A Mapo Customary Court on Monday, in Ibadan, dissolved a marriage of 22 years; and advised married couples to fear God and uphold the sanctity of matrimony.

President of the court, Chief Ademola Odunade, gave the admonition while delivering his verdict in a case instituted by a commercial driver, Abiodun Ganiyu, for the dissolution of his marriage to Mojisola, whom he accused of infidelity and alcoholism.

In his judgment, Odunade lamented the high level of immorality in the society, calling on wives and husbands to fear God and respect relationships.

He dissolved the union and granted custody of the six children to Ganiyu.

The Arbitrator directed the petitioner to pay N5, 000 to Mojisola to enable her pack out of his home.

During the proceedings, the petitioner stated that he was fed up with his wife’s adulterous lifestyle, which had subjected him to ridicule in their neighbourhood.

The petitioner, who lives at Agege area in Lagos state, said that life had not been the same for the past 13 years since his wife started living “a wanton lifestyle’’.

“Firstly, Mojisola informed me that she had become born again and had been ordained a prophetess in her Church.

“My lord, Mojisola sometimes told me that she had been in a trance for 10 days and therefore could not come home; but she would return home mostly heavily drunk.

“When I could no longer bear the agony, I reported her to her parents to caution her, but it was all to no avail.

“When I saw that her waywardness was becoming something else, I advised her to buy her beer to drink at home; instead, Mojisola took offence by my advice and would leave home for three to five weeks.

“Though, we both agreed to do family planning for birth control, she however, she saw it as an opportunity to sleep about with other men.

“Worst still, she introduced some of her lovers to me, I am frustrated, please, separate us,” Ganiyu pleaded with the court.

The respondent, who now lives at Apata area in Ibadan, did not deny any of the allegations leveled against her.

However, Mojisola, who earns a living as a food vendor, said that life would be meaningless to her if the court dissolved her union.

“I admit to all the allegations against me, but there is no where I can go at this stage, after six children.

“I take beer everyday because I do not want to kill myself; and I frequently leave home for a month or more.

“Also, I wooed a man to sleep with me so as to stimulate my sexual urge; and Abiodun himself knows the man, because I introduced them.

“Abiodun does not give me sexual satisfaction because he uses condom with me,” Mojisola explained.

The National Food Security Council (NFSC), chaired by President Muhammadu Buhari, says it will make rice available before Christmas.

Atiku Bagudu, governor of Kebbi and the deputy chairman of the council, told NAN in Makkah, Saudi Arabia, that the council is aware of the current high prices of rice.

According to the governor, the government is also aware of the activities of some individuals and groups bent on frustrating the new rice policy.

“The good news is that there is a lot of production in the country. All the millers in Nigeria have enough paddy and farmers are producing and the harvest is coming in strong,” he said.

“We believe in addition to market forces, there are some people bent on manipulating the situation in order to exploit bigger revenue, bigger profits and some may even be doing so for the wrong reason.

“They want to truncate policy which is helping the Nigerian economy; which is helping Nigerian millers; which is helping the Nigerian farmers and the Nigerian population.

“We are taking steps to ensure that more rice is taken to markets where shortages can easily be created.

“There is enough product in the country and the National Food Security Council is focused on how to ensure that availability is restored all across the country so that prices will come down reflective of the cost of production.”

Since the country’s land borders were closed and forex restricted for the importation of rice, a 50kg bag of the commodity has increased to an average of N22,000 from N14,000.

On the reported loss of about N1 billion by onion farmers in Kebbi state, Bagudu said the government would always respond to farmers’ predicaments promptly.

He disclosed that the federal government had approved N23billion for distribution to states affected by floods.

“For the onion farmers, they have calculated that the rain will stop by September because when onion is growing there is a point at which it does not desire rainfall, now we have rainfall,” he said.

“I’m not sure of the N1 billion loss in terms of the quantum because we have not done the assessment but we are always willing and ready to support all our producers especially when they are faced with unforeseen circumstances like this.”

Bagudu was on the entourage of Buhari’s official visit to Saudi Arabia which ended on Saturday.

Others governors on the entourage included Babagana Zulum of Borno and Aminu Masari of Katsina.

Nigerian business mogul Cosmas Maduka, one of Nigeria’s most successful businessmen, has built a rice processing mill in Anambra, a state in Nigeria’s southeastern region, at a reported cost of $35 million.

According to a report by ThisDay, the rice mill which was constructed by Coscharis Farms, a subsidiary of the Cosharis Group which Maduka controls, was officially launched last Tuesday at a ceremony in Anambra attended by Nigeria’s Central Bank Governor, Godwin Emefiele and various Nigerian state governors.

The first phase of the rice mill which has a milling capacity of 40,000 MT per annum was launched on Tuesday, but the entire project is expected to have an annual milling capacity of 120,000 MT when completed by the end of 2020 according to a press statement by Maduka.

The Government of Anambra State has declared Monday, November 18, 2019, a Public Holiday in honour of the great Owelle of Onitsha, Nigeria’s indigenous Governor-General Right Honourable Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe.

A statement from the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Anambra State, Mr James Eze noted that the Public Holiday which was declared to mark the birthday of the pioneer President should have held on his actual birthday which is Saturday, November 16, 2019, but has to be observed on Monday, November 18 for obvious reasons.

“Following this declaration, Monday, November 18, 2019, shall be observed as a work-free day in Anambra State” it stated.

According to the statement “ the declaration came on the heels of repeated appeals by the governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano to the Federal Government to declare a national public holiday in honour of the great Zik as has been done for other illustrious leaders across the continent who led their respective countries from the shackles of colonial rule to independence.

“Governor Obiano had used the opportunity of the commissioning of Zik Mausoleum in January this year to appeal that Nigeria should set aside a Public Holiday in honour of the great Zik just as Ghana did for Kwame Nkrumah, as Kenya did for Jomoh Kenyatta, as Tanzania did for Julius Nyerere and as Angola did for Agostinho Neto”.

The state government stressed that the Great Zik of Africa had so much influence on the nationalist struggles for independence across Africa and played a unique brand of all-inclusive politics that left no place for ethnicity and religion all of which make the case for a national day in his honour very compelling.

“Therefore, from this year onwards, November 16 has been set aside in Anambra State to commemorate Right Hon Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, celebrate his legacies and reflect on the ideals and values that the great statesman lived and died for.

“It is expected that in blazing the trail by setting a day aside for Zik, Anambra State Government is making the case for a national holiday in honour of Zik a compelling one.

“It must be remembered that the Great Zik of Africa was one of the greatest Pan-Africanists who devoted his life and times to the struggle for the emancipation of Africa and people of African descent.

“Till today, Zik remains the only Nigerian President who spoke Igbo, Hausa, and Yoruba fluently and the only one whose children bore names that reflect the three major ethnic groups in the country.

No we're not talking about their economic situations but their political system. Democracy is the keyword here so let's leave communist countries out of it. In terms of democracy we all know the things you mentioned won't happen if democracy was not strong in those countries. Impeach a sitting president? Protesting because of economic policies? The fact remains that these advanced countries took a long time to get democracy manageable because the term democracy in itself is alien to human nature. so don't be surprised if it takes 9ja 100 years more to finally have a manageable version....lol.
