I think it a bit far fetched generalizing all Nigerian men, based on your experiences alone.

I know a lot of good decent Nigerian men whom love and take care of their women.

Just because your experiences have been unfavourable doesn't mean others are cut from the same cloth.

I would be asking myself if I were you, why do I seem to attract these misogynistic type of men?

Why do they seem to take an interest in me?

Sometimes the best thing to do is look in the mirror, and find the answers.

First of all.. this is what we, the feminists are fighting against. In the Nigerian environment there is discrimination against women. African men in general have the Alpha-like feeling that they are the boss of the boss.

And they present it in a way that women are lesser than they are. It's true. Even in the economy, the top positions in offices are run by Men, even major paying jobs are run by Men. Women are mostly traders (Petty) why?
Because men are built to lead...We dont have the same strenght. Scientifically, you can't carry the weight we carry

All government offices are headed by Men. In fact I heard a news that a state in South East Nigeria appointed a Man to head women affairs. How long would this continue?
The word "woman" does not go well with leadership.

A guy does a favor for you, he expects a Mouth Action. Why?
This is one aspect you feminist failed to address. You go to an office or public service. You see guys queuing up to get the same service. Just because you are female, you have breast and virgina.ss.. You will be looking for preference. You wont want to be on the queue to get the same service. You are manipulative. At work, you want to get promotion and boss your male counterpart while you have no qualification or portfolio for it. What do you do? You start sleeping with bosses ? This is not our fault. This is what you reduced yourself to.

They feel when they marry you they are doing you are favor. WTF?

This is not true. We proposed to you. Woo you, claim you. We fight to marry you. Has any woman made this attempt to marry a man? Appreciate us for making the move. We all know who need the marriage. A guy can stay to the age of 45 before getting married. Menopause sets in at age 35 for female.

If a girl express her feelings towards a guy she cares about.. she is cheap.
We dont actually see you doing it. Its your fellow Ladies and feminist that attack any female proposing to a guy. I know of a feminist who get angry when she see a girl wooing a guy. She always says "Guy must sweat to have access it. Let them not have it easy"

I was at an event last week and a guy requested my contact info and I was hesitant in releasing it to him then he offered me money. Why? Like I'm some LovePeddler? Most men have the idea that all women are prostitutes. .direct and indirect that we all love money. It's rude and disrespectful but who cares? It's Men's world.

Because you women always look at relationship as money making venture. I remember a guy toasting a girl at V4 last year. He said "My dad is the major distributor selling masts to telecoms in Nigeria" He is wooing a lady and mentioning this. I shake my head. Its not his fault. It what our females metamorphosis to.

A girl is raped they blame the girl for her dressing and no one blames the guy. Continue.. there is God.
The day guys start wearing pant on the street, its women that will complain most. We also know how you get turned on when you see six packs. Or dck.

No one cares about a girl's opinion in a conversation once 3 guys have spoken.. whether it's good or bad it's settled.
Not sure

I do not blame these men because women are in the shadows. It's time to start fighting for our place in the society and stop feeding them that ego or giving them the chance to feel on top.

You have nothing to fight for. You just need to orientate yourselves and do mentality change. 90% of the fault is from you. Not men.
So @Op, not Nigeria alone. .it's everywhere.

If you want to get married make sure you use brute force.

I'm not sure you understand what it means to be misogynistic.
You can love and take care of a woman but still see her as a lesser being.
Do you really know any Nigerian male that treats his wife as an EQUAL in the home? Making family decisions TOGETHER and not demanding or expecting to be treated like a second God?

I think it's a fabric of our society, passed on through ancestral culture then nutured by Christianity and Islam-Two notoriously misogynistic religions. I mean, a Christian man is always ready to quote "God made women for men" & "Wives submit to your husband" biblical verses to 'verify' his claim to the family throne.

Sadly, women and young girls have accepted this role as second fiddle, most in order to obey books clearly written by men, for men.

And men quite simply can't let go of their ego.

I hope to find a strong woman someday, and build an Empire TOGETHER. But I'm clearly in a minority.

Actually I do, my father and my partner whom both are Nigerian men grin

It obvious you are on the look out to impress a woman, no doubt with how your advertising you need a "strong woman", and by the looks of your display pic it must be the beach on nairaland, so I'll let you do your thing.

Honestly? Kudos then, because I can't say the same for my father nor any man I've come across in Nigeria.
So you disobey your bible and don't submit to your partner?

Lol. I'm far from ready to settle down. I always sing out loud that I'm not looking for commitment, especially not on the internet.
My message was food for thought for reading men, unfortunately you took it wrongly

I haven't been to church in 14 years, that should explain the bible part.

Submissive is the wrong word to use here, do I respect my man? Yes, would I do something for him? Yes, but that because I love him. Plus it part of my character, I love to help others.

Submissive by my understanding is not really having a choice but having to submit and do it regardless.

Kill 'em , don't want their existence or totally disagrees to whatever will favor womanity . Nigerian men on the average are not those smiley

I am ha. And yeah a lot of Nigerian guys put females on a pedestal, at least the younger ones do. The older generation don't play that mess hahahha that's why I don't relate to many young guys, because more and more of them are becoming weak simps at the mercy of females.

I'm pretty young FYI smiley ... However, I feel adults were once kids and kids will grow up to be adults . The difference btwn adulthood and childhood I feel is that graduation from being naïve to being leery smiley . So don't blame 'younger ones'

This one got me laughing all day! It means we should start seeing psychologists to help us out of this puffy nature we carry about when around women. I am sorry to say women need to up their game by fighting for equality rather than fighting for superiority(which is the agenda of typical feminists). Feminism discriminates against men in a nutshell. It is selfishness! That is the major reason why I don't support it. I completely support equality!

Do you think nature has anything to do with this or it is mainly a cultural thing?

I think it is time women stop addressing equality from the feminist point of view because it is going to distant them from the men. It would lead to more rivalry and it is going to continuously turnout ugly.

Women are just as smart as men. That is a complete fact. I have never looked at any woman to be inferior to me.

That is the problem with Nigerian men. It(submissiveness) is a cultural value that relegates women to the background and it is very bad for a modern society. Submissiveness is a very oppressive idea devised to objectify women. It is unacceptable in a civilized society. I am not saying something like that is not happening in the developed world but not as much as in the underdeveloped nations like Nigeria.

That women are superior to men sort of. There is a quote by a lady I come across on nairaland when discussing the same issue some time ago that says, "what a man can do a woman can do better". That is not helping matters. If you look closely at what feminism is driving at, most especially, the radical feminism you would understand that it is about superiority. Like some women want men to be seen by women nothing more than disgusting beings who trample on women rights and must be discriminated.

Radical feminism leans more towards misandry. I'm a centrist feminist. Equality for women and equality6for men. Equality for all human beings

The term FEMINISM doesn't sound equal, it sounds feminine. That alone speaks volume of what it is all about. I would rather women drop that term and fight for their right from equality standpoint. Equality applies to both sexes but feminism doesn't!

Feminism sounds feminine for a reason. Men have all the pathways to success and the freedom to do as they see fit. Women don't have those. So feminists fight for the rights of women so that we too can succeed. True feminism don't attack men. They attack systems put in place to oppress women. That's why there are male feminists. That's why a feminist can also be a maninist. It's about equal rights.

Hello Nairaland! This is my first post cheesy I've been on Nairaland for a long time but I've never real felt the need to post anything before but this topic was paining me and confusing me at the same time.

As a bonefide Naija babe (REPRESENT), I made up my mind that when I am ready to marry, I MUST marry a Nigerian guy or I would rather die single (nothing wrong with this sha). The only issue I'm encountering thus far is that the Nigerian guys I've met are very misogynistic I don't even understand why. Growing up I was told that as a child of God I could do ANYTHING but I suppose that Nigerian male ego trumps God's word undecided undecided

So this is a question to all the Alpha-Males out there! Why do you believe that women are less than you? I didn't grow up with this ideology at home and neither did my brothers so I would like some
dis ur story is more of story 4 d gods,(obatala and co) dan 4 we mortals, cus i cant see any sense in it.
