The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), says it could tomorrow arraign some fresh suspects implicated in the fuel subsidy scam.

In a press statement today, the commission said it plans to bring before Justice Habeeb Abiru of the Lagos High Court Ifeanyi Anosike, Emeka Chukwu, Ngozi Ekeoma, Alhaji Adamu Aliyu Maula, George Ogbonna and Emmanuel Morah. The companies involved are Anosyke Group of Companies Limited, Dell Energy Limited, Downstream Energy Sources Limited and Rocky Energy Limited.

It said that the suspects are among several suspects scheduled for arraignment by the Commission over the theft of N10.6billion in dubious subsidy claims.

Anosyke Group of Companies, Ifeanyi Anosike, Dell Energy Limited, Emeka Chukwu and Ngozi Ekeoma will be arraigned on an eight count charge bordering on conspiracy to obtain by false pretence; forgery and uttering false documents to the tune of N1.53 billion, being payments fraudulently received from the Petroleum Support Fund for a purported supply of 15,000 metric tonnes of Premium Motor Spirit.

The statement also said that Downstream Energy Sources Limited, Alhaji Adamu Aliyu Maula, Rocky Energy Limited, George Ogbonna and Emmanuel Morah will be facing trial on an eight count charge of conspiracy to obtain property by false pretence; conspiracy to forge documents, forgery and uttering false documents to the tune of N789, 648,329.25, being payments fraudulently received from the Petroleum Support Fund for a purported supply of 14,273,0227 litres of Premium Motor Spirit.

An explosion shook an area around an outdoor bar in the city of Jalingo , police said Friday, with local media reporting that up to three people killed.

“There was an explosion at a beer garden in the Dorawa area of the city,” said police spokesman Amos Olaoye, without providing further details.

The explosion occurred at Dorowa Ward off Barde Way in Jalingo at about 7.40 p.m.

At the Federal Medical Centre, Jalingo, a Medical Officer, Dr Umaru Yakubu, disclosed that one person was confirmed dead while three others whose conditions he described as critical, were rushed to the theatre of the hospital.

He also said that eight others whose injuries were mild were receiving treatment at the accident and emergency ward of the hospital.

Jalingo is the capital of Taraba state, which has been occasionally hit by violence blamed on Boko Haram.

Dorowa is a popular drinking joint in Jalingo where both the local brew, “Burkutu” and “Ogogoro” as well as other assorted alcoholic drinks are sold.

Bars have sometimes been targeted by the Islamist extremists, though crime and local disputes have also led to such incidents.

Taraba’s state parliament on Thursday impeached the deputy governor over allegations of corruption, local media reported.

fifteen year-old- girl, Miss Udoh Comfort, yesterday, narrated before a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, how her guardian, one Mr Francis Ekong, 40- years, forcefully
slept with her three times and got her pregnant.
Comfort who came to court with her 6- month-old baby, told the court
that the man perpetrated the illegal act when his wife was not at home, adding that Ekong threatened to send her back to the village any day he saw her with any boy.

The girl, who mounted the witness box yesterday, told the court that she confronted
Ekong upon discovering that she was pregnant, only for the man to
blatantly deny responsibility, alleging that she must have slept with one of the
boys in their neighborhood.

She said it was at that juncture that somebody took her to the National Agency
for Prohibition of Traffic in Person and Other Related Matters,
NAPTIP, a move that culminated to the arrest and subsequent trial of her guardian
and his wife.

In a two count charge that was filed before the high court, NAPTIP, alleged that Ekong who resides at Mpape Ajugula Street, FCT, Abuja, �on or about May
2010, caused the unlawful carnal knowledge of Miss Udoh Comfort (F) 15 years old of
Akasoko, while she was under your custody and thereby committed anoffence
punishable under section 13(1) of the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Law
Enforcement and Administration Act, 2003 as amended.�
Count-2 of the charge entered against both the man and his wife, reads:
�That you Mr Francis Ekong (M) 40 years old and Mrs Margaret Ekong (F) 30 years old of Mpape Ajugula Street, FCT, Abuja, sometime in 2008, within
the jurisdiction of this honourable court, employed Miss Udoh Comfort (f) 15 years old of Akasoko as a domestic help and thereby committed an offence punishable under
section 22 (1) of the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Law Enforcement and
Administration Act, 2003 as amended.

pm, her husband
poured petrol on

and fire caught
her immediately.
She was nearly
consumed by the
fire but for
passers-by that
rescued her.

said, “I saw him
coming towards
me, as he got
nearer, he
ordered my
customer to
leave and as I
tried to run for
my dear life, he
poured petrol on
me and fire
caught up with
me immediately.

2012 when

his wife went for

friend who stays
beside their
residence at 22,
Olaoluwa Street,
Abaranje,
Ikotun. “As we
got to the party,
my friends who
were also
present were
hailing me, calling
me ‘Indomie’,
because I was
known for selling
Indomie. I was
invited to sit on
the chairs they
have organized
for friends.
Adesanmoye
was sitting right
beside me.
“After some
time, my friend,
a vulcanizer,
Taye offered me
a bottle of wine,
but I rejected it
at the first
instance because
I was on my
menstrual period
and I don’t want
to take anything
alcoholic. But
when the
pressure from
my friends was
too much,
pestering me to
take the wine, I
decided to take a
cup.
“Immediately
Adesanmoye
saw me finish
the cup of wine,
he got up and
started going. I
ran after him to
ask what went
wrong. To my
surprise, he
started abusing
me and asking
why do I have to
collect a drink
from a friend in a
party while he
was sitting right
beside me, and
why do I have to
kiss a friend in
the party too?”
Janeth narrated
in pains.
The Isoko
woman, who
noted that her
husband
(Adesanmoye)
could kill her if
she should say
anything
whenever he is
angry, pointed
out that she
never said
anything in
response to her
husband’s
allegations.
“My husband has
always been
jealous. He used
to beat me every
time under any
guise and excuse.
I have tried
several times to
leave him but he
always
threatened to
harm me. I
stayed with him
because I was
afraid of him and
my life. He
always told me
that I could never
escape from him,
except I leave
Lagos State.
Anytime I said I
was leaving him,
he would say, no
problem, that he
would do
something to me
that I will not
forget. Now, see
what he had
done to me.
He wanted to kill
me” she added.
An unconfirmed
source intimated
Crime Alert that
Adesanmoye
was later
arrested and
detained at the
Ikotun Police
station. His
relatives were
alleged to have
called for
amicable
settlement,
offering the
victim a sum of
N100, 000 (One
hundred
thousand), which
the victim
reportedly
rejected.
She however
called on the
government to
ensure that her
husband paid for
what he did to
her, adding “am
an orphan. I have
no father or
mother. I sell
Indomie to live.
Now, I’ve spent
all my money. In
fact, I need help.”
