logicboy: Morality is subjective. That was my point. Both countries are immoral based on many subjective standardsIf, as you say, morality is subjective, how can you say that both countries are immoral? Either there are objective values, in which case we can determine morality or immorality, or there are subjective values, in which case we cannot. (Playing devil's advocate here). |
I am sure that my children's children's children's children (to the 1000th generation) will be living in the end times (whatever that means). People have been waiting for the so called second coming for over 2000 years, and are still waiting today and will still be waiting in 2000 years. Why people continue to fool themselves is beyond me. ![]() |
supereagle: IN a rare display of anger, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, on Friday night, adopted a spiritual way out of Nigeria’s current security challenges, urging the mammoth crowd of worshipers, who attended the February Holy Ghost Service, to pray to God to dismantle all ‘gates’ behind the menace.I am sure that by now there are no more barren in the church and that the biblical gates have now opened and the captive children have now been released. I also hope that those who falsely imprisoned the children in the first place are awaiting trial. As for the spiritual missiles, they must have gone missing somewhere along the line, or have I missed something and they reached their targets when I was asleep. I laugh in all haevenly languages ![]() |
garyarnold: Scratching isn't going to help. But a wig might!Nah! Too itchy. I know, I wear one for a living. |
I just don't get it. The omni-potent, omni-powerful, omni-everything creator of heaven and earth has been reduced to begging for 10% of my hard earned money. Why does he need money in the first place?? (scratching bald head wondering why) ![]() |
zilon12: It may sound funny but for me it has been a trend for over a decade now, each time I pray, voices in my head keep echoing things like "are you sure that God will listen to someone like you?". As a result my prayer life is really faulty, I keep wondering how prayer warriors manage to maintain their zeal to pray everytimeIt is time to come out. You really are an atheist. Welcome brother ![]() |
Seunzz: Each number of the 10Commandments started with 'Thou Shall not'. I believe Morals originated from there. If morals were objective, then there cannot be any law or justice cos' if Mr. A sees murder as bad, Mr. B could see it as okay(if need be).If your argument is correct, societies prior to the ten commandments were immoral societies. I do not accept that, but then i do not accept the concept of a god passing down rules from above, particularly as the first half of those rules reveal what one may call a narcissistic god. I suspect that you mean to say that if morals were subjective there cannot be any laws or justice. This is wrong, law and morals are not necessarily the same thing. It may be morally wrong to tell lies, but it may not be against the law to tell lies. |
Hmm at least you seem to agree that there are some things that a definitely wrong and other things that are definitely good. for instance among other things, murder is morally wrong no matter what and mercy is morally right no matter what. Please object if you don't agree. Now we come to the greyer areas, at which point i could say that man's conscience is his own judge however since this judge doesn't physically punish man other than make him feel a little guilty, man can and does flaunt the rules of his conscience and with practice, he can numb it. I will submit that conscience is quite universal and that is why we all know what good and evil are when we see them hence we have some objectivity and we can make laws that are fair. The problem is no man really knows another's conscience except his own hence we are led to believe that they are wildly dissimilar when in fact our consciences are very much alike - or at least during the early stages of our life. Do you agree?
Herein lies the problem. you and I are agreed that murder is morally wrong. But how do you define murder? Do you define it as the intentional taking of another person's life? What about killing in warfare? Would you class that as murder? If, for instance, as in the bible (Joshua 6 verse 17, god asked god asked Joshua to destroy every living thing in Jericho save for Rahab and her household, would you consider those killings morally bad? Consider the fact that if any modern leader gave similar instructions he was be a candidate for the International Criminal court, and many on this forum would call him evil. Does not the idea of morality depend on our definition of the act? Is eating animals morally right or wrong? It seems to me that it depends on whether one is vegetarian or not. Is homosexuality morally wrong? I do not think so, although a lot of persons on NL would disagree with me. How do we the idea that certain things are morally wrong? Who decides what is moral? Is it moral to treat women as equals or does one subscribe what Paul is alleged to have said in 1 Corinthians 14, v. 34 - 35 women should be silent in church and that it is shameful for them to talk in church? Is slavery moral? If no, why do the bible and koran not condemn it? Are our consciences good indicators of morality? I do not know. What I do know if that unless concepts are properly defined (eg murder) we will be talking at cross purposes. I would wish for there to be objective morality, but as a society like NL shows us, consensus is a difficult thing. We all come to the table with our cultural baggage, prejudices and bias. Getting rid of those is near impossible. |
If morality truly differs from one man to another as you say, how can we have any meaningful objective laws i.e how can there be any justice? What is the validity of any legal system? I have to disagree with you. I make bold to say that morality is objective: Good and bad are clear cut to pretty much everyone. Else we cannot possibly have judge anyone o have any meaningful rules or community.
You get me wrong. I am not arguing against objective morals. However, in my experience everybody seems to to assume that they are more moral than the next man. This, IMHO, is because when we start talking about morality, we assume that we are all starting from the same place. We are not. Before we can have a meaningful discussion on morality, we need to define exactly what we mean. I, for instance, would reject any attempt to define morality in terms of the bible or the koran or the gita. Should there be one universal objective set of morals? Yes, there should. Is there one universal objective set of moral acceptable to all? I am afraid that the jury is out on that. |
I am not sure that any one country can be said to be moral or immoral. Morality is a human thing. Our problem is that we assume that we are better than the next man. The first question one has to ask is -"what is moral?" I am sure that you will be surprised with the answers you get. Hint - neither the bible nor the koran can answer this question. |
I agree. Only one religious forum required. |
I worship at the temple of the Flying Spaghetti Monster. We Pastafarians demand our own forum. |
2buff: Typical Antichrist behavior.Give the man a medal- typical christian behaviour - does not know what an atheist is. Before you jump in, better make sure of your facts. |
Seriously, just because the muslims have managed to bully their way into having an exclusively forum does not make it right. The irony of this situation is that people who normally have nothing nice to say about muslims are now looking up to them. Why not have a shia forum, a sunni forum, a sufi forum, an ahmadiyya forum - and this is just for muslims. Now we start with the christians - a catholic forum, an anglican forum, a baptist forum, an Oyakilome forum, a Joshua forum, a redeemed forum, a KICC forum and so on. Then, of course, the satanists would need their own forum. Then each of the traditional religions would have their forum. And what about the agnostics and the atheists? This call for separation is typical of the religionists. When they start losing the war, they start their special pleadings, "nobody understands us, everybody is against us". We understand you quite well, you want everything your way> |
joe4christ: And why would i want to do that? Or is it because he's not strong enough to do that by himself? When people like you keep your gods to themselves, when you stop trying to convert people with lies and deceptions, when you stop trying to impose your wrong beliefs on others, when you keep your silly beliefs to yourselves, you can complain about atheists and people who do not believe the crap you believe in. Until then, be quiet. |
God loved Daniel Oluranti Omowumi so much that he killed over 156 people to show his love. How self indulgent can one be? |

mecussey: To my humble pastors,A contradiction in terms. ![]() |
Even more money for the GO. Why is this not free? |
Odunnu: I have quietly observed the happenings in this section and to say i'm saddened each time I come here is an understatement. I really dont know how to express it without mentioning names stepping on toes and starting a fight. The bottomline is that I want an exclusively Christian section where I can express my faith online, with an equally christian Moderator. But who is a "True Christian". Would any christian moderator be acceptable to the various views we encounter on NL. On 2nd thoughts, I change my mind. Let the christians have an exclusively christian section with a "true Christian" moderator. For outsiders, this would be fun to watch. ![]() |
When the pastors, the general overseers, bishops, prophets, revs and what have you start preaching for free, instrumentalists should start playing for free. As long as they are getting large incomes from the hard work of the congregations, everyone who works in church should be demanding a fair wage for a honest day's work (if honest and church could be placed in the same sentence). |
Between the poster and that fool, Jeremiah Wright, America's problem has been solved. All they need to do is get more people to worship the one true god and all will be dandy. I am not sure how a country can be the enemy of something that does not exist. Now solve Nigeria's problem - one of the most religious society in the world. Has god blessed Nigeria? |

I really dont know how to express it without mentioning names stepping on toes and starting a fight. The bottomline is that I want an exclusively Christian section where I can express my faith online, with an equally christian Moderator.Last time I checked, this was a forum, not a church. You want to mingle exclusively with christians, go to church. You are upset that people do not respect your delusion, tough. It you are so thin skinned, do not come here. |
Continue praying whilst the world passes you by. ![]() When you finish, maybe you will find Nigeria in the stone age. |
joe4christ: Bunch of fools who thought they knew any better. So sayeth a man who knows the truth ![]() Please, tell us why we are still waiting for Jesus, and will continue to wait to the end of time. |
I do believe that we are still asking this kind of stu.pid question in 2012. Do you men feel that your masculinity is threatened by women owning their own property? Why should your wives need your permission to own their own property? No wonder we appear backward. |
Raotito: Have you heard that the Bible says the kingdoms of this world will become the kingdom of the Lord Jesus Christ and his Disciples? No, I had not heard, but who cares? It is all wishful thinking that a Jewish preacher who has been dead for over 2000 years will rule over the earth (that is if he ever existed). |
Some people will believe anything. ![]() |
The atheist are ever delusional about their beign, the reason they act the way they do. What you saw as mistake is as a result of delusion on the part of materialist. Come to think of it. Every kingdom of animal finds solution to their problems by inspiration from God. That a problem is there to solve does not define a mistake. Your computer should have expressed your thought as conceived without your finger on keyboard. You mean this may be engineering error on the part of computer manufacturer. This is the reason God has made us a vicerent on earth, giving us instruction by inspiration and other ways.
![]() Does any of this make sense to anyone? Or is this an example of really serious theology? |
FXKing2012: Could u people just leave pastors alone and make something positive out of your own lives. Or are u people so intellectually bankrupt that you cannot discourse any other thing other than pastors?I suspect that this poster is a pastor ![]() May I tell you why pastors should always be criticised: 1. Because they all tell us about things they know nothing about and package said things as the truth. 2. Because being a pastor is being intellectually bankrupt. 3. Because they decieve people into thinking that there is life after death. 4. Because they have way too much influence over their congregation's lives. 5. Because most of them are in it for the money. 6. But most of all, they are human beings, just like the rest of us. They have no special insight into the human condition. |
God has a plan, His is the dominion of heavens and earth. What is in our memory is life we have lived. What we have not lived is never in our memory. God Has created the world and all its happenings, His knowledge encompasses all things. So He can't make mistake. Are the heavens and earth more difficult to create or man and events that encompasses him. God creates several cosmics bodies in several Billion times and faction man in the best form. Its man that should trace his step towards Him as He has made a great design and bequithed it to man. But man has derided this trust with corruption on land and in sea.
How do you know this? God confided in you maybe? God has a plan, just like a tyrant. In fact, the more I think about god, the more human it seems. Could god perchance be a human invention?? |
