it's still an embarrassment till today. a lot of pple with HND are really not happy with the way government and the society treat HND holders despite their skills. |
use the jumper settings on the hard drives to set the main hard disk as master while the new hard disk will be st as slave. connect it to the system using either IDE or SATA cable thats all. |
Apapa is more commercial and industrial than Victoria Island. Most companies have their corporate headquarters in Victoria Island and not their factories. |
i still put it to you that the volume of work you do to get a Bsc is less than that of the HND in nigeria. |
@canuck How do u expect us to have top HND holders in nigeria when u are others have continued to suppress their knowledge, efforts and contributions to the nigerian society?? Anyway we still have people like HND-holder of nairaland, a PhD holder in engineering, we have people like Apollos Ikpobe, he's one the ED's of zenith bank plc; he holds HND certificate from YabaTech. I know some that are PhD holders today and are lecturing in universities. Even under suppression they were still able to rise up. |
@kodewrita Yes I used some of my HND notes in Statistics and Operations Research to teach MBA students who were always running and begging me to teach them Quantitative Analysis and Decsion Analysis. I used those notes for them because their syllabus had some of those things i had already done in the polytechnic. And for sure it really helped them. I also used those same HND notes while i was doing my Bsc in one of Nigeria's prestigious 1st generation universities, and it really helped me. Take it or leave it, the HND curriculum is richer than the Bsc curriculum; i can confidently tell you this because i have experienced both. You and others who don't know have made the society believe that universities teach more or learn more than polytechnics at the undergraduate level, which is not true. |
It was my HND note I used for my masters programm and I obtained 4.57/5. We only have a date with the head of service on the issue
i also used my ND/HND notes to teach people doing MBA program. |
slimslim:please help me tell those of them that just believe that the Bsc course is better than the HND when they have never experienced it before. i happen to do the same course (statistics) in poly and later in the university; poly curriculum is richer than university curriculum. i'm talking from experience. |
@HND-holder They always claim that the university curriculum for Bsc program is superior when compared with that of polytechnic; but none of them have been able to tell us why and how it is superior. The fact remains that the nigerian HND was established with the sole aim of producing graduates with technological skills, and the qualification obtained (HND) is not the same as the theoretical Bsc/BA Degree but equivalent to it. |
kodewrita:you still have not told us why the Bsc is better than the HND. Please Bsc computer science curriculum is not as rich as the ND/HND curriculum. you can carry out ur research again and see. You can also do a research again, you will also find out that ND/HND in Statistics curriculum is richer than Bsc Statistics curriculum. There are so many good courses in Statistics that the HND guys do that Bsc don't do here in nigeria; eg. SQC, Econometrics, Medical statistics. Please tell us what makes a Bsc in nigeria now better than the HND?? |
kodewrita:Like HND-holder has rightly said, you seem not to understand the problem of nigerian HND. The HND curriculum in nigeria is more or else a Bsc. I always wonder why Bsc holders believe that their curriculum is richer than that of the HND? i have checked thru both polytechnic and university curricula, i have found out that the polytechnic curriculum is wider and richer than the Degree curriculum; if not why is it that polytechnic graduates know a lot of things that university graduates don't know? |
thank you we are all waiting for the head of service of the federation circular.
which circular? see nigerians are tired of waiting i beg. |
@Hnd-holder HND holders are still crying o; they are been discriminated again by ministry of interior. HND holders - inspector, while Degree holders - Asst. supt. |
@Avenir Thanx a lot. your contribution will really help. But i discovered that those firms are market research firms and not Statistical consultancy firms. |
pls i need opinions from Economists and Statisticians on how to go about this. If u are a Statistician or an Economist pls we need ur advice. |
please i need opinions from Economists and Statisticians in the house on how a statistical consultancy outfit can be made possible here in nigeria. |
noworry:Good. Are u a Statistician? where are u based? I'm in kaduna. |
sammiedgre:Adesanya, thanx 4 your sweet response. Infact i really appreciate your support for stats and research consultancy. Secondly I feel 3 professionals can make this biz work well. A Statistician, an Economist and a Computer Scientist can make it work well; how do you see it? If you have any idea of how to get started and who and who to be the target clients pls let me know. |
some of u are misunderstanding this topic. i believe the poster of the topic meant that instead of one single person be made to do a certain job from 7am or 8am to sometimes 9pm, would it not be better to run shifts so dat one person can work from 7/8am and close by 2pm while the next shifts starts from 2pm and ends by 8pm. To me this will be a good idea. prsently people work for more than 12hrs per day in some banks. |
candylips:SPSS, minitab, R, SAS and MS-Excel |
Would it be a bad idea to set up a statistical consultancy? Services will include research and data analysis, design & analysis of experiments for individuals, government and private companies; assist university/polytechnic research students with their research work and analysis;teaching and training on statistical methods, quantitative analysis, statistical computing and use of statistical packages for data anlysis. Do you think this will be a good biz to do in nigeria considering the state of the nigerian economy? How can one go about setting up and making contacts to get clients? |

some departments run shifts, especially the IT department in the head offices of most banks. |
@HND-holder You see most of these discriminations come from the civil service. Who signed and approved the advert for employment? is it not the minister that signs? I find it difficult to believe that a minister in Nigeria still place HND holders a step below Bsc holders even after all the series of meetings they have been holding; haba!! it's painful. See even the armed forces (Army, Navy and Air force) don't discriminate; they take both Bsc and HND holders as officer cadets for their DSSC. I wonder what is wrong with some ministries, like ministry of interior. This issue should be taken up and the president should be in the picture, because our next move would be to discourage Nigerians from going to polytechnics, and we will make sure even those currently running programs in Nigerian polytechnics boycott such programs. |
It took us 36 years to here so the implementation will not take just a day. I think we must wait for the head of service's MEMO. The dichotomy is in mortuary the ground has been dug at UYO let keep it away for Nigeria progress for life
Even yesterday Daily trust newspaper carried an advert for employment for Ministry of interior (Civil defence and immigration). I am telling you the truth it pained me so much when i found out that Asst supt. cadre requires you to have a Bachelors degree (HND exclusive). HND holders can apply for only inspectorate cadre level 07. |
It will be buried at Uyo in oct 2009. Full implementation starts in January. I am sure of this information.
Are you really sure the discrimination is dead, and will be buried? To me it seems that discrimination is still alive because it is happening to HND holders everyday especially in the job advert i saw even yesterday; they want only university graduates with Bachelor Degrees. No HND was mentioned. |

I don't believe that the discrimination has ended, it is still there, and very obvious. |
me, i still use fortran language to solve some complex maths problems. |
@HND-holder they still discriminate against HND holders in banks and government ministries till today o. it's not yet a dead news. Customs and immigration service employed HND holders as level 06 and 07 officers while Bsc holders were given level 08; what does that tell you? |
@hcl_acid How areu doing? i'm still waiting for the solution to the problem. make r the subject of P=a[1-(1+r)^-n]/r |
