You must be very uninformed to claim that Orlu does no business with Owerri. I don't know your definition of business. Probably trading!

Trading sustains Orlu. Orlu does not go
do buy/sell with Owerri - or vice versa.
Orlu buys wholesale from Onitsha. But only road that connects Orlu to Onitsha - Ihialla-Orlu road - has since washed away.

People from Orlu go to universities in Owerri, as well as live in Owerri to do government work.

It's difficult to get some body from Owerri who has been to Orlu for once, even though in 1976 when Imo state was created, there was little or no difference between the levels of urbanization in Orlu, Okigwe and Owerri.

You are right but Jonathan is to be blamed and not Okorocha. If other Igbos joined me when I was screaming for the 2nd Niger bridge and all these roads, maybe we could have gotten 2 or 3 good federal roads or even the bridge.

You are lying. Why the lies? Obasanjo government rehabilitated the road and awarded the Orlu-Owerri road and Onitsha-Owerri road to Julius Berger. He equally awarded the Ihiala to Anara as well as Oba to Okigwe. I wonder why you would twist glaring truth.

The Orlu Nkume Road has never been good to the best of my knowledge. There was somewhere around Menacorde cut almost 10 years ago by erosion. What you should do is to bring your problem to the Governor than accuse him falsely.

For the umpteenth time, Orlu-Ihialla road, the main route that sustains Orlu's economy, was reconstructed by Udenwa during his first term as governor of Imo state. MCC did the road on behalf of Imo state government.

You want me to go talk with Gov. Okorocha about the Orlu-Umuowa-Nkwume road scrapped by Okorocha's government going to four years now? Tens of thousands of inhabitants densely populate both sides of that road, and twice they voted Okorocha as governor, the last time, with hope that Okorocha can rush the road when he wins. Okorocha does not need any body to talk to him.

Let me put on my binoculars: by 2019, Rochas Okorocha may be coming back to beg those people for votes for the Senate. Wealthy people need to be connected to govt to protect their wealth.

Praise Obasanjo and not Udenwa.

Explaining why Obasanjo and Atiku should be given a
fresh mandate by Imo
people, Dr. Acholonu said there are enough indices to
prove that the
standard of living of the people has greatly improved in
less than three
years of the life of the present administration.
"Our action president has delivered on most of his
electoral promises.

Federal roads that were mostly impassable during the
military era have
now mostly been paved. They include the Owerri-Mbaise-
Umuahia road,
Okwelle-Umuna-Okigwe road and Ihiala-Orlu-Urualla-

http://www.thetidenewsonline.com/2015/08/31/flooding-imo-inaugurates-39-man-taskforce/

The Imo State Govern
ment has inaugurated a 30-man Special Environmental
Task Force to check flooding in the state.
Inaugurating the task force, the Adviser to Imo
Governor on Special Duties, Mr Emma Ibediaro, said
the measure was in line with the “Imo My Pride” policy
of the state government.
Ibediaro said that the policy was aimed at checking
flood disaster in the state, and added that, “this task
force is another important arrangement aimed at
restoring the aesthetics of Imo’’.
He charged the members to apprehend those in the
habit of dumping waste in water channels or parking
vehicles on top of drainage system.
He mandated the team to also apprehend those who
kept other things, including materials for building
houses on the drainage channels because such things
damaged the drains.
Ibeaiaro further charged them to apprehend residents
that damaged the roads while engaging in unauthorised
construction.
He said, “henceforth dumping of refuse at designated
dump sites in all the urban centres in Imo State should
take place between the hours of 7 p.m. and 6 a.m.
daily’’.
The adviser to the governor, however, cautioned the
task force to be civil while performing it
He also appealed to all security agencies in the state to
cooperate with the task force.
Head, Imo State Environmental Protection Agency, Mr
Leo Chimezie, urged Imo people to support the state
government’s programmes meant to improve the
environment.
Chimezie added that with the number of hospitality
and tourism establishments in Owerri, the state capital,
clean environment would further provide more
business opportunities in the state.
Responding, the Chairman of the task force, Mr Canice
Amadi, thanked the state government for the
opportunity given them to serve, and promised that
they would abide by the guidelines.
“In the spirit of the ‘Rescue Mission’ agenda of
Governor Rochas Okorocha, we will do our best to serve
the people. All we crave for is support and cooperation
of the public,’’ Amadi said.

But excuse me Abagworo, why should we be talking about who reconstructed Orlu-Ihialla road more than twelve years ago while the same road has since been asking today's government - federal or state - for resurfacing, given that the road is only route that sustains the economy of Orlu and environs?

We are in an era where the success of government is measured by how far the government reduced unemployment.

If Gov. Okorocha cares a hoot about Orlu and the about tens of thousands of traders who provide employment/traders in Orlu, he should have since repaired that Orlu-Ihialla road which is about 13 kilometres, then ask the federal government for refund.

Instead, Okorocha provides 75% of his development infrastructure in Owerri as he builds his megacity capital.
So talk of today, not yesterday.

Not on federal road when in opposition during JonathN's reign of impunity. The issue now is for us to support Buhari and ask for our federal roads be done since our State is in ruling party. I will equally write my series of letters to daily prints and internet blogs demanding for action from President Buhari. Thats the much I can do as a good citizen that voted him.

I appreciate what you have said. I travel that road often and it is not funny. The road will receive attention from PMB. This is the advantage of being closer to the federal govt. However, we want Orlu to be an economically viable city and not an appendage to Onitsha traders only. What I am saying is that we need diversification vis a vis manufacturing, trade, and services.

Peter obi reconstructed Onitsha -Enugu road at onitsha axis, a federal road. Since Okorocha is Buhari's boy boy he should reconstruct that road and ask his master for refund.

Orlu-Ihialla Road to receive attention from PMB? Lol!

It is the Imo state section of the road which is less than 15 km which has deteriorated. If we wait until federal red tape is concluded before the federal govt rebuilds the road - if ever PMB shall even rebuild the road - perhaps by then, the traders in Orlu could have closed shops and moved to Owerri. Unlike Owerri-Orlu road that carries light leisure vehicles, the Ihialla-Orlu road carries heavy goods vehicles.

The story about this failed Orlu-Ihiala road has gone viral, probably because it is the road that sustains the economy of Orlu and environs. But it's hard to believe that IMSG has a full knowledge of the situation.

Okorocha-headed IMSG needs to repair the road - ask the federal govt for reimbursement.

The Phones and Allied Product Dealers Association
(PAPDA), Computer Village Business People in Ikeja, Lagos,
have purchased a total of 2500 shops at the Heartland
Gateway International Market under construction in Mgbidi,
Imo State.
The signing of the purchase agreement was done recently at
the office of M.I. Okoro & Associates, the marketing firm to
the project, in Ikoyi, Lagos State.
Present at the signing were the President, Phones & Allied
Products Dealers Association (PAPDA), Chief Godfrey Iyke
Nwosu; the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer,
Graceland Channels Ltd, the developers, Pastor Nat
Omoruyi; Special Assistant to the Governor of Imo State and
Liaison Officer in Lagos, Mr. Alfred O. Ononugbo; and the
Principal Consultant M.I. Okoro & Associates, Dr. M.I.
Okoro; President, Imo State Town Union, Lagos, Pastor
Okey Anorue; Lawyers, among others.
By this, the Computer Village Business People, Ikeja, have
shown interest in the re-energizing of Imo state economic
activities in Eastern Nigeria.
The re-energizing of Imo state economic activities is to be
achieved through the development of 10,000 lock up shops,
warehouses, housing estates and other facilities.
Mr. Ononugbo, who represented Governor Rochas Okorocha
advised the business people to have “an integrity-driven
market. If our people buy a product for N30,000 then give
them a product that is worth N30,000.”ties in Igbo
land.”

On completion, the International Market will be the biggest,
most modern type of market in Nigeria and Africa.
This International Market is expected to play host to over
two million people doing business in the market city.
This teaming population coming from all parts of Nigeria
and the world would demand for land for various
developmental projects like- housing estates, Warehousing
complexes, Hotels, Industrial and allied activities, schools
and colleges and any other activities that may require the
use of land.

The increase in the demand for land purchase is expected to
increase the value of land in the area.
He said Governor Anayo Rochas Okorocha earmarked about
200hectres of land to Graceland Channels Ltd for the
development of over three thousand housing units for both
residential and commercial occupations in Mgbidi and
immediate environment.

The land supply will help accommodate the expected
teaming population as a preliminary measure to tackle the
demand for housing, and also to complement the Heartland
Gateway International Market.
In a bid to open up the Eastern region of Nigeria for effective
economic emancipation and to position it to compete with
the world economically, Okorocha launched the
development of an Industrial Park with some foreign
partnership.

The foreign partnership with the Imo State Government is
expected to cost over five billion US Dollars and is already
sited at Egbema, Imo state.
The Industrial Park shares immediate neighbourhood with
the Heartland Gateway International Market and Rivers
State of Nigeria.

“This will aid the ease of movement of goods via the Imo,
Port Harcourt and Asaba Airports plus the Governor’s
intention to also open up water ways for the transportation
of goods and materials via the Port Harcourt Seaport.
“The choice of Graceland Channels Ltd for the development
of the market City at Mgbidi is an evidence of Imo State
government’s pursuit for excellence, because this
construction firm has developed a lot of Estates in the past
that competes with International standard.”

If you were from some kind of families you would know the relief of the free education. On constructing federal roads, Okorocha took up the Orlu-Owerri federal road which is much longer and not only repairing but dualising it as well. The only other State that did that albeit better quality is Rivers State and Jonathan refused to pay because they were in opposition. So what I personally wish is for us not to join other Igbos fight Buhari so that we can be compensated for what we suffered as opposition under Jonathan. Peter Obi enjoyed federal patronage in roads including 2 bridges at Obosi and Nkpor. Many of those roads were deliberately paused at Imo boundary. If Obadanjo did not complete the Imo section of Owerri/Onitsha road I can swear it wouldn't be any different.

If we must tell ourselves the truth, a lot has happened within the past 3 months in terms of investment in Imo State. We are not in a position to verify just like in other ones quoted in every other State. "Potential" investment in the State has gone past 10billion Dollar mark. I used potential because none has been completed. Shoprite will soon open store in their 500million Dollar investment. Lots of solid retail outlets have moved to Imo and we all know of the 3.5 billion gas plant as well as the largest bottling company in Okigwe. God bless Imo and let the investments keep pouring.

To me, I view these investments pouring in as evidence of good 1st tenure. Agbacha oso agua mile.

My reason was the purpose of the market and its ability to compete with Aba and Onitsha. It might be viable as a special large market for phones and computers.

Nollywood City underway in Imo

From George Onyejiuwa, Owerri

The Micro Small, Medium Enterprises (MSME)
Business School, Okuku, Owerri in Imo State, has
initiated a massive project akin to America’s famous
Hollywood town, designed for accelerated
development of performing arts in the country.

The proposed Nollywood village, located at Okuku in
Owerri West Council Area, is a 100,000 square meters
expanse of land, with a viable palm plantation, is an
integrated scheme with the entire property mapped
out in plots and now on sale to the general public to
build residential houses, commercial developments,
hostels, tourist gardens, epic movie locations and
other facilities for the film industry and educational
purposes.

Announcing this to newsmen yesterday, in Owerri, the
initiator of the project, Ndukwe O. Ndukwe, a lawyer,
said critical in the planned infrastructure
development in the area, is the construction of an
international film studio, an African village square
setting, art gallery, artificial lake and fish pond to
attract tourists and film enthusiasts.
He pointed out that a small portion of the property,
which is known as the Nollywood City and Palm
Resort, Owerri, would serve as the permanent site of
the MSME Business School.

He said: “We believe it is time to forge a concerted
and structured development template.
“As conceived, we plan to commence our academic
programmes with the Faculty of Performing Arts, with
a variety of disciplines like Theatre, Make-up Artistry,
Directing, Cinematography, Dance, Music and the
likes, by opening the window for entrepreneurs to key
into the Nollywood phenomenon.”

Oga, what is the essence of churning out certificate holders without job opportunities. My dear, that is disaster. Any good planner should look at cost and opportunity cost when making any arrangement. Think of the infrastructures that money could provide. I have to tell you categorically that what is important is sound primary and secondary education. University education is over rated.

I agree with you 100% but our people like certificate. It will pay more to focus on vocational education and funding graduates of vocational school with the scholarship funds to start up business.

So, why can't IMSG think in this direction? A good leader should be visionary. He doesn't have to pursue populist policies. At least he is in his second term.

The reason for CDC is for communities to choose what they want instead of Government making the choice and they chose free education. I have always had the idea for the whole Nigeria but I unfortunately am a social critic though with the positivity I am witnessing in Nigeria now I might venture into full time politics.

I thought this chapel was small until I watched this video. It is indeed an edifice. An excellent work of art.

@Abagworo my dear,

some people see you as mouthpiece of Imo state govt.

The proposed mega-market in Mgbidi is on the recently-built Onitsha-Owerri road. It is highly welcome.

But hopefully, with the market in mind, present govt of Imo state does not quench the international market in Orlu, more so, if the Orlu-Ihialla Road is not rebuilt.
Today's IMSG needs to note that one day, the now sparkling Owerri-Onitsha road must also wash away and ask for repairs.

I am saying this because:

from this govt's 4 years abandonment of the only road to IMSUTH, Orlu, to the govt's embarkation on building new general hospitals;

from its declaration that water supply is privatized when it was the turn of Orlu to have a water supply system built by IMSG,

from this govt's four years crippling of Orlu sports stadium to it building new stadia infrastructures in Owerri;

something is believed to be amiss regarding the governor's attitude to Orlu. Hopefully, the remaining traders in Orlu that sustain the town's economy are not also frustrated by present IMSG to flee.

You need to go into the chapel and say just one prayer for the good of your friend, Gov. Okorocha: pray that governor Okorocha stops his devotion of 75% of Imo state government's development projects in only the state capital.

That governance pattern is very very offensive to the rest of Imo state outside Owerri.. If he continues with that, next time he asks for votes from Imo state;;;;;;;

Those who see me as mouthpiece of Government are suffering from astigmatism. I only simply write the truth and I am very enlightened thats all.

BTW I thought Mgbidi was in Orlu or is your own Orlu different?
