ramalot: Mexico was cool. Was there for 3 months. Spent most of that time in the capital, Mexico City, and some time in the Cancun - Playa del Carmen area. Mexico City has a pretty large metropolitan area, so very spread out.
Cartels certainly have a notable presence in Mexico. As long as you don't get involved with drugs or try to flirt with random women in bars cartel members hang out, you'll be fine. Otherwise, you might find yourself in a ditch somewhere. Especially if you venture far out of the capital.
The police in Mexico City are also notorious for trying to extort foreigners in the streets. They tried me once at midnight, making completely fabricated accusations. Just like Naija police. I laughed in their face, told them in Spanish that I know exactly what they're doing, and they're not getting 1 peso. I showed them the US embassy number and told them I'm calling, so they can show them whatever they say they have.
They had to beg me not to call, and continue on my way.
Anyway, Mexico City was fun. Got to experience "Dia del Muerto" festivities. It means "Day of the Dead." It happens between Oct. 30th and Nov. 6th. It's a massive traditional ceremony in honor of dead relatives. The main event is a huge parade in downtown Mexico City. People dress in different costumes, like skeletons and dead people. Very colorful event and tradition.
If you've seen the animated movie called Coco, it shows elements of this ceremony. I'm happy we got to experience Mexico at that time.
Food is pretty good in Mexico, especially if you like tacos. I don't mind tacos, but not a huge fan either.
Teotihuacan, about 50 mins outside the city was also interesting. Two large ancient pyramids (pyramid of the Sun and the Moon) and several small ones. We climbed to the top of most of them.
Playa del Carmen was a nice little beach town. The water there isn't very great, as there's often heavy algae bloom, but luckily, it was fine when we were there. Did some parasailing and other cool stuff.
Overall, Mexico was a pleasant experience.
Attached Pics (in order):
1 & 2. Parade at the Dia del Muerto festival in Mexico City.
3. View from a para-sail, over Playa del Carmen beach. We are in the air, attached to that speed boat with the long belt you see.
4. On the beach at Playa del Carmen. If anyone is wondering if the person on the right is a lady with her tits out, you're correct. PDC is a "topless beach." Like every such beach, whether in Miami or Europe, some girls walk around topless. And yes, there are many kids with families. I guess it’s some powerful stuff to be American! Don’t venture out in the Middle East waving your Am. Passport. They hate Am. in those parts! |

ramalot: Absolutely! Lots of partying in the streets, with hundreds of thousands (if not millions) of people flooding the streets.
The black population in Argentina is very small, compared to other South American countries. Less than 1% of the population. It's rare to see black people, and when you do, they're foreigners. Usually Senegalese or other African immigrants.
My relationship with Argentina is a bit of a love-hate relationship. I love the city and it's beautiful well preserved historical architecture and parks. However, the people can be a bit odd. There is certainly what's called "passive racism" in Argentina. Meaning you won't experience any overt racism, but you will get the sense that you're being ignored sometimes.
That said, this doesn't only happen to black people. Even my white friends who have visited Argentina experienced the same cold unfriendly treatment and bad service. Argentines are notorious for being cold and aloof, in general. So as long as you know that before visiting here, you'll be fine.
In Uruguay, which is just a 1-hour boat ride away from Buenos Aires, the people are so much warmer and more courteous. Several Uruguayans I spoke with in Uruguay made fun of Argentines, telling me how Uruguayans are more friendly than Argentines.
I find this difference interesting, as Uruguayans and Argentines are ethnically very similar. Unlike most other South American countries, both these countries are made up of a majority purely European population. Over 80%. Mostly immigrants from Italy and Spain, who have only been here about 100 years. So most are the same as Europeans in Europe. In the same way blacks in Haiti and Jamaica are the same as West Africans.

ramalot: I come from a good and well-educated family. I also attended great schools in Nigeria, but more importantly, while I understood our native language, from hearing relatives speak it, I have never spoken it. My parents never spoke it to us at any point. So I have only spoken English, since I was born. When I became a teenager, I also spoke pidgin English with my friends most times, but that had much less of an impact on speech.
I'm happy I understand my native language, and can probably have a conversation in it, if I had to. However, since I never spoke it, it never influenced my speech patterns. When you have a somewhat neutral speaking voice, or the kind of voice some kids in Nigeria used to tell me "why you de speak phonneh," the transition to an American accent is seamless.
Especially when you already grew up fully understanding the nuances of American English, through cartoons, movies and music. No speech pathology needed. It's a natural process, over a long period of time in America. However, the necessary foundation has to be there, to begin with. Not interesting that your Pa and Ma never spoke or taught you to speak your native language. Usually folks like you have identity issues. The typical American only tolerates people with the kind of background you have narrated. |

ramalot: Singapore was great. I visited there with a friend (also American), while I was spending a few months in Malaysia. Clean and organized little country. It's a tiny place. Like if Abuja was a country. It's really expensive though. I was paying $20-25 per glass of whiskey+red bull mix.
Singapore also has a special place in my story, because about 4 years ago, that's where I met the beautiful person who is now my fiancee. She was also visiting Singapore. Singapore sooooo clean you spit or throw tissue papers around and you pay fines! Thanks for your stories! |

Sweetvie: Yeah, southeast Asia is a bit chaotic Have been to India n Philippines. India is very chaotic Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai and New Delhi That's where I got to visit but their food is not for me but I love biryani Palak paneer is cool but I don't how to describe how I felt when I tasted it Panipuri is also cool and I tasted jalebi in India also it very sweet. Philippines is okay, only got to visit Manila The city is lovely. Heard there's some place you can't visit in Philippines?
@bolded I love Colombia Like the music, dance, the culture and everything is on another level... I really want to visit I love the way Columbia speak their Spanish, it gives me a whole new vibes different from the spain own. I'll love to taste their food, dance and visit the beach there Terrorism is perhaps the biggest threat to tourist safety in the Philippines and continues to be an ongoing problem. The whole of the far south is a no-go zone: the areas of Mindanao, the Sulu Archipelago, and the Zamboanga Peninsula are all considered extremely dangerous and travelers are advised to stay away. |

That said, I'll try to post a few pictures of some locations I talk about. Just for some visuals on the thread, as an image speaks a thousand words. I'll only post pictures I've taken myself, with my phone.
I'll modify and add some pics to questions I already answered above, and will try to add 1 or 2 to new questions that follow. Only if a pic is relevant to the question. How have you kept safe? |

For your question, I would say Colombia and Brazil. While both countries have their issues, I love the people and vibe.
The music, the general atmosphere and interactions are warm and enjoyable.

Wickedfacts: People elected Ikpeazu and Ugwuanyi to rule them, you now allow them influence you into electing a nonentity like Demola as your Governor.
Demola was not allowed by David's dad to handle any of the subsidiaries of Pacific Holdings (Davido dad's company) because he's loafer who never takes anything serious. Dr. Adeleke preferred to give Demola monthly pocket money than allow him run any part of the business. As at the time of election, Demola was still receiving pocket money from David's dad.
Personally, I want Osun to experience Demola for 4 years so they can come back to their senses. Unfortunately, from all indications, the tribunal will remove him.
The idiot fought DSS last week. This week, he has run to Lagos without paying salaries. I laugh. Osun will see pepper. Go and ask about Demola when Dr Adeleke put him on the board of Nigerian breweries. Truant all his life. Not done one thing good all his life! |

danphy6x: Exposed! Why Dupe is angry with DSS
...As DSS HQ refuses her overture to get director replaced
...How she instigated brother, Gov Adeleke to revolt
More facts have emerged as to why the elder sister of Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State, Mrs. Dupe Sani is angry with the Department of State Services, DSS.
In a statement released by an Osun-based Socio-political group, Osun Shall Rise Again, OSRA, and signed by its Chairman, Lanre Akeju and Secretary, Saheed Bakare, the group maintained that the refusal by DSS headquarters to get the Osun Director of DSS replaced the same way they got the State’s Police Commissioner, Olaleye replaced was what infuriated Mrs. Dupe.
"We are therefore calling on the DSS headquarters in Abuja not to dance to their tune.
"They are secretly raising a killer squad. CP Olaleye refused to play boy. They pressed botton and got him transferred. Although, the Police is still awaiting the approval of the Police Service Commission to approve of the transfer formally, while that was on, they wanted the DSS director too out, so they could get official cover for their nefarious activities. But the DSS headquarters was said to have refused their overture. And so they resorted into bullying the DSS officials attached to the Governor, an action that led to the withdrawal of the personnel from him.
"We urge the DSS operatives to commission a thorough profiling of the Governor's Chief of Staff and his CSO, one CSP Omoyele. You will realise that their only expertise is in the coordination of political thugs. He was on record to have warned the thugs when CP Olaleye was still in Osun to behave themselves because the CP would not condone their excesses. He assured that a CP that would do their bidding would soon be posted. Also, CSP Omoyele has several murder cases hanging on his neck, the latest is the killing of two persons in Ede, including a pregnant mother on the orders of a PDP chieftain.
"True is to his assertion, apart from the fact that their political thugs openly jubilated when the appointment of CP Longe was announced, as replacement for CP Olaleye, they have so far killed four innocent Osun citizens within just one week of the announcement.
"This is why we see the DSS as last line of defense to save Osun from being plunged into avoidable political violence," the group added.

Nelson7474: A Kwara State High Court sitting in Ilorin and presided over by Justice Ibrahim Yusuf on Tuesday sentenced two students, Abdulazeez Ismail and Ajala Oluwatimileyin, to death for the murder of a 300-level undergraduate of the University of Ilorin, Blessing Olajide.
Olajide was raped and killed by the duo on June 2, 2021, at her sister’s house in the Tanke area of Ilorin, Kwara State.
Justice Yusuf also sentenced another student, Oyeyemi Omogbolahan, to life improvement, while two siblings: Abdulkarim Shuaib (aka Easy) and Kareem Rasheed (Rashworld), were sentenced to three years’ imprisonment each for withdrawing money from the Guarantee Trust Bank account of the deceased a few days after she was killed.
Three others: Abdullateef Abdulrahman, Daud Adebayo (Bashman) and Akande Oladoja, were discharged and acquitted by the court.
Delivering judgement on 11 counts of conspiracy, armed robbery, rape, culpable homicide and stealing of funds preferred against the eight accused persons, Justice Yusuf found the three students guilty of conspiracy, rape and murder of Olajide, while two other telephone repairers who helped to unlock her telephone and assisted in the withdrawal of money from her account were convicted for conspiracy and stealing.
The judge, who said 13 people testified for the prosecution, while 16 witnesses, including the accused persons, were called to testify for the defendants, said the prosecution proved its case beyond reasonable doubt.
Justice Yusuf said, “While the prosecution established the ingredients of conspiracy and armed robbery against the first three accused persons, it proved beyond reasonable doubt that injury was inflicted on the deceased and she was raped to death. angry
“I direct that Abdulazeez Ismail and Ajala Moses Oluwatimileyin be hanged by the neck until they are pronounced dead.”
The prosecution counsel and former Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Salman Jawondo, who spoke to journalists after the court session, said, “The irony of it all is that all those involved are young men of 19, 23, etc. It’s quite unfortunate. And that shows that we have to work on our future in this country.”
