Hello Fam. Hubby and I will be landing at Edmonton in August. Kindly inform me if you get wind of a 1 bedroom condo. Many thanks. @woodcrestmayor, we have to meet o.

In other news, my boss (in his unofficial farewell speech) kept saying 'forget Nigeria, don't look back'. It's just all so sad...

Welcome home Joo. May the land favour you and yours
joo2018:
LANDING GIST II

DEPARTURE AND ARRIVAL

By flight day, missus and I were already frazzled and I can say I was functioning on autopilot till we landed. Nobody even remembered to take pictures.

Got to airport around 10am and then it was security check, food stuffs check, bags check in and boarding pass, immigration check 2x, customs check 2x, Ethiopian Airlines check (too much wahala for naija). Then waiting for the flight while dealing with 2 running kids.

Land at ADD. Wait for next next flight while dealing with increasingly frustrated kids.

Flight again. Long, long flight. Filled declaration card on the plane.

Flight itself was cool. Spent long parts of the flights carrying baby Joo up and down the planes. If anyone on the flights saw a family dealing with 3 sons, that was us.

At immigrations in Toronto, there's the visitor's side and the PR/citizens. Most people on the flight were PR/citizens and so went to their line. In our stressed state, we simply followed them.

At the end of the line, we had to go back to the visitor's side and be on the queue again.

It was the usual questions. We then went to another side where our CoPR was treated. Met the "Welcome to Canada people". Did our SIN. Went to pick our bags. Our bags were the last ones there.

Went to customs. Didn't fill goods to follow before hand with all the stress. The lady asked which goods are coming. I said books and some games. She said, books. Asked, Are you sure that is all. Asked like 3x.

Then got a taxi to take us to our Airbnb.

POST LANDING

I'm still decompressing. Things have been moving in a dream like state. I'm almost there.

Registered with ACCESS for a 4 wks program. Opened accounts with BMO. Got a FIDO line. Got a PRESTO card.

Still house hunting. Don't yet know how to celebrate our first Canada Day.

Now I understand why people first stay with family/friends or go to to Edmonton or Calgary where there's more support. It's been an adventure.

All's good. I'm happy to be finally home.

SMALL WORLD

@Misi16, I now know you and hubby. Your hubby and I reconnected at Addis Ababa.

@Ifeoma77, if you landed on Tuesday morning June 18, we were on the same flight ADD to YYZ. We must connect here somehow.

mbakweich:
Hey my people, it's almost time and am getting more scared oo. Will be landing in Edmonton, Alberta on the 16th May and am not yet sure of even a shared room oo . This Airbnb, do I pay on landing or before departing Nigeria? I don't mind any cheaper suggestions from elders in the building wink

Hello fam. Please how much is the fee at Vfs for submission? Also, on the height and eye color , how do I know the date or permanent residence? Thank you.
Travel / Re: Canadian Express Entry/federal Skilled Workers Program - Connect Here Part 7 by Yuyukoko: 10:49am On Apr 30, 2019
Well, that's Information you actually don't need. You already know you are qualified or can know by using the CRS Tool.

There's really no need for an agent in the express entry journey.

kuljiyke:
Please which one is called Canadianvisaexpect because I received a call from them telling me am qualified for Canada resident permit
I need your advice please before I answer them

Return kwa? One way o.
iaatmguy:
you could use skyscanner.com, However, fares would be expensive during this period, because of spring, and close departure date
https://www.nairaland.com/5021090/transitioning-ppr-landing-canada
also it's possible you are booking return ticket

Erm. I had a list to tell you until I saw you mentioned one that will take a year to obtain. Don't know really. Or maybe enrol for a master's program in NOUN. A friend is undergoing one and said it's for a year. .
electroTech:

What kind of professional certificate is acceptable and won't take more than a year to obtain?
Travel / Re: Canadian Express Entry/federal Skilled Workers Program - Connect Here Part 7 by Yuyukoko: 3:35pm On Apr 29, 2019
I can book directly ro Edmonton at a really affordable price? Oya show me! I'm looking at early/mid August.
iaatmguy:

Use skyscanner or download Ethiopian airline app ; you should get about 600k for family of 2 especially if its on a Wednesday or Thursday

Okay, I'll check Ethiopian. Been on Emirates ( I really like that one). Thank you.
jjohndoe83:

Modified:

No nau. Have you gone on the Ethiopian Airlines website or Egypt air? Family of 2 should be around 550k, if you're taking a fairly long date.

I suspect your trying to book straight to Ed. from Nigeria. You should only book to Toronto Pearson and do the flight to Ed. separately.
Travel / Re: Canadian Express Entry/federal Skilled Workers Program - Connect Here Part 7 by Yuyukoko: 2:43pm On Apr 29, 2019
Meanwhile fam, I've been trying to book our flights but the prices I'm seeing are killing me. 2million plus for a family of 2?! Biko, should you find anything lower, please reply to this. Please and please. Destination is Edmonton. Many thanks.
Travel / Re: Canadian Express Entry/federal Skilled Workers Program - Connect Here Part 7 by Yuyukoko: 2:41pm On Apr 29, 2019
I think it's quite difficult considering the points you want to have. It's usually more realistic to have an M.sc or a professional certificate added to B.sc , except of course, you want to look into the PNP route. I may be wrong...

electroTech:
Hello people, is it possible to get PPR with just BSc? I'm just curious
Travel / Re: Canadian Express Entry/federal Skilled Workers Program - Connect Here Part 7 by Yuyukoko: 1:11pm On Apr 27, 2019
Just in case you can't find the rejection letter like me, attach a well worded LOE to the CSE.

Morning All, I will be 4 months post AOR on Monday, I just remembered this morning that the PA has been denied Student Visa once before in 2017 but I didnt remember when i was filling the applcication as am the accompanying spouse and she didnt as well reminded me maybe she too forgot and I got to remember now due to our conversation. Though I have called CIC like thrice and they told me Eligibilty met, Criminality met, BG check ongoing but not finalized, security not started. I planned ordering GCMS notes on Monday to actually know what is a happening to the application. Pls what do u think I should do as per the student visa?

1st attempt - 2005 ( study permit denied, Lagos)
2nd attempt - 2014 (visitor's visa denied, Lagos)
3rd attempt - 2015 ( study permit denied, Lagos)
4th attempt - 2017 ( study permit denied, London)
5th attempt - 2018 ( permanent residency approved baby!)

I always wanted to go to Canada. Always been my only interest. I used to say it will be Nigeria or Canada for me. I even learnt the national anthem... After all the earlier attempts, I lost my guts. Went to join hubby in England, and tried to face the future.

You know that thing about true love eh? I couldn't settle for England. I woke one morning, told hubby I was booking a flight to return to Nigeria, he asked me to book for me and shoot, a week after we landed back home.

I got really fearful I've made a mistake, all the admission letters ( from 3 universities sitting in my inbox), some pounds in my account, I started looking for work again in Nigeria. Was invited to my previous work place in Lagos, but I knew accepting it will cost someone else her job. So I turned it down. I finally got a job. They were deceived to think I'm a serious person, they promoted me easily... All I wanted was to go school in Canada...

Hubby then mentioned express entry. I couldn't care anymore. I grudgingly wrote the IELTS. Loads of youtube tutorials, I used tutorials by Jay and Liz. Passed it all. Hubby wrote too, and he passed.

So I asked for a sign from God , that we can gather the POF with ease. ( Funds were mainly reasons for refusal earlier). Na so both Mums funded our account, plus our savings.

Timeline :

AOR :September 23, 2018
Biometrics : October 23, 2018
Teary day in between when I realized file was in Accra.
ADR : The famous 5. Submitted March 10.
PPR: April 23, 2019. It finally came in the mid of a meeting. I was just looking at them all and writing my resignation mentally.

This morning, we have begun searching for flights. And I'm beyond grateful and dazed by God. I'm finally going to school in Canada. And it's on the best visa I could imagine ...

Morale:

Pray to God. He's alive.

Don't stop dreaming, you have no idea how many conversations I've had with Canadian professors and friends in my head.

While waiting, get better. Stay prepared. I honestly made alot of decisions considering my baggage in kg, if it will be useful in Canada...

Pray to God . He better be involved every step of the way.

Ask questions. Stay informed. Seek for answers. Seek for help...

Stay hopeful and positive. All those shit refusals are over now!

Pray to God. Thank Him. It's time for Thanksgiving. Whether you've received yours or not.

Thank you fam. Loads of love from a clinic, someone thinks a baby is on the way...

I'm just here struggling not to cry in a management meeting. The mail just dropped. PPR is here fam... It's been a long haul but it's here finally...

Give it your best shot - in compiling docx and proof of funds, don't lose sight of the goal, ask for help, clarifications, look for answers, admit when you are weak especially when the 6 months timeline elapses, joke around it, but wait for it. It's gon come!

Here we come Canny... Tra-la-la-la.

Please check those posts on IELTS materials, set apart more time, use more YouTube lessons, anything you can do, do. Except don't give up on this canny matter. It makes your story sweeter when you eventually send in your PPR story...

The lines will fall in pleasant places...

Came across this platform again even as I feel so discouraged to go through the process. I have written IELTS 3 times now and keep getting writing as a 6.5, even after remark of the last one. Maybe canny is not for everyone.

Lol. Everything! From visitor's, to study permit and now pr. Gave up somewhere along the line like this Canada matter isn't for me. That's how hubby got the bug and encouraged me into this route. I'm trying to distract my mind from pessimism and forge ahead with beautiful hope, can't wait!

Thanks fam. In the end, two things can happen. PPR and prosperity in that land!

The lines are falling in pleasant places...

Meanwhile, I so don't want an interview. What's 'strong' with those AVO sef?

Tojued:

Biko, you must not allow the long wait pull you down o, just continue living your life. The delay can only be for so long and it will be over. Besides Accra is on fire nowadays.

By the way is it permanent residency you applied for or student visa / SOWP?
