(c)Harry Enomamien...2018

Jessica woke up in a darkroom and tried to pulled herself up and realised her hand had been tied to the other. Not only her hands, her legs were also tied with a strong wire. She wriggle like a worm on a hook, searching for weakness in the links, a gap that would allow her to slip her bonds. She remain still as the door was slowly opened.

James walked in with spenky and put on the light. He stared at Jessica with cold eyes before walking toward her. He pulled her head up with her hair, looking straight in her eyes. "Where is the gold you took after killing my brother?"

Jessica coughed. "I...I.."

"Speak up," James yelled.

"I will explain." Her voice was very weak.

James released her while Jessica raised her head in pain from the floor. Her mouth was too heavy to open.

"Now talk."

Jessica sob some few sob before opening her mouth to speak. "I lost it."

"What?"

"It was stolen from my apartment two days after John was murdered." Jessica managed to speak.

"Don't lie to me." James yelled and kicked her. "If you don't tell me where the gold is, I'm going to kill you, right here, right now."

Jessica struggled in pain. "Please do it."

With annoyance, James hit her face with the back of his hand. "Tell me where the hell you kept my gold?"

She struggled but remained silent. All she wanted was to die. What would be of her if she was handed over to the police? Things would be very ugly. She can't stand the shame and she was wishing to die right there. "Please kill me."

James went down and held her neck tight. "Fine, if that is what you want, your death will be a horrible one because I'm going to cut your body into pieces. But before then, tell where you've kept the gold."

Jessica remained silent.

James stared at Spenky who had been staring silently. "Get me my gun."

Spenky replied with a nod and walked out of the room.

James paced the room silently. If what Jessica had said is true, then he would have no choice but to kill her. He was sad for losing the gold, and blamed his late brother for everything.

He stared at Jessica. "I'm going kill everybody if you refused to produce the gold. All your family would pay for it with there lives. Your kids, your hubby, everyone will die."

Jessica didn't reply. She remained on the floor with her eyes closed. If only she wasn't tired, she would have killed herself. Truly, the gold was stolen from her. Who and how was something she didn't understand.

A police vehicle pulled to a stop at the front James duplex and another white Honda SUV stopped behind it. Four armed police men hurried out of the vehicle while Andrew and Lola got out of the Honda car.

"This way." Andrew lead the police men toward the gate and knocked.

The gate was opened by a tall muscular man, staring at the police men with a frown. Before he could open his mouth to speak, the police men pushed him out of the way and they all walked into the compound.

"Hurry," Abigail's lead the way toward the front door.

Before they could get to the door, it was opened and Spenky walked out of the house staring with his eyes narrowed.

"Where is James?" Andrew asked.

"James?" Spenky said. "What..."

Before he could finished his words, the policemen walked passed him into the house while Andrew and Abigail quickly followed.

"Wait," Spenky tried to stop them.

James pulled Jessica up from the floor and placed his gun at her forehead. "Tell me where the gold is?" He yelled.

"Shoot..me," Jessica's voice was not more than a whisper.

The policemen hurried into the room. "Enough," the most senior officer said.

James stared at them with cold eyes, surprised to see Andrew and Abigail as they walked into the room.

"Mr James, you can't take the law into your hands." The policeman said and walked toward Jessica. "Mrs Jessica, you're under arrest."

"I won't let you take away," James voice was very loud. "Not until she provide my gold."

Andrew stared at him. "The police will help you get your gold."

"Bullshit." James met Andrew's gaze. "How dare you?"

"I'm sorry, but we need to follow the right procedure."

James stared at Abigail who was standing with her hands crossed over her chest. "And you?"

Abigail pulled her face away from his.

The policemen untied Jessica and pulled her to her feet, taking her out of the room.

"I want my gold," James yelled at them.

"Mr James," the senior officer turned to face him. "It would be better if you let us do our job."

James stared silently in anger.

********

The police station's premises was crowded with pressmen and women. Vehicles from different TV stations and cars that carried prominent logos of radio stations, all lined at the front of the police station.

Eager faces, microphones, cameras not only invaded the police vehicle space as it pulled to a stop but decimated it. The reporters nearly salivated as they shouted out questions.

"Why did you killed John?"

"What's your relationship with him?"

"Is it true you killed him because of gold?"

Jessica slowly followed the policemen passed the crowd, ignoring the questions of the reporters.

The second Abigail stepped out of the car, a mob of reporters surrounded her on the every side, many shoving cameras in her face. A male reporter started with a round of questions.

Abigail directed her eyes toward the cameras, and gently answered their questions one after the other.
Nice story, but I remember Lola was killed after been pushed of a building, how did she manage to reappear in the final scene?

I think this lady doesn't know what she's talking about. Does she even know how much a junior custom officer earns? Double salary of a university lecturer of same cadre. Instead of advising the federal government to open portal for the recruitment of more graduates into the NCS, she's talking about increment in salaries. ..
Pls, don't comment without facts or figures, it's no news that NCS officers are d least paid among d paramilitary irrespective of d fact that we generate revenue 4 Gov while others dont. A 1 star police officer earns 128k per month, his rank mate in Customs earns 84k "no other allowances". Is that fair? ikp120:
Life on earth is built around gravity and time.

Have you noticed that the both (gravity and time) are "naturally" negative? Yeah! Gravity ensures you naturally go down. It ensures that water naturally flows downward in a flowing water body. Time on the other hand doesn't ever wait nor reverse naturally.

That's why negative occurrences happen much more naturally than positive occurrences.

It's the basic inclination of life on earth. You can override it by working against it (hard wotk mehn).

So gaining weight is way more easier than losing weight.

Wait o, it could also be a mental thing. Gaining money is harder than losing money. So gaining weight should be harder than losing weight. But the reverse is the case.

I think if you can "mentally" make losing weight more negative than gaining weight, you WILL lose more weight easily.

I also think if you can "mentally" make gaining money more negative than losing money, you WILL gain more money easily.

It's all in the mind! There's a pattern here. If you can circumvent the operating principles, you will kinda "trick" the system.

The mind is the key.

That's what I think sha.

To your question, you can approach the nearest Customs area command and ask that they help with validating your document. They will charge a toKen. I can also help you with doing same.

Check my signature for more information.

No sir, i am not the CG of Customs, my rank is far from that. There are so many obvious reasons why dis policy can not work. Unless you are an officer yourself, you would find it difficult to understand why but in the coming days, u would get to realise it.

I dont own a car and i know for how many years i've been saving up to buy one from my peanut salary, so i'm not going to stand on the road to seize cars from people who have struggled hard and managed to get one because of duty which by the way is very expensive if you dont know (eg the duty for a 2003 honda accord is not less than N400k). Let Hamid Ali himself stand on the road and seize cars, i'm not paid well enough to put my life at risk like that.

I hope you would be able to advocate for those whose vehicle would face the impound hammer should it occur.

Customs have been impounding registered vehicles on lagos - benin expressway, Abuja - Okene expressway etc before this new signal, i believe they will be more emboldened now than they were before.

Ignore at your own peril.

I am still available to assist with confirming the validity of your customs paper and with processing the duty when the exercise commences should there be a need. grin

Best regards.

Note: The exercise has not started and would only commence barring any exigencies from Monday 13th March. Please always exercise due diligence in all your dealings.

My brother please do no worry yourself over what The Customs CG is trying to do.

Please also take note that He took this decision on his own without consultation with anybody, even the most senior management of the Nigerian Customs Service are not in support of this policy because it benefits nobody. He is on his own on this and he should on his own go about seizing peoples cars.

Let the grace period come and go, Nothing is going to happen. PLEAS AND PLEASE, DO NOT PANIC AND DON'T GIVE ANYBODY YOUR MONEY, If u want to verify if your vehicle duty is genuine, u can take a photocopy of the documents to any nearest Customs formation (pls, do not go with the vehicle, just the customs document) to verify and if it is discovered to be fake, demand to know the actual duty to be paid, if You can't afford it, just forget it.
Car TalkBREAKING: Senate Stops Nigerian Customs Vehicle Duty Ultimatum by yusuf2(op): 12:58pm On Mar 07, 2017
The Senate has passed a resolution directing the Nigerian Customs Service to halt its plan to penalise Nigerians who do not pay duties on their vehicles within one month.

The resolution, on Tuesday, followed a motion by the Deputy Leader, Bala Na’Allah, who said the new Customs policy was “a serious matter”.

In his contribution, Kogi senator, Dino Melaye, said it was not possible to import vehicle without clearance or “collaboration” of the Customs.

The Senate resolved that Customs halt actions until the agency appears before its Committee on Customs.
Senate President Saraki Saraki said it was the responsibility of the senate to ensure welfare of Nigerians.
Customs had threatened to impound vehicles without duty papers, and to prosecute their owners.

Although, if u're willing to drag your diginity and self worth through the muds just to make a little extra buck, then u should go for d customs job, but be awear that the current customs CG has been terminating appointments of fraudulent officers since he took over.

From all the comments i've read. Its very obvious a good majority of nigerians know next to nothing about the NCS. Most officers u see at d border live from hand to mouth. Ali should do something about d peanut salary of officers how can a major revenue generating body be paying a level 8 office 84k per month and expect results. He shld go after the likes of the former CG Dikko who donated the 13th month allowance of over 18,000 officers to pdp for 2015 campaigns or why do u people think EFCC is after him now while he is hidding in Dubai?

BusinessCustoms To Review Personnel Salaries by yusuf2(op): 11:00am On Dec 11, 2015
The Controller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), retired Colonel Hameed Ali, has said that the service under his leadership would soon begin the process of reviewing the salaries of its officers and men.

At an interactive session with the House of Representatives committee on Customs and Excise in Abuja, Ali said the current salary and other packages of his men are “nothing to write home about,” considering the volume of revenue generated by the service.

The Customs boss said that the offices of most of his officers on patrol also double as their residence, which he said was “unacceptable.”

BusinessCustoms Generate N1.2bn From Rice Imports In Two Months by yusuf2(op): 10:49am On Dec 10, 2015
The Nigeria Customs Service said it has generated revenue of N1,178,720,376 from rice imports through the land borders in October and November 2015.

During the same period, Customs said a total quantity of rice imported through the land borders stood at 17.596 metric tonnes.

The Comptroller-General of Customs, Col. Hameed Ali (Rtd), who disclosed this at a strategy session, also reviewed the revenue performance of the service during the year.

Indeed, only two months ago, the Comptroller-General of Customs had approved the removal of the restriction placed on importation of rice through the land borders.

The removal, according to the Customs, was predicated on the large scale rice smuggling through the land borders, resulting to huge revenue loss and distortions in the price of the item in the local markets.

A statement signed by the Public relations Officer of the Customs, Wale Adeniyi, on behalf of the Comptroller General, said the huge revenue is a confirmation of the Customs’ position on the need to remove restrictions placed on importation of rice through land borders.

“The huge collection in just two months has vindicated our position. If we had stuck to our previous directive, this much quantum of rice would still have been smuggled anyway, and we would have lost over a billion naira revenue at this critical period of our economic downtown,” the statement said.

The breakdown of the rice imports shows that Idiroko border in Ogun Command has the largest volume of 8,276 metric tonnes, with a collection of N555, 152,344 in duties; Katsina borders came next with 3,636 metric tonnes imported and total revenue of N242, 985,626 was collected during the same period.

A total of 2.156 metric tonnes was imported through the land borders of Oyo/Osun command, generating a total revenue of N144, 278,025.

The Seme border had 2,140 metric tonnes passing through it with revenue generation of N143,349,658; Sokoto 602 metric tonnes with N40,162,759; Kano/Jigawa had 470 metric tonnes with N31,536,148; Adamawa/Taraba, 248 metric tonnes with N16,545,422 generated and Niger/Kwara/Kogi having 68 metric tonnes with N4,710,394
