kodewrita: @Zebra, they are implied but those feats occur not because they conceive those ideas but because they implement them. THATS THEIR DUTY.
My uncle owns an electrical engineering company and nearly went bankrupt cos he decided to give a HND graduate the benefit of the doubt. THe guy's practical skill was not in question, but theoretically he had issues. He could not bill contracts appropriately, could not write a technical report well enough (not even to save his life). I mean all those small things you are taught in a university aside your main course. He had none. Moral: Their practical skills are not in question. Its that extra theoretical depth that they lack. Thats what companies need. Besides most companies are headed by graduates and the tendency is to consider anyone without a degree as not up to standard. Graduates face the same problem when companies are headed by first class graduates who want only first class or second class upper. The guy probably was not a good polytechnic graduate with HND. They also teach all those things you mentioned in the polytechnics. In my own experience and case most of my friends with HND in Engineering write technical reports excellently. |

kodewrita: I work in a company where Nigerian engineers pull off great feats every few months. Engineers in my company routinely fabricate massive installations and produce them entirely within Nigeria. So don't try to negate what I see on a daily basis. Nigeria is simply a mentally poor country, thats why we are the way we are not because Engineers fail.
In the last six months since I joined, I have met more innovative mechanical, chemical, electrical and structural engineers than ever. This country is f**cking talented (forgive the obscenity but you just have to see what some of these guys do on a daily basis). My instructors even bemoan the fact that my company went out to steal all the first class brains from the university. I see what these guys do on a daily basis and yet you tell me you can match up to that with your HND(oops That was too direct. sorry but it had to be said).
We fail because we allow sentiment to rule instead of reason. We fail because we are content not to develop ourselves further but to bemoan our fate instead. We fail because our youth would rather bemoan their fate instead of taking life with both hands.
Face reality and dont spend the next 10 years bemoaning your fate. Some of my bosses started as HND but by secretly going to night school or part-time or study leave, they have gotten degrees and even gotten as far as PHds. The money they make is more than some of the graduates that started work at the same time they left the polytechnic.
MORAL OF THE STORY: Go back to school (whether openly or quietly) and assure your future. See your self? No reference to the Technologists and Technicians? Can any engineering team be complete without Technologists and Technicians?? |

Its about action guided by proper advanced thought as against mechanical practical repetition. Its about the difference between artists and artisans. The difference between being simply mechanics and being inventive and innovative engineers.
Anywhere in the world, you TECHNOLOGISTS man the machines, we ENGINEERS tell YOU WHAT TO DO We are talking about Nigeria pls. In Nigeria, Engineers have not lived up to expectation; they have failed the nation. The Technologists are trying their best to live up to expectation if you care to know. |

Nay Peuls cannot do that because they have the best women very nice looking also there faith of ISLAM say no to such an unG-dly act.
Second those who think hausa/fulani are killers let please allow me to introduce myself, Why the hell do you think Nigeria is one? back in the 60s the whole nation witnessed the killing of Sir, Bello and Tafawa Balewa by the Igbos, so also the so called Biafra club gays who are ever ready to kill an innocent soul why, do the Nigger Delta freaks took hostage and ask for money? Why do guys has some sort of specialization that has to do with fraudstars, 419 cultism, human flesh eating? now a day we call it alqeeda vs crusaders nothing good ever came from these clubs.
TO THE IGBOS I why don't ya try find a solution and create Biafra I am in support of such act from Germany its the best you can do but I assure you u vill never live in peace cause you lack unity that's what failed ya and u can leave the north and send those in the south back to north make sure you did peacefully cause I knew a little about ya guys money mongering yeah I mean it, its time now THE END! part II coming soon!

God is giving him what he gave to the igbos in 1966 - 1970. The same hausa people that he ganged up with and fought a war against the igbos are now fighting and killing his (Gowon) people. |

Nigerian HND is higher than associate Degree, it is equivalent to a Bachelors Degree by virtue of total credit units. The total crdit units from ND1 to HND2 is greater than or equal to 120. |

Sanusi is actually doing a good job, but most tribalists among nairalanders will not see it that way. Thse banks have been telling lies, and have contributed in causing inflation in most cities in nigeria because of the kind of money they pay to their staff. This have made house rents and other things to be on the high side. Imagine, some lanlords will refuse to give you a flat in their estates if you are not a banker simply because they believe bankers earn much and can pay any amount you ask them to pay.
Sanusi has really bailed nigeria from those thieves and armed robbers who call themselves MD/CEO's. |

Your Dad tried, and i'm sure he is a university graduate and not poly graduate with HND, else it would have been impossible for him to get to the rank of a Director in the civil service. All the same, i like your encouragement, it pays better to be self employed than relying on civil service and other private jobs that have one obnoxious policy to the other. Lastly we are not in support of the discrimination against HND holders both in the civil service and private sector. It should be removed completely. Imagine some government parastatals and ministries employ HND holders as level 07 while uni graduates are taken as level 08 officers; it really pains the HND holders. |

UniTech and polytechnics provide both applied education and academics to students especially in engineering, environmental sciences, applied sciences, technology, management sciences and administration. Here, more time is devoted to applications than theory.
Conventional universities train students in academic and research work in engineering, natural sciences, applied sciences, Arts, social sciences, humanities, education, etc. More theory is done here than applications. |

rubenic: why do u all like blabing?Btech is in no way better than Bsc.Duration of course has nothing to do here. Some courses at final year (400L) in conventional Universities are been shifted to 500L in schools of Technology.this also applies to previous levels. do u disagree? compare the course outline of Microbiology at Unijos or Uni ilorin with that of FUTYola or FUTO. As for HND,hmm, Have are asked urselves why universities and polytechnics were created separately.if u haven't,please do. do u know y polytechnics dont have profs? , yes, polytechnics are suppose to be practically oriented but is technology just practically driven without the theoritical knowlegde.if yes we should all become apprentice with the local radionic or automobile machanic in our vicinities. i'm telling u categorically that Universities are both theoritically and practically oriented. if u find otherwise blame your government. i rest my case for now Guy, BTech na 5 years course o, hope you know? You cannot compare uniTech with conventional universities. Btech courses are technologically driven (Theory & Practical). Please check out the syllabus for BTech programs in most science courses you find out that they do more courses than their counterparts in the conventional universities that come out with Bsc. Check BTech Statistics course curriculum for FUT yola and compare it with Bsc Statistics course curriculum for Uni ibadan you will see the differences. infact BTech is supposed to be a step higher than Bsc. As for HND, HND has a similar pattern and structure with BTech, the differnce is that HND is obtained from polytechnics while BTech is from university, that is the difference from my little research. |

I learnt UBA declared a loss of -N9billion; the same UBA that declared N50billion profit last year. Also FCMB declared a loss of -N7billion. Watch and see, more banks will follow in that manner. Breeze don blow, fowl yansh don dey open. Nigerians will soon come to know that commercial banks have been telling them lies and decieving them also.
Soludo knew what Cecilia Ibru and co. were doing, but kept mute; probably he was getting his own share that was why. |

rhymz: Some times many of us miss the point, reading comments from NL sometimes gives U the impression that Nigerians can be insensitive when it comes to issues of equality. Some ppl make it seem like hardly is there any traffic in Enugu airport,am not rooting for them to confer international status to the airport even though it is not a bad idea in itself but it is stupid for anyone to say because Kaduna is a commercial state and Enugu is administrative, they or the whole of the SE do not need an international airport or that the airport is not that important, that is the height of insensitivity.Enugu is the only federal airport in the whole of SE and it serves the five south eastern states, the igbos by nature are very mobile ppl,it's phoney for anyone to claim that enugu airport does not have the clout to generate traffic comparable to lagos or abuja.Thank God the FG has deemed it fit to at least upgrade the airport whether international or not, atleast, this will increase its ability to take in more flights and with time we will see if actualy PH airport even with its international status will do better than that of Enugu. The Fact is,most none easterners argue against it on the basis of the fact that they are afraid of competition esp ppl from south-south.If Enugu becomes international today,of course traffic will reduce in airports like PH and to some extent Lagos and Abuja. If I wanted to go to the US or Europe from Owerre, onitsha,Aba or Abakaliki for instance,I won't have to go to PH international Airport cos already there is one close by in Enugu,U know what that will do to PH Airport in terms of business and let's face it igbos make a sizeable chunk of their passengers.Let's stop clumping everything with tribalism each time igbos raise issues of infrastructural Development coming to the east.We are Nigerians too,if states like Ogun state could be gaining fast infrastructural developments as a result of its proximity to Lagos why should ppl cry when we raise thesame issues for the igbos?Igbos work very hard just like any other Nigerian our concerns must not be shot from birth and given decent burials. I now understand what this igbo people are saying. So going to Omagwa airport is what is disturbing you guys?? May God help you guys with an airport in igboland then. naijaking1: Your distorted logic gives me a headache. Chosing federal character and federal facilities when it's politically convinient is the bane of this country. In reality, the SE has more population than the NE+NW combined(despite your contrary census figures) and more commerce to show for it. If people of the SE need an internationl gateway to boost their economy, who would fight against that? Except if you're deeply scared of their success. All those state in the north you have named---Nassarawa, Kogi are nothing but glorified local government areas created by the northern military to keep a political strangle hold on the south--time will tell. Is there any reason why the federal government must be the one deciding who gets good roads and who doesn't, who gets international airport and who doesn't, and who lives and who dies, and using our federal fund to do that too? Let every region build their own roads, airports, seaport, whatever. Thank God for you, and talking about commerce, what commercial activities go in in Enugu that qualifies it to have an int'l airport? One of you (in one of the previous posts)said that Enugu deserves an int'l airport simply because it was a regional capital before? I responded by asking him why Kaduna, Ibadan and Benin-city would not have same too, being former regional capitals too. I still don't understand why you guys are complaining. If it's in terms of commerce then Aba and Onitsha should be the ones asking for int'l airports, and not Enugu please. |
Politics › Re: Fg Denies Granting Enugu Airport Int’l Status by zebra(m): 2:54pm On Dec 03, 2009 |
@youngies
Please Abuja is not a state in north-central geo-political region. Abuja is FCT and shares boundaries with Nasarawa, Niger, Kogi and Kaduna states. States in the north-central geo-political region are Niger, Plateau, Nasarawa, Kogi, Kwara and Benue. So Abuja int'l Airport is not meant to be an int'l airport for the north-central region, rather it is an int'l airport in the FCT. |
