oyatz: Ogori is a mixture of Yoruba +Ebira.
If you go to their group Facebook page, most of them identify as Yorubas. They don't learn Yoruba before speaking the language in addition to their distinct language.
I know one family from Ogori.
The case of Ogori-mangogo illustrate an important point that most commentators on Nairaland often fail to acknowledge; there are always areas of overlap in ethnic homelands.
Kogi State is like a mini-Nigeria with many tribes.
. They might have a Yoruba root, and Facebook isn't what you should used in judging. Nothing Yorubaish about their language called Oko. Even Some Ebira bear Yoruba names, does that make them Yoruba? Only Okun should be called Yoruba but as an Okun boy who has lived in South West before, I chose not to be called Yoruba cos of the tribalistic nature of Yoruba people. They don't know the difference between Ebira and Okun. To them, anybody from Kogi is Ebira and they say that in a condescending manner like you are inferior. How is Ebira and Okun the same? No similarity. Yet those uninformed tribalistic bigots would open their dirty mouths to talk down on you like they are better. No matter how horrible or poor they are, they automatically have this energy to feel superior to you. Nonsense. So why should I associate myself with such stupid people? I like how Kabba people don't like being called Yoruba. It's Yagba people that you would see claiming Yoruba. I only fill Yoruba on paper or when I want to avoid explaining. |

oyatz: Not necessarily sir.
Although most Yorubas in Kogi are proud of their Yoruba identies but there are some groups that may wish to stand alone like some of the Ogori-mangogo people who also have partly Ebira ancenstries, though they bear Yoruba names and speak Yoruba language Ogori isn't Yoruba nor Okun. They are stand alone. They just bear Yoruba names. They have distinct language too. |

Landmack: Op u gave mom 50k and Dad 60k for what na?
i know it's ur money not mine...but u deserve a knock on ur head
Dad will use that money and go drink beer and chop isiewu. Mom will definitely use out of that money to cook small soup for herself and Dad. mom will use that same money to buy small pepper and onions for the house.etc
You no try...u should have made hers higher. women spend more for themselves and their family. Family dynamics are different. Your father is a drunkard doesn’t mean other fathers are same. Shame on you. |

slawormiir: Damnnn niggar Isoright
This bros op is not a real niggar
Why give your father 60k
For me it would have been
My father 20k...
Mother 90k
At times mothers can spend money while fathers will just be stingy with theirs...they will be buying beer and if possible be spending it for another woman
While mothers will spend that same money in cooking and buying all small small kitchen ingredients..they will also spend it for the rest of your siblings before you know it that money will finish.... If your father was useless, doesn't mean you should judge all fathers same way |

Elsueno: Nairaland is really amazing woh, see someone in the extreme corner of Nigeria trying to educate me on what I have experience several times . Boko Haram & Iswap does not have SURFACE TO AIR MISSILE, if they did the military jets & helicopters would have not even be able to operate...even with thier RPG they struggle to hit tanks & vehicles tallkless of a flying chopper. Do u have any idea how many helicopters hover around that state daily? pls do not talk about what u do not understand, Iswap/BH do not just wake up & attack a military outpost( terrorists get decimated at bases). Pls stop getting swered by thier propaganda. fact is, if not for save heavens in neighboring countries, the armed forces would have wiped out these guys a long time ago Kindly explain this "if not for save heavens in neighboring countries, the armed forces would have wiped out these guys a long time ago " |

I will advise your friend to accept the job offer, the State capital is very safe. It is only the villages that are prone to attacks. As long as you don't travel by road you are safe in Maiduguri. Don't loose this golden opportunity. But can a soldier decide he doesn't want to stay in such place? If no, can the soldier resign |

Ruggedfighter: I'm trying so hard to understand the message you're trying to pass across, honestly. Those who will understand will understand. I won't because of a few who are antagonistic won't say my OPINION. OPINION that would be beneficial to those who are clueless about what they want really in life. The tone might sound harsh but you would think back and thank me or curse yourself if after 10years at home your mates are unto something great but you are at home chasing medicine with nothing to show for. Think deeply, do you really want this or you want it due to pride? Ego play? Low self esteem? "Oh, medicine will increase my rep and esteem".. Or cos of money? You are in for a rude awakening if you don't get realistic with yourself. |

JAMO84: Be deceiving yourself.
Every single Yoruba outside the South West will proudly claim Yoruba heritage.
Kogi state Yoruba will fight you dirty if you dare call him any other tribe. Only Igbo of other regions do everything possible to deny their root. Not all will fight you. Those that have been to SW might want to stop claiming Yoruba because the average yoruba from SW is tribalistic. They discriminate. I schooled in SW and after my experience, I hate being called Yoruba, call me Okun instead. Yoruba will laugh at your accent, call you Ebira or even call you aboki. The average Yoruba on the street do not know there are Okun people in Kogi. They have this superiority complex. I'm like, what benefits do I have from claiming Yoruba sef? Claiming a nort.her.ner has been more beneficial to me so why try to be distriminatory in a condescending manner? An average yoruba person would profile you to the last village and act superior even among themselves in the SW. Ogun might act superior to someone from Ondo, say Ilaje or Akoko person. Very stupid and annoying thing. I blame lack of education though |

kollinzgee: Oga even you cannot understand cannot understand Kogi dialect ,i don't think you have heard them speak before. There's nothing like Kogi dialect. Kogi is not a language, it's not a tribe but a geopolitical creation. You don't therefore speak Kogi. Mention the tribes you are referring to and in this case, it's Okun. Okun dialect |

Stay away from Mbbs if surgery isn't your interest. No point wasting years to get Mbbs if your aim ain't surgery. You can be great and be involved in healthcare with other courses, just research. Pharmacy isn't a substitute for Medicine, pharmacy isn't clinically oriented. It is more chemically oriented, product oriented and less patient centred (no pharmacy students/pharmacist should quote me). Consider nursing if u love clinical sciences just don't stay in Nigeria after Consider radiography if you have things for bio physical sciences Consider MedLab if you love laboratories (I fkin love the labs but didn't do this) Consider Biomedical Engineering if you are torn between engineering and medicine And so on. Only village people think MBBS is alpha and omega, world is evolving, no problem if you try once or twice but sitting at home for 6years because of MBBS is the height of foolishness, oh except you want to be a surgeon of which without MBBS you can't start being one. Fatherly advice |
