Politics › Re: NJC Recommends Appointment Of Joseph Oyewole As Supreme Court Judge (see Bio) by zoedew: 10:06am On Jan 15
fergie001:
The National Judicial Council has recommended an Appeal Court Judge, Joseph Oyewole to the Supreme Court

CASES HANDLED BY JUSTICE OYEWOLE
At the High Court of Lagos State, Justice Oyewole handled some high profile cases:

- In 2005, he convicted and sentenced Emmanuel Odinigwe Nwude, Nzeribe Edeh Okoli (original perpetrator) and Mrs Amaka Martina Anajemba who were involved in defrauding a Brazilian bank of $242m to build a fictitious airport, one of the biggest scams ever in the world, causing the collapse of the Banco Noroeste in 2001.

- In 2007, he convicted and sentenced Pastor Emeka Ezeugo (aka Rev King) to death by hanging, for the alleged murder of a church member, Ann Uzoh. This judgement was affirmed by the Appeal Court and Supreme Court.

- In 2009, he convicted and sentenced ex-PDP Deputy National Chairman SOUTH, Chief Olabode George to a 30-month prison sentence on charges bordering on fraudulent contract splitting and disobedience to lawful order. This decision was upheld by the Appeal Court in 2011 but overturned by the Supreme Court in 2013.

At the Appeal Court, he authored and read the unanimous judgement affirming the decision of Justice Omotosho recognising Martin Amaewhule as the Rivers Assembly Speaker as well as voiding the ₦800bn 2024 Rivers budget passed by a faction of the RSHA during the feud between Governor Fubara and his benefactor, Wike.

Controversy
Following the retirement of George Olaniyi Ojo as Osun CJ on 8/11/12, Governor Rauf Aregbesola nominated a then mid-level Judge of the Lagos High Court, Justice Oyewole as the Osun CJ, a decision that met serious opposition in the Osun Judiciary. It created a stand-off between the State Government together with the State House of Assembly on one hand and the Osun Judiciary and the NJC on the other. The NJC insisted that one of the most senior Judges, Oyebola Adepele-Ojo or Gloria Oladoke (both of them appointed Judges of the High Court of Osun State same day on 21/12/2000), be sworn-in.

The Osun Judiciary had no Chief Judge in acting or substantive capacity for 10 days before the Rauf-led Government bowed to NJC pressure,. Justice Oyewole later transferred his service from Lagos to Osun Judiciary on 4/12/2012.

These are photos of street thugs and gang boys caught by local vigilantes on the streets of South Africa shown with their weapons of choice. These boys are responsible for robbing commuters and pedestrians on the streets of Johannesburg.

They carry those knives around at all time, mainly for protection from rival gangs and for robbing people.
What are these things!! That is the society many Nigerians would sell all they own to migrate to!🧐🧐🧐

ogododo:
Yakubu

Yakubu Mohammed, a co-founder of Newswatch magazine and its former deputy chief executive officer, has died at the age of 75.

He was reported to have been battling an undisclosed ailment before his death. As of press time, an official statement from his family was still awaited.

His death comes barely two months after the passing of his long-time colleague and fellow Newswatch co-founder, Dan Agbese, who died after a prolonged illness on November 17, 2025.

In October 2025, Mohammed published his memoir, Beyond Expectations, which chronicled the history of Newswatch and offered personal insights into the magazine’s formative years. The book revisited major moments in the publication’s journey, including the controversy surrounding the 1986 assassination of founding editor-in-chief Dele Giwa and the subsequent struggle for control of the influential magazine.

Mohammed, alongside Agbese, Ray Ekpu and Dele Giwa, founded Newswatch in 1984, establishing it as a leading voice in investigative journalism during Nigeria’s military era. His death marks another significant loss to the magazine’s founding generation.

Born on April 4, 1950, Mohammed hailed from Ologba in Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State. He attended St Joseph’s Primary School, Ayangba, in 1964; Government Secondary School, Okene, between 1965 and 1969; the University of Lagos from 1972 to 1975; and the Glasgow College of Technology in Scotland between 1978 and 1979.

He began his journalism career at the New Nigerian Newspapers, where he served as associate editor from 1976 to 1980 and managing editor in 1980. He later joined National Concord as deputy editor between 1980 and 1982, becoming editor from 1982 to 1984.

At Newswatch, Mohammed served as co-founder and executive editor between 1984 and 1986, managing editor from 1986 to 1994, and deputy chief executive officer of Newswatch Communications Limited from 1994.

Beyond journalism, he was a director at Yadara Nigeria Limited and Lastop Limited. He was also a member of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, the Commonwealth Journalists’ Association, and the Nigerian Guild of Editors.

The veteran journalist also served as pro-chancellor and chancellor of the governing council of Ahmadu Bello University.

Recall Elrufai,

Statement that "threatened the 2023 foreign electioneering monitors of returning in body bags" that kept him on top USA radar.

His acknowledgement of "payment to Terrorist to go away" is self indictment. which should have been investigated if Nigeria is a serious country.

His statement of " Fulanis Never forget, will hunt back," is also on global radar.

Recall, he was dropped from Ministerial list, for his compromise in the many Killings of Southern Kaduna indegenes, as presented by the Senator in National Assembly called Sunday Adeyemi Report.

I agree entirely! Dr. Olisa Agbakoba just weighed in on the matter while answering questions on Channels TV. He thinks both Wike and Fubara are not about good governance. I cannot agree more. Topping it up I think Riverians are not intentional about good governance because of the high level of poverty.

The supreme court drank 40 year old whiskey before the judgement
More importantly, the judgement of the supreme court was in a matter of constitutional dispute where they gave interpretation. The actions taken before the judgement were given cannot be held against the individual who did them since then, he believed them to be correct stand of the law. If not, what you're simply saying is that any constitutional case a governor or president loses in court automatically makes him a candidate for impeachment
Not so Sir. I only made reference to a decision of the Supreme Court that underscores the point I am making. Truth is that the South-South is largely a place where public resources are squandered by the political class and their friends and cronies. I am not a partisan politician. That is just my observation! Wasteful living is rife in that society.

For the good of the society and folks coming behind us we should look away from the personalities involved and ensure constitutional provisions are respected and followed by elected officials. To look away from that is to lay a bad precedent that is sure to consume the society tolerating lawlessness.
Politics › Re: Should An Unrepentant Fubara Get Away With Unconstitutionality? by zoedew(op): 8:22pm On Jan 12
In my opinion Fubara should not be allowed to get away with the Constitutional infractions he is yet to respond to:
1. The Supreme Court has described him in the most unsavory terms as a despot! Is that the type of person who should be a leader not to talk of a Governor in a well-meaning society? I do not think so.
2. Fubara is in disobedience to extant orders of the Supreme Court. This strikes at the root of an orderly society. Must we allow such conduct especially when no one is above the Law?
I hope we do the right thing in all the circumstances. This is not about the personalities of Fubara and Wike. Politics should be in line with the Constitution.
