Welcome to the Nigerian music industry where every and any kinda of music sells.
Some people call it thrash others say it not up to standard, but quite a number say it has come of age with the foray of artistes like wizkif, davido etc into the foreign scene and signing deals with big American/worldwide music companies....

Now you are an upcoming artiste somewhere in a neighbourhood/school trying to get your hustle on, putting whatever kobo you can find into studio time, going for little shows you can get and some times the music just ends up in your friends' phones and that is it...and bloggers too have found a way of inserting their long syringe into your arm, talking about how they will make the song trend and all that....and for you you are "good!" After all everybody around you says you are good therefore you just waiting to blow.....

Now pause....read again.....did that just describe you? Well.if it did then this is certainly for you.....something you must know if you ever expect to make it big in the industry.

1. Keep working; are you into music for the glitz and glamour and babes falling all around you? You certainly need your skill to be as sharp as a ninja sword on no account should you stop writing music because people are telling you this you latest song is a hit....

2. Have role modelS with longevity; most artistes will want to live like wizkid because he is packing the money right now so they sing like him, talk like him, dress like him- which isn't bad but the essence of having a role model is to guide you in absentia, you pick the good side of the persons music NOT copy the person outrightly because it is the wrong approach to learning....also role modelS means more than one person, it should be several people who have attained a certain height in different skill areas of music or are successful. Somebody saying you sound like wizkif might be a complement now, but when you get bigger you will realise its a setback....nobody will remember your name they will be like "errr I saw that guy that sounds like wizkid"...

3. Say no to miracles; Do not expect to just wake up in a new buggati, real work goes into things like packaging, branding, marketing etc before an artist is trully made, dont expect somebody to hand those things to you on a platter of gold. Work. Earn it. Be undeniable.

4. Keep it real; now this is meant to everybody but mainly rappers. As a rapper people hang on to every word you say and the more popular you become the more real you hav to keep it....and keeping it real is not keeping it gangstar. Keeping it real is making music that you and your homies feel.
..yea you have to make music that trends but do it your own way. Dont pick up a style and run with it the same way the originator of the style did, be smart about it, a true artist brings his ingenuity to every record, your life should be reflected in your songs. Say what is real to you, put an element of you on each and every song. This way your song lasts more and if any serious label wants to sign you they will be convinced they got the right man.

5. Pray everyday: You watch the news you read it here in nairaland...go to crime section and your eyes will sweat at what happens to people daily.... Those people had dreams of a better life like you too, some of them were also aspiring/upcoming musicians but its only through God's grace, trust no man promising you heaven and earth, look through any contract befor signing, its God who grants heart desires, people go different lengths everyday to "blow" but its not a do or die affair....

6. You NEED money; you need an alternative source of income, to keep your music running until the music can sponsor itself. If you already have a sponsor do your best to justify every penny he/she has spent on you. Dont just run into the studio without writing doing whack verses on someone's sweat.... You gato have a plan...

The main goal of this govt is to reverse the corruption trend in the system and it is acheiving that goal well enough. Diversification itself requires funding and we are all aware that the present govt met huge debt and recurrent bill that's backed and sustained constitutionally. If with excess money we couldn't diversify how on earth will it be possible with a debt ladden system? People should know that govts doesn't create jobs but creates enabling environment for job creators.

That the senate is corrupt is not the issue. Just because they are corrupt does not mean all Nigerians should be corrupt. If everyone does business like that in the country, then how does the country get better. It is not mikel's job to pay siasia's salary. It would have been different if all the members of the team pooled together to donate for him. His salary not being paid points to a bigger problem. Like i said, the corrupt mentality in Nigeria, groomed for decades, has clouded the way Nigerians think.
