Here's a great opportunity for those that want to mingle professionally with African students & professionals. They usually have a mixer afterwards - eat, drink, talk, party...whatever. I won't be attending this year, but I was there in 2010 when they had Naeto C. This year its going to be Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala and M.I (♫ ♬ Short black boy ♫ ♬) ![]() http://www.hbsafricaconference.com/ 15th Annual Africa Business Conference, 15th-17th February, 2013 at Harvard Business School, Boston MA hosted by the Africa Business Club, a member of Student Clubs of HBS, Inc. The Africa Business Conference is the world's largest student-run event focused on business in Africa. It brings together about 1,200 participants and is the ultimate networking opportunity for business and community leaders, corporate sponsors, students, educators from around the world and anyone passionate about business opportunities in Africa. The theme for this year's Conference, "Re-defining Africa: The Emergence of a New African Story", is in recognition of the fact that as Africa evolves, so too must the World's perception of Her. The aim of this Conference is to showcase those who continue to shape and influence the African story through business and enterprise, and to create an environment for like-minded individuals to meet, exchange ideas and spur one another on to action. idoo4love: am still in school here and I wanna come over to complete my first degree .. So I don't av my final transcript.. @all in d house pls contribute... Is it my transcript from my first year or jst for the latest one... (I wanna continue in d states )..thanksI-doo-4-love ![]() Kpolli and I explained it to you on the laptop thread. Come with whatever transcript you've got (that shows grades from your first year till wherever you're at right now). You need to start applying to schools towards Summer/Fall '13. If you don't get accepted to a college in NY, stay open to affordable schools anywhere in the States. You can always move back to NY when you're done. |
Anthonymighty: Looks like stem is the way o.....I'm happy though because na information technology be my way o....although its a 2nd degree...first degree was Mech. Enginerring for 9ja here. Na God go help us all....I'm really packing for my journey Next month.....Obama land.Wow! Why the move from Mech. Eng to IT? ![]() So you're one of 'those' hustling after IT money ehn?? ![]() |
inspirizu: Hello house inspirizu: Help dis guy abeg!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Refresh that page very often. Be flexible with dates by March 1 (a week before and 2 weeks after). Timing should be the least of your worries. Have great answers ready for the VO. |
imperiouxx: https://serve.mysmiley.net/happy/happy0194.gif As small as ants are, they get whatever they need how much more human?awwww I love this quote. Its the best thing you've ever said, really. Kinda like a quote of faith - Good job! |
July 23 breezed in and breezes out! ![]() |
Some Nigerian men can be romantic. xxxx accused me of not being romantic enough because I asked him why he took the time to spread fresh roses all over the room and then sweep it out later BY HIMSELF! LOL ![]() Sometimes, you need to feed them with good romantic ideas. They might not know what you'd like. |
manuels76: Hi Peeps, I am a Nigerian based in the US, anybody out there? Lets connect please......You're in the right place! Keep searching unlike Imperiouxx ![]() Stay open-minded to internet romance and I'm sure you'll meet someone nice. |
Leadership skills (as the Sheep-keeper) Communicative Great listener (Got a mind of my own so I wanna be heard) Spiritual - Willing to pray & attend Church regularly Balanced lifestyle In my case, he needs to be VERY patient. ![]() |
Imperiouxx -- Whatever!! ![]() ***This is an old thread*** |
I made the mistake of sending out a generic resume without tailoring it specifically to what the employer needs. Modifying your resume is time consuming, but worth it! |
^^@Square: Yea, I had to put it out there for those with career indecision so they don't think that the easiest way to get sponsored is to become an IT guy overnight and get served on a platter. I think the STEM bill would make it. Seems like the major proponents of this bill are Republicans (Kinda surprising) ![]() |
murtalaa: I have come to understand that PhD should not be pursued merely for financial gratification. My exact sentiments. Although for anyone to pursue a PhD shows that they have the mental/academic capacity for the challenge. Good thing! To each their own anyways. |
Ferrero Rocher is one cheap overrated chocolate. Hmnn Anyways, Baileys Irish Cream chocolate (Putin brand) would be aiight. ![]() |
kpolli: Emi, girlie username..... mo da run!!!!! U've or I've??Ehn ... O da run o, sa so ra e. So gbo mi? ![]() **shakes one leg and taps foot on the floor* |
imperiouxx: looooool, do you ever think someone like me can ever switch discipline?......lolz, it will take heavenly battlion to change me. This is what I'm doing till the last day.I'd be shocked if you do cos' you're on the right track. Demonstrated passion + work experience -> Magical success! Good network is the real deal. |
merryberry: I (MERRY BERRY ) IS NOT A boy o! i am a lady. thanks anyways Kpolli. Yvete biko help a sister!Lol ... I get confused because of guys with girlie usernames like Kpolli, Imperiouxx, mamacita ...etc. ![]() All you need to do is study this thread from part 1. You can ask for clarifications if anything confuses you. Wish you luck! Kpolli:- See I've managed to recruit some eligible people on my romance thread. Haha! ![]() |
Aiight Harvard-Grad ... I drink occasionally. Besides, WTH is Alomo?? ![]() Geo007: @Yvet how are you,, wanna know you, i m based in Nigeria ,, can we get to know more about each other,, Do you have Skype plsGeo007:- Good to know you too! But did you read the topic before commenting?(just asking) |
imperiouxx: I think I need to switch to Biomathematics or BioIT or Chemmath if at all there is anything like that.....lolLOL you're perfectly fine where you're at. Degree choice is not necessarily a factor in getting sponsorship. The "jobs everywhere" are limited to those with EAD and ONLY if employers are willing to sponsor after graduating (to echo Geodarmy's post). That's the tough nut to crack right there! TTYL ... I'm still jet-lagged from yesterday. **yawns* imperiouxx: E go reach you but you go need advanced level of COM/IT.Good advice! |
WARNING!! LENGTHY POST! I subscribed to a H1B website that sends mails on hot jobs/industries before the filling season begins each year (April). If you're about to graduate, start job-hunting. I think the H1 visa favors the computer guys and thats my beef with Indians, but thought I share an email that I received anyways. Dear ....., Based on 2012 H1B data released by Department of Labor, US employers have filed 415,845 labor certifications for H1B Visa in fiscal year 2012. Please use the reports to find visa sponsors. H1B Visa Status - 2012: certified(352,668) denied(21,149) Hot Occupation: IT/Math(234,197) Engineering(34,521) Healthcare(23,744) Science(23,665) Business/Finance Others(18,251) awwww not fair! ![]() Management(3,977) Legal(2,000) IMO, Law as Entry-level in the US might be challenging if you're not a GC holder/Citizen. Hot Job Title: Programmer Analyst(33,077) Software Engineer(14,438) Computer Programmer(9,631) Computer systems Analyst(9,304) Software Developer(3,895) Physical Therapist(3,872) Kpolli: See why I advised Mamacita to do this? They make as much as $80/hr. She already has the natural skills. Lolz Assistant Professor(3,802) Hot Location: New York, NY(28,570) Houston, TX(12,003) San Francisco, CA(7,275) Chicago, IL(6,592) Atlanta, GA(6,332) San Jose, CA(6,198) San Diego, CA(5,029) Boston, MA(4,597) Redmond, WA(4,171) Dallas, TX(4,005) These are just the top cities but there are other cities listed. Go to the website, select your industry/occupation and it will show results that include the number of people sponsored in a given year, name of company and hot cities for your career. It helped me to narrow my job selection to specific companies that sponsor H1B. Although, I know some impatient guys will ![]() DO NOT QUOTE THIS POST. I can forward the mail if you need it. |
Why are there no Liberal Arts majors on this thread? Don't be intimidated by these hardcore science/tech guys ![]() You can get okay jobs too, but you need to plan strategically. (Operations Management, Human Resources, Risk/Emergency Management, Intl. Buisness & Rehab Psychology are good degrees - Admissible in most industries.A friend is rounding up a Masters in Creative Writing in hopes of landing a position in contract negotiations/compliance. Nice! Dare to be different? |
Singing ... ♫ ♬ Come and see American wonder! ♫ ♬ ...They said that the cat touched many lives?? |
manny4life: Well, till the final bill is out, we'll see what it entails. You cannot criticize a move even when its details haven't been finalized, besides I don't know what's bogus about it. Immigrants contribute a whole lot to the economy than they take. Granted you have illegal criminals, but the honest living ones far outweigh the bad. Cities like TX that come out and shout illegal immigration, most of their farms on there, do they use real Americans for their cheap labor? From FL to all Southern states, how many white or black Americans do you see? Please Illegal Immigration is helping American system and this is more avenue to earn more money. Now you've got your opinion and I've got mine. Lolz ... Are you trying to school me on the contributions of illegal immigrants to the US economy, like I don't know about it? Why do you respond to me with comments about criminals and farmers. I sure know about that. Did I write anything against illegal immigration? How is it relevant to this topic?? ![]() |
kpolli: Nothing classy about alcohol? Pls don't fall my hand.... You ca mix vodka but ur not a drinker.... I seeOh Lawdy! I can only do maybe Margarita, Irish cream or vodka/cranberry occasionally. I really don't drink. You will never see me with tequila or beer. hehehee |
dederocs: am dede,an artistic man by nature-6ft tall, dark and athletic built.a university graduate, majored in finance.i am ready to settle down with the right woman.age and figure is no barrier.i am on facebook and messenger on request.swiftlink16@yahoo.comNice one! So you're more spontaneous than Havard-Grad and Kpolli, right? hmnnn ha ha ha! Who resurrected this old thread? Wish you luck Dede! |
imperiouxx: @Rickywowoz, Sorry about misleading statement of mine about oil in AL and ND. Still I will prefer you taking ND in place of AL. like I said, for someone just coming from outside US, the place won't be conducive and might affect your studies seriously. Hell not only hot, this place is hell cold. Cheers!https://serve.mysmiley.net/party/party0012.gifMisleading?? I still think anyone has got an easier chance of getting good O&G jobs if they school in TX, LA and OK. I know 2 young Nigerians (Big boyz now in their own rights ) that schooled in U. Oklahoma at Tulsa for Pet Eng (MS). They got good jobs afterwards. @ Rick: Take a shot at Texas Tech, LSU or U. Louisiana at Lafayette, though hard to get in. I wouldn't recommend UH because its competitive, inside Houston metropolis and people don't mind getting in without GA because of its strong Alumni network in the Houston Energy industry. For assistantships, maybe Alaska and ND. Pet. Eng in Louisiana is worth it even if you pay out of pocket, IMO. ND has the best Emergency/Risk Mgmt program in the US for those that are interested. |
merryberry: Thanks for the response Kpolli,. I am not a permanent resident. I just schooled here. But my visa is still valid. So I was wondering if I can apply from here instead of going back to Nij. I have done my GMAT. And I am looking to do an MBA or any business related course. Do u know any one that can help with interview tips? Thanks! kpolli: Yes I know one, her name is Yvete... She likes helping females alot... From ur name u strike me as one, so pressure herLoooool I forced rehearsed lines into Mamacita's head before her interview. Her mother is an independent solid minerals consultant for ![]() Merryberry:- I think Merryberry is a guy Haha! Just like I-doo-4-love on the other laptop thread lolz. Since you're resident in the UK on an F1 visa, you may be able to apply over there. Otherwise, you may have to apply from NIG. I suggest you ask Justwise and co on the UK thread. Like Kpolli advised, get accepted first. Please do NOT lie about your visa denial. I told Imperiouxx the other day how my cuz was denied US Visa 7 times in Nigeria. He got frustrated and applied to an American |
Good job! Others have stepped up to this GRE sending ishh. When someone gives you stuff like that for free, share with others as well. ... but why are the Super Eagles doing this to Mali? 5 is enough abeg, ... so demoralizing. Imprecious is in front of his computer right now. Soccer fanatic ... Haha! |
kpolli: What would u be doing in a beer parlour?.... We like female drinkers with classC'mon you know the beer parlour I'm talking about. There's nothing classy about alcohol. I can take a mix of vodka and something else, but I'm not a "drinker". ![]()
Abeg all that one na story, I don't drink my foot
Lolz don't let Kpolli influence you. |
Another bill that's on a path to nowhere! Citizenship for all illegal immigrants sounds like a joke to me, so bogus IMO. There might be a path to legalization for illegal immigrants, but not direct citizenship. Can Obama focus on other bills worth passing like the STEM? The best thing Obama has done is the DACA. I know several Nigerians that are recipients of that amazing bill, but this one right here, ... is just like asking all undocumented Mexicans to become US citizens overnight. ![]() |
^^ Are you sure its not the GRE you need? GMAT is a B-E-A-S-T! *For those going to Business school (MBA). |
