now is giving smaller allocations to more and more companies because of the credit situation. The number is creeping higher and it could be a cause for concern if it continues,” said Dolapo Oni, oil and gas analyst at Ecobank. The supply list showed Nigerian energy firm Oando PLC won the biggest allocation of 135,000 tonnes while Total and Folawiyo, in which global commodity merchant Glencore is a minority stakeholder, won 90,000 tonnes each.

Addition of a single lane to the existing two lanes on either side, is nothing but ridiculous for a $1B(1 Billion Dollars) project. This is the most busiest road in this country, it deserved nothing less than standard 10 lanes, 5 on each side with well-lit center ,and full emergency services along the route. A typical retardeen-led PDP goverment contract as usual.

Did you think Okupe is so daft to indicate that it's 3 additional lanes to sagamu?....what Okupe is simply saying is that....1 extra lane will be added from lagos to sagamu...and the existing 2 lane from sagamu to Ibadan will be repaired. I passed through the road axis yesterday, the only work I can see is the plan to add 1 more lane to existing 2 lanes making 3 lanes to sagamu. There is nothing different in this contract from the typical contract awarded by the retardeen led government...just a way of looting the treasury further.
