No,msc. The research requirement is really a big issue, besides my average gpa. What do u think about my chances, and what I can do to augment my profile and bolster my chances?

Do schools now require MS applicants to have research experience? MS in itself is research-based and I doubt you would be expected to have a strong prior research experience. I believe you worked on a final year project at your UG level. That should be enough research, applying for MS

sirRiddy: I am looking for both admission and funding. None of the schools I checked is on top 40. ASU is the highest ranked, being 48. GPA is already irreversible; I am preparing as hard as I can for the GRE, let's see how it goes. As for the research thing, will a couple of months as a volunteer research boy for a university lecturer cut it after school? And must one publish papers? For MSc? tongue...Guys, please contribute angry

No its not a must but it helps.
Meanwhile some hidden small schools offer GAs you just have to intensify your search.
What's your score range on practice tests?

Great!

In which state is that toll? Those in NY are crazy...... Verrazano bridge most especially ($15/pass), only if you have Staten Island resident discount will you pay $5.50/pass.

Here in Florida turnpike.
In Florida they have two ways of travelling in and out of its cities... You could use the I-95 and head due north or south or you can use the turnpike. The turnpike are faster routes but you'll pay toll as you go... Tolls can also be charged to your licence plates, you just drive by and cameras take you plates and charges it to the owner.

Most likely. Maybe I should have put it in a better way. I have spoken to alot of people in the us and some in the UK too. Most people end up being married (legal or arrangee). Well, they might be wrong.

I think I get your point. You were trying to say that green card by marriage is the major route to residency in the US. True to that, green card by marriage still remains the most commonest and easiest means of adjusting status here in the US because of the ease that comes with it. All you need to do is simply fall in love and have your GC in your hands in 1 year, or 2 years tops. I mean, take a look at all the statistics on percentages of routes to green card and the marriage route trumps the others. Last year, 2013, family based green cards made up 55% of all green cards issued and employment based green cards 13%. It is still the preferred means of adjustment because you don't have to be a 'genius' or 'exceptional' to earn it neither do you have to wait 6 long years to get it. Not to also think of the fact that green card via marriage is the only green card route that 'forgives' any prior immigration law transgressions such as a previous F1 status who violated their status, or a visitor visa alien who overstayed on his visa etc. These transgressions are difficult to forgive if adjusting via other routes to green card especially via the employment route.

People get their green cards via other routes such as employment, visa lottery, asylum etc but their numbers are small compared to the marriage route. Green card by marriage still remains the preferred route by many anytime anyday.

Marriage has always been the easiest truth. Even the ones that clamour about employment still has marriage first in their mind or don't you know so? grin

Hehe...yea. To be considered via the employment route you really need to be extra exceptional in your field. Ordinarily most companies are not willing to sponsor H1b visas for aliens because doing this opens up their company human resources and inside operations to scrutiny and checks by USCIS, and also the filing fees that go with it. Hence, many employers aren't willing to go that length except you have something to offer which the US residents do not have to offer. The ones in IT that are willing to sponsor are looking out mostly for coding and software specialists. Software and coding(programming) seems to be one major field in US americans have shied away greatly from and hence employers are turning to international students to fill these gaps up. This is one field where you are sure of getting sponsorship if you are above average in it. With time, add years of work experience to your resume, and you'd be struggled for all over US. My Nigerian classmate from the same course who graduated this past spring(may) got hired by Cisco mainly because of his exceptional Java programming skills(this guy is so good in programming that our chinese colleagues have confirmed him. I got to know about 'the guru Nigerian guy' from my chinese colleagues before I met him in person) and the other Nigerian, a girl, was among the top 5 graduating students(highest GPAs) of last semester and she was hired by Arista Networks and has now relocated to California, aka silicon valley. Mind you, these people are on H1B work visas, not green card yet and they say they expect their companies to file GC for them in about 5/6 years.

Not all exceptional students like these are this lucky with H1b employment sponsorship. Some really good students have tried the work employment route and got edged out in interviews or landing jobs by american citizens only to finally settle for the marriage route.

Some nigerians hate the truth. The backlash from my statement wasn't what I expected. I know alot of people in the US who wouldn't lie to me even juntod. So let them wait 6 additional years plus the normal msc 2 to 5 years. That's like 11 years just to go home and carry your gf/bf. God is really able!!

Some nigerians will never agree but after a few years, it's wedding bells. Then if you ask, they'll say they were naive then and now they know better.

And what would happen to your boyfriend/girlfriend back home?....smh

Some usually divorce their wives after they get their kpali. So there is a slim chance they'll come back and carry (pick grin) their gf/bf.

To me that's grasping at straws.

Not really. I am studying a different kind of behavioral pattern on women. It's been really awesome, so far so good. My mom wants me to settle down with a foreigner while my dad and others think otherwise. This is really bizarre because it makes me feel uncomfortable and I'm currently unattached.

I am currently eyeing a girl. But definitely not on Nairaland. The girl is giving me lots of trouble and conditions cheesy Not sure if I will succeed. Though I always win but if I don't I learn from it.

Some people wait that long in order to avoid marriage brohaha. You can find a true love in the US and go for it than going for anyhow spouse just for GC. So marriage is not the only way...maybe English was the problem.
