imperiouxx: No one is invulnerable to mistake. When mistake happens, you look for rectification but not just stand on the point that you've once made mistake. Well, moreso, she can claim it was a mistake from someone who filled the DS160 for her then but I'm sure with that little interview time.... none of such would be dug up.
Yups!
Changing obvious data and lying at an interview COULD make one ineligible. Wish them luck! Hope they tell us how it goes.

If question comes to her previous application showing she got a kid... That was once but not now, she lost him/her...... shikena!
Oga Imperiouxx grin The power of the tongue is not to be messed with.

It could only get worse if she verbally confirmed having a child at that time. Those agents mess people up!

If you're doing all of this on your own, forget the institute and work towards a degree in Nigeria that you can afford.

FamilyRe: Think Before You Send Your Kids Abroad by Yvete(f):
Depends on how some parents raise their kids.
A GOOD FOUNDATION is everything. A child that fears God will not partake in certain things no matter what circumstances they find themselves or give into peer pressure.

Its not about location (abroad vs NIG), but the mindset of the child. My youngest siblings came over at 14 right after JS3. Even without my parents here (though we visit NIG quite often as well) we're still well grounded. I met children of a revered Nigerian pastor attending high school in the US without their parents. For a Pastor to send his kids abroad like that, he sure is confident in his kids.

She's right about allowing one's kids to be looked after by someone else anyways. Can't compare to direct upbringing by one's immediate family ... Same experience you had in the UK could happen to a Nigerian child in Ghana or Nigeria. Glad she chose to be a role model to others..

freecharles: for the HP Pavillion, whenever you want to use it, always raise it up so that all the fans (including the ones beneath the computer) will function properly or better still you can purchase some kind of pad that you can at the four stands to raise it up and allow proper ventilation.......

Thanks Charles!
I wondered if there are users in this section since I only got help from people I know.
I sincerely appreciate.

idoo4love: thanks for ur concern dear.. Am a man.. grin . I don't av that kind of money o.. Even if I ask my friends to help me wit assignment. How will I do my projects ? I just wanna come to d states and start up there..pls help me with d list of cheap schools .. I am also into PHOTOGRAPHY as its what I do to earn a living.. Pls what's photography like in USA and what are my chances in that field.? And what's ur view about Chicago. Thanks
Lolz ... Imperiouxx ex-ed idoo4love out of here!

Photography as a side job (hobby) ain't bad. You can pull some cash with that if you're good at it. Just don't settle though. Pursue the Computer Eng degree and do a masters too, if you can.

I guess that you might end up working in the Prison taking mug shots / Walmart(photo studio) for a start smiley I think you should round up your degree over here.

Stop looking for cheap schools please. You have a green card so your tuition is affordable. Search google for 'affordable colleges in the Chicago area'. That's if you must school there... Nobody will be able to send you a specific list of cheap schools. It's not all about money sometimes, look for good reputation and strong alumni network with these schools.

Dot1: Thanx a lot. So ur advising i shudn't re-write GRE? But can i apply to schools dat requested for higher GRE scores dan i av? Any chance?
Aiight ... I didn't ask you not to retake the GRE. Use your own discretion.
Academic/professional LORs relevant to the program covers you. I think the reason the GRE is stressed on this thread is because some people jump in to grad school after completing an undergrad degree with no relevant work experience. Don't settle, you can still apply to certain schools even if you don't meet their GRE requirements provided you're strong in other areas.
If you're not confident, prep harder and retake the test. It's you against the current pool of applicants.

@Alingo4life: Mamacita went to EducationUSA in Lagos. They were not useful to us, but she might explain better whenever she 'lands' here. Whatever the school instructs, follow...

Hws life there..I heard several stories abt Chicago.. U're in which state. ? And he many years can it take Mr to complete my bsc since am not starting from the scratch .. Thanks
You won't start all over, but you can start in your 3rd year (not bad) since you're not an Intl Student. Make sure you get at least 6 copies of your transcript/ND before coming over. You'll need it. You should start applying to schools now.

Wish you luck!

Dot1: Hello All.
Pls i need ur advice. Am an applicant for Masters in Electrical engr. I wrote GRE few wks ago but my score: Verbal- 145 and Quantitative- 149; analytical was 3.0. I had a low score cos i wrk and didn't plan well enuf. Tho i saw som skuls dat accept my score bt am afraid dey wil choose peeps wif better score ahead of me. So am tinking of retaking d test. Wat do u tinkhuh
Grad school admission selection is a holistic review process - GPA, LOR, SOP, test scores and the current applicant pool (depends on how competitive the applicant pool is).
High/Low GRE score is not a determinant of one's admissibility. With Low GRE scores, sharpen your LOR and SOP, send out emails and give your SOP to someone to peer-review for cogency and grammar. I think LOR is a big deal, IMO.

idoo4love: ahwww...am so sorry abt dat... I can wait to finish here...jst wanna get my transcript like that..and d visa will expire in six months if I don't show up in d states..?
It depends on what you'd like to major in. Will you graduate within 6 months? If not, just request your transcript in NIG and transfer credits when you get here. You must use that visa the God has blessed you with. Don't let it expire in your hands or you'll never forgive yourself. Real talk!

What's your major?

Na wa oh! She said that AMD's overheat and are not for professional use unlike intel. I think I may get a DELL laptop because they're affordable.

Imperiouxx, please explain. Sorry! Did you recommend the laptops listed above or you're telling me to avoid them? Is it the yoga that's you think is not nice or the Toshiba? Thanks.

Loool @ American English. Very sweet when you're pissed!
What I like is that its informal with lots of contractions (lazy man's speech) even at a workplace. "How you doin?" may be incorrect to someone used to British English, but it works in all settings in America. Its strange to ask someone, "How do you do?" shocked WTH? And when your own boss calls everyone a mo-fo, what do you expect? A---ta is worse with cursing!
Did you watch Piers Morgan and Alex Jones (Gun control guy) on CNN? The guy said something kinda like, "Get yo British a$$ outta here!" on national TV. Then started mimicking Pier's British accent. hehehehe Quite unbelievably stup!d!

Dell? Really?? Lemme check online right now.
I use HP Pavilion, but it started overheating real bad. I've changed the fan twice and its still giving problems. Now it shuts off abruptly. Don't want to spend money on this laptop so I'm desperately shopping for a new one. How about Toshiba - Here's the link for the Satelite 15.6 for $249.

The sales agent at Bestbuy told me to stay away from AMD and that should get intel i3, i5 or i7.

Hi Techies tongue

Does anyone have any experience with the new Lenovo ultrabook yoga?
I'm in dire need of a new laptop and came across this 13" laptop that flips into a tablet as well. I think its handy for Church as a tablet and school work as well. Are they any cons to purchasing a tablet/laptop in one. Will it easily break?

I also came across this Toshiba satelite laptop on sale for $249 at Bestbuy (Model: C655-S5082), but the sales rep discouraged me because of its low AMD whatever...i donno a lot about computers. Is Lenovo a good product?
